This was one wicked tale with so many subplots that I was quite unsure how the author would link them up. Man, she did it quite seamlessly.

I have to talk about the first scene in the book. WHAM!! It hit me so hard that I had to dance with glee at the horrific mind this author had, who could think up such a scene. As a doc, such a thing had always scared me during my years of study and work. Shudder... Shudder... THE. BEST. FIRST. SCENE. EVER.

Dean Matheson was back in his home town Maple Valley on the first day of his job as Detective. Eva too joined him as his partner. Their day started with a bang, a girl dumped in front of the church, beaten and nearly dead. A child missing, a dead body found mutilated on Eva's couch, along with the hunt for an old serial killer Beth Miller. Whew!! I could just imagine the stacks of files in their desk. Add to that, 2 kittens Scully and Mulder thrust upon them. The detectives had no free time to play.

My second book by author Wendy Dranfield, I was in awe of the nifty writing which caused the subtle shifts in the story. I loved how the author could think of so many plot lines. She was quite clever in the way she bridged everything and tied it all up in a pretty bow.

While reading the book, there was a bubble of curiosity to get to the twisted ending, the author always had one. And she didn't disappoint. There was a major reveal which would impact Dean's life still further... Maple Valley and the police team were never going to be the same.

An entertaining read where the characters were aplenty, and to guess some of the plot lines, I had to concentrate well. But I have to admit, I had an epic fail in my guesswork. Ah, there is always book 4.

Wow wow wow! I mean wow! I am still reeling from the end, think I am in shock! Woah there! This is probably the best one of the series yet and that’s hard for me to say because I LOVED Who Cares if they Die! This was gruesome, intense and one hell of a ride in Maple Valley. There is so much happening in this book, murders, new characters, old characters, crazy ones (!), missing children, documentaries, churches, haunted asylums, I mean so much!

Dean is home! He is finally home back at Maple Valley where he is now a detective with a shiny badge (oooh) and best of all is that Eva from the previous book lives here too and is his (Detective) partner. The first week in the job and a girls body has been dumped unceremoniously and taken to the morgue…then she wakes up!

That is just the start of the troubles for this duo! It was nice to see the old team, apart from Miller because well you don’t need him about, and see everyone is still there and Frankie’s Dinner, I mean that is its own character!

There is so much about the plot I want to discuss! We have the girl who has been found and we have a boy who’s been kidnapped, but are these cases directly related? We have a murder victim in Eva’s flat. We have an old enemy turn up. Yet the way in which Wendy has weaved her web you can’t tell if these are all separate acts of evil or if they are linked in some way.

I was left guessing throughout most of the book until my lightbulb moment but as I said before, Wendy gives us the reveal and we watch Dean work it out instead of us as the reader. But, and this is a HUGE BUT, the ending…what a sucker punch! I knew something like that might happen with the bread crumb of hints but I really didn’t think that it would. Plus there is a thread of a storyline with the girls which I have a fear may read it’s ugly head in a couple of books time!

I can’t see this series slowing down at all, and I really don’t want it too! I feel protective over Dean, always have, and I don’t want there to be a day there are no more stories from Dean! Sad day indeed! Dean has grown so much since the first book and his “playa” ways to this guy who cares more about the world around him after being brought to his knees more than once. This book has seen Dean’s world implode (at least) three times and wow these are some shocks I am not sure how he will get through them. However, this is Dean and I am sure with a certain someone and some cute kittens, Mulder and Scully plus Rocky by his side, he will have the support he needs. Well, I hope!

Dranfield’s writing has improved again with this book as she has you jumping through hoops just to get an inkling of what is going. She doesn’t make it easy for you, you may think she does but her style leaves you with thinking you are right but nope nowhere near. I will wait while you read her books and wait what is that noise..oh yes your butt on the floor as that is Wendy pulling the rug from out under you! She plays with the element of surprise and she works it to her advantage. She pulls you in her books and she hooks you in with the fast-paced stories and the short snappy chapters, all the while making your head spin and leaving you breathless.

I am completely sold on this series as it shows an incredibly flawed man, making his way through this world all the while trying to keep his life and the law in one piece.

Detective Dean Matheson is back and what a return!! He's gone back to his hometown, Maple Valley, for his new job, joining forces with Eva once more, and if he's looking for a quiet life then it won't be here!! From the opening few pages the action hits hard - and scary!- from the get go and doesn't let up! I'm still just about recovering from it all!

With a 'body' waking up in the morgue, to a missing child, to gruesome murders and the return of some old and crazy characters, this is a story that has a little bit of everything - and a little bit more!! The past never seems to let go of Dean and Eva and in this book they're both having to deal with issues that have plagued them both for many a year.

There's a relaxed feel to the relationship between Eva and Dean and that's why I love reading about them. Always looking out for one another, they're happy to let one another take the lead when necessary and the dynamic between them just works. Eva is a woman who doesn't take any crap from anyone so Dean is always aware of not pushing any boundaries - unlike others they may work with!

I also loved how the author doesn't rush the goings on in this book - there's so many sub plots that there could have been a need to speed things up a little, but each character and each storyline is allowed to breathe a little to really get you engrossed in the action!

It's pulsating, it's chilling and creepy and left me holding my breath on many occasions throughout! I had great fun trying to work out all the links and with that ending I am eagerly awaiting the next installment!!! Crime drama written to perfection!! Wonderful!

After Who Cares if They Die and Where the Snow Bleeds, I was looking forward to this third instalment in the Dean Matheson series, and in this case high expectations definitely didn't lead to disappointement - I found the new investigations just as enthralling to follow as the previous ones.

One of the things I like most in these books is that some scenes allow the reader to know a little more than the detectives have found out at that point - I enjoy the different kind of suspense that creates. In this one, another thing I particularly liked is that Eva Valdez, that we met in book 2, has really become a second main character. And, because Dean is back in Maple Valley, we get to see several characters from book 1 again.

For new readers, this book can be read independently but, because references to past events reveal big parts of the other books' plots that you would really regret knowing in advance if you read them later, I still recommend starting with Who Cares if They Die.

I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This series has definitely grown on me since the first book! At first, I found Dean a bit gullible and frustrating, but he’s really matured and become much more likable. That ending completely caught me off guard, and now I’m desperate for the next book! That said, I still have to admit—I prefer the Madison Harper series.

A great read to continue this series

I am pleased to say that I have now read all three in this excellent series and I really do hope that there will be a fourth instalment. This one kicked off right from the start and the action was pretty much continuous. Continuing the drama that Dean Matheson seems to carry with him everywhere he goes, there was plenty to keep us engaged and I loved to see that his relationship with Eva has greatly improved. This book had so many twists that it was extremely exciting and kept us guessing all the way through. On this occasion, unlike the previous two in the series, we didn’t actually find out who the killer was until almost the very end – although I have to admit that I had managed to work it out (to a certain extent). Then a really big bombshell was dropped which totally took me by surprise. Once more I did feel the ending was a little bit rushed but on the other hand, once the killer had been revealed the only things left to do were wrap up the story, bring it to a conclusion and leaving us with a teaser to make us want more. I really hope this author does treat us to a fourth in this series as I will definitely miss Dean, Eva and Rocky – not to mention Mulder and Scully.

Won’t You Save Me is the third title in the Dean Matheson series, and in my opinion, each book has simply gotten better, a bit more devious, a little smoother, flows a touch easier, and the villains definitely get more wicked and evil as time moves on. While I prefer to read a series in order, you could step into this world here and not be the least bit lost. Anything you’d need to know is in the dialogue or narrative. It would most likely entice you to go back to the earlier books to get caught up. Yeah, it’s that good.

Dean is back in his home town of Maple Valley along with Eva. On his first day back as Detective life is going to get extremely interesting when a young girl’s body is dropped in front of the church – and not is all as it first appears. Soon the cases will increase, the plots thicken, the danger ratchets up and you’ll find yourself in the midst of several investigations that may or may not have a connection. Not to mention two adorable, mischievous kittens, Scully and Mulder (love, love the X-Files names) are added to this delightful mix. Buckle up, sweetheart, it’s gonna be a bumpy ride.

I do not, will not get into plot details in any book, especially a Mystery. Yet you’ll find lots to keep you glued to the page in Won’t You Save Me from near dead bodies, truly dead bodies, twists, turns, surprises and an evil bad enough to make your skin crawl. I’ve enjoyed the earlier book but I think this is the best of the series (so far). Ms. Dranfield weaves a Mystery with the strength and delicacy of a spider’s web. You’ll think you have everything you need to solve it, and maybe you do, but there is always something to step in and bite you on the arse that changes things just enough to keep the tensions high until the very end.

I’m definitely hooked in this world and will no sooner finish one story then I’m anticipating how long I must wait until the next release. If an author can always keep me wanting more, then I’ll always return for that promise. If you love a good, solid Mystery then Won’t You Save Me should be on your e-reader bookshelf right now.

*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher, Choc Lit/Ruby Fiction. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*

What an amazing sequel from Who Cares if They Die and Where the Snow Bleeds

This was exciting and edge of your seat reading - absolutely compelling and a rollercoaster of a ride.

There were so many ways the story could have gone and you are left gripped by what will or could happen next. Didn't see a lot of the outcomes coming - which is just incredible.

We meet Dean, Emily, Eva, Rocky and lots of the same characters from the previous books and it's as if they are all real. They seem to come alive the more you read.

Eva - like me me is haunted by random single balloons being tied up ... they remind her of the film IT and Pennywise. I can't watch or look at anything to do with either - but Eva and Dean hear strange goings on at a new attraction featuring a haunted house and seriously messed up and scary occurrences happening as soon as you walk inside. It turns out this is the least of their worries.

Beth is back and up to her old tricks. Dean finds himself having conflicting feelings for his co-worker and the woman keen to sell his house. But it is not all as it seems.

Sit back, curl up and absorb this intensely addictive storyline !

Oh and the even better news is there is another book in Dean Matheson series coming our way soon - and I am literally so excited ! Can't wait.

Starting his new job in his hometown, Detective Dean Matheson is glad to be back and so are we.

He has a tumultuous past and he hopes he can leave it all behind, but is that possible at all?

In this third part of the series he is still trying to deal with the effects of what he has been through and the present is not really kind to him. People often keep secrets to protect someone, but that someone can see it in a very different way. They might not thank you for keeping quiet, but rather feel betrayed.

Don't mess with Dean or his friends, because he is alive and kicking. You might think twice about double-crossing him. He will find out the truth, deal with the baddies and support the ones who need it the most.

Another great story by this author and usually I have a name in mind to put the blame on. This time I was utterly shocked by the revelation. I never saw that coming. I love it when that happens.

Thank you, Wendy Dranfield and Ruby Fiction.

Won’t You Save Me was not ideal late night reading for me, so for your own peace of mind, check your doors and windows before starting chapter one.

I was immediately gripped by the sheer horror unfolding. A morgue in the dead of night, a pathologist working alone, unexplained human noises. Then a dead body sits up after unzipping themselves from their body bag. It's all so chillingly described.

Police officer Dean Matheson, introduced in a previous book, is now teamed with Eva Valdez and together they investigate the murder of a young woman. All is not as it seems with many unexpected twists and turns.

The last quarter of the book was 'unputdownable'. Not to be missed.

This is a gripping read that will grab you by your lapels and shake you until you have finished the book.... and even when you have turned the last page you will be begging for more from this amazing author.

The story is full of twists and turns, and evidence which seems inconsequential but Is all part of the bigger picture, with the jaw dropping ending leaving me counting down the days until the next instalment is released.

Make a date in your diary to read this, and when you do, make sure you switch off your phone/text/social media and be prepared to be held captive from chapter one until the end.

Another brilliant book by Wendy Dranfield. Dean and Eva are back and this time bring their unique partnership to the Maple Valley Police Department. They hit the ground running. A serial killer is on the loose, Dean is concerned a young girl has hit the rocks, the corpse at the morgue is anything but dead and the town is full of clowns. It had me hooked from page one. Do not start this book late at night, Wendy keeps ramping up the tension, and if you’re anything like me you won’t want to put it down. Thank you Wendy and I can’t wait for the next one.

I've followed Dean Matheson since Who Cares if they Die. Won't You Save Me, the third book in the series is by far the best. Now settled back in Maple Valley with his new police partner Eva Valdez, a visit to the hospital morgue sees the beginning of a chain of events which will catapult him back into the past and unfinished business.

A totally entertaining read with a gripping storyline which made it a book that was hard to put down. Sad when I finished it but hopeful too as the ending definitely indicated we've not seen the last of Dean Matheson.
Highly recommended.

This 3rd book of the series ties up the loose ends from the first two books but also stands alone well. Dean, and his new partner Eva, are confronted by 2 seemingly unrelated murders and it takes all their experience to try to solve the enigma. The twists and turns will keep you entertained throughout the book, and the pages will turn fast as you can't wait to see what happens next. Good versus evil, ones hopes that good will prevail but nothing is certain in Maple Valley.

Wendy Dranfield has a distinct style. If- like me- you find it difficult at first, keep going as you will soon find you cannot put this down. If you have not read the previous stories it does not matter but reading them in order gives you three times the thrills! The ending has two massive surprises. I'm looking forward to the next installment of Dean's story already.

I was sooooo looking forward to reading this, the third book in the Dean Matheson series, and I was not disappointed. Dean Matheson has got what he has always wanted, his detective’s shield. It’s his first day back in Maple Valley Police Department, he is raring to go and Wendy Dranfield has no intention of easing him into the job lightly. Dean and Eva Valdez are hit straight away with a case; a young woman almost beaten to death. Soon followed by the report that a young boy has disappeared and then a brutal murder, which is unnervingly close to home. Are these cases linked?

Just when you think you know what’s going on, you don’t. The suspense never lets up in this book; there are plenty of heart stopping moments, heaps of tension and oh boy can Wendy Dranfield drop a bombshell. A brilliantly written book. WOW!

I have read nearly all of Wendy Dranfield's books all within a few weeks. I am obsessed! They are so intense, almost like a fast paced action movie... something I honestly did not think could be accomplished in a book.

I have thoroughly enjoyed everything she's written and getting completely lost in each story. With each one I finish I think, "okay, THIS one is my favorite!" And then I'm immediately blown away by the next read in the exact same way.

However I MUST say that as I was finishing this book, my mouth was truly, physically hanging open!! I am craving more books in this series and can't wait for more!

Another brilliant book of this series!

Really invested in all of the characters and the whole story (Please let there be another more to follow!!) There's so many twists throughout it has you hooked from the very beginning!

I love how much all the books in the series link up in depth, you definitely need to start from the beginning of the series to understand the other two books fully.

If you haven't read this series, start now you won't regret it! It's one of my all time favourites!

Won't you save me

OMG what a series. I have to say this series has had me turning pages every spare minute I had. The story was great with so many twists & turns you suspected so many people and just kept you so intrigued the whole time. Poor Dean what a roller coaster he been on. I only wish him & his partner wd of had a better ending. This author is amazing how on top of the main story line all the individuals have there own story's also going on so there's always something getting you gripped & suspicious. I'm just so gutted now that this series is over. I've read all her other series too with was equally as amazing and now I have only one more of her books left to read with im reading next. I'm looking forward to seeing another series of books coming out from her! If ya love a murder mystery these books are for you. Please don't leave us too long without another long series ..some of the best books I ever read

The series keeps improving despite…
…the fact that, once again, it’s written in the first person. This time, at least it’s later on in the book before the perpetrator is known.
Dean and Eva are back in Maple Valley, both detectives, with Eva now Deans boss. There are several crimes to be investigated and at least 2 unkown bodies to identify. Slowly but surely Dean and Eva and the team ferret out clues that tie the cases together, and it’s a race against time to close them before more deaths occur.
Fast-paced, action-packed, with nicely drawn characters. If the villains are a bit pantomime, and Eva and Dean dash off alone and unsupported all the time, it wouldn’t be half so much fun.
And there’s a very unexpected twist to keep the reader hooked for the arrival of book four.
