A mysterious blonde in a supercar, a wine competition gone horribly wrong, and disappearing owls. Winnie Hackleshack’s week of spas, wine, and relaxation takes a back seat as she searches for a killer.
After another narrow escape at Glacier National Park, Winnie Hackleshack needed a break, so when her sister offered a vacation at a resort in Napa, California, she couldn’t refuse. But after arriving, Winnie’s quest to eat, drink, and be pampered got sidetracked when she’s asked to be a guest judge at a wine competition. After the judge next to her dies, and she gets sick, Winnie gets suspicious. The deeper she digs, the more she’s convinced it wasn’t an accident. It was murder.
While she continues to investigate the judge’s death, barn owls are disappearing, and local wineries employ a university to find out why. A researcher is found dead under mysterious circumstances, her documents missing. Winnie knows the deaths are related, and when the local sheriff refuses to investigate, it’s up to Winnie to find the killer. Before she’s the next victim.
Book 3, it might help to read the previous books to gain greater insight into the characters featured. Nonetheless, the story works as a standalone. The story follows Winnie as she visits her sister in California and delves into their relationship and experience. However, not long into her visit, Winnie and her sister witness the death of a wine competition judge. Amidst the incident, Winne feels unwell and once she recovers, her former reporter kicks in and she investigates Cleo's death alongside Lexi, Reggie, and Patches, and soon Finn. Everyone believes the death was a tragic accident but Winnie disagrees. This is a cosy whodunnit featuring romance.

Can a sip of wine kill you? That hasn’t happened to me yet, but Winnie almost faced that fate. Twists and turns kept me turning the pages when Winnie got involved in another murder investigation. Trouble sure attracts this woman. I can’t wait to read more of her adventures in future books by M. S. Peke. I highly recommend this book. It’s so good that I read in one sitting.
