About the author

Edward McKendree Bounds was a Methodist minister, revivalist, author and lawyer.

Unsuccessful in the California gold rush of 1849, E.M. Bounds returned home to Missouri and became the state’s youngest practicing attorney at age 19. In his early twenties he was deeply impacted by the Third Great Awakening, and at age 24 he was ordained for ministry. During his lifetime he pastored churches, traveled as an evangelist, served as a Civil War chaplain, edited a Christian periodical and was a devoted husband and father. But E.M. Bounds is best known for prayer. His daily habit was to spend the time between 4 am and 7 am praying. His writings on prayer are widely acclaimed to be among the finest of any author before or since.

Undoubtedly, the power of God changes our lives on a daily basis. Many people find in prayer the peace that they cannot find anywhere else.
This book, which is a special edition, brings together two of Bound’s texts “Power through Prayer” and “Purpose in Prayer”. Let me say that it’s amazing to find these two masterpieces in one book.
The author has a sublime talent for explaining and at the same time capturing the reader’s attention, which is doubly praiseworthy in a religious narrative that does not always reach a varied audience.
Another point that I found more than positive about this title is that it makes things easier for the reader in several aspects, for example with its dedicated margin notes.

In "Praying with Power and Purpose”, I found a Christian book that goes deep in the implication and importance of prayer in people’s lives. The author, E.M. Bounds gently develop the different aspects of prayer. Thanks to this development, I was led into a journey of discovery hooked on the power prayer and its significance. I like the fact that the author presents practical insights and timeless principles to enrich spiritual life. A plus, for me are the distressing anecdotes and profound reflections that serve as a holder for Bounds statements. The writing aspect gives the perfect frame to the topic. Keeping the language simple and complete at the same time, I see this piece of literary work as a must read.

I always got the gist of his ideas.

I have to say that I was positively surprised by this book. Before reading this I had never prayed a day in my life. I didn’t grow up religious nor did my parents teach me any prayers. But for some reason I got interested in this topic. So I bought this book. I’m glad to say that I have managed to integrate praying into my daily life. The author managed to give me a really positive perspective on praying. It is so multifaceted I love it. It doesn’t have to mean the same to everyone. I love the way praying was approached in this book. It made me feel motivated and empowered. It was easy to follow the author and I always got the gist of his ideas.

This book is the answer for anyone searching for bigger questions. Despite what type of religion you are putting your faith into, we all have our ways of praying, it can be a very powerful moment, to be connected with yourself and to create a connection with your spiritual world. In this book, the main topic is the importance of praying, what the benefits are, and how to make it a habit in your daily routine. I enjoyed reading this book; it can provide a new spark into someone's faith so it's quite interesting to read. It has a naive perspective at times but it can definitely inspire! Solid reading.

Bounds exposes us to a different view of praying here. He allows us to see that praying can mean different things to different people and how it can enhance positive energy in our lives, with the ultimate goal of making our lives way better.
Praying with Power and Purpose, as its title suggests, shows us how to get to that intersection where praying and purpose join, how to dwell in a place of ambiguities with the certainty of our souls, and how to use these ambiguities to thrive daily.
This book is a work of spiritual reckoning through well-crafted and simple English language. Author Bounds is inviting us to start living a better life after reading his book. Recommended!

Book about prayer

This is a book that is about prayer, not a book of prayers. It's interesting in that it takes a step back from the actual prayer and makes an analysis and discussion of the types and actual act of prayer. I'd recommend this book to someone who is already well-versed in the world of prayers and the Christian religion, because to me, as someone who is unfamiliar with this, a lot of the discussion went over my head. I'd also suggest buying the hard copy of the book. I read the Kindle version, and the notes along the side of the text made the text itself a narrow column with large gaps where there were notes that was difficult for me to read.

I was intrigued to know more about the impact that praying has on a lot of people, especially how much it had helped family before. So, when I came across this book, apart from the captivating cover, I was interested in knowing more, and it was a refreshing read about the spiritual growth and personal transformation people go through when praying. I like how the author does not label this act as merely a ritual but also as finding a deeper connection.
To sum up, I think it is a great gift for believers having a hard time to find that connection with themselves and with God.

This was a good book. The author really took the time to explain what prayer can really mean for an individual. I did really like the margin notes as it helped me understand many of the quotes and information better. It's good book for folks who wish to have a reading circle on religious books since margin space and questions are provided. It's a good book for anyone's spiritual journey and wish to incorporate prayer in it.
