The Baker's Dozen gather for their monthly book club meeting, but what they don't know is one of them will be found lifeless by the end of the evening. Talented baker Ruby Starr turns amateur sleuth to find the culprit before it's too late. Welcome to the whimsical riverfront town of Iris Cove, where the extraordinary is actually the ordinary. Pumpkin Spice Latte has returned to the menu at Bake Someone Happy, where Ruby serves scrumptious baked delights that always turn out perfect, even the coffee orders. She suspects there's more to her aunt Claire's bakery than meets the eye. Could it have anything to do with the pleasant dove that lives on top of the building? And what about the ladybugs that show up when her former boyfriend, Griffin, is around? When Ruby discovers a dead body outside the bakery, she teams up with her feisty feline, Ashton, to find out who did it. Together, they uncover secrets revealing everyone in question had a motive. She knows she must move fast before the murderer strikes again.
The Secret’s in the Scones written by Leslie Lantrip is a remarkable read. A cozy mystery that captured my interest with a map of the whimsical town Iris Cove in which the mystery takes place. Intrigued, I found myself wanting to continue reading and solve what happened with a dead body found outside an extraordinarily perfect bakery as much as the main character, baker, and now amateur sleuth Ruby Starr did. Don’t miss the delicious recipe for scones in the back of the book. You may want to start there first and enjoy one as you turn the pages of this book, I highly recommend it!
I really enjoyed reading “The Secret’s in the Sconces”. I loved reading this book so much I wanted to leave a 5 star review! The story is amazing and fun. I didn’t want the story to end! The whimsical mystery really put me in the mood for the fall/winter. This is the perfect story to read by a fire curled up with a warm cup of hot chocolate and of course a scone! I loved the characters, the town, the bakery… and most of all the mystery. The suspense kept me glued… I could not put the book down. I really hope there will be a sequel.
I do love it when I don't know who the villain is until the end! The author creates a wonderful cast of characters, an idyllic setting, and just the right hint of mystery. I blew through this quickly as I couldn't wait to find out the culprit.
