When a peaceful Hamptons village is rocked by a gruesome murder, all the evidence points to one man. His only hope rests in a former prisoner—one-time legendary jailhouse lawyer, now exonerated free defense attorney, Alfie Rainbird. Struggling with the mental scars of incarceration and following a string of reckless altercations with colleagues, Alfie Rainbird is forced to take a sabbatical while the board of his law firm decide whether to finally cut the volatile lawyer loose. When a body turns up in East Hampton and a young waiter is charged with murder, Rainbird is given a final chance, but it has a catch—he must win this case or it’ll be his last. With the life of his client on the line and his career hanging by a thread, Rainbird must use all his connections in both the criminal and legal world as he walks a delicate path in the quest for justice and redemption. Can he uncover the truth before it’s too late? Or will a ghost from the past derail it all—putting his client behind bars and consigning Rainbird’s career to the trash?
I would actually give this a 4.5. Was a little slow getting going and it took me a minute to actually figure out who the main character was LOL. once I figured out it was Alfie Rainbird I really enjoyed getting to know him. Overall, this was my first read by this author and I really enjoyed it.
Writing and depth of detail was excellent. Unfortunately found the storyline very choppy and inconsistent. Too many characters, some of little relevance. The interaction between Mitch and girlfriend should have been more key, but left out of story.
I found Mr. Rainbird, portrayed as a lead character was boorish, overweight, an over-eater and exhibited any lack of a leading role personality.
This novel leads the reader to the rollercoaster twists of the plot and only lets the ride end once the story is over. The drama and stomach clenching reach a fever pitch as the murderer is finally revealed. J. P. Lincoln is a great writer who I will be following as of now, It's that good. No spoilers, happy reading.
Intriguing compelling read the whole book today. I was hoping that there was another one behind it. I absolutely love the Lawyer storyline and the whole shebang I can't wait for his next book I hope it's soon
The protagonist starts out as a rogue, jerk sort of person who you grow to respect and like in the end. The other characters are interesting as well. There are twists and turns and it never fails to hold your interest!
Read this book I borrowed from the library. Enjoyed it. A little confusing in places. Good courtroom drama. Alfie Rainbird is an interesting character. Really liked him. He got himself out of jail by studying the law and representing himself. Interesting book.
What a great read! Thrilling story all the way through the book and one of the best parts, no foul language! it was a pleasant surprise and made it extra enjoyable. Thank you J.P. Licoln for a book well written.
