In the small seaside town of Mendocino Cove, secrets buried deep within a charming beach cottage awaken a timeless story of forbidden love and romance.
When Christy, a retiree seeking a fresh start, discovers a cache of unsent letters from the 1940s, she unravels the tale of a love torn apart by World War II. Little does she know that her best friends, Georgie and Agatha, harbor secret connections to the past that will forever change their lives.
With the help of a sisterhood as capable as they are loyal, the women embark on a heartwarming journey to navigate an entire saga of hidden family ties, unsolved mysteries, and the enduring power of love.
Both captivating and heartfelt, this tale will transport you to a world where love letters echo through generations, where the sea holds secrets, and where the past and present collide in a story of love, friendship, and the timeless bonds that tie us all together.
I loved the book and loved most of the books in this series, but it seemed to me that there were quite a few loose ends that weren’t tied up. Especially with the last mini book. What happened with the storm. Then in the previous book, did Agatha’s son and his family make the move? Did Christy’s nieces make the trip over from the UK? It just seemed like we were left hanging.
This is a story of three very different friends who are getting on a bit in years but still live life to the fullest. I was so happy to read a story where the main characters are older women. They have such stories to tell, and still so much to live for and discover. Christy’s story especially came as a surprise for me. She seemed so put-together and self-assured in the previous books, and it hurt my heart to see her, albeit temporarily, brought so low at a point in her life when she believed herself to be secure and able to enjoy her retirement. She seems so authentic, her struggles so real, but then her resilience and the support she gets from her friends is equally convincing and very inspiring. I loved the second chance at love that comes her way so unexpectedly. The setting of the story is beautifully written as always, and the food, there’s so much delicious food … Do not read this book while hungry! Barbara’s part in the story was also not something I saw coming. I loved the mystery of it, all the intense emotions, even if some of those were linked to a sense of loss, and I adored her butler! And then Agatha… she’s such a great friend, mom, mother-in-law and grandmother. I was relieved and so moved to see what came on her path. Really enjoyed every bit of this book. Recommend.
{3.7⭐️} honestly i didn’t expect to actually enjoy this book, i was js in the mood for something different and chose a random kindle recommendation, im glad i chose this one. it was a very nice easy read. at first i was skeptical bc the characters were in their 60s and ive never read a book in which the main characters are older than 20s. but this was a heartwarming story about friendship and second chances and i really enjoyed the small glimpses of ethan and christy’s youth and barb’s parents short story, the letters made me feel the feelings being described and mostly i loved agatha’s story, i could feel how not being able to be as close to her family made her feel , and it hit even more because it made me think of my grandparents and made me wonder if they felt that too. overall i don’t think i have the right words to explain it but as an 18 year old reading about these grown characters it helped me realize that life goes on after your 20s (idk if that makes sense) and that no matter what point in life your stuck in you can always make it work.
To many food descriptions Christy moves to Mendocino after she retires. Remodels the cottage by Billie and Agatha. Agatha send a construction guy to Christy turn out it was her first love. They work together for the cottage. He kissed Christy’s sister and they broke up he keep in contact with Abby as she was an alcoholic he was there to help her and that saved his life. He knew the nieces and Christy got in touch with them asked them to come visit. Christy and Agatha friend Barbara finds out her aunt was really her mom. The aunt that lived in Christy’s cottage. Jimmy the man that was alway looking out to the sea was her dad that is where the aunt drowned.
I swear I started to stop reading this book several times, and I don't know why but continued to the end. I feel like I've gained five pounds at least reading all the food descriptions. The ladies really know how to enjoy food. The story is sweet (literally) but since I hadn't read the earlier books in the series, I really didn't know much of their back stories. Anyway I finished it and now will go bake something.
Mendocino Cove is the epitome of a small town in days past. People know each other, chat on the streets, share each other‘s news (and gossip). Agatha and Barbara are lifelong residents of the area, and when Christy returns after retirement, they reconnect. Agatha’s a bit over the top, but I guess there are people like that too. Each character is well developed and likable. The setting is perfect. The story is sweet. There was nothing I didn’t like.
Wonderful story with beautiful descriptions of sunsets, beaches and the ocean. Christy, Agatha and Barbara are amazing, mature women who face their challenges with determination. The story will definitely keep your interest and you can’t help but get invested in their lives and loves. I received a complimentary copy of this book and this is my voluntary, honest review.
Book 6 of this series and the only book I've read in the series. Sweet, lovely friends living in a beautiful sea cove. Christy comes back to the cove after leaving her job in As Francisco. She is in a bad way, working in a fast paced art world. She made a mistake and is broken. The cove and some old friends help her to mend.
I needed a filler book while waiting for my library book. This was on Book Bub and sounded easy and a fast read. It is #6 in a series, but this is the only one I have read I felt it was a little boring in the beginning, but then picked up. It’s the story of 3 friends in their 60’s and their lives in a coastal town In Ca.
I bought this book because it sounded like it was about sisters. The sisters relationships are hidden in all the descriptions of what the characters are eating and the beauty of the landscape. Maybe if I had read the previous 5 books, I'd like it better. I tried to get the bonus short story hoping it will download.
This series is everything that warms your heart and leaves you feeling in good spirits. Barbara, Agatha and Christy know each other better then sisters. Their families and friends make up the wonderful town of Mendocino Cove, a place I would love to visit.
This book ties up most of the previous stories. Agatha has a visit from her son and daughter in law about coming attractions. Christy reunited with old love and news about her sister's daughters. Barbara finds out secrets about her parents and aunt. Enjoy
Life has a way of turning out the way its suppose to. Christy was getting her happy ever after. Retired, great friends, and a warm home.. Life is good. Friends are the family we chose.
The characters are well written and made to feel like real people. Really enjoyed this book. Didn't realize it was a book series. Now I need to go back and read the others.
I was extremely disappointed with this book. I thought it would wrap up the other stories from the previous books, but it didn't. Agatha and Christy from the other books were here, but a new character was added and this became her story. Not what I expected.
What an entertaining book! The characters were interesting and well-developed & made me want to be a resident of Mendocino Cove. Ms Brooks made the residents come to life.
I love this series as it attaches to the other series that I have read love reading about friends that reconnect and enjoyed their life. And zfriendshipsn
This is a lovely series. I read all six books in less than two days. The characters are special and the stories are wonderful! I recommend this series whole heartedly!
Slow to start. Storyline jumped between characters so you needed to pay attention to who was the subject of the chapter. Easy read. Would be a good beach vacation book.
I was sorry to have the book end. I loved the characters & how they interacted with each other. So happy the young lovers found themselves in later years.
Very good series! The characters were very good, and the plots were interesting. Loved the author’s descriptions of the beach and vineyards. Well written.
