A couple of decent stories here, but in my opinion this really doesn’t represent the best that Lovecraftiana has to offer and is a bit of a disappointment. Nevermind, there are plenty of back issues to get through at least!

I have to give kudos to the publishers and contributors though, for not bowing to a campaign of pressure by unknown individuals determined to have stories suppressed on the basis of political leanings from 40 years ago (as stated by the editor in an afterword). One does wonder what would have happened to the genre of Lovecraftian horror if people like this had gotten their way with the man who popularised it…

Somewhat disingenuous title … ( ? )

All of these are stand alone horror stories that do Not borrow anything from The Cthulhu Mythos or any genre that Lovecraft may have invented ?
Okay I guess, nothing shockingly memorable ( ? )

A couple of gems in this fan-polled best of anthology from throughout the magazine's history, but it misses the mark lacking the truly indelible stories that have graced the magazine's pages.
