By FAR the hottest and best story of the series so far! We are talking five HUNDRED alarm fire HAWT. Steamy scenes in the double digits, all without losing all the tension and emotion. Garmon and Genevra scorch the pages and pull your heartstrings. With a touch of suspense too. Outstanding read!
To be noted, there are multiple potential triggers. See authors content warnings to see if you may have issues.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥+
I would recommend reading in order with Book 2, Taming the Devil as directly continues plot & characters from there. (I didn't love Book 1 and you don't need it for this one.)
Clever and insightful with lots of beautiful language and turns of phrase such as "Mary was a slender frail looking woman with her mother’s brown hair and pale blue eyes, her husband, a slightly pompous clergyman sliding quickly into middle age." Very hot too, no doubt the 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 historical romance I've read recently, they sure get it on a Lot! 70
I was very confused to why we kept getting Jacobs pov, I dont think it added anything to the story. His reappearance could’ve been easily explained instead of chapters of him with Maggie.
For brewer’s daughter Genevra Tate the death of her abusive husband was a redemption, and working hard to pay off his debts both a necessity and her ticket to independence. Until a stranger comes to claim a small fortune in outstanding gambling debts. She’s already indebted to a stepfather she loathes… Desperate but determined to keep her tavern, she decides to offer Lovell the only currency she has: her body.
Businessman and feared ruler of London’s underworld, Garmon Lovell was a man hardened by his past and obsessed with exacting revenge on those who wronged him. Determined to get his gaming hell back, he sets a plan in motion to kidnap the wife - his niece - of the current owner. Only his ruffians mistakenly capture the widow of one of his debtors. The woman’s resilience, strength and beauty intrigue him, and then she makes him an offer he simply can’t refuse…
Seven nights of passion. Sparks turn into fireworks - both of them discovering new heights of pleasure and the unexpected comfort of tenderness and care. But this arrangement has an expiration date… Will either of them survive with their hearts intact? And will the man who swears he will kill and die for her, be her saviour when disaster strikes and the past returns to haunt them?
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Incredibly touching, tender and honest romance. Exquisite, delectable steam. Strong emotions. Angst. An enthralling and wonderfully luscious tale of insatiable lust, passion, crumbling walls, forgotten desire, slowly intertwining souls and frozen hearts finding their beat once more. He never even considered settling down, and she’s so very set on never tying herself down again. Yet, somehow, being apart becomes unimaginable. A precious and fragile love that sits in stark contrast with the cold, harsh and unforgiving darkness around them. Violence, vengeance and reckoning. Controlling, cruel, abusive men and old debts that can be settled in more ways than one…
A well-written and strong plot with complex characters in an imperfect world populated with colourful and interesting - both good and bad - side characters. Dark, steamy and riveting until the end. I just loved it and I will definitely check out the previous books in this series!
This is third installment of the Villains Redemption Series but can be read as a stand-alone. I didn’t read the previous books and was able to follow along with the back story between several of the characters. The pacing and plot was great and the story was interesting with great twists and turns!
Our MFC Genevra, an inn owner, is widowed, left with significant debt by her deadbeat husband. She offers herself to our MMC Garmon, who owns her husband’s debt because she hasn’t the funds to pay up. What follows is a super hot, steamy relationship between the two.
I loved Genevra from the jump! I like an independent, smart, capable MFC and loved that she ran her own business. At first I thought I wouldn’t like Garmon (I’m a cinnamon roll girl and he has a lot of “alpha” tendencies) but because he was so invested immediately in her pleasure when she made their bargain, I couldn’t help but like him! I also loved how interested and respectful he was to Genevra as a fellow business owner. I loved the supporting characters as well.
The sex was steamy and very appropriate for the story. Definitely not too much considering the story centers around their sex bargain. And the sex was integral in the development of the romantic relationship between Genevra and Garmon, which is the point of erotic HR. Without it, I don’t think Garmon especially would have allowed himself to emotionally open to Genevra. He expresses his “love language” through physical intimacy. And the sex bargain allows Genevra freedom to accept pleasure, which helped her to learn to trust. Once she allows herself to trust, she eventually accepts support, care and kindness from Garmon in all aspects.
I really loved the characters, the story structure and the writing style of Wren St. Claire…I’m looking forward to reading more of her books!
I received an ARC for this book. My opinions are all my own.
This is the first book I’ve read from this author. I found this book is a fantastic read and will get pulses racing over and over again. It draws you in from the start and keeps you wanting more. It has a very steamy scenes but also a great storyline. Garmon Lovell is a man with a bad reputation and has to be taken seriously and he takes his business even more seriously. He lends money and expects the debts to be repaid on time or there will be serious consequences and everyone knows it. Genevra is a widow struggling to keep her tavern open. Bills and overheads has meant she has had to borrow money from her stepfather to stay afloat. She gets a visit from one of Garmon’s men looking for her husband to repay a debt taken out by him before he died that Genevra knew nothing about. Genevra cannot repay the debt in one payment, so she decides she has to try and renegotiate the payment of the debt. She approaches Garmon and they reach a compromise. A very hot, steamy compromise. She spends seven nights in his bed and he will extend her loan repayment time. The storyline involves side characters including Genevra’s family and employees of Garmon who enhance the story but are not too many to be confusing for the reader. The development of Garmon is lovely to read; from mean and vengeful to a man who falls in love for the first time and has compassion to those who matter to him, not so much of a personality change for his enemies but no one is perfect. Genevra’s marriage had much to be desired but she blossoms and grows in confidence with Garmon by her side. There’s a twist in the story that made my heart sink and fear for the couple’s happiness. There’s a lovely epilogue too. The story ends with a peek at what the next book will be about. Looking forward to reading the next book.
Trigger warning of miscarriages and domestic violence.
I received this book from the author as an ARC reader. This review has been left voluntarily and all views are my own.
I received an advanced review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Genevra Tate has taken over the running of the family tavern (extra points for Genevra being a small business owner) after the death of her crappy husband. One day she receives a visit from the associate of Garmon Lovell – known criminal kingpin – with the very unwelcome news that a debt incurred by said crappy husband is due. Genevra ain’t trying to hear this and she certainly doesn’t have the money to pay it back.. there must be some other way!? Genevra is thinking what I’m thinking – and Garmon is only too happy to accept 7 nights with her in return for an extended payback period.
The transformation of Garmon is particularly enjoyable. He goes from ruthlessly collecting from the unfortunate people who owe debts to him (Taking people’s houses? Kidnapping their kids? All in a day’s work for Garmon), to the period in between where he is very perplexed by FEELINGS that he FEELS for Genevra, and we eventually come full circle to an emotionally intelligent man. But that Garmon, tsk tsk – he already put certain events into motion before he became a better person and everyone’s gonna have to deal with the fallout.
Strategically based flashbacks keep the tension high as we follow the story of someone from Genevra’s past who you JUST KNOW is going to make trouble!
Overall, a great read that is blessedly ballroom-free!! I’m still trying to understand how Genevra was able to run her business by day, spend those 7 nights with Garmon AND be able to walk normally!! LOL
This is my first read of Wren St. Claire. I absolutely love so many things about this book and the authors writing style. The story was very original. I love how I was able to get to know Genevra and Garmon. The wording and descriptions were wonderful and they created a vision in my mind as I was reading. I dont always enjoy past to present stories but the way the past was inter-woven into what was going on in the present was expertly written. I could literally see scenes in my mind. The sensuality and devotion Garmon and Genevra had with each other as well as to themselves as independent people was brilliant. I will definitely read St. Claire's work again. I received an advanced readers copy of this and all thoughts are my own.
It's nice to read historical romance that takes place outside the ballroom, and this story between a gang leader and a tavern owner definitely delivered enough intrigue and spice to keep me flipping pages late into the night. Wren St. Claire demonstrated her ability to pack a lot of heat into the book, while giving me enough character development to make it meaningful. I wondered how she would redeem the cruel Garmon from Taming the Devil, but by showing the care he feels for Genevra, I found myself rooting for a bad guy to find love!
I received an advance copy, and this is my honest opinion.
I received this I very much enjoyed this book as an ARC. First book by this author and haven’t read any other books in the series. I very much enjoyed it, the MMC was gritty but unabashedly vulnerable. The FMC wasn’t just a simpering lady.
I thought the POV outside of the main characters was unnecessary. It didn’t really do much for me and didn’t pay off in the end.
As a side note the names of main characters were very unique, took some getting used to. Not a negative just a note.
This was a moving story of tragedy and love on both Garmon and Generva’s sides. They both had hard and tough pasts to work through. The author wove a lovely tale of love, meaning, and healing - even with a somewhat morally gray MMC. There is lots of spice, but it didn’t overshadow the storytelling.
Steamy!!!! Loved this book. It is always great to see older characters get their story told. By older I mean not 22!! The characters find their way and the HEA is perfect. Well worth a read. I received an arc copy for my own honest opinion.
This book is awesome! This is Garmon & Genvra's story. I loved this book! The spice was chefs 💋! I loved this book, there was all the things I love mystery, action, & the smexy scenes were so well done! I highly recommend this series & author!
DNF The constant descriptions of the sexual relationships resulted in limited progress in the development of a plot and/or characters. 40%into the book and I find myself skimming pages looking for events that further the story. Tedious and boring
A match made in 'heaven'? This was an enjoyable and intriguing story. A very strong independent heroine and a very commanding arrogant hero. A must read.
The plot and characters in this book were likeable and interesting. It would have benefited greatly from a beta reader or editor go through everything and clean it up.
This book just went on and on, and on, and on, and on…..I’m not a prude and love steamy and spicy, but this was basically one long sex scene with a little bit of plot thrown in.
Underworld boss Garmon Lovell gets more than he bargains for when pretty widow Genevra Tate offers herself for more time to repay her late husband's gambling debt in this erotic Recency romance.
Revenge On The Devil is the third book in this series but you should be able to enjoy it without reading them. But there are interesting characters from those books who make appearances here.
There are no glittering ballrooms or fancy parties in this story, just hardworking people finding love during the day to day course of their lives. Lovell is a feared and brutal man with a hard past that included growing up in a brothel. Genevra is trying to make an independent life for herself by making a success of her tavern and her step-father is pressuring her to find a husband to run it for her. There's swearing and rough talk and Lovell and Genevra exist in a world where one takes justice into one's own hands. Somehow they are right for each other. I enjoyed seeing her bring a change to Lovell.
There are several inventively choreographed intimate scenes - after all he does talk her into 7 nights in his bed. That bedroom door is wide open here. Wow! (Fanning my face).
I enjoyed this and I recommend this story. The reason for the 4 stars rather than the 5 is I felt it needed 1 more round of polishing in the first 3rd of the story.
TW for miscarriage discussion, domestic violence depiction, murder.
Oh So Good!! This is a wonderful tale about falling in love - you know the kind - where both Garmon and Genevra will do anything for each other and I mean anything. Besides this, it was one of the most passionate and endearing books I have read in a long time. I found myself turning pages, "just one more page and I'll go to sleep", ha ha! - and "just one more paragraph" when I could hardly keep my eyes open or "I'll grab a sandwich in a minute" when my stomach felt like it was eating itself. Honestly, I was getting towards the end of the story and then had a bright idea - "you can always start reading it again.....". So I did!
