After catching her boyfriend in an affair, Rosie Hayes does what any reasonable person would and befriends the other woman. Together in a scorned sisterhood, they move to a kooky small town in Maine to open a coffee and crystal shop. Along with this new chapter, Rosie acquires a new Carson Kouris, the resident grump of Pine Bluff. Not only does she live in the loft above his hardware store, but it’s also across the street from her witchy shop. Too close for comfort is an understatement after their rocky start. But Rosie soon realizes Carson doesn’t talk to anyone… except her. She sets to uncover what this brooding mountain man is hiding and why the townsfolk call him Cursed Carson. And what starts as curiosity turns into long nights in his cabin, skinny dipping in moonlit lakes and romps on the forest floor. All unbeknownst to her new friend and business partner, who happens to be dating his estranged brother. Everything changes when an accidental fire erupts, and secrets they’ve both been hiding spill out. Is his cursed reputation simply a small-town superstition, or is being with him a real threat to Rosie’s safety? Searching for answers, they must keep their love a secret at the risk of everything going up in flames. But a connection like theirs can’t remain hidden for long. When it comes to love, sometimes your only hope is not getting burned.
Feverburn can be enjoyed as a standalone novel but will reveal major spoilers for Stormbound, the first book in the series. It is told from a first-person dual point of view, with no cliffhangers. If you love grumpy lumberjacks and witchy women, look no further!
Maggie Maren is a lifelong weirdo and misunderstood mystic. Combining her deep love for nature and romance, she enjoys playing mountain man matchmaker. Her stories transport readers to cozy cabins and the great outdoors, where kooky characters find love.
While earning her English literature degree, she worked as a bookseller, because clearly temperance isn’t her strong suit. Her curious ways have led her to some interesting forays as a librarian, professional tarot reader, crystal merchant, and some dark ages in corporate America.
When she isn’t scowling at her laptop writing, she is usually reading. If she isn’t reading, she is either dancing, sipping iced coffee, yipping at the moon, adventuring with her own mountain man, or ugly crying over a majestic sunset. She loves to hear from her readers, preferably in the form of a haiku, but hey no pressure.
If you've seen the TV show "Gilmore Girls," then you are going to fall in love with this book. (Lol, I made a fall pun.)
Anyway, I was so shocked at how the first book is connected with the second one. Two women are betrayed by the same man, and instead of hating each other, they are now best friends and open up a shop together.
Small town charm in beautiful Maine. There is a lot of women's empowerment vibes. I loved seeing the old characters and was curious to see which couple would star in the next book. I love series written like this; it allows me to dive deeper into a world I already love.
The grumpy-sunshine vibes had me kicking my feet and giggling. What I love about the author's books is that she doesn't just jump right in to them getting naked; she develops the romance, which makes the spice scene even more amazing, and the love they have for one another brings tears to my eyes. Speaking of good feelings, the author knows how to write tension, and when the first spice scene happens, it's an explosion. I never get flushed by a book.
Small town ✅ Lumbersnack ✅ Scorned woman ✅ Grumpy man ✅ Witchy kooky woman ✅ Foreign language sweet somethings ✅✅✅ Sweet mountain dog ✅✅✅✅✅✅
What more do you want!! Add in some super smexy time where everything around you turns foggy , you have a killer book which you can't stop reading . Carson and Rosie ,there is nothing that I can say that won't make you fall in love with them. Such a beautiful story, the classic mountain lumbersnack and a scorned woman who meet and you know it in your bones that it's magic. I can't say much without giving away the amazing plot line of this one. You have to read it to enjoy the experience of Carson and Rosie
I knew after only a few pages into the ebook that I needed a physical copy of this book!
I will lock myself away from distractions to become fully immersed in this story. I have no regrets ignoring people and responsibilities while reading this book. It’s a whole experience!!! The depth that the plot, setting, and characters have is unbelievable. The characters are extremely real and detailed (it’s all of the characters - not just our main couple). And at times these characters are just plain kooky. I love that they all have a unique way of behaving and talking or grunting. Their quirks are AMAZING!
The chemistry and friction between Carson and Rosie is something else. The way they fight their attraction and antagonize each other only makes their bond stronger. Their banter is chef’s kiss. And their spice…delicious, sensual, and primal.
Rosie is an amazingly fierce, resilient, bada$$, witchy woman. She’s an inspiration. Carson is a quiet, grumpy, broody, lumbersnack of a man with hidden secrets and talents.
They might not seem like a match but love & fate know best.
This book made me smile, laugh, cry, and swoon. I found some unexpected inspiration and learned a little about myself too.
All in all it’s a binge worthy book that you’ll also want to savor it.
While this could be read as a standalone, I would recommend reading Stormbound first to get the full experience. It’s another amazing read! But if you’re a rebel and want to start here you could; there are spoilers for Stormbound though.
I am in love with how Maggie can make me relate to and fall in love with her characters. I think 106 highlights speaks for itself. Her dialogue is fresh and Sassy, but has so much depth. The spice is delicious and so well written. I will be rereading this every Fall because it gives me the biggest witchy vibes. Authentic lovers of the earth witchy vibes.
This is the second book in a series, but I must’ve missed that…and I red this one first! I’ve never red anything else by @authormaggiemaren, but this was so good 🫶! I’ll preface by saying this is different in a cool, eclectic way. It’s got lumberjack Greek men, witchy women, some crystals, curses, spells, and lots of spice! That being said, you should prob read Stormbound first 🫣. Regardless, this has some intense moments, so check the tw. Here are the goods:
☕️Greek lumberjack/Grump MMC ☕️Witchy, Independent FMC w/trauma ☕️Love 🔺s ☕️Only talks/interacts with her ☕️Coffee & crystals shop ☕️Secret relationship ☕️Spells & curses-intensity ☕️Dirty little secret ☕️Soulmates ☕️Hea
Blurb: After finding out her boyfriend was cheating on her, Rosie leaves Tyler…and eventually becomes besties with the other woman, Kaylee. The two women are kindred spirits and move to Maine to follow Kaylee’s new love interest, a Greek mountain of a man Forest Ranger. The two open up a coffee/crystal shop in Pine Bluff, Maine. As the shop undergoes renovations, Rosie starts to spend time with Harley’s quiet and broody older brother, Carson. Carson is known as a cursed man in Maine, as his other girlfriends have met untimely deaths. As time goes on, the secret flirting becomes intense, and lines are crossed, but there’s more at stake then a reputation…
This is the second book in the Pine Bluff series. The characters and seasons are different in this book but the town feels the same; which I love because it’s like returning to a place I want to be. This part of the Pine Bluff series is distinctly more witchy than the first one, a little more mystical. It fits the characters. We get to learn more about the town and get deeper into history between characters (best part of reading a series!).
Carson is the grumpy town cinnamon roll and a “lumbersnack”. He gets all the points for having a great dog and being an artist.
Rosie is healing from a cheating boyfriend and comes to Pine Bluff for a fresh start. She’s witchy and wild and it’s easy to see pieces of yourself in her character.
The story takes the us through many different phases of their relationships with each other but also relationships with other characters and both main characters go through their own development.
The spice reflects the strong chemistry between the two characters and their connection to the seasons/nature. There are a couple scenes that will live rent free in my head forever (solstice and the blessing, looking at you).
If you’re looking for witchy women and mountain men this is your series!
Feverburn is book 2 of the Pine Bluff series. So we find Rosie at the gut wrenching moment of the other woman walking in on her and her boyfriend Tyler.
Rosie decides to take up an offer from her friend Kaylee and moves to Maine. Where they make handsome Greek mountain men.
Rosie is living in a loft above the grumpy hardware store owner downstairs. Carson is cursed. All of his exes have died because of him.
Rosie and Carson go from friendly to enemies to lovers, because of both of their past traumas and not wanting to hurt the other person.
Their banter and antics had me laughing.
On a serious note, once again I am reflecting on my own life and how this resonates so much for me. Moving 2500 miles away to start over. Wanting to heal, and then meet this man that will change your life. Or as Rosie puts it, “he was a fucking man.” The healing that they worked on for themselves, as well as together. It’s like all these moments leading to where you’re supposed to be.
Carson is the town silent grump and also rumored to be cursed. So he lives his life for the most part alone wishing it could be different.
After the cheating debacle that caused Kaylee to crash in pine bluff and fall for Harley, Rosie gives up her life in Boston to open a coffee and crystal shop with Kaylee.
While getting the shop ready for the grand opening Carson and Rosie get to know each other and she feels special because while he is normally silent her spends hours talking to her. They realize pretty quickly there is an attraction that neither of them can ignore but at different times refuse to act in it so they decide to torment each other. After everything is said and done tue “curse” is broken and they have their HEA.
I enjoyed this book. I liked how things were kept very mysterious, but constantly lingering around at the same time. I enjoy the characters especially the FMC. I love the distinct personalities each character has. This book did make me cry at one point.
This contemporary romance is quirky and fun. The witchy vibes in the story line make for a marvelous reading experience. The romance between the FMC and MMC is a tantalizing slow burn. The story line remains a easy focal point throughout the characters personal trials. The steamy scenes are routinely layered into the story making for a spicy read.
I've only read the second book in the Pine Bluff series, but I fell in love with it. The vibes in this book are immaculate, and the level of communication between characters is stunning. The spice is so freaking good! I loved the confidence that Rosie carries, but also her moments of insecurities and how she portrays herself.
I also love Carson and his silent, broody ways with others when, in reality, he is a fluff ball. I might say that I've learned a lot about crystals, herbs, witchcraft, and how paganism works. This book had me in an absolute chokehold and made me read it in one sitting. Maggie has just become one of my favorite authors with this one; I absolutely love it
I love these two grumpy people! Another witchy success for Maggie with Carson and Rosie! I love their story so much and my heart just kept breaking for them! Our favorite couple Kaylee and Harley play a huge role in their story (definitely read Stormbound first!) Although, there is some relief from the heavy feels with a quirky husky named Kiszka, a ganja granny named Viviane, and a best friend named Bear. Main points: ❤️small town ☕️semi slow burn ❤️she's a bog witch ☕️he falls first ❤️it's a secret ☕️theres a curse ❤️touch her and die vibes ☕️IF HE WANTED TO, HE WOULD
This is book two in Maren's series and it is just getting better. Carson is so attractive with his caring nature who doesn't want their own Carson! Rosie is spicy and is as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside. Maren shares more about the town and the true vibe of the towns residents. The characters of this town are so entertaining! I hope somewhere there is a small town like this I truly would move there. Beautiful story with a wonderful little twist at the end that will make anyone feel warm and fuzzy. Perfect fall read.
This book was described as enemies to lovers but I don’t think that really fits. They were never truly enemies but fighting a pull that they couldn’t, more accurately, didn’t want to prevent. They both had some trauma. I felt for Carson in the first book and even more so in this book. I could understand better why he came off as assholish and silent to most people. I loved Rosie but she also made me want to slap her upside the head a couple of times when she started getting a little whiney. I love that crazy bat Viv and hope to see more of her in the next book.
In book 2 of the Pine Bluff series we follow Carson, Harley's brother from book 1, and Rosie, Kaylee's barista from book 1. After Kaylee convinces Rosie to move to Pine Bluff to open a witchy coffee shop we learn that Rosie has come to find herself again and heal from previous relationships. She finds herself living above a grumpy hardware store owner who believes himself to be cursed and unable to find love.
The way these two are drawn to each other and fight against it the whole book had me itching to keep reading. Each time one would decide to be all in the other would do something to push them away.
This was the best kind of enemies to friends to lovers. It was just as charming as book 1 without the instalove aspect.
If you love a small town romance where the woman is trying to find herself and accidentally finds love along the way this is the book for you!.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is an interconnected standalone featuring Rosie, the barista from Stormbound, and Carson, Harley’s older brother. Second in the Pine Bluff series, Feverburn is a small town, slow burn, enemies to lovers, with found family and witchy themes. This definitely makes it in my top 10 for 2023. The chemistry, the banter, the buuuurn. Maggie Maren has somehow made this one more delicious than the first.
Rosie moves to Pine Bluff to start a business: coffee, crystals and scorned women. She’s looking to start over and create a new life for herself, not to start drama by dating the brother of the boyfriend of the woman her ex cheated with. Oh, and she’s also her new business partner. Her life is complicated enough without adding a man to the mix. Especially not the tall, bearded delicious lumbersnack that is Carson.
Carson is the town grump. He’s quiet, artistic, loyal and oh so very lonely. He’s always dreamed of having a big family, but there’s just one tiny little problem. He believes he is cursed and the last thing he wants is for another woman to get caught up in it. But maybe he could take a chance for his fiery magissa?
The connection between the two is instant, but they’ve got some healing and sex magic to do before they can find their happy ending. I laughed, I cried, I contracted a fever of my own -if you know what I mean-. If you love small towns, lumbersnacks, secret relationships and weird witchy women, I highly recommend this book.
This book was truly amazing! I expected no less after Stormbound but WOW!
Rosie and Carson had to walk a tough path to be together and overcome some serious obstacles but they were determined to do it together and break his “curse”
So so so beautiful to watch this grumpy quiet man slowly coke out of his shell when he found his true life partner 🥰🥰
The characters make this book an easy read. If you love witchy things feverburn is the perfect book for you. The fmc is a witchy girl looking for a fresh start, and she finds it in a small town, where she has to live on top of the town grumps hardware shop. Very cute read!.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Great books about two strong witchy women and their over the top sexy mountain men. Love the explanations for the crystals and herbs and ceremony. The real trauma women can go thru and the fact that strong friendship can move mountains 😉
Feverburn is the story that keeps on giving. Carson and Rosie are relationship goals. The drama and trauma play into the story so beautifully. I couldn’t recommend this book more!.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Great character depth and balanced between heart break and healing. The interaction between characters was realistic and flowed naturally. Spicy scenes were hot and a natural progression of the characters journey
I really need this series to never end. I loved Kaylee and Harley and how in tune they were together. This?! This was a whole new level I loved so much! I would love to see Dane and Bear get knocked down by some witchy women, too, please!
I absolutely loved this story. Rosie is so funny and witty. Carson is so sweet and understanding. It's well written and will make you laugh and cry. Great job, Maggie!! 10 out of 10 would recommend
Feverburn is the first romance I ever read and rated FIVE stars. The characters are perfect. Loveable, relatable and both hot as hell. My only issue was some totally outlandish, medical info that should have had more research.
The story is amazing! A sweet yet great enemies to lovers story that's sure to keep you guessing and on few occasions scream "WHAT?" It's very funny & sweet also! Definite recommendation for anyone!
I absolutely loved Rosie!!! She was so sweet but also didn’t take any crap from anyone. The way she was able to bring Carson out of his shell simply by existing was so amazing to see. I loved how protective Carson was towards her but he also listened to her
