443 Disturbing Facts about Our World: Shocking, Ironic or Simply Sad Pieces of Trivia

Rate this book
From an award-winning author!
Following the success of my trivia website, RaiseYourBrain, I published several award‑winning compilations of hard‑to‑believe facts that have reached hundreds of thousands of readers. One of the chapters in each trivia book was “Disturbing Facts about Our World”.
In 2020, I filled an entire volume with facts about upsetting crimes and mayhem, combined with unbelievable yet real instances of misfortune and misery. This was a book where grim examples of bigotry and hypocrisy were intertwined with amusing stories of bad luck. Accordingly, I dedicated a whole chapter to COVID-19 trivia alongside other weird medical conditions. The book was received so well that now you hold in your hands the second instalment. I promise, it will shake you to your core!
I am well aware that many readers might be overwhelmed by the condensed negativity, but hey… a fact is a fact! Continue to read if you appreciate trivia However incredible these pieces of trivia might sound, all entries have been verified and fact-checked.

Born in Bulgaria, I have lived in places like Germany, Belgium and Iraq, before settling down with my family in Luxembourg. With varied interests, I have always suffered from an insatiable appetite for facts stemming from an unrestrainable intellectual curiosity. It has certainly influenced my academic background and career: after acquiring Master degrees in Greek Philology, German and English Translation, I graduated in Crisis Management and Diplomacy and, most recently, undertook an MBA.

My career has been equally broad and diverse, swinging from that of an army paratrooper and a military intelligence analyst; through to that of a civil servant with the European Commission, and presently, that of a clerk, performing purely financial tasks in a major bank. Member of MENSA.

"443 Disturbing Facts About Our World" by Nayden Kostov is like a rollercoaster of eyebrow-raising trivia. The cool part? It's all served up in bite-sized nuggets, so you can snack on shocking, ironic, or just plain sad facts without feeling bogged down.

Kostov's style makes it a breeze to read and digest. No need for a deep dive; you can pick it up, flip through, and have a good time absorbing mind-bending info. If you're into quirky facts that don't come with a side of information overload, this book's a laid-back journey through the weird and wild facets of our world.

I'd like to express my gratitude for having received an online copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

Book received for free from GoodReads First Reads

This was a really fast, entertaining read. I didn't find all the facts disturbing. Some were, others weren't, but they were all interesting. I would read the other trivia books by this author.

Interesting book on facts…. Some favourites of mine,

* the chainsaw was originally introduced to help during childbirth

* if you win the lottery jackpot, you have an increased chance of being murdered by a family member

The book's title explains it all. The facts were all interesting, yet very short snippets. They were sort of loosely organized into categories. It was fun to read, but there was nothing revelatory.

I received this book as a Goodreads giveaway. Yay!

This was a pretty cool find. This wasn't something I was able to cruise through but found myself reading it instead of scrolling through my phone. It's got a wide range of facts that range from funny to sad.

This was a quick and easy read I picked up just to read at night while I'm falling asleep.
Fact 425 took me out. Justice served.
