Wrapped with a Beau

Rate this book
In its heyday, Piney Peaks and its beloved Christmas house were made famous by Sleighbells Under Starlight , a romantic holiday movie. Fifty years later, the small town is ready for a new love story.

Elisha Rowe has her heart set on one thing and one thing putting her hometown back on the map. So, when she gets the chance to secure the long-hoped-for sequel to Sleighbells Under Starlight, she's willing to do whatever it takes to make sure everything goes smoothly. Unfortunately, that includes claiming to have already gotten permission to film at the town's historic Christmas House-permission she was very much denied by the mysterious new owner.

City boy Ves Hollins is only back in Piney Peaks long enough to sell the house he inherited from his great-aunt. The holidays have always been tough for Ves, and it's not any easier when he's distracted by memories of a Christmas long, long ago, and the irresistible charm of his new neighbour, Elisha. He has no plans to put down roots or fall in love...even if Elisha is unravelling his hesitations like a bad Christmas sweater.

There's no question the two are opposites in every way. Ves is undeniably frosty. Elisha is brimming with warmth. He doesn't do commitment. She never runs from a challenge. But as the two grow closer, they quickly realize that the growing spark between them may be just what the season calls for...

This design beautifully illustrates key aspects of the storyline, leaving nothing for me to nitpick.

Writing: 🌟🌟🌟🌟
The casual writing style seemed fairly simple but had a fun, creative flare that brought the cosy small-town setting and storyline to life. I also loved the banter and wit infused into the conversations, as these regularly made me smile and laugh.

"everything is possible with grace and gumption"
"Seek magic and you shall find it"

Storyline: 🌟🌟🌟
Despite Elisha’s first impression that was memorable for all the wrong reasons, the sparks between her and Ves gradually developed into a grumpy/sunshine romance. This cute storyline was entertaining and heart-warming due to the struggles of the characters, but also simple and predictable.

Main character(s): 🌟🌟🌟
Impulsive and good-natured, Elisha’s character is the opposite of the predictable and prickly Ves. Even so, both characters are caring, witty and passionate about their work, which makes them realistic and easy to love. I only wished they had received more depth to make their characters less generic.

"If you were mine, I wouldn’t let you wear anything gifted by another man."
"Not everyone is fortunate enough to be loved unconditionally and unreservedly by the people who brought you into this world."

Secondary characters: 🌟🌟🌟
These mainly consist of Elisha and Ves’s family and friends, who help drive the storyline. However, none of these characters received enough focus to make a strong impression on me.

Romance: 🌟🌟🌟🌟
I could not get enough of the teasing and banter that formed the foundation of the connection between Elisha and Ves! Their chemistry and attraction were also nicely shown, and it was great to see them get closer to each other through cute, genuine moments (though certain aspects made me cringe).

"Flesh is a word that gives Ves the heebie-jeebies. It’s repugnant, right up there next to moist and phlegm and yolk."
"Competence is always a threat to people who are used to skating by on mediocrity."

Narration & Audio: 🌟🌟🌟
Keylor Leigh and Sean Patrick Hopkins enrich the story with vocal variations for the different characters and emotions within the story. Still, something about their inflexions did not feel entirely natural or suited for the cute storyline.

In short, 'Wrapped with a Beau' was a simple, light read that was also entertaining, cute, and perfect for the festive season. Another cosy, small-town romance to check out if you loved this is Book Lovers by Emily Henry.

Incoherent review alert. Originally when I read this book I thought it was a new to me author and after reading discovered I had already read one of her books and enjoyed it. That was a shock to me because this book... it was not good. A grumpy sunshine with a man that honestly was not very grumpy, just slightly introverted with some trauma and an annoying heroine.

Normally with Christmas books we don't get enough of the holiday, in this book we got too much. It was too much Christmas and had every Hallmark story shoved all into one book. If the author had stuck to the original story outlined in the description, it would have been very good! But instead too much was added in and everything went all over the place. Lots of potential but it just fell flat. Don't forget it had incredibly cringe sex scenes I disassociated and tried my best to forget

Holidays

I'm a total Scrooge, but I loved this so much. I liked THE DECOY GIRLFRIEND. I loved THE SHAADI SET-UP.

Small town girl Elisha Rowe is trying to get her northeastern hometown on the map. It's famous for SLEIGHBELLS, a holiday movie filmed decades ago, at the house across the street. The proprietor of that house just passed, and her big city great-nephew inherits. Sparks fly.

This is steamy. There is pain. There is pleasure. I love Ves. I love Elisha. I love Elisha's family. I love the cats. I love this small town. I don't even like small towns. Except that one I went to in Sweden. I digress. I love everything.

A warm, cosy holiday romance, with a grumpy x sunshine pairing, a dash of spice, and Christmassy happenings aplenty.

I liked the set-up, I enjoyed the enviable small-town setting, I loved the secondary characters, and the romance was very sweet and sexy, once it really got going.

My personal mistake, however, may have been that I listened to the audiobook (because I didn’t have any library access to the actual book at the time) and I had a few issues in doing so.

The story itself was dual POV, as was the narration, and I found myself loving the MMC, Ves, performed impeccably by Sean Patrick Hopkins, but I didn’t fare as well with the FMC, Elisha.

I think my disconnect with Elisha’s character had A LOT to do with the particular voice that narrator Keylor Leigh used for Elisha’s dialogue. It was whiny and grating on my last nerve, very early on (literally page one), reminiscent of Velma’s voice in the original Scooby Do cartoons, to put it into some form of context.

It was especially vexing because Leigh (the narrator) delivered a flawless narration on all other counts—from the general narrative parts, to Elisha’s inner monologues, to voicing Ves and other characters during her POV chapters, I thought she was great. But the fact Elisha came across as so shrill and child-like when talking, unfortunately seeped a lot of enjoyment I may have had from this story otherwise, which was a damn shame.

So, I guess, I would say the story itself was very nice, and I’d be happy to try more from this author, but I don’t think I would recommend the audiobook. If you have interest in reading this small-town holiday romance, and you have the means to do so, my advice would be to definitely try the actual book over the audio, if you can.

Sweet and cute and funny and very Christmassy, but I didn’t feel a thing. D*mn, I wanted to like this book so much!

It might be the overkill of sugar and honey, literarily with spiced crumb cake, blueberry muffins, and bebinca while I’m on a diet right now. And I hate to read about sweets when I’m on a diet!

It might be because the story felt like so many others. A constantly present ex, two hot MCs, adorable and meddling family members, etc., etc. Okay, but nothing special, a bit too Hallmark Christmassy for me.

Or it might just be me. Or the third person, present tense writing (not my favorite). Or the time of the year. Maybe I shouldn’t have started reading this book when I longed for sun instead of snow, and spring finally announced itself here.

So, please check out other reviews of this book and ignore mine!

I received an ARC from Penguin Group Putnam and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I think I might keep this beau wrapped up... 😬

Lillie Vale nailed the walking in a winter wonderland vibes. I loved that this story could literally be a Hallmark movie. I am a sucker for the sweet & festive romance. It makes me weak in the knees.

Seriously, I am about to buy a house in Piney Peak to live there for the rest of my life! An infamous Christmas house, a cozy bakery that makes treats that will knock you off your feet and the small town goodness of quirky neighbors? I don't know how you're not already bursting with holly jolly cheer. (ps. the quotes are too delicious not to swoon...."You taste like Christmas came early..." eeeee)

The story idea. The cozy neighborhood. The endless holiday puns. It's the cutest. It makes me want to die but...

*pours liquor into eggnog*

I was underwhelmed with Elisha and Ves. I just wasn't vibing them. They did nothing for me. They felt super juvenile. Between Ves's woe-is-me attitude and Elisha's personality boarderline translating to a pre-teen. The mistletoe could have stayed in the box. If you know what I mean.

I know I am going to get so dragged for this but...I think where it turned for me was when Elisha told Ves he looks good smiling...If this was written roles reversed. The world would burn. I just think complimenting someone on their will to express happiness is not a compliment. From a woman. From a man. From a pug. From a string bean. It's just not it.

There were a bunch of small weird things added throughout that made me grimmace a lot. Ves liking to sniff her. Kind of weird? Elisha describing his "scent" as a savory food. A lil' gross? How anyone outside of Piney Peak was made to wake up from a perpetual stubbed toe. Meh? Elisha's favorite Hobbit being Pippin?? Now thats just plain WRONG!

But don't let me talk you out of Lillie Vale's festive story. If a romance surrounding a small town with endless festive wam & fuzzy feels is what you need to put a smile on your face than you need "Wrapped With a Beau" this December.

Christmas in a small town is always a treat, and I throughly enjoyed my time in Piney Peaks. Elisha was the sunshine to Ves' grump, and it was wonderful seeing them fall in love. I did feel for Elisha and her painful past coming into her present, but it was Ves I was way more invested in.

Ves had people in his life who offered warmth and support, but he always felt on the outside of it. His parents were very hands off and shuttled him off to boarding school and other places so he wasn't underfoot. I loved the way Elisha's family and the people of Piney Peaks embraced Ves. They showed him the type of affection he always desired, and I swear, I could see his heart melting.

Overall, this was a sweet and fun rom-com that delivered the warm fuzzies I expect from a holiday romance.

Elisha Rowe, a successful film liaison, is determined to bring her hometown into the spotlight by securing a sequel to the classic holiday film Sleighbells. In her pursuit, she falsely claims permission to film at the historic Christmas house, owned by the nephew of her friend who just passed away. Ves, in town temporarily to sell the inherited house, is resistant to the holidays due to past memories. Despite their opposite personalities, as Elisha and Ves grow closer, they discover a spark that might be just what the season needs.

I really enjoyed this book. There was a lot of good tension between Elisha and Ves and their banter back and forth was so fun to read. I didn't fully understand the storyline with Elisha's ex and felt like that could have been edited out but all the other secondary characters were great, especially Elisha's grandfather! If you like a grumpy/sunshine romance with all the holiday vibes then read this!

Wrapped with a Beau is everything I want in a holiday romance! Adorable meet cute involving an assault with a candy cane and elf pajamas? Check. MCs with different views on Christmas? Check. An adorable small town that loves Christmas? Check. I am very much a big city person but books like Wrapped with a Beau make me want to move to a small town and buy an old Victorian house. I loved the history of the town and the Christmas house. I also really liked learning about Ves' family and great-aunt throughout the story. I wanted to snuggle up in the Christmas house and read all of the romance books! I also liked Elisha and Ves' relationship. When he told her if she was his she would never wear clothes from another man before they were even together I was in! This is the perfect combination of a great setting, interesting characters and a good story. This one is a must add to your holiday TBR!

Thanks to Penquin Group Putman and netgalley for giving me access to this one early to review. All opinions are my own.

Thank you NetGalley and Penguin Group Putnam for providing me with this arc of Wrapped with a Beau by Lillie Vale!

Elisha Rowe has a passion for all things holidays and films, and wants to see a recreation of a classic movie that was shot in her hometown, fifty years ago come to life again.

Piney Peaks’ beloved Christmas House was the most famous filming location of Sleighbells Under Starlight, Elisha’s favorite holiday classic. Elisha has recently moved back home to be with and support her parents and their business. At twenty-eight, she is single, working full time and hoping to accomplish a dream that has been hers for a long time as well as her late friend, Maeve’s; to see Maeve’s beautiful house aka the Christmas House in Sleighbells Under Starlight be featured in an upcoming sequel to the beloved classic.

Elisha has one obstacle to overcome. Unfortunately, she had already confirmed that the famous house was available for filming for the new year, without asking the new owner - Maeve’s great nephew who just recently moved in. Opposites attract in this adorable romantic comedy filled with hilarious banter, undeniable tension and an addicting slow-burn romance. Elisha finds unexpected romance while trying to also convince Ves Hollins that the holidays are most definitely, the most wonderful time of the year.

*My Review*

I genuinely liked this book and I was pleasantly surprised seeing how this was my first arc from NetGalley and I wasn’t sure what to expect!

This book was filled with amazing tension and a slow-burn that had me still waiting 60% in for more and more. Their chemistry was so well written and I was pleasantly surprised by some of the flirting and their sexy banter.

Although Ves was cold and distant at first, I loved reading him and Elisha become close and develop such a cute relationship. The way he opened up to her had be smiling so much and I especially loved how he became this warm, patient, thoughtful character, because she radiated warmth and good energy whenever she went.

Lillie wrote such cute dialogue and although this book was lighthearted, it also dealt with serious topics such as feelings of inadequacy (child/parent relationships), death and more. These were all handled with such care from the author and I really appreciated the time she took to make sure that it was done correctly.

Some of my favorite quotes:

* “Meet-cutes are everywhere you look. Save a local business, protect a landmark, fall in love with a wholesome small-town girl. Maybe she’s the hot lumberjane daughter of a tree farmer! Kiss under a blanket fort! Break your rule about holiday romance! Do everything different. The opportunities are endless.”

* “Could I bring him breakfast?” she asks. “And maybe, like, a welcome-slash-apology-slash-please-don’t-hate-me package?”

* “You can tell me that your favorite color is pink and your favorite food is Italian and your favorite hobbit is Samwise, and I promise you that I will be fucking fascinated because it’s you.”

Overall, I highly recommend this book, even in the middle of the summer. It definitely made me excited for the holidays and I look forward to Lillie’s future projects!

Thank you to the publisher and netgalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review. Wrapped With A Beau is a small town Christmas romantic comedy. Vesline is a bit of a grump who inherits the Christmas house in the small town of Piney Peaks from his great-aunt. Elisha is a film liaison who moves back to her hometown to prepare for The Sleighbells sequel. He doesn’t do relationships during the holidays but she needed a fake boyfriend to prove to her ex-fiancé that she truly moved on. Their fake dating turned into a no strings attached relationship until he moves back to New York. Throughout the holiday festivities, Ves not only learns stories about his great aunt but he falls in love with Elisha.

I truly enjoyed this story. I found it to be festive, witty and a heartwarming story of second chance at love and finding the true meaning of home. I highly recommend.

Wow, let me tell you about "Wrapped Up with a Beau" by Lillie Vale—it's a total gem! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

First off, the chemistry between Elisha and Ves is off the charts! They've got this banter that'll have you grinning like a fool while you're reading. Elisha's the kind of character you just wanna be best friends with—funny, relatable, and with a heart of gold. And Ves? Swoon alert! He's charming and mysterious, the perfect romantic interest.

The setting is also amazing. Picture this: Piney Peaks in a cozy little rural town. It's like stepping into a Hallmark movie, but with way more depth and sass. I loved how the author weaved in all these quirky side characters that made the story feel alive.

What really got me hooked was the way the author tackled themes of friendship and finding yourself. It's not just about the romance (though that's pretty adorable), but also about personal growth and figuring out what truly matters.

If you're looking for a feel-good, swoon-worthy read with characters you'll want to hug, "Wrapped Up with a Beau" is your book. Trust me, you won't be able to put it down!

Wrapped with a Beau was a festive Christmas book. While the storyline was predictable, I thought it was a light read great for this busy time of year.
Piney Peaks, home of the Sleighbells under Starlight, a beloved holiday movie and the festive holiday house it was filmed at. The home's owner has passed away and neighbor Elisha has been the self-appointed home carer.
Early one morning when she sees what she thinks is a break in at the house she knows she needs to investigate. Dressed in her pajamas and wielding a huge plastic candy cane she is ready to take care of that burglar.
A meet cute, it turns out that the owner's great nephew is in town to quickly fix up the holiday house and sell it after the festive season. In this grumpy to sunshine story, Ves Hollins, city boy from New York may find Elisha Rowe attractive but he's here to sell his great aunt's home and can't wait to leave. He has no plans on helping Elisha with the Christmas movie sequel and certainly no interest in staying any longer than possible.
It was heartwarming seeing how Elisha's family took to Ves, welcoming him and even joking around like he was one of the family.
With personalities so different can she sway him to her way of thinking, that life can be shiny and bright in this small town? Wonderful, light holiday read.

A cute enemies-to-lovers holiday romcom! 🧣

Ves not only has to travel to Piney Peaks and sort out the house and possessions he inherited from his great aunt after she passes, but when he arrives, his aunt’s (hot) neighbor who thinks he’s a burglar attacks him with a candy cane garden stake.

Elisha is horrified not only to realize that she made a mistake thinking that the new (and hot) owner of the Christmas House is a burglar but that she’ll also need his signature to secure the house as the primary filming location for the sequel to Sleighbells which will help put her small town back on the map.

Wrapped with a Beau was so entertaining that I flew by the first 100 pages! I loved the banter and smart exchanges between Elisha and Ves — she was such an unexpectedly random character that made it tough not to melt Ves’ icy exterior. I also really liked how the author handled the instant attraction but the slow process of actually falling for one another.

Oh and it’s a bit steamy!

Truth is I didn’t care as much once they actually started dating and the end was a bit Hallmarky BUT I did still enjoy it! Certainly recommend and note to self to read more by this author!

An easy ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ read! Such a cute Christmas story! 🎄

Elisha is a 28-year-old film liasion trying to put her hometown Piney Peaks on the map again by doing a sequel of a very famous Christmas movie from the seventies. Ves is a fanstasy novel writer and a Grumpy Grinch with capital G. After his great-aunt's death Ves is the one to inherit her Christmas house in Piney Peaks. He's a New York City boy so his only intention is to clear the house up and sell it. But when he meets Elisha things start to change. They are total opposites but it's safe to say that opposites attract, right? 🙈

SUCH a cute Christmas story, so funny, little spicy🌶️ and very homey! I fell in love with Piney Peaks, Elisha and Ves are just adorable and this book made me want to put up my Christmas tree like asap! 🎄🎁🎊

I loved the main characters, Elisha and Ves. Elisha was strong, independent, and funny.

Very adorable hallmark-y with some spice wrapped up in this book. But i had a hard time liking the main characters. They just did nothing for me. No squeal or stupid grin. I adored the side-characters, and the whole small-town, adorable-ness. But the characters, were just meh.. i did not feel goey and fangirl-y reading about them.

But it was a cute story.

Cute merry grumpy/sunshine, fake dating, limited time together romance. I liked it - loved the holiday feel and the characters.
Ves is a great traditional grump with a past of massive rejection from family. Elisha is the cute girl next door, returned to her hometown to help them build a presence.
I loved their banter. And of course Ves' bestie and his husband - loved them so much.
Very enjoyable holiday read.

Cute Christmas romcom! Filled with Hallmark vibes! But spicy.

Elisha has returned home to Piney Peaks, and is now working to help put everything in place for a remake of the hit Christmas movie ‘Sleighbells’ that helped put the quaint town on the map. She has to secure the filming location of the Christmas house from the original movie, which is right across the street from her family’s home. Too bad the new owner, Ves, just inherited it from his great aunt and wants to sell it quickly and return to his life in New York. But Elisha and the wonderful people of Piney Peaks might soften his heart and show him that sometimes it’s worth letting your walls down. And maybe a short Christmas romance can turn into more.

I could give it my usual 4⭐️ for being an enjoyable romcom. It was mostly really fun to read! But it is so 100% Hallmark story that I definitely would’ve preferred less detail on the spicy parts. It’s kind of slow burn, so it’s late in the book when things heat up and it was a completely different tone. Very incongruous. I love good chemistry, but some scenes were cringy to me. I’m not rating it lower simply because it has spicy details, but because of how they are written and the disconnect with the way the rest of the story is written. It made me think I wouldn’t really recommend this to anyone.

There are also so many great aspects to this book! Wonderful, cozy setting in the Christmas obsessed town of Piney Peaks; great supportive side characters of loving family and friends; an interesting back story of an old house as a past and present location for a Hollywood movie; and fun banter and a growing relationship between the main characters. There’s some depth in dealing with past hurts and family dysfunction. But it’s mostly light, fun, sweet and heartwarming.

While I did enjoy most of this book, it didn’t fully capture my heart. It wasn’t one that I just couldn’t put down. It’s a good Christmas romcom, but not a new favorite.

Piney Peaks is a picture perfect Christmas town; so much so that the beloved holiday classic, Sleighbells was filmed there. Elisha Rowe grew up loving the movie and has convinced Hollywood that the sequel, 50 years in the making, should also be filmed there. The only hold up is the new owner of the famous setting of the movie, the Christmas House. Ves Hollins has inherited The Christmas House from his great-aunt and he has come to Piney Peaks to sell it. After a disastrous first meeting, Elisha has decided to do whatever it takes to convince Ves that he should hold off on selling until they can film the movie there. Unfortunately, he is being a total grinch about the whole ordeal; with Elisha's job and reputation on the line can she convince the stony faced hunk to giver her a Christmas miracle? Fantastically narrated by Keylor Leigh and Sean Patrick Hopkins; the dual narrative is festive, cute, and sultry. This holiday romcom is a little on the steamy side; and full of Christmas cheer. Readers will cheer on Elisha and Ves, while also wishing the movie were a real holiday classic they could watch. Lots of fun.
