End of the Beginning A Post-Apocalyptic Survival Journey
In a world without war, peace abides everywhere. There’s no crime, hunger, or homelessness. Yet, catastrophic events have changed America’s terrain. Now, divided in half by an earthquake separating the east from the west, the population has dwindled to a mere one hundred and fifty million, all living on the eastern coast, governed by the WGO (World Government Order). As a government employee, Dr. Rylee Cooper follows their rules and regulations. Content with her life as an archeologist and a professor at the Institute, going about her daily life has never been a worry. Not until an unexplained homeless man warns her about the end and a danger coming. In less than a day, her peaceful, content life is hurled into a world of chaotic confusion, disbelief, and fear.
Although the book is a mix-up of several versions of the end of days, I read to the end. I found the characters boring, and the types of problems they encountered and lived through to be very unbelievable. What I really disliked was the over use of the word "Strolling". The characters strolled everywhere, even when it was clear they should run, walk, sneak, anything but strolling.
I have read many apocalypse books but this one keeps your interest from the start. The five main characters (Rylee, Tobias, Suzy, Charles and Radek) are all being hunted but they are truly good people, along with the dog that were doomed for doing the right thing and not following the lies the Government has instilled for decades. Looking forward to where this story goes in book two. By the way, you can’t help falling in love with Radek, a German Malinois.
This time read a book from Judy Baker. A different version of apocalyptic word. The world is the haves and have nots and either is aware of the existence of the others. Where our MFC is unaware of the evil the government is. When she doesn’t lie for the government she is in the hit list. This her story. Great world building and of characters.
Love this story. It's different than many other apocalyptic books. This takes place in the future, after many of the earthquakes, tsunami's, etc. What has happened to the survivors? Who becomes the elites, and who are the slaves? A story of awakening to the truth. Can't wait to read the sequel.
Opening with the Americans leaving behind their Chilean colleagues to all die in a tsunami is...a real choice. (Even if it was supposedly the Chileans' choice.) Immediate DNF. Especially with the bad archaeology that came before it.
