Bell Buckle #1

Spur of the Moment

Rate this book
Coming home was supposed to be temporary, but this time, he isn't letting her go.
Lettie Bronson thought that running from her problems was the only way to find happiness and avoid risking losing the one person who meant the most to her. But running didn’t solve a single thing, and when she returns to her family’s ranch in Bell Buckle, she has no intent on staying. She’s only there long enough to figure out where to land next. But one road trip later, she’s convinced she doesn’t know what she wants. Bailey Cooper has always given more of himself to the two ranches he works on than his personal life, but one thing he knows for sure: Lettie is the girl he’s going to marry. When she leaves without a goodbye the day after her eighteenth birthday, he’s convinced he’ll never see her again. That is, until she’s falling off a ladder and into his arms. Even after five years, he’s still lost in those baby blues of hers, and falls impossibly harder after a few days alone with her. But coming back to Bell Buckle doesn’t mean she’s here to stay. She left once already, what was stopping her this time?

this didn’t work for me 🥲

I’m a character girlie through and through and I didn’t connect with any in this book. I didn’t feel like the reason (brother’s best friend??) they couldn’t be together believable, which was further solidified when the third act happened. Literally no one cared and knew they’d end up together. There really wasn’t any tension between the two main characters and I found myself skimming the last 15% or so bc I just wanted to move on.

Bailey cooper is my type of cowboy y’all. That man is the sweetest and most caring man towards Lettie it was adorable. Bailey is such a sweet talker and has that perfect cowboy charm to him.
I love the name Lettie so much and honestly this character was such a fun one. She definitely had her insecurities which kinda bothered me especially with her reasoning for leaving. But I did relate to her on being diagnosed with an illness and not wanting your family to worry so much that you start to feel trapped. It can get very lonely.
I am sooooo intrigued by brandy and reed and realllyyyyy hope I get their story soon because my goodness the chemistry between them is wild.

I liked this book and definitely think people should give it a go

First I would like to that Karley for an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.

Unfortunately, I DNF'd this book at 74% (Chapter 38, 1.5 hours left in book). There were moments that I enjoyed but many that did not work for me personally.

Firstly, I want to talk about the things I enjoyed. Bailey's nickname for Lettie was very cute and the story behind it is something I think many readers will enjoy. I enjoyed the horse rescue plot but will touch more on it later. I liked Bailey's small gestures throughout the book. I would say my favourite part of the book was when they went with horses to play in the water - that scene played like a movie in my head. I liked the large cast. I could see the set up for future books with the family.

Bottom of the Buckle Horse Rescue is Letties family business. I love any evolvement of horses and enjoyed this plot while it was present. Unfortunately, the rescue really got placed on the back burner and these horses were dropped off page. I do not know if they were to resurface in the last chunk of the book but from what I saw, the rehab/training of the horses were not on page.

This book had a fast start which made it hard for me to follow Letties emotions and decisions that led up to where she was in her life. She was immature and stomped off a lot. I was especially confused with Lettie and Bailey's relationship as children and growing up. It felt like they were either besties or strangers/her brothers friend - it was hard to follow. I felt that throughout the book she wasn't super self-aware and I struggled to understand many of her choices both presently and as a child/young women.

The romance in this book was definitely the primary focus. From friends and family conversations, side comments and actions, all were mainly focused on Bailey and Lettie - specifically how gone Bailey was for her. Bailey definitely falls first and is really taken with Lettie. I love when a man falls first in books. But I struggled with their intimate scenes in this book. I felt that there was not enough communication/consent in these scenes. Lettie was really in her head and I wish they communicated. Because these characters are childhood friends, the aspect of consent wasn't at the forefront perhaps? I will say this is a personal preference. I also didn't like the forceful nature/possessive nature from Bailey without explicit consent. Especially because these characters jump into it quickly. Scenes were fast, short and where was the foreplay?

The writing in this book either transported me or felt harsh in transitions. It flowed well at some points and give me slight whiplash at others. Lastly, because there is not third act breakup another situation was tossed in without much set up which through me off.

This book didn't work for me but it may work for you

Tropes
- country/small town romance
- brothers best friend
- friends to lovers
- second chance romance
- not third act breakup

I really enjoyed reading this & the storyline had me hooked. Karley just has a certain way of being able to captivate her readers through her characters & storyline.

Bailey freaking Cooper! Who doesn’t love a dirty talking cowboy!! Not to forget that he also uses the “it’s always been you” line🫠 swooning. He was so caring towards Lettie from the start. If he ever said anything that would unintentionally hurt her then he owned up to it straight away which I loved!
Bailey is definitely a sweet talker😮‍💨. We also love a mmc that loves a good hand necklace & calls you a “good girl”.

I really admired Lettie’s character. I love that she moved away to find independence for herself & become her own person without everyone fussing over her. I could completely relate with her on not wanting to give into her feelings because she didn’t want to potentially ruin what her & Bailey have as friends. I think that’s something a lot of people can relate to at some point in their life. She seemed like such a down to earth character & complete sweetheart.

The fmc is also an illness rep (anaemic). I think this is something that a lot of people can relate to in some way or another. I love that there was an illness being represented as you don’t always get that.

Karley just has a way of writing characters where you are instantly drawn to them. Away from Bailey & Lettie there was Brandy, Lettie’s brothers & their parents. The family aspect of this book was *chefs kiss*. I loved the banter between the characters. It was so nice to see Lettie’s brothers be protective of her but also give her the space she needs to be independent.

The setting of this book had me obsessed!! Small town setting is always one of my absolute faves.

I really loved watching Lettie & Bailey fall for each other although I would’ve liked a bit more tension but I still really loved them!!

Overall, I urge you to give this book a go!! I loved it so much & it’s perfect for those girlies that love a dirty talking cowboy in a small town👏🏽.

Tropes:
- small town
- brothers best friend
- he falls first
- one bed
- no third act breakup

This was cuuute. Slightly spicy, no miscom or 3/4 breakup. Really good for an "in between" book, let´s call it that. Smalltown/cowboy vibes could have been a liiiiiiittle bit stronger in my opinion.

Spur Of The Moment by Karley Brenna
3/5⭐
2,5/5🌶️

This was my first book by Karley Brenna, and it was a pretty decent read! I wouldn't say I loved it, but I didn't dislike it either. The plot and characters are quite straightforward, and it has a different vibe with no big drama or third-act breakup, which makes it feel light. I wanted more depth to connect with the story, as I felt a bit bored in the middle. Interestingly, I enjoyed the side characters more than the main couple!

The story kicks off when Lettie returns to her hometown after spending five years away at college. Years ago, she ran away at 18, worried about her feelings for Bailey, her brother's best friend, and how it might affect their friendship. What’s sweet is that Bailey has had feelings for Lettie for a long time and has always known she’s meant to be in his life. So when Lettie suddenly leaves without saying goodbye, he’s pretty heartbroken. While she’s away, Bailey and her brothers are helping her parents with their ranch.

I liked Bailey! From the beginning, he knows that Lettie is meant for him, and when she comes back, he’s determined to show her that her place is in Bell Buckle with him. It’s so sweet how caring he is towards her, and I love how honest he is about his feelings—no mixed signals between them!

I appreciated Lettie's independence, and I can relate to her illness since I have the same one. It can be frustrating when loved ones worry too much, and I completely understand why she feels the need to leave. That said, it did bother me a bit when she kept pushing her feelings for Bailey aside because she was afraid of what might happen. It seemed clear that her family could see how much he adored her and that they’d be supportive if they decided to be together romantically.

All in all, I think this book is a great pick if you're looking for a quick, easy read that’s got spice but not too much drama!

I really, really wanted to love this.

I mean, it has cowboys.

However (and please do not read this if you loved this book or if you're the author)....

It fell sooooo flat for me. I gave it 3 stars just because I could see the potential and the vision, but it felt like chapters were missing. The romance was so hot and cold. I get it's a second chance romance, but they literally go from being awkward to him going downtown, no conversation about consent or boundaries or even a kiss before this moment?? It just came out of nowhere. The best part of the book is the male main character. I also felt like it just ends and nothing really ...happens?

Ok this was actually pretty cute. I’m fully in my cowboy / rancher era and I am here for Bailey Cooper! Talk about man got it baddddddd for his girl, Lettie! Low angst which is sometimes just what you need (I did). Bailey was so gone for Lettie and he showed this in so many beautiful ways!

PS - if Reed and Brandy aren’t the next book in some

✨️𐚁ARC BOOK REVIEW𐚁✨️

That was such an amazing read. First up, thank you so much for giving me an ARC copy of your book Spur Of The Moment, Karley. I loved it so much, don't even get me started on this gorgeous cover, absolutely stunning, I could just stare at it for hours.

The characters were amazing and so funny. I loved Lettie from the second we met her, she is so fiercely independent and I love that about her. Letting returns home from college 5 years after she left and didn't tell practically anyone that she was leaving. The one person who was probably the most damaged by that is Bailey Cooper. Her brothers best friend who was always pulling pranks on her. And something changed between them before she left.

I can say for certain Bailey was butt hurt when Lettie left and had was abit withheld when she finally returned. But that did not last long as soon enough he was like a little puppy on her heel once more, practically begging her to give him a shot for once.

Then, thanks to her father, Lettie and Bailey end up on a road trip together to get some horses for the ranch. And things spice up between them over the course of the days, and especially on their last night there when they are left with only one bed to share.

Seeing the development in their relationship was absolutely beautiful and heartwarming, and when it finally got real between them, I could not stop smiling. They are literally made for one another, and I could not love them and their story more.

This book was written so beautifully and was paced very well. Seeing all of the side characters just makes me want their books more and to see how they will end up. I definitely love Cowboys, and this book just helped solidify it!

this book is the perfect combination of small-town with a dirty talking cowboy and so many swoony moments. if you love family moments, romance, and my personal favorite brothers best friend, then this book is for you.

one of the things i love the most is the character development individually but also as a couple. bailey falls first and hard (he has been an obsessed since the beginning and you could tell 🤭) and lettie has been there right with him but also scared of crossing that line. i love how reassuring he was of his feelings and kept on vocalizing since the beginning how much he liked her.

it takes a good while to get into it and connect with them but honestly, I have read a similar book like this and it was not for me at all because the miscommunication was like 90% of the book, however this one I liked how he accepted the fact that she moved away for five years and yes it hurt him but he didn’t hold it against here for most of the book

those two are just so cute and the family just makes it so much fun. all i am saying is that i am intrigued when it comes to reed and brandy (*cough cough* enemies to lovers brewing)

thank you to karley for letting me arc read this in exchange for an honest review

Thank you Karley for an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.🫶🏼
First off, congrats on your debut novel!
What a cute, cowboy, small town romance - so many favorite tropes and with perfect little micro tropes sprinkled in!

Blurb: Lettie Bronson is returning home after 5 years away at college. Lettie left her small town for many reasons. Feeling overwhelmed and suffocated by her family and their constant concerns for her health, she knew she needed an escape. Leaving town sounded like the right idea, but as Lettie returns to her hometown, she begins to realize all that she has missed out on in the past five years. Home is where her brothers are, the ranch, the rescue horses, but also where her favorite memories lie- and most of those memories are shared with Bailey Cooper, her brother’s best friend.
Bailey has been patiently waiting for Lettie’s return. Knowing she left without saying goodbye and not even hearing from her in half a decade nearly broke his heart. But when she returns home, he’s determined to let Lettie know he’s never losing her again, no matter what it takes.

I would have really liked to see more character development of Lettie and Bailey before they started exploring their physical relationship. There seemed to be a disconnect for me personally. I also found it a little bit odd for them to explore their sexual relationship before doing simple things like holding hands and kissing. It felt a bit jumbled for me. Perhaps it was because they’ve known each other since they were kids that it was supposed to be an “instant chemistry” sort of deal, but I’d have liked a little more tension/build up before they fall into bed (or lack thereof) with one another.

Favorite tropes/microtropes:
- It’s always been you💞
- Backwards baseball hat🧢
- Small town🏘️
- Cowboy romance 🤠
- Childhood friends to lovers 🫶🏼
- Dual POV ✌🏼

Karley Brenna and her debut novel, Wasted Memories, appeared on my page thanks to the amazing algorithm. After loving and thoroughly enjoying that one, it was a no-brainer that I was going to pick up every single book she writes afterwards! Needless to say, this book did not disappoint!

Bailey and Lettie had a swoon worthy friendship until Lettie decided to leave her small town and run away from overbearing family members and real feelings for her best friend. Five years and a heartbreak later, Lettie returns to find that her town, family and friendships have all remained the same. Easily acclimating back into her routines, the only thing difficult for her is dealing with her feelings for her best friend while maintaining their professional relationship. Add to the whole slew, dealing with a deficiency while around her overbearing family.
Having loved her and lost her once, is Bailey willing to put his heart back on the line again?

Karley weaves a story of love, loss, suffocation, trust and some good ole cowboy in this absolute perfect work. It’s also first in a series so grab it now before the next one comes out!

Lettie and Bailey had such a great love story!

I received an ARC of this from the author for an honest review!
Lettie is back on her family’s ranch after leaving 5 years ago. She’s always had feelings for her Brothers’ best friend Bailey. She just didn’t know that he felt the same for her!

I loved Bailey’s determination to win over Bailey even though he was hurt that she left for college without telling him.

If you’re looking for a spicy cowboy romance with a little road trip/one bed trope then this is for you!

This was a "spur of the moment" purchase for me, pun intended. It definitely reads like the first in a series. I'd say this would be a great introduction novel for someone trying to get into small town/cowboy novels. It's super light on conflict, tension, and has very short chapters. I don't want to be too harsh in my review because I truly didn't hate anything about this, I've just read more seasoned versions of this I'll say. Out of all the others set up, I am most interested in Reed's, which will be the latest release next year it seems.

I had the pleasure of ARC reading Spur of the Moment, and what a fun read! I’m a big fan of cowboy romances, and this adds in small town, brother’s best friend, and he falls first. I liked the whole cast of side characters, including Lettie’s 4 older brothers and her best friend. I see definite potential for future Bell Buckle romances with all the different brothers!

There were a few small issues I had with pacing, but overall I really enjoyed the book. The ending left my feeling all warm and gooey inside, a definite HEA!

You’ll enjoy Spur of the Moment if you like cowboy/ranch romances, road trip/one bed, chronic illness rep, and delicious spice!

GUYS THIS IS SO GOOD!! My first read by Karley and definitely won’t be my last. Can’t wait for the rest of this series😍

Lettie Bronson had been crushing on her brothers best friend her whole life. But he was 4 years older so nothing ever happened. Until her 18th birthday and things changed, so she runs and leaves Bell Buckle for college without looking back.

Five years later, she returns to Bell Buckle and isn’t prepared to face Bailey Cooper. But when she sees him, those sparks are still there. Does Bailey feel the same or does he resent her for leaving?

This was such a sweet book. Bailey and Lettie have a lot to catch up on and seeing if they can be anything or if those feelings are still there for both was so fun to see. Bailey is the perfect cowboy, sweet but he has a mouth on him🥵

Y’all definitely need to read this if you like:

I was graciously able to read an ARC copy of this book, and it was absolutely adorable!

Bailey + Lettie’s relationship journey was… a long one. But worth it!

With both of these childhood friends avoiding their feelings for each other and Lettie going to college for 5 years without a word, Bailey knew it was now or never when she came back into town.

The character development of both of these were really cute, and with all the childhood flashbacks I loved how the author set the scene for how they developed feelings for each other throughout their lives.

They’ve both secretly always known they were end-game, but would they ruin their friendship and familial relationships to pursue each other?

I also loved how the author created openings for other characters to have their own books.. series?👀 and good ratio of plot to spice!

This small-town romance is perfect for those who love sexy cowboys, friends to lovers, second chance (ish), boy obsessed, and HEA!

RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨
SPICE: 🔥🔥🔥

Pack my bags and send me to Bell Buckle! I adored this cowboy romance so dang much and now want to be part of the Bronson clan! I’m firmly in my cowboy era and Karley delivered a wonderful book that had me rooting for Bailey and Lettie, swooning at the always been you vibes, and feeling like these characters were my friends.

Bailey and Lettie have known each other their whole lives (he calls her Huckleberry from their childhood 🫠) and it’s not a secret that Bailey has always had a bit of a thing for his best friend’s little sister. Lettie ran from Bell Buckle the moment she turned 18, but now five years later she is back, and her attraction to Bailey is as strong as ever.

Omg these two made me swoon. They only have eyes for each other but are so hesitant to step forward because of how close they have always been. This is friends to lovers done ABSOLUTELY right. I love how Bailey is just a walking green flag with a red hot mouth, and something about a rugged cowboy just hits different!

Also loved the whole world things set in, the horse rescue, the family, these characters felt like people I knew, they were so relatable and likable. I cannot wait for more and need Reed and Brandy’s story because they were rocking the enemies to lovers vibes SO HARD!

Read this if you love friends to lovers, cowboy vibes, brother’s best friend and all the pining and dirty talk.

Thanks Karley for the ARC, you have a definite fan in me and I will happily read whatever you have in store next for Bell Buckle!

WOW. this cowboy romance has my heart.

Lettie Bronson left town years ago for school, she left behind her family, horse rescue ranch, and most importantly, Bailey Cooper. The man who was always there for her when she needed him.
She comes back to the ranch to find her dog, horse, and the rest of the ranch being taken care of by Bailey and her brothers.
the attraction they have for one another is still undeniable and one thing about Bailey is he is not going to let her run again.
I loved every bit of this story. Normally I am not a huge fan of second chance romance but I literally ate this one up. Bailey is honestly goals and everyone needs a man like him.
This book releases on January 4th,2024 and yall need to add this one to your list.

Please raiser your hand if you feel personally victimized by Karley Brenna and her AMAZING writing 🙋‍♀️🙋‍♀️

Okay, all jokes aside bc I sent that to Karley😂 this book was absolutely amazing and something that I never knew that I needed. I resonated so much with Lettie and feeling overwhelmed when you have people worried about your disability. Man, Karley didn’t sugarcoat the struggles of hidden disabilities in this book!

Now onto the man of the hour, Bailey MF Cooper. If he could do to me what he did to Lettie in the stalls, I’d be one happy woman. 😂 Bailey wears his heart on his sleeve and is not afraid to show it and I love that so much about him. His nickname for Lettie, his silent gestures, and all the little things made me fall in love with him too!

🤠 ARC Review ✨

I’m slowly entering my cowboy romance era and when it’s mixed with Brother’s Best Friend & “It’s Always Been You” vibes – I’m immediately sold. This was such an adorable story that I want to visit Bell Buckle and find myself a Cowboy. I’ll take any one of Lettie’s brothers. Karley – you absolutely blew me away – Brother’s Best Friend, Cowboy’s & One Bed? Perfection!

Bailey Cooper is the absolute gentleman. He sneakily added himself to my book boyfriend list and tbh I don’t want him to leave. I just love him so much – the way he waited for Lettie to come home, even though he didn’t know why she left in the first place or if she was ever coming back. Even though he was hurting, he never stopped loving Lettie or believing that she would come back to him. So he kept himself busy and took care of her horse Red & her dog Rouge – so he would still have a piece of her with him.

I adored Lettie Bronson so much. She was just trying to figure out what her purpose in life was. To do that she needed to break free from the suffocating way her family treated her due to her anemic. The only person who hasn’t made her feel this way? Bailey. She is too afraid to change their friendship into something more – even though both of them want more. She always felt like her true self when she was at Bell Buckle – her home.

I also appreciated the family atmosphere in this book and Lettie's friend Brandy. Lettie's family treats both Bailey and Lettie's best friend as their own. I loved how all the family members supported each other.

Honestly, this book has some of my favorite tropes and I just want to keep reading cowboy romance books like this one or by my other favorite authors who write these types of books such as Ava Hunter or Lainey Lawson.

I can't wait to read more books in this series – Bailey & Lettie stole my heart right from the beginning. Thank you Karley Brenna for the ARC!
