This is a collection of four steamy romances set in Texas as the Christmas festive season approaches. Each contains a couple who were meant to be together and finally get their chance at a HEA ending. All in the small town of Sand Dollar.
Gingerbread Kisses features Ginger Starr and Brock Daniels, who grew up as next door neighbours and used to be friends, until they went into high school and he got off with one of the popular girls, Chelsea at the school dance they had gone to together. This was the start of their split, as he joined the popular group with the jocks and cheerleaders and she was labelled as a nerd. Now he is back in town after four years away at college in Paris, France, and he is pulled in to help at her parents twelve days of Christmas celebrations. Her mum has roped in his parents as well as him, to join them on the first night of these celebrations and has her wearing the most outlandish and tacky dress, to the ugly Christmas jumper evening, because it’s kind of too hot to wear a jumper really. Her mum has extended the celebrations this year to race money for a new children’s wing at the local hospital. Her family absolutely adore Christmas and go all out, something Ginger loves as well. Brock’s nickname for Ginger is Gingerbread and he called her that all through high school, as he tried to torment her at every turn. Things get all turned around after her dad is rushed into hospital and Brock accompanies her there and sticks with her to support her.
Her mum asks her and Brock to run that day’s event for them, while she keeps an eye on her husband. When they get out of the hospital, he can’t resist kissing her and it’s mind blowing. He takes her home to change and then meets her back at the beach for the sandcastle and sandman making competition. She is wearing a skimpy bikini which hugs her curves and he can’t stop looking at her, as do others, which makes him kind of jealous! She is great with all the kids, having taught a few of them and having a great rapport. When her best friend Annie finally manages to make it, after recovering from a bout of food poisoning, she is surprised to hear that Ginger has a date with Brock, her nemesis. It seems she was wrong about him all those years and young boys and immature young men often do show their feelings by doing what he did back then. He has never hated her and reminds her of all the times they were together and held hands as kids, before Chelsea came between them! He cooks her dinner and then they spend a wonderful night together. She is gone in the morning and is lucky not to see the scene when Chelsea turns up uninvited. She wants Brock back and hasn’t given up on him and won’t believe he is in love with Ginger, who she saw leaving. A few unwanted words whispered into Ginger’s ears, have her thinking she was not good enough for him and Brock will have to work even harder to persuade her that she is all he has ever wanted. Her and to open his own art gallery in their small town and to share his love.
Mistletoe Surprise has Ginger’s best friend Annie Fitzpatrick finally facing the mystery man, Ginger’s brother Kris, who she has secretly been in love with for years. She had only admitted to having a mystery man she fancied to Ginger, some four years before, but she has no idea how she can tell her that it’s her own brother she is in love with. It’s not the done thing! Kris is home for Thanksgiving for the first time in years, always being busy or overseas as a marine, but now he is home permanently with PTSD and panic attacks, that saw him medically discharged from the job he thought he would be doing for life. He has had to move back into his parent’s house and his former bedroom and has no job or idea of what he could do. When he first sees Annie after all these years, he can’t believe how sexy she is, with curves he just wants to grab onto, never mind the weird wording n her t-shirt. Annie is now a photographer and graphic designer and she mostly takes photos of semi-naked men for romance book covers, having found it much more productive than messy kid’s photos or weddings. She is half Chinese and also Jewish, but loves mixing in with Ginger and her family’s Christmas madness, something Kris is not too keen on. With Annie’s parents being away on a holiday and she being a single child, she is automatically invited to Ginger’s family celebrations. At the end of the mean when they are both trying to get away, he asks if she wants to come home with him and she makes it very clear just how much she does. He doesn’t want to make it awkward for her with Ginger, so she tells him it will just a single night o hot sex!
Only problem is that one night gave them an unexpected addition to their world and Annie needs to find some way of telling him, before telling his sister who the father is. Pulling him away into his family’s study, they can’t resist each other and were unprepared this time, and as he realises he tries to apologise, only for that to be the moment she tell shim she is pregnant. Unfortunately, the news triggers a panic attack in him and not having told her about his attacks or his PTSD, she takes his reaction as a confirmation that he wants nothing to do with her and that it was a one night thing. She is resigned to raising the baby on her own and knows she can do it, but she has the wrong end of the stick. Kris believes his issues make him unworthy of her and possibly even a danger to her, and that is the last thing he would ever want. Brock has words with him, after Ginger was too angry at how he upset her bestie Annie, and made him realise that the path to love is hard, but he needs to allow Annie to make her choice about him and whether she wants to be with him. They both clearly love each other and are meant to be together. It is up to Annie to make him realise she loves him no matter what and accepts him warts and all. One baby down and another on the way, with joyous news for Ginger and Brock the following Christmas!
In Snowed In With The Grump, Jackie Cuevas and her nemesis Luca Daniels end up in a snowed in cabin together, after a bit of meddling by their best friends. Jackie is a hairdresser and works in Luca’s little sister Savannah’s hair salon, in the small town of Saddle Creek, but she is getting depressed at seeing loads of pregnant women all around her, including her boss and friend. She had hoped she would already have one or two kids by now and it hasn’t happened. Her former relationship with Matt was actually split apart by Luca himself, after he spotted him cheating on Jackie with another woman, the one he went ahead and married, Sophie! Luca works as a FBI agent out in Oklahoma, where Savannah and Ren’s cabin is, and has brought along his cute dog Mabel. Neither knew they would be sharing the cabin, but at least it has two bedrooms, so she won’t be forced to share with him! Ren tells him to reveal the truth about Matt, so she will realise he never hated her and has in fact secretly been in love with her for years.
A large storm blows the generator and Luca pushes his way into her bed to share body heat as the temperature drops. She realises this is sensible and nothing happens, but then he awakes her the next morning with an entirely erotic and mind blowing taste of things to come! She wants him to do more and asks him to, coming to realise that she has been in love with him for ages, especially after seeing how well he treated his sister and so much more. She believes their time together has just been about sex for him and wants to escape quickly and quietly, but that would never get around a trained agent like himself! To make her stop walking out the door, he has to tell her the truth of what happened with Matt, including the fact he was the one that stopped him when he came back around her once he was married, still wanting Annie. Luca wasn’t having Matt mess with her and made himself clear to Matt. Now all he wants is right in front of him and hopefully they will finally find what they want together, especially when matters don’t work out quite as quickly as they had hoped on the baby making front to start with. But good things always come to those who wait and Luca has been paying attention!
In Candy Coated Curves, Roni (Veronica) Cuevas has been trying to get the attention of her big and burly boss Nash Lloyd, in the candy store they both work in and that he owns. He has kept his distance from her for ages, thinking she wouldn’t be interested in someone as big as him, nor one who is almost old enough to be her father. But what he doesn’t know is that she started working in the shop because she liked him and has tried all sorts to make him realise this. She even goes out to the local bar, hoping he would be there with his friends, so she can shape her booty and body, pulling him into her, as she has noticed him looking at her sometimes and thinks he obviously finds her curves attractive. Just he has never made a move! That is until someone more her age puts their hands on her in the bar one night, even after she has made it plain she isn’t interested in him. His friend Ian has also stirred the pot to make him jealous and it seems to have worked. Nash hurries over to her and puts himself between the obnoxious college boy and put his own arm around her, pretending to be her boyfriend and then taking her away. Roni tells him he will have to keep on pretending until the holidays are over, as she has realised who the man is and he is the son of the town gossip!
She tells him they will have to go to the local market and walk around holding hands, to sell the rumour. Only problem is that he doesn’t come and pick her up and she is upset. When her best friend Amber texts to ask where she is, she tells her exactly what to wear and to get down there as he is already there. It is all part of amber’s plan to get the two of them naked together. She had a similar issue with her partner Quinn, who was also her boss and much older than her. Let’s just say that a certain fake snow machine malfunction and see through clothing when wet, certainly riles up Nash and has him carrying her away to somewhere private! After a wonderful night together, he rushes off to do something private and Roni heads out with friends for a meal. Nash tries to find her after she doesn’t answer her phone or at home and then calls Amber to get her location. Unfortunately, the same group of college boys are around and the same one tries to harass her again, all as part of a points collecting game with his mates for bragging rights! Certainly not the sort she would ever want to be with. A comment made to the stuck up kid, is overheard by Roni and she takes it the wrong way completely. He has to rush after her and show her what he truly wants form her and how all in he already is, for her to believe him and accept he loves her, curves and all. Yet another surprise for her and her sister Jackie as their men show just how much they love them and will do anything for them.
Four totally sweet, but also completely steamy, stories of love in a small town. Where your best friends often know you better than you could ever know and will do all they can to help you get the man you love. From best friend’s siblings to former friends and from boss to employee, all find their place in your heart over the Christmas season. I loved how connected all of the characters were and how we get to see the bestie also find their love. Lots more stories to be told and to be read by the sounds of it and just the perfect length with all four stories in one collection. I hate reading really short stories on their own a lot and so having all four in one was the perfect way to read them. There are hints of the other stories and which characters will find their perfect match at the end of the book, and it is great to recognise the names from the stories I have read here. I look forward to reading them as well. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
Gingerbread Kisses: Ginger Starr and Brock Daniels used to be the best of friends, until one day in high school he picked a girl and the popular crowd over his best friend. From that point on Ginger saw Brock as her nemesis. Their parents being best friends and neighbors made it tough for her to avoid him. After high school Brock traveled to France to study and he hasn’t been back since. Now Brock is home for good and he wants to make amends, but he realizes that even in that terribly hideous Christmas dress Ginger is all grown up and all woman. After an overdue apology on both sides, some dirty talk on Brock’s side they finally have their night together. I loved that Brock’s gesture was in the middle of the Christmas celebration in front of everyone. It was so sweet.
Mistletoe Surprise: Mistletoe Surprise features Ginger’s brother Kris and her best friend Annie. Annie has always crushed on Kris but never acted out on it. After a little too much wine Annie tells Ginger about her crush, leaving out it was her brother of course. Ginger tells her to go after what she wants. So she does just that. Annie and Kris have an amazing night together. Even though Annie wants more she agreed to one night and leaves it at that. Until two pink lines change both of their lives. Kris suffers from PTSD and panic attacks from his time in the military and feels he has nothing to offer Annie. Even though she is all he can think about.
I love that Brock and Ginger were so supportive of both of them and even talked some sense into Kris. Kris listens and goes for his girl. This one was super sweet with a little bit of heat.
Snowed in with the Grump: Super cute, super quick Christmas Novella. Luca and Jackie both end up at the same little cabin. Apparently set up by their respective best friends who also happen to be a couple. Jackie is a hard worker and thinks she is getting away for a quiet getaway. Only to come face to face with her “nemesis” Luca. After a heavy snow fall, they wind up stuck together. Luca is determined to make Jackie see that their history is not all that it seems and that he’s been in love with her since high school.
Candy Coated Curves: So I loved Luca and Jackie in Snowed in with the Grump, and was so excited to see that Roni was Jackie’s sister. Roni is in love with Nash but Nash thinks he’s too old, and big for Roni. Cue the Crawford’s and Roni’s best friend Amber who went through a similar situation. She puts a plan together to force Nash to admit his feelings. A couple snowballs later and some candy cane leggings…. Roni finally get her man!!!
It’s always difficult to imagine Christmas without cold weather and snow, but Texans are innovative and there is no less joy experienced whether it’s a sandman or a snowman - they improvise. The author must have personal experience to deliver this collection of delightful Texas romances. I consider them 2 duets, because the first 2 stories link siblings Ginger and Kris Starr. The second two stories link sisters Jackie and Veronica Cuevas. In “Gingerbread Kisses” Ginger and her childhood next door neighbor Brock Daniels reunite years after her middle school meltdown, when Brock the jock became involved with cheerleader Chelsea. Brock returns home from his art history education in Europe to reestablish himself at home in Texas and with his former crush Ginger. But he has to go over the top with a Santa getup and sing a contemporary Christmas song to win Ginger over…permanently. In “Mistletoe Surprise” Ginger’s brother Kris and her bestie Annie Fitzpatrick overcome his PTSD and his low self esteem with a ton of love and 2 little pink lines. They also combine their religious heritages by adorning a Christmas tree with little dreidels and menorah ornaments. Too adorable!
“Snowed in with the Grump” finds Luca Daniels and Jackie Cuevas holed up in an Oklahoma cabin alone through the manipulation of Luca’s sister and her husband. Neither was prepared for the other to be there, so Jackie was greeted by an armed FBI Lucas shocking them both. Read about their hilarious exchanges. I’m uncertain of the grump’s identity. While Jackie is entertaining Lucas, sister Roni is trying to seduce her boss Nash Lloyd at his candy shop in “Candy Coated Curves”. All his friends know Nash is all “hot and bothered” for Roni, but he thinks he’s too old and out of shape for her. His jealousy and ownership are aroused by the deviously lewd interest of some college preppy. That’s all it takes to motivate him.
What also connects these Christmas stories is the celebration of these plus size young women, with their healthy appetites and plus size personalities, by their appreciative plus size Texas hunks! I have received an ARC from Booksprout and I am leaving an unbiased review voluntarily.
I received this as an arc from the author and I’m voluntarily leaving my honest review.
Gingerbread Kisses: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was a great friends to enemies to lovers romance. It was a short story with a great holiday vibe. Brock and Ginger had great chemistry and I loved them together.
Mistletoe Surprise: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was a really cute best friend’s brother romance. It was a short, well written story with a great pace. The story was set after Gingerbread Kisses but it’s necessary to have read that to enjoy this one. Annie and Kris were so good together and I loved their HEA.
Snowed in with the Grump: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This story was just a cornucopia of wonderful tropes. I loved it and I loved the parallels that Jackie draws between her own reading material and the situation she’s in. Luke was so yummy and I loved him. The backstory between him and Jackie had so much more going on than what I expected and it really showed what a great guy he was. As always in a Kat Baxter story it was filled with steam and amazing chemistry. I loved it.
Candy Coated Curves: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was a fantastic age gap romance. I loved the fact that both Nash and Roni were described as being larger than average, especially to show that the perfect romance hero doesn’t need washboard abs, he could very well be a husband size teddy. Roni was a sweetheart and I loved her. She had amazing chemistry with Nash and I loved the stunt that her friend pulled to get him to act on his attraction to her. It was a story full of heat and humor and what more could you ask for? Well maybe a story for Ian?
This was an OK set of short romance novellas. Since all the stories were short, there wasn't time for a lot of character development. I usually prefer more backstory on the couples, and more time for them to fall in love slowly. For this reason, the set gets 3 stars from me.
Most of the couples had known each other for a while, so their falling in love was believable -- but I actually felt that some of them were more in lust than in love. They all ended up having sex very quickly in the stories, a little too quickly for my taste.
My rating system is below. 1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it. 2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws. 3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating. 4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one. 5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.
Gingerbread Kisses: A sweet, cute little Christmas story. Wonderful characters. Funny. Romantic. Sexy. So glad the mean girl loses. Loved it.
Mistletoe Surprise: Mistletoe Surprise was such a fun little read. Sweet, sexy, and HOT. Annie and Kris have history together, including a childhood crush. Their chemistry is off the charts. Their Christmas traditions are sweet. It was also fun to see Ginger and Brock again, from Kat Baxter’s book, Gingerbread Kisses. I loved reading this little story about a curvy girl and a wounded marine.
Snowed in With the Grump: Back to the Saddle Creek world for the Christmas season! I’ve just loved all the stories Kat has written about the people in this small town. And this one is no exception. Sweet, funny, steamy and so satisfying. Jackie gets snowed in with the man she thinks is her enemy this holiday season. Tension and humor ignite to keep the cabin warm and toasty. I like my holiday stories to always have an HEA, and this one is perfect.
Candy Coated Curves: I loved this fun, steamy holiday story. Nash and Roni are wonderful together. Roni is equal parts sweet and sassy. Nash is a growly, cinnamon roll of a man. When this husky man and curvy girl match up, the steam between them could melt snow. Well, if there was any snow in their little Texas town. Cue a surprise appearance by Johnny to kick things up a notch. Come back to Saddle Creek for the holiday. It’s always an excellent place to be.
I was eager to have a Christmas book, and this is a very good collection. Fun, flirtatious and realistic, there's a boss, a best friend's brother, curvy girl and more. It's feelgood, sexy, and festive.
Baby It's Hot Inside: A Collection of Four Steamy Holiday Rom-Coms is the perfect winter warmer and would make a great Christmas gift for any romcom fan. It's the fifth book I've reviewed by Kat Baxter after Saddle Creek: The Whitmores books 1-3 and The Grouchy Lumberjack's Bride (Book #2 of The Mountain Men of Saddle Creek series), all which I enjoyed.
The plots and characters are imaginative, and so are the titles for each story, and that's what I loved about this. You can go through the stories in order or dip in and out of them and start with whichever you like. I also like titles which have a good play on words, and this does on the traditional saying baby it's cold outside. Very good idea.
4 stars
Thanks to Kat Baxter

Baby It's Hot Outside is a steamy collection of four short Christmas stories and I loved them all. Here are my reviews for two of the books in this fun collection. Snowed in With the Grump: Jackie and Luca have known each other forever because he's her best friend's older brother. When they get stranded in a cabin together things heat up and they realize all of the misunderstandings from their past were them hiding how they really felt for each other. I loved this sweet, enemies to lovers, small town romance. Candy Coated Curves: Roni has had a thing for her boss Nash since she started working for him. Nash also felt something for Roni too but he felt he was too old for her. This is a sweet, steamy, older man/younger woman fun Holiday romance. I loved how protective Nash was over Roni. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
I love Kat Baxter and all of her books. I thought I had read everything by now, but I was pleasantly surprised to find out that I hadn't read these books in the past. The collection is so good. I loved every second of it and couldn't put it down when it arrived on my Kindle. The stories are all different and they take you for a ride with different emotions. There is a book for everyone. If you love friends-to-enemies-to-lovers, you will love Gingerbread Kisses. If you love the best friend's brother trope, Mistletoe Surprise is the one for you. Snowed in with the Grump is enemies-to-lovers and so good. Lastly, if you love a good age-gap novella, Candy Coated Curves is the one for you.

Great set of steamy short stories!! 3 of these books I would rate 5 stars, and 1 of them 4 stars, so a really good set. These stories had holiday cuteness, happiness, and hotness. The steam factor is off the charts. The characters and world building were amazing in each one. All very enjoyable books, and I definitely recommend this set!!
I received an ARC of this book, all opinions and thoughts are my own.
The stories are small-town romances where the main characters are siblings paired up with what they call a bully, an old friend, a best friend, and a boss. Of unrequited love, of wanting a baby, an old crush. All revolve around the Christmas season.
I enjoyed reading each one and crave more of this kind of story.
