Across a thousand battlefields and a million wars, there is always a question. What do you do when all the chips are on the table? Do you run? Try to find salvation in the arms of an easy peace? Or do you stand and fight? Send your enemies into whatever hole they crawled out of? On Deadly Ground has ten stories handling that exact question. Each character faces the impossible in different ways, but all will be tested before the day is done. Can they earn a heroic victory amongst the endless eternity of space, or are they doomed to fall into obscurity? A Mother's Love by J. R. J. R. Handley is a pseudonym for a husband and wife writing team. He is a veteran infantry sergeant with the 101st Airborne Division and the 28th Infantry Division. She is the kind of crazy that interprets his insanity into cogent English. He writes the sci-fi while she proofreads it. The sergeant is a two-time combat veteran of the late unpleasantness in Mesopotamia where he was wounded. He started writing military science fiction as part of a therapy program suggested by his doctor to help with his brain injury. He found out he was actually pretty good at telling stories and hopes to entertain you as he attempts to excise his demons through these creative endeavors. In addition to being just another dysfunctional veteran, he is a stay at home husband, avid reader and all around nerd. Luckily for him, his Queen joins him in his fandom nerdalitry. His website/blog is at www.jrhandley.com.
I suspect I am not the target audience for this book. It was well written and “A Mother’s Love” left me in tears. However I found the theme deeply depressing rather then uplifting. I think I will stick with the HEAs from now on.
