When Steve Hart and his wife Mary leave Texas, they look forward to an idyllic life in Bleak Valley.

The locals, however, have other ideas.

Wary of strangers and put out that the range they covet is being snatched away from under their feet, they make it their mission to kick the Harts out of Bleak Valley.

Their plan seems to be working when death threats nearly scare Steve and Mary away.

That is, until it’s uncovered the entire valley was left to them by the previous owner, and they reason they can’t not settle there now.

All too soon, though, shooting breaks out and further threats are made.

Murder lingers in the air, and the future seems bleak.

It’ll take straight shooting and strong nerves if Hart wants to come out on top.

Gambling their lives and future, he perseveres for what is rightfully his until the very end in this gripping Western.

Steve & Mary Hart travelled from Texas to Bleak Valley, the land that'd been left to Steve when his old friend died. The trouble was, he'd been murdered and it was for the Valley. There were a lot of people who wanted the Valley for themselves, and it seemed they would kill for it. When the sheriff recommended two men to remain by Hart's side, in his employ, they vowed to keep their boss and his wife safe. The attacks and ambushes, the determination to finish Hart off, rocked Steve & Mary. Should they leave the area to remain safe? They really wanted to remain, so Steve took the gamble...

Bleak Valley is the 3rd in the Thrilling Western Fiction Tales series by Neil Webb (which is apparently one of 50 pseudonyms of Donald S. Rowland of British descent). Unfortunately there are lots of editing errors, but putting that aside, the fast paced western was quite the thriller. One female in the whole story - Mary - which was quite unusual, but all in all, I quite enjoyed the story. I own the series, so have plenty more to read. Recommended.
