not bad, but I felt the secret baby was used as a power play for h to deal with her feelings of rejection. The H was tactless and cold but I could not get over selfishness that lasted for 5 yr

I randomly picked this audiobook without reading the synopsis. I didn’t know the entire book was going to be based in the resort. You don’t even get to “see” the part where the male MC meets his kid for the first time or how the MCs explained the shit show to their daughter, or even the growing pains of combining two families. Nothing. You know, the entire crux of the book? That was annoying and a little disappointing, because what I was left with when I realized an introduction to the kid wasn’t going to happen was about 3 hours of “I kind of hate you and I definitely don’t trust you, fuck me now” sex, which was pretty standard and therefore boring. Then there were the arguments between the MCs where they did a lot of talking at each other but made little progress in coming up with a solution. It was great. *said in the most unenthusiastic voice imaginable.

I could not stand the fem MC. She waited until the last possible second to tell her baby fatha that HE WAS the father! (Sorry I got strong Maury vibes and had to giggle when I got to that part). It was shitty. Understandable if she and her beau lived in different states and never crossed paths or didn’t know the same people, but none of that was true. Honestly, it would have come off better if she had just decided she didn’t want him involved because she found him unreliable, instead of that wounded, self-pitying gazelle vibe she had going on, where she blamed her shady behavior her assumption that the male MC wouldn’t “want” she or her daughter. Maybe she was supposed to come off heroic and sound like a strong single mom, but to me she sounded whiny.

It was also completely shitty the way she dropped the news on the male MC then turned tail and ran because he was upset with her. OF FUCKING COURSE HE WAS UPSET. SHE KNEW HE WOULD BE THAT’S WHY SHE DIDN’T TELL HIM SOONER. My biggest issue with all that, honestly, was the fact that she didn’t give him time to process it on his own schedule. She pushed for a meeting so they could discuss things, but he never saw the text so of course she assumed he was ignoring her and never consideredhis life might not revolve around her and her issues 100% of the day. Did she go pound down his door or blow up his phone to try to get a hold of him? Did she wait impatiently for him to get back to her. Nooooooope. She turned tail and ran so she could “be with her daughter” and told their friends (who were pretty firmly on the fem MC’s side and against the male MC, even the male Mc’s bestie, which I thought was shitty) the male MC would “know where to find her if he came looking”. The fuck? She was in the wrong. How is it his responsibility to track her ass down to have a conversation she initiated when he is the wronged party? She just lacks any emotional maturity and it really made me pull my hair out.

That doesn’t mean I completely absolve the male MC from his sins 10 years ago, but honestly, I kinda didn’t understand the big deal. There was so much more time spent talking about specific parts of the past and referencing the big dumping instead of going into detail about what the day-to-day of their relationship looked like. I was never convinced they were ever in love because I wasn’t SHOWN they were. So when it got to the dumping scene (which lasted for what felt like a page on audiobook time which is pretty damn short for something that was such a “big deal”) I was like damn, sucks. Welp. On to the next! I wasn’t very clear on whether or not the male MC even explained the whole situation with his mom to the fem MC (too many sex scenes, not enough explanations). Either way, he never spoke of how supposedly shitty his mom had been to him with her (though that plot point also lacked any real detail. If I remember right, the only shitty thing she did that was mentioned in detail was threatening to cut him off financially, which definitely doesn’t earn her mother of the year, but also doesn’t give her the title of worst mom ever either). There wasn’t even discussion on how he chose financial stability over a long term stable relationship. I’m not saying he chose wrong, I just would have figured the fem MC would have had something to say about it (because she didn’t hold her tongue once when it came to bitching), but she didn’t mention that.

This book definitely has a “everybody sucks” vibe with the MCs (the besties and sister were nose and meddlesome as hell. Mindya business).

Towards the end I was hoping against all hope that the MCs would have a “come to Jesus” moment and improve their communication skills enough that I could believe they would have a functioning relationship with a small child, but nope.

This book definitely wasn’t for me. And I would not recommend the audiobook because it was read by AI and the cadence was obviously very robotic.

Layla and Luke fell in love in high school. This was an elite school and Layla attended by way of her Mom being a teacher there. However, Luke kept Layla a secret from his family. Yeah, I didn't like that either.🙁 I wasn't too sure if it was b/c he wasn't suppose to be dating anyone or the social status, money thing was coming into play. Anyways. They had made plans to go to college together but sadly, Luke, by way of his mother, broke up with her instead. He kept his inheritance and went to Harvard. Layla was devastated. They did run into each other years later in New York. The attraction was still there, one thing led to another, a night was shared, then Layla disappeared on him. Now it was Luke who was left behind, heart broken.💔

Six years later, Layla mother of a little girl named Autumn, is invited to a two week inclusive vacation on a yacht with best friend Delilah and her hilarious husband Jett. Now Jett was also part of the high school group back in the day, he's still best friends with you know who, grumpy Luke. When Layla and Luke find themselves in close proximity again, their banter, the frustration and crazy attraction will be on full display.🎆🎆🎆 They can't hide it. Layla is looking good, feeling confident, despite the unresolved hurt she still carries by the past; she's going to have a good time on this vacation. Luke will not prevent that. Xavier, a shady guy who's also been invited, will help smash that jealousy button! Luke and that ego of his are not having it. Sparks are going to fly!!💥💥💥 And they do. Big time!!! No way is Layla going to be with that guy. She belongs with him. Now he just has to get Layla to admit that she wants him and only him. Bring on the naughty and spice.🔥🔥💋🔥🔥

Layla still hasn't told Luke about having a little girl. His little girl. What will he do when he and his wealthy family find out? Will Luke try and take his child away from her? Layla is now a wealthy lady but can she forgive Luke for hurting her, being made to feel ashamed for not being good enough for him years ago? Will they finally talk about all of their unresolved issues? Maybe they can start over. Have a second chance. Or is it too late? No spoilers. And for good measure throw in Jett's wonky yacht and a brewing storm into the mix.⛈️😄 And I don't mean the storm that is happening between our main couple.😏 Don't forget this is Eli's younger brother. That equally grumpy guy who fell for Olivia.

This was a great book. I was completely onboard to find out how it would all go. Luke was a bit too sour for me at times. I get the alpha attitude, but dude, your in your 20s, chill out for a second. Smile every once in a while. Come on. Life is passing you by. And what kind of Mom did these guys have? Good grief. Vicious, I guess. lol I would recommend. Enjoy.🫡🍹🛥️⚓

🛟Thank you for an early read. This is my honest critique on the story I got to enjoy.🛟

Book hangover worthy read

I never read this author before and don't do many reviews. This book was a book hangover worthy read. The characters were well written and the story kept moving forward at a good pace. Eventually all of the blanks of Luke and Layla's past relationship were filled in and I believe they were done at the most appropriate times in the book. I thought all the times the author teased us with when Luke could possibly find out Layla's secret were very well planned and executed. Luke and Layla were very likeable characters as were most all of the secondary characters.especially Jett and Delilah, Jackson, Eli and Luke's father. For me, Luke had his moments of frustration in the story. He overreacted and got himself in trouble but the author wrote it out so well that we understood he was acting like a guy that was hurt and afraid to trust again. The character of Xavier in the beginning of the book ultimately played the part of the villain and he got his due. Every story has a Xavier as does every story have that bad breakup period and that was written well to add to the progression of the story. Luke's best friend Jett was the voice of reason and so was Luke's brother Jackson. It warmed my heart that they explained Layla's circumstances to Luke. Layla was in a hard position from the very beginning of the relationship with Luke in high school. She stayed true to him even though at the end of their high school years he broke her heart.
This book had a very believable story and as I said before Is binge worthy. And..... let me not forget..... lots of smoking hot sexy times for Luke and Layla! Josie Have is an excellent storyteller. I plan to buy Eli's book, maybe a few more and I hope she writes Jackson's story. It think it would be interesting to read a rockstar romance written by Josie Hart.

Their Long Road To Forever Happiness -
Layla was shocked and overwhelmed when she laid eyes on Luke, as she not only had a really big secret she was keeping from him, but she hadn’t gotten the way he broke her heart. Even though Luke was upset with Layla after what she did to him six years prior, he realised after seeing her again, that his feeling for her had never gone away. Spending time together sent them on a rollercoaster ride of epic proportions, but neither one of them could keep their hands off each other.

Unfortunately, just as they settled into a semblance of a relationship and agree to see where their relationship could go, everything came to a head when Layla revealed the secret to Luke and he discovered his best friend already knew. However, once he spoke to his family, they made him realise he wasn’t blameless in the situation, so he should fight for their relationship if she is what he really wanted. As luck would have it, acknowledging their feelings for each other led them to get the life they had always talked about.

This is one heck of an amazing story, that pulled me in from the beginning and made me feel like I was part of the story. The author did a great job describing the steamy encounters which had me squirming in my seat and felling like smoking a cigarette with a glass of vodka. I really enjoyed reading this book and look forward to reading more from this author.

The tension is palpable between Layla and Luke... their steamy passion will leave you feeling about as hot as they are in those moments. They spend so much time fighting their feelings that you just want to scream through the pages to them to let it all go, forget their past (or work through it finally for crying out loud) and give in to their love...since it never really went anywhere. They just spent so much time hurting and hurting each other. Talk about stubborn!
Delilah and Jett really are such great friends to both Layla and Luke. It's great to see their friendships and support of one another.
So...Layla has a huge secret that she has to share with Luke. It will be hard for him to forgive her for keeping this secret from him all this time.
I won't give anything away BUT towards the end, as we passed the arc of the story, I found my teeth were clenched, my eyes were squinted, my fists were tight and I was so anxious and excited about what was to come! Oooohhh...so good! Mwah!

I truly enjoyed this book and it is my first time reading from this author. Very well written and it kept my interest all the way through. I definitely recommend letting yourself get lost in this story.

I enjoyed this book more than I expected to. My hesitancy was due to the “Secret Baby”. It seems like a lot of authors are big on this trope and unfortunately it also seems like many of them are clueless about life with children is really like. I know that Romance is a form of Fantasy, but real life with a child/ children can be morbidly complex, totally hilarious, and breathtakingly beautiful all in one. Luckily, the author of this story, Josie Hart, kept the child plot fairly light until the end, this made for a smooth read, overall.
A few thoughts on the story… Luke is having a hard time accepting that Layla isn’t his anymore, and hasn’t been for some time. He is protective and possessive of her from the moment he sees her again. Layla struggles with Luke’s behaviors due to their shared past. She is hiding a VERY big secret from Luke, and when he finds out what that secret is?!! Let’s just say that Luke has a difficult time being as gracious as Layla has been to him. After a reality check, Luke comes to his senses and they get their HEA.

I love a good story that has a life lesson. Yes I like sexy romance and angst. I like the characters to see realistic. Josie Hart does not disappoint. This book is about misunderstanding and healing. Saying “ I am sorry” are three very important words! It shows the hurt party that you understand pain and hurt was caused by actions, no actions or words. The hurt may seem insignificant at the time but it really isn’t. In this case it caused 10 years worth of heartbreak and angst that would not heal. In spite of the pain caused to Layla she could not stop loving Luke. She always thought she was never good enough for him due to his actions in the past. He loved her as well but he let family pressure dictate his behavior and decisions . He could not shake his love for Layla that started in high school. Their lives are intertwined due to family ( a child conceived) and friends. This causes these 2 people and friends to have a crazy ride to enlightenment . Their attraction to each other is under-deniable . This is steamy raw romance story!.

Luke and Layla's Story . . .

Luke Whiss and Layla Miller never expected to meet up again after disappearing for 6 years after a one-night-stand. They had originally dated in high school. Then when they had that special night together, Layla had left. She later found that she was pregnant but did not tell Luke.

Six years later, while a guest on a yacht, miles from shore on an all-inclusive 3-week trip, Layla spots Luke and drops her champagne glass. Where can she hide on a yacht? Her best friend Delilah had sent her the guest list, but she didn’t really look it over to realize he would be here. She got up and ran, but Luke noticed her and headed her way. She backed up into the railing and started to fall, but he caught her before she went overboard. Despite wanting to keep away from Luke, the two of them obviously still have strong feelings for each other. She wants her 5-year-old daughter Autumn to be part of her father’s life. She really needs to tell Luke the truth. Is there a second chance for them to get back together? Or will having kept the secret about his daughter break them apart?

First time reading a Josie Hart novel and was not disappointed.

Luke and Layla were high school sweethearts. Due to a snobbish meddling mother Luke broke up with her a week before they were headed to college. The plan was they would attend UCLA along with their friend Jett. Layla always thought she wasn’t good enough for Luke and was devastated after the breakup. Luke and Layla ran into each other in NYC and had a one night stand a she was pregnant. Jett and his wife invited Luke and Layla on a three week. It had been six years since their last meeting. Luke realized that he still loved Layla and wanted her back. Layla was skeptical and was having a hard time being in the same area. The one thing they shared that never changed was their sex. They were stranded on the ocean when he overheard her on the phone with their daughter. He was hurt and felt betrayed but with his best friend and his family making him see both sides, they were able to resolve their differences and had their happily ever after. Beautiful love story. I definitely recommend reading this book.

DNF couldn’t get past 16%

So many issues with this book in such a short time, I just couldn’t read anymore.

My first issue is the language. These are supposed to be 28 year olds, and one of them, a mom of a five year old. You hear words like “fire” and “savage.” The only person I know that runs around using the word “fire” just turned 16 years old. Then two grown a$$ men are talking about the MFC and they use the word “narrative.” Lmao

*possible spoilers*
My second issue is the MFC is annoying. The MMC and baby daddy broke up with her before he left for college. They met up like 4-5 years later and slept together. She decided to leave before he woke up, then bars him from her social media and never tells him she’s preggers. The kid looks identical to him and even has the same dimples, but nobody ever put two and two together even though she is pretty sure that his best friend has noticed. They end up on a 3 week trip together and she spends her time purposely antagonizing him and trying to make him jealous, even though she wants to stay away from him and keep his kid a secret.

Yes I just couldn’t get into this.

Layla and Luke were together all through high school but because of his mom they could never tell anyone. And after graduation they were going to go to UCLA but at the last minute Luke tells her they are done and he is going to Harvard shattering her heart.
And years later they see each other in NYC that leads to a steamy night. But Layla is gone when he wakes up. Fast forward 6 years and they find themselves in Miami with their respective best friends who happen to be married to each other.
Things are not smooth or easy for them at all. They both are still in love with the other but don't know how to make things work. Especially when Layla has a 5 year old secret.
Josie drew me in to the story and I could feel the feelings. Great characters and storyline.

Luke kept his relationship with Layla through high school a secret. Then, instead of going to uni with her, he dropped her and left without a backward glance. Heartbroken, she worked hard at building a life for herself but never got over him.

Years later she runs into him out of the blue and several drinks later sees them carrying on where they left off. Next morning, terrified of being hurt again, Layla leaves whilst he is still sleeping.

Six years later and mother to a secret daughter she bumps into him at a party. Things get hot and heavy again but is this enough to finally build a true relationship.

So much hurt on both sides, misunderstandings, things left unsaid and so much suppressed passion. Josie writes amazing love stories with a nice little twist to keep you hooked until the last page.

This book was a fun book to read!!! I love a good second chance surprise baby romance. The story line was original and written beautifully. The world that Josie Hart created for these characters was unpredictable, written in vivid detail and kept me turning the pages until the end. The characters were complex and had fantastic angsty chemistry. I loved the angst and push and pull between the main characters. My heart broke and my stomach dropped a few times and then I felt my heart pick up speed at the most delicious parts.

Layla was an independent, stubborn and loyal woman. She had a secret she fought hard to keep. I loved her determination to achieve all she wanted to in life. She definitely wasn’t a doormat. Luke was broody, possessive and a total Alpha. I enjoyed their interactions with each other. Their chemistry was off the charts and scorched the pages.

Wow! What a great read! A ten-year span of Luke's & Layla's first love feelings starting in high school. I was intrigued at the beginning as to why there's such a span of time until they met again 6 yrs. later. Very interesting reading on their sparring back & forth, only to make up with as much energy, if not more, when they were arguing. Thank goodness for friends & family to step in, talking to them separately, to explain what they would be giving up & to face their true feelings for each other. I wasn't sure while reading if they'd find their HEA but Josie Hart did her magic with words & made it happen! A heart-warming romantic love story. Worth grabbing this novel & read it!

Layla and Luke were high school sweethearts. Luke broke up with her just before college. Layla was heart broken. 4 years later they run into each other in New York and things get heated. Layla afraid she will end up heart broken again leaves the next morning without talking to Luke. Now 6 years later they are on vacation with their best friends not knowing that each other will be there. They still can’t keep their hands off of each other. Can Layla forgive Luke for breaking her heart and can Luke forgive Layla for not telling him that he has a daughter. I enjoyed this story and would recommend. This is a second chance romance between former high school sweethearts, Layla and Luke, who had a one night stand six years ago. These flawed characters and the unique plot make for an entertaining read. Once they reconnect, their sizzling chemistry and strong connection are undeniable as they navigate the bumpy road to their forever after. It is a love story with drama and steam, redemption and forgiveness, sexual tension and chemistry, and twists and turns, plus appealing secondary characters to keep the reader interested. An engaging page turner.

DNF'd at 55% mark because there was a lot of sex and not enough details or explanation. Now, I love me some smut but not at the expense of plotline and some likability of the main characters. The back and forth, hot and cold of both were dizzying. It made the book slog along even though I got through the pages fast. I only did because the sexy times made it so. I didn't feel the connection between the two and the FMC annoyed me due to her lack of maturity. Pretty bad to not tell her baby daddy that he's the father after a lot of encounters already happened between them. Their issues could have been resolved with one conversation. ONE. Book needed more personal development.

What am emotionally charges story with Luke and Layla making various decisions that keep them apart. The love they dhare is special and the tension between them ignites each time they reunite. This was a great story where the need to overcome difficult situations made a great addition to this read.

Luke and Layla are wonderful main characters who share a past and a one-night stand that left her with a baby. Now years later they are stranded on a boat together will the truth come out?

Josie Hart has another 5-star book that is a must read. This story kept me wanting more from page one and it will you too. Great job Josie😊.

Secret baby Daddy had me hooked right from the beginning. Luke and Layla have always been perfect for each other; however, Luke’s family made it so that when they were in high school, they couldn’t tell anyone about their relationship. Six years later on a trip with friends they reconnect and boy oh boy do the sparks fly, making this a novel I didn’t want to put down and had me rooting for them to find their HEA.

First love meant to be

Secret Baby Daddy jumps off the page as the sparks fly hot and heavy between our couple. There are several tropes all swirled together into a very entertaining and sexy story. I liked the characters, Layla and Luke, and how they are written with depth and twists in their lives and relationship. They are a first love separated but meant to be couple and in Secret Baby Daddy that HEA is finally coming to be.

Great book

A book about a girl who her boyfriend that she thought loved her hid her from his family and broke up with her. Years later having a one night stand and she disappeared because she didn't want to get hurt. She was pregnant bit never told him. 6 years later sees him again and he wants her after all this time. But what happens when he finds out he has a daughter.

This one will keep you on your toes as you follow along with Luke and Layla learn that after a decade (excluding one night 6 years before) their feelings for each other are still there and still as strong.

It's a beautiful thing to finally find the "One". The epilogue gives the HEA the perfect ending.
