This novella was a bookfunnel freebie. From the other reviews, I gather that these characters have been in other books that I haven't read. But you can catch on pretty quickly.
The main characters both have a thing for cats and each other. But her mother had to give up her career dreams for family, so the FMC is worried that getting into a relationship with the MMC, who appears to be a huge sweetheart, would derail her. They're both stuck into an airport and there is a zany emotional support alligator running around.

I’m so happy to be back in Bad Dog and just in time for the holidays!
This is a lovable novella that tells Dipsy and Bear’s story as they both try to get home for Christmas. And nothing can bring two people closer together than being stuck in the airport during a snowstorm. Of course hilarity ensues and love conquers all. Making this a perfect holiday read.

Loved it (rounded up)
I am so happy that we got this little novella for Dipsy and Bear! Meeting Bear (and Clyde) in Kind of a Sexy Jerk really made me want this story and Lili delivered, y'all!
This is a second-chance between Dispy the McGuire cousin and Bear who met and had a short romance before going their separate ways so Dipsy could chase her dreams. Bear is hurt from his action-adventure in Kind of a Sexy Jerk and is trying to get home for Christmas. Dipsy is stuck in the same airport in an elf costume (for work) and that's where this second meet-cute happens.
The adventure in this airport between the 2 of them is just hilarious and built for the freaking big screen as a cute holiday romcom. The airport characters they meet along with the baby alligator stowaway and the sexy shenanigans they get into leading to their HEA and most perfect wedding in the history of perfect weddings was something that only Lili Valente (or her and her often writing partner Pippa Grant) can do.
This four-legged sidekicks are, again, Clyde the cat and, as said above, an alligator who likes to cause a scene.
Even though this was a novella, it was fully fleshed and felt like a full-length. We are graced with the voice talents of Jason Clarke and Lili Valente again who bring Bear and Dipsy to life.

This is Ms. Valente’s Christmas novella as part of her Bad Dog series. Ms. Valente has previously co-written some series with Pippa Grant one of the funniest rom.-com. writers you’ll ever read. For this series as you can tell from the town’s name of Bad Dog MN. she’s borrowed some of Pippa’s zaniness for every book in this series. As this story begins we have Dipsy dressed as an elf rushing through the St. Louis airport trying to catch her flight home to Bad Dog for Christmas with her family. Her mother is a total wack job. There’s Gavin a baby alligator comfort pet who gets loose in the airport causing all sorts of mayhem. There’s a luggage mix up that leaves Dipsy with a very odd surprise. Yeah. Lili pretty much pulls out all the stops on this one.
I’ll be honest, perhaps because I’m a man, instead of feeling sympathetic towards Dipsy, I spent much of this story being annoyed with the female protagonist. The male protagonist Bear Hanson wanted to hand her the world on a platter but all she could worry about was becoming like her mother and forsaking her dream career for love and then resenting it for the rest of her life. Because she’s so afraid of becoming her resentful mother she doesn’t get that finding “The One” to live a life full of love with is far more important and fulfilling than any career will ever be. The fact that Bear is willing to anything to help support her dreams, not hinder them just doesn’t seem to register with Dipsy.
We met Bear Hanson in the last book in this series as the pet influencer owner of Clyde the adorable burping cat. To prevent Clyde from being kidnapped and held for ransom by the Sweetwater mob, that story’s male protagonist Matty McGuire an undercover CIA agent kidnaps him first. In this story Bear is still recovering from a broken kneecap he received from the Sweetwater mob when they tried to recapture Clyde. When almost all the Christmas Eve flights out of St. Louis are cancelled out of St. Lous due to weather Dipsy and Bear run into each other in the airport. Bear wants desperately to reconnect with Dipsy and Dipsy wants desperately to get as far away from Bear and his pull on her heart as she can. When she discovers she’s twice gotten the wrong luggage and is left with nothing to wear but the uncomfortable elf suit she wore for a fluff piece she filmed just before heading to the airport Bear insists on buying her some new clothes. And then to take her to dinner. Dipsy insists that rather than spend the night with Bear in his beautiful hotel suite (did I mention he’s rich?) she’s going to try and camp out in the airport. With one goodbye kiss she leads Bear standing alone on his crutches in his suite as he watches Dipsey walk out the door. Have Dipsy and Bear blown their one chance at their H.E.A. or will Dipsey have a change of heart and come back to Bear and have incredible Christmas Eve sex? Guess you’ll have to read this novella to find out.

This was such a fun novella and addition to the “Bad Dog” series. “When It Shines” is a flirty, fun and laugh out loud Christmas romance that I loved and finished in one sitting.
Dipsy is trying to make it home to Bad Dog for Christmas and that includes sprinting through the airport in an elf costume, complete with bells. But a cancelled flight and misplaced luggage, she finds herself stranded there. And she runs into the guy she had so much chemistry with, she ghosted him. Bear has never forgotten about Dispy and has wanted to be with her regardless of how she left. As the two spend time together in the airport, chaos ensues but the chemistry they had before ignites again.
I loved reading about Dipsy and Bear’s adventure in the airport after getting their flights cancelled. It was of course at the worst time because they were trying to get home but them finding each other was so cute. Dipsy was so fun and sweet and I could just picture her running through the airport in her elf costume. Bear was such a swoony guy and I loved how he instantly went into helpful and protective mode with her. The way he shows that he cares is by acts of service and that made him even more swoony to me. They share a love of cats and I found that so endearing, it made me love them even more. I love that each book has a quirky animal and Gavin the emotional support gator is a new favorite. Overall, this was a great novella and I can’t wait for more from Lili Valente.

Choosing hope over fear
I loved Rose/Dipsy and Bear’s second chance, one bed, forced proximity, friends to lovers holiday novella. This story is heartwarming, fun, flirty, and steamy perfection with enough emotional depth to also evoke all the feels. Rose is a cub reporter still looking for her break. After her dream job suddenly ended, she is back living in her parents’ basement doing fluff pieces. Bear is a house flipper who owns an internet famous burping cat. Rose and Bear have overwhelming chemistry and attraction and were online best friends. After they met in person, Rose ghosted Bear because she was afraid of falling in love and having to give up her dreams for love. When a freak snowstorm strands them unexpectedly together at an airport, they may get that second chance if Bear is lucky or Rose’s fear and baggage may win out. This novella was well written and included witty dialogue, three dimensional characters who grow, and an engaging storyline as shown through sweet moments, steamy scenes, laughs, weird pets, messy families, painful pasts, and all the heart squeezing love. I am loving the series. 4.5 stars

Dispy and Bear had been messaging, video calls and had finally met at a cat convention. Dispy is a journalist, she wants to do hard hitting journalism but is currently doing fluff pieces for the local station in Bad Dog. Bear is a cat influencer and he has made his money in flipping houses and with cat toys and his cat Clyde. After meeting at the conference Dipsy ghosts him and this Novella is taking place on Christmas Eve at the airport when a mix up of luggage brings Dipsy and Bear back together. This is a fun, fast read. Both Dispy and Bear are likeable characters. They make new friends at the airport when their flights are all canceled due to weather, who they refer to as their airport family. The real question is will Dipsy and Bear get together or will Dipsy’s career plans keep them apart. I would definitely read more books by this author and this series.

Dipsy and Bear were the absolute sweetest pair I didnt know I needed in my life right now! I always love visits to Bad Dog so this was a no brainer to me of course. These two were destined for love but Dipsy wasn't about to wind up married and resentful like her Mom. How could she possibly resist Bear's charm, especially when they are trapped together and have the wild adventure that involved an airport, an alligator, ONE hotel room, and Pretty Woman-esque vibes! These two were so sweet, I fell for Bear immediately, I don't know who wouldnt, and poor Dipsy, her vulnerability is part of her charm but you really want to tell her to challenge the boundaries around her heart! This was a quick, sweet, steamy visit and I can never get enough of Bad Dog resident's charm and quirks and I can't wait until we see them all again, even if its only in other people's books lol

I was so happy Bear has gotten his story! I fell for this gentle giant in the previous book. Plus how can you not like a man who loves cats! This novella was even better because it happens on Christmas Eve. With any Bad Dog book hilarity is expected and this book was no different. Loved how they created an airport family after having their flights all cancelled. The little one and the green puppy was a big highlight of the book for me along with Bear and Dipsy's story. Fear can be crimpling that makes us miss out on some of the best things in our life and Dipsy is facing that choice. Bear is prime book boyfriend material. Total swoon fest with him. Dipsy is one lucky lady that's for sure! I loved the epilogue so much!! It fit this couple perfectly. I highly recommend this one. It's a fun quick holiday read!! Love!!

Can I just stay in Bad Dog and never leave! I mean these characters that live there just make me want to be around them 24/7. Bear and Dipsy! They are just the cutest. Being on a tight schedule to get home for the holidays is stressful enough. But being stranded in a place in a costume, priceless. But I could imagine what Dipsy was going through. She comes through like a champ.
Even though this is a short story, we still get the full character of Bear. He is the kindest and sweetest that there is. Dipsy makes him better and vice versa. The shenanigans these two get into being stranded are funny and a little dramatic. But all in all, great story about two folks coming back together from fate!

A quick holiday story that oozed charm and wit! I loved the trip back to Bad Dog to find out Bear and Dipsy's story.
Dipsy is going home to Bad Dog for Christmas and stayed dressed like an elf (from work) as she bolts through the airport to make her flight. What she didn't plan on was everything going wrong. Her flight got cancelled because of snow, her luggage got lost and of all the people to get stuck with, it's Bear. Her crush, her embarrassment.
Great story! Loved the chemistry between Dipsy and Bear. The luggage fiasco that seemed to keep happening to Dipsy and all the other funny instances in her journey to get back to Bad Dog, had me laughing! Loved Bear, he was such a great guy!!

I loved how Bear is so sure in his feelings for Dipsy, but he doesn’t pressure her and lets her come to her own realizations about her feelings. This adorable novella is a lot of fun with wacky supporting characters that you will fall in love with and one mishap after another leaves your heart full of heart and humor.

LOVED!
I met Bear and heard about Rose “Dipsy” Hobbs in Matt and Nora’s book and had to read their story!
So incredibly sweet! I loved how he expressed his interest and desire for her but didn’t push her too hard. He nudged her and tried to get her see his perspective but at the end let her come to her own conclusions that she could handle their relationship.
And at the end Lili jumps the time forward a year and they are just the most beautiful couple and their connection is so strong!
And I just LOVED that they got married at the airport they made their relationship official at ❤️❤️

Ah, this was such a fantastic holiday romance! While I wasn't a fan of how Rose/Dipsy originally ghosted Bear, I empathized with her reasoning and I did have a greater appreciation for her as their second chance at a happily-ever-after unfolded. As for Bear, well, the guy was a cinnamon roll with a deliciously dirty side to him, and his love for Rose/Dipsy made him even more endearing. Countless bonus points have to go to the supporting cast of characters, particularly Rose/Dipsy and Bear's airport family who brought such dimension to the story, making for a fun-filled romp as they were all stuck together at the airport. Overall, When It Shines indeed shines bright, and it gets five stars.

I adore Bad Dog! This novella is super sweet. You’ll get more out of this one if you’ve read Book 4 where we meet Bear, Clyde & learn about Dipsy!
These characters are wonderful & their airport “family” are the quirkiest of all. I adored Gavin!!

I loved this story of Bear and Rose! This is such a cute story of destiny! They had been together before, but Rose thought she couldn't pursue her career and also have Bear. We're Bad Dog adjacent for most of this sweet, hilarious, second-chance novella that’s here just on time for the holidays! Finally, we get Rose/Dipsy and Bear's story!
We met Bear and his internet-famous, burping cat in the previous book, and this story takes place shortly after that. He and Dipsy were virtual BFFs, but Bear wanted more. Dipsy, or Rose in her professional life, is determined to make it as a reporter and won’t let anything get in her way. Not even love.
However, when she gets stranded by a snowstorm at the same airport where Bear is waiting for his flight home, fate may have different ideas about love's timing. How can Dipsy resist the guy she’s been crushing on when they get the last hotel room in the area and it has only one bed?
Fraught with holiday shenanigans, a ridiculous emotional support animal, and hilarious antics, it's the emotion and sweetness of this one that fills the reader's heart with holiday comfort and joy. A phenomenal addition to a delightful series, this is just the thing to bring a smile to your face and feelings of happiness and cheer to your heart this Christmas.

I'm so glad that Bear and Rose (Dipsy) get their HEA! He is seriously the sweetest teddy bear of a man! Dipsy is career focused and thinks she can't have love and a fulfilling career. Bear shows her that it is possible with his love and support. The airport shenanigans are hilarious and the love they share is beautiful.

A great holiday novella between two online friends who have lost contact while they are trapped in the airport during a snowstorm! I love these types of holiday books because they are just filled with good times, but yet still have substance and emotional connections.
I loved all the drama with the baby alligator, they were hilarious. All the characters are so fun to read about!

I loved being transported back to Bad Dog, I love this little town!
Rose and Bear...what a pair. Who says being trapped at an airport is a bad thing? When Bear turns up the charm it will melt ALL the snow built up around Roses heart. This had all the makings of a small town romance gone right. Do yourself a favor and grab it today!

Lovely Christmas story
Hilarious, short and sweet holiday story you won’t want to miss. I love Lili’s ability to bring out the goofiest characters in her books. Like Gavin the emotional support 🐊. Gotta love it, still my fav will always be Raccoon stories.

when it shines by lili valente. this was hilarious. trying to get home for Christmas. stuck at an airport. especially with a one night stand from the past. both of them wanted more but are trying to focus on other things. but after all this time, they decide they want more and give into desire. cute little holiday read. this series is addictive.

This was a fun, cute and quick novella. It was easy-to-read and I really loved the characters. This was a Christmas vibes book and since we're slowly getting to that time of year again, I was glad this was my first of the year. I really liked it and really flew through.
