Okay once again, the hero was a bit of an ass at first, he has always been hateful to the heroine, judging her without knowing her, and the heroine man she was such a strong woman. She grew up wealthy but lacked emotional wealth with a father who had no love or time for her and when she thought she found love, that turned out to be a six year nightmare she has barely just crawled out of, all on her own. When the heroine wants time to process and heal she finds the place she intended to stay at the summer occupied by the hero, the cousin of her friend's. The hero is on a sabbatical from the FBI and is there to do some processing of his own. These two make a bargain to stay out of each others way and for a time that stands. But gradually the hero starts getting to know the heroine and falls for her like a ton of bricks. But the heroine having just gotten out of a nightmare marriage and the thumb of a horrible father wants to be all alone and doesn't trust avowals of love. I liked how the author didn't magically make the heroine forget her past just because the hero said the three magic words but instead we see the heroine take her time to heal and stand on her own.

I read this one years ago and loved it so much I kept the book!
On a re-read I still think it’s good! The intimate scene was risqué back in the day when missionary in a bed was the norm!
Enemies to lovers trope!
