Dr. Thane Clayborne was a sexy stick-in-the-mud, Autumn O'Neil decided! Or why would he keep complaining about all the lively activities she planned for the residents of the nursing home he directed? It was true, that she brought endless chaos to his well-organized facility, but she believed that making her grandfather and the other seniors happy was more important than keeping the peace. Thane fought his attraction to this mischievous angel, but she was irresistible, a warm and wise Pollyanna who tempted him to let go, to break the rules and run a little wild. Autumn adored making her gentlemanly suitor lose control, but she feared the man ' who'd sacrificed a dream for another's happiness could, never care for a woman who'd run scared when it counted most. Could Thane's compassion soothe the secret pain that haunted her nights, and would Autumn have the courage to heal her hero's scars?
Meet Autumn, an ex cop, who now runs a pawn shop and spends all her time in the old age home Maple Leaf, entertaining the residents as well as her grandpa Paddy. The one person not impressed by her antics is Dr. Thane Clayborne- the doctor in charge of the home! He wants his nursing home to be #1, and believes Autumn's fun antics hinder his goals. When their interests collide, passion ignites. Soon they embark on an affair, and their love story is filled with kissing bandits, boisterous families, life changing decisions in the past and some naughty geriatric residents. I think one of my favorite scenes is the hero wearing a vampire costume and trying to scare a hero who has police training LOL (I snorted at "I vana drink your blood). That being said, the book focuses on different ideologies clashing- the hero's are being prim, proper and sticking to rules, the heroine's are to have fun and live a little. Both of them, however, just want to make the remaining lives of the old residents comfortable and happy. The characters are sweet and likable, and sort of eccentric- I mean a redhead heroine who ADORES carrots, and a hero who is not afraid to apologize- cash me in!
