Fast-paced, heartwarming and inspired by a real Labrador Retriever, “Between the Mountains” is a suspenseful tale about a group of people connected through a stray dog. Roscoe was a nomad, roaming alone across a small town until he met J.D., the leader of a community center whose never-ending loyalty rivals that of the old lab. When a figure from the past targets Roscoe, shock and outrage ripple through the mountain town. J.D. and his friends band together as the threat becomes clear: protect the dog, protect the entire community.
Arley, a college student struggling to reveal her true self after returning home, witnesses a disturbing incident that leads her to Emma, an entrepreneur with a knack for speaking her mind. As whirlwind events unfold around them, the two new friends must choose to confront their own personal histories or jeopardize their future relationships, their livelihood and love.
“Between the Mountains” is an emotionally charged page turner that examines the importance of community, the limits of forgiveness and the power of hope.
"Keeps readers hanging on every word... a compelling read for those who adore dogs, but it also delves into the themes of second chances, healing, love, and loss.” - Independent Book Review
A true dog story in his small, Southern hometown inspired Jeremy Campbell to write his debut novel, Between the Causeways. His books focus on fictional worlds inspired by actual events and the best of humanity. As an award-winning television journalist based in New York City, Campbell’s storytelling career has taken him from the coast of California to the source of the Nile River.. Years of covering news events has also contributed to a recurring theme in his writing: sometimes the worst things to ever happen lead to the best.
If you went to Northest Alabama Community College during the legacy of Roscoe, the stray that became the official campus dog, you need to read this book. If you're from Northeast Alabama and love when local things are recognized, you need to read this book. It is a quick fictional read chalk-full references people 'around here' will get.Oh. And I SOBBED during one part, but I'm not going to spoil it for you.
An old black Lab, A nomadic stray, brings a diverse community together. JD, A local hero runs the North Star Community Center. The campus has grown, free Wi-Fi computer room, base ball and softball fields. A cafeteria with vending machines. Tied together with a dynamic cast of 'people and animals'.
A 19 year old college woman an Summer break, with a secret. A mother unable to reach past what she knows to connect with her child.
A Latino Day Festival is going well. DJ has brought out Trooper, A living Mustang. On the stage, he pulls a cord, and a horrible thing happens. Troopers reins slips free and he r,ears. Roscoe the old Lab, saves the day - and the festival.
This is feel good story. Appropriate for all ages 18 and older. I do not recall any strong language. The young college woman is wearing her PRIDE pen and wears it quiet.
Thank you for making me ugly cry and sling snot all around my bedroom!
I LOVE “BETWEEN THE MOUNTAINS!” Just finished it. Couldn’t put it down. I have laughed and cried and snotted off and on for hours reading this. You are a very talented writer, Jeremy. You had me hooked on page one with, “Time moves differently for a dog.” You captured the love and special bond between Roscoe and JD perfectly! You have such a way with words you had my heart soaring and breaking and mended all within minutes. Thank you for sharing your talents with all of us!
I’m going to read it again. I know I’ll find more and more with each reading. . It amazes me at how well you know and understand your characters and make us love them!
This is a book about community coming together as chosen family all surrounding a dog named Roscoe. It was a wonderful book with all the feels. I laughed and cried and generally just enjoyed it. It is a great book and I highly suggest reading it!
I received an advanced review copy for free, and am leaving this review voluntarily.
The motto for this book should be, good things are achieved by people working in concert as a coomunity. This is the second installment of a trilogy. Each centers around the involvement of a small Southern community in a successful dog rescue. In our current time, it is worthwhile to remind us of the value of all of our people. I am looking forward to book three.
I saw this book at Unclaimed Baggage Center in Scottsboro Al. and recognized the Author’s name. As a fellow band mate in high school I couldn’t resist purchasing it. This was such a sweet read. It pulled at all of my heart strings. It literally brought me to tears one night and I had to put the book away until the next day. Awesome job Jeremy!!!
This was another cute story about an abandoned dog! Luckily he was found by dog lovers. There was one person who was evil and tried to hurt this lovable animal but true love and humanity came through. Read how Rosco brought together people, a town and turned around an evil one . Very good story!
I thoroughly enjoyed reading Jeremy's newest book. It's a celebration of the strength we find in each other during tough times, and a testament to the joy animals bring into our lives. A definite must-read for any dog lover!
Campbell has done it again! With his second book, Campbell has become an even better storyteller. He's carving out a niche for himself writing heart-warming stories based on true dogs' tales. If you liked the first book, you'll love this new one.
I read constantly and I really enjoy most of the books that I read, but this is one book that I won’t forget. So well written, so touching and just so good! The best thing I’ve read in a long time.
Jeremy Campbell has grabbed my heart with his words of wisdom & love… Thank you for writing & keep on typing those words. My eyes are wet with wetness & my heart is light with live.
I loved this book. It was so heart warm..the feeling of community pulled me in to be a part of it. The lessons of love gently told I am inspired to live a life too where everyone matters. Thank you
I absolutely loved this story! I tend to like animal novels and this one did not disappoint. Enjoy this author and will read more of his stories. Thank you to Reese Witherspoon for the recommendation.
What a beautiful story of a wonderful and spunky black Labrador named Roscoe and the people who loved him! I have have absolutely enjoyed these two books immensely! Thank you Jeremy Campbell!
I am the author of this book, and I hope you love it. In the story, I tried to capture the importance of community, the limits of forgiveness, and the power of hope. Rather than review my own book, I am sharing some blurbs from others:
“Jeremy Campbell’s novel resides solidly within a tradition of Southern storytelling that, in engaging, lucid prose, shows us an old world through new eyes. The reader bonds with the human characters, of course, but especially with Roscoe, the black lab, and, as in every good story, just wants to see what happens next. True, I think every book is better if there’s a dog in it. “Between the Mountains” has that and so much more. A beautifully fresh folktale. - Daniel Wallace, author of “Big Fish”
"Keeps readers hanging on every word... a compelling read for those who adore dogs, but it also delves into the themes of second chances, healing, love, and loss.” - Independent Book Review “⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️,The kind of book that rouses a sense of hope...and is bound to leave readers with smiles on their faces." - Readers Favorite
A truly good read for the soul. The story captives all the feelings of friends and family, community together ess, intrigue, hope and courage, overwhelming warmth of love and freedom of being one's self. It embraces all the good qualities of people despite how events or people in life can try to bring them down. It's jam packed with love a d laughter, and it's an incredible story of a dog with such an incredible soul. A dog that actually lived and existed. It is almost impossible to separate the fictional world of Roscoe from the real world he roamed.
