I’ll do whatever it takes to prove to Carmen that I can protect my girls. Then nothing can stop me from putting a ring on her finger. A Brother’s Best Friend Clean Romance.
Derek Archerman was listening to his friend and business partner Brett on the phone as he watched his daughter Fiona. Brett told him his sister Carmen was moving home after 10 years and he was going to stop to see her. Derek had last seen Carmen at the end of his senior year when his family moved to New York for his father’s job. Derek’s life was so different now with all that had happened to him. He wondered if he had not moved, would he and Carmen have pursued the feelings they were beginning to have. Derek and Brett started a construction company together and it was doing well. Life was improving for him and Fiona. Her mother Casandra was a horrible disruptive element and he is grateful that she is gone… and then the school called to say she tried to take Fiona off the bus! Would she start trouble again?
Carmen looked around her new studio. It would need restoration, but she loved the challenge. She had studied in Paris under an art scholarship, but it was nice coming home again. She had missed being here. Looking out the window of the studio, she saw a little girl looking in at her. There didn’t seem to be an adult around. As she was asking where her mom or dad was, an angry man shouted at her to get away from his daughter. Carmen then reprimanded him for letting her wander on her own. She was too young for that. He seemed spoiling for an argument but she sighed and told him not to take his anger out on someone trying to help next time. Then he and his daughter walked away. He had been terrified his ex-wife had kidnapped her!
Brett and Derek arrived for dinner and to re-introduce him to Carmen. Brett was confused by the reactions of his friend and sister who looked like they had just see an old enemy. This was not the fun, cheerful, kind Derek from high school! No longer boyfriend material, would they even be able to get their friendship back? He wanted to apologize but this wasn’t the right time or place. So they kind of avoided each other. And even Carmen’s mother felt the tension. He still didn’t say he was sorry, and her hopes of finding love with the boy from high school now grown up were looking impossible now. Did he have no feelings at all for her anymore? What would she have to do to get him to smile again? And when the “deranged” Casandra showed up to snatch Fiona from Carmen who was watching her while Derek was out of town, the woman was not prepared for Carmen’s resistance and protection of Fiona. She never backed down, had Fiona lock herself safely in the back room, and fought back when the woman thought she could cower her. (I was cheering out loud as I devoured Carmen’s protective side defending Fiona. It was glorious!)
You know this is not the end of the battle to come. So grab your copy and see what Casandra tries next. Derek will need to take action soon before his crazy ex-wife seriously hurts someone, especially someone he loves.
First time reading this author, this book is a second chance with a grumpy man (Derek) and in the end they achieve their HEA, but I didn't end up engaging much with the love story. I liked Carmen and I loved Fiona, Derek's little daughter, the relationship between them is really very nice. I feel like Derek was missing something to make me fall in love, I just empathized with him when he tells Carmen why he became a grumpy boy after what happened with Fiona's mom. The fact that Fiona's mother appears in the book was unnecessary for me, I didn't like that part at all. But overall, it is a short and easy to read story.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Hell may have no fury like a woman scorned but they must take second place to a woman deranged. Derick and Brett, Carman’s brother, were business partners and all three had been friends as teens. Derick and Carmen’s first meeting after her return from Paris could have gone better, not recognizing her, he thinks she’s working with his ex-wife to kidnap his daughter. Thankfully things could only go up from there, that is if you can forget about the ex-wife. Daisy Flynn brings drama, romance, friendships, humor and a few twists.
Carmen and Derek knew each other years ago but hadn't seen each other since, so they didn't recognize each other at their first encounter after her return to town. They are forced to work together, though, and they reconnect as friends.
Then his ex comes in with all her craziness. Here, the cute rom-com takes a turn into suspense. It's intense in spurts, but still a sweet story.
The characters are relatable, though their situations aren't. The main characters' family and friends jump at the change to support them when the need is known, and that was great to see.
Single Dad, second chance was such a cute book. Loved Derrick and Carmen, from the beginning to the end of the book. Those two just played off each other perfectly. Can't wait to read/listen to more of the books. Daisy is such a good author, this one seemed to be just as good if not better then her first book. I have received a complimentary ARC audiobook from the author for a fair and honest review.
I love how this book started out! It was a super funny meeting between Derek and Carmen even though they didn’t realize it. I like the chemistry between these two and feel like Fiona really forced them to come together.
This is a dual pov, clean romance. It is a second chance, brothers best friend trope.
This book was a first forme by this author. I read it in just a few hours. It was a quick, fun, and clean read. This book is about how two people who were close at one time, got separated for different reasons and they found their way back each other. Love was always there, they just had to find it again.
While this book is covered like a romcom it definitely falls more into the suspense category. I liked this small town, brothers best friend romance. There was a single dad, a sweet little girl, painting, construction, and more. It was a nice book. This was the first I’ve read from this author.
I received an advanced listener copy of this book and I enjoyed it. It is a clean romance book but there is some drama in it. I enjoyed the duo pov of Derek and Carmen. I would recommend this book.
I felt like the book was rush a little bit too much! Like everything was just happening way too fast for me but I do love everyone’s relationship with each other!
Well we finally have a book that got me out of my 6 month reading slump! This was such a quick, easy, funny and fast paced read that. I found myself fully engrossed throughout reading this. the writing style was easy to follow and I loved the characters and the depth they had to them with it being such a short read🥰
Derek and Carmen hadn't seen each other since high school. There first meeting didn't go well but names weren't given so when he came over to her mom's with her brother for supper and to reconnect with her they're caught off guard and dinner becomes tense. When Carmen has to take on his ex to protect his daughter will that help Derek and Carmen get closer or become too much? Will he ever be able to get his ex out of their lives and keep the little girl safe? This was the first time reading a book by Ms Flynn. I look forward to seeing what she comes up with next. I received an ARC from the author. Review voluntarily given
