Sasha Lace has fast become one of my favourite authors! The world she exposes, the world she builds, has me glued to my screen from the first word to the very last!
Lying always comes back to bite one in the ass, and boy did it bite Lana! A one night stand, on impulsive, turned into something way more. Sasha's very descriptive writing has me really not liking Lana in the previous book, but hello.... Ms Lace turned me around 360 with this book! The insight into Lana's life was honestly illuminating. The reason she is as she is was blown wide open and her centre it exposed is one of a scared little girl lost in pain and grief. What she shows is a far cry from who she is. She's perceived as a rebel, untrustworthy, unreliable and a wild cannon. She is non committal and flighy but that's her safety mechanism, hiding her pain, pushing her pain deep within her. But she unravels when a chance meeting with a very yummy Scotsman sends her entire being spinning! Heck, he set MY entire world spinning!
Aleksander is gorgeousness personified! Honourable, dedicated, an amazing father to the most adorable little boy, a man closed off since the death of his wife. He just wasn't counting on Lana and her precociousness, he wasn't counting on how she'd make him feel and he definitely wasn't counting on her getting under his skin! The "thing" that happens between Lana and him escalates into really steamy hot scenes, super yummy! I loved how they both tried to deny it, tried to deny themselves, but hells bells, who were they trying to kid????I adore this strapping, sexy, gorgeous Scotsman! Even when he's betrayed and cut to the core, his goodness and compassion is intact.
Family is at the centre of this tale, loyalty and blackmail, love and grief, acceptance and pain, all very emotive, all very real. In the world of sport, in the football world, reputations are made and lost, reputations that don't deserve the flack, that have no bearing on the truth are shattered. And the press, the notorious press, will go to any unscrupulous lengths to get a scoop, even when they know that lives will be destroyed. I love the realism with which Ms Lace carves the strory, the brutality of this world. I love the positivity the author injects along the way, the clear message, "look below the surface, you'll be surprised at what you find" And I found a beautiful story of misunderstanding, of grief, of hope and the most beautiful of all, pure all encompassing love. The author's writing held me firmly between her very skilled hands, eliciting a happy sigh at the end of the book. A definite one click for every book by this author for me!
