Connor Spears is hockey royalty who most definitely never planned to accidentally marry his childhood irritation Hadley Crews. Connor is smug, grew up destined for his hockey career, and he’s irritatingly good-looking. He was also my next-door neighbor growing up. He wouldn’t give me the time of day and made it clear he would never be friends with me, the ballerina and daughter of a baseball legend. Except for that one time. Years later, one hazy night, and now he’s apparently my husband according to the paper next to his bed in a Vegas hotel room. You would think we would have it annulled, but he needs to clean up his image, and I’m a sucker for his occasional glances. So, we agree to stay married. Rumor spreads fast in Lake Spark, and the responses of our parents, who are best friends, well, uh… they’re mixed. But the problem with marrying for convenience is that you discover secrets about each other. You learn things too, like how he is by far more protective of you than you thought, or how sharing a bed brings out his dominant side. The thing is, it turns out that I may mean more to Connor than he’ll ever admit. When life throws me another twist, I need a real husband to support me. And it turns out that Connor may have always been offside, waiting to win… Connor and Hadley bring heartwarming steam to this marriage-of-convenience romance with a hint of enemies-to-lovers and a dash of unrequited love. Waiting to Win can be read as a complete standalone and is the second book in the interconnected Lake Spark Off-Season series which is a spin-off of the Lake Spark series that includes their parents’ stories. For lovers of small-town romance with a touch of hockey.

Looking for the original couple cover? It can be found under the Waiting to Win ebook page in the Lake Spark Off-Season series.

Evey writes heartwarming romances with steamy moments, often in small-town settings with an element of sports. An American from the Midwest, she now lives in a tiny country in Europe where it rains a lot. That is probably why she occupies her days typing away on her laptop with music on repeat and slow-roast coffee nearby. Oh, and she vows to never break up with cake.

At the start of the year, I promised myself that I would read and listen to my new author this year and I am glad I have stuck to that promise because if I hadn't I wouldn't have crossed paths with Evey Lyon's books..

Waiting to Win is my first book by this author and it won't be my last. This book at the right amount of push and pull, spice, banter and amazing characters. I loved Connor and Hadley and their childhood friendship that turned into an enemies-to-relationship type thing, I love their families and how they were neighbours growing up. That actually reminds me of me and my late husband so it kind of was a bit emotional for me to read.

I'm not going to dive in any deeper... I think anyone that loves a good childhood friends-to-lovers, enemies-to-lovers, swoony, spicy romance, this book is for you!
I absolutely loved it!

Oh my heart ❤️ I completely devoured this book. Wow Evey Lyon this book was so great.

I didn’t know Connor could go under my skin like that but I absolutely loved it.
Connor and Hadley were perfectly beautiful.
I already knew them and I saw them evolved through their families’s books.
Connor and Hadley were beyond my expectations. He’s such a gentleman and thoughtful. She’s sassy and so confident. They’re just a perfect match ❤️🥰🥹.

I loved the energy of this book, the vibes all around the small town, but also with their families. Their moms were magical 🤩. I loved their friends too and the humour with it. I also enjoyed the steamy parts 🫦.

What surprised me the most was Spencer, Hadley’s dad 🥰.

I smiled a lot and I felt the emotions too. The love in this book was really big. My heart is full 🥰.

If you’re looking for an easy-read and heartwarming story this one is for you.

Oh, I love this book! A fun, flirty, beautifully romantic story with childhood frenemies, a cocky hockey player, unrequited love, a fake marriage and an absolutely gorgeous love story. It’s a second generation from Evey Lyon’s Lake Spark series, but can easily standalone, and it’s such a great read!

Hadley and Connor were introduced as children in the Lake Spark series. Hadley is Spencer’s daughter (from Worth the Chance) and Connor is Ford and Brielle’s son (from Worth the Wait). They grew up next to each other, and Hadley crushed on Connor for pretty much her entire life. Connor was well aware of her crush, and either teased or outright dismissed Hadley, and their relationship is now pure snark, in each other’s lives only because they are neighbors and their parents are best friends.

Everything changes when they go away to Vegas for an overnight trip with mutual friends and after a drunken night out, they wake up married. Already treading on thin ice due to his party boy reputation, Connor proposes that they stay married until things settle down, and then they’ll go their separate ways. Hadley is curious enough to agree. So back home to Lake Spark they go, declaring their ‘love’ to their parents, moving in together and pretending to be husband and wife.

But from the very beginning, their situation is complicated by their complex feelings for each other. While Hadley has always worn her heart on her sleeve, Connor has been more closed off and hasn’t shown the feelings he’s been secretly been harboring. Their past is a murky, but seeing Connor’s fierce protectiveness and the care he takes with Hadley, you can see that there is something more there.

“You’re not just anyone. You were always going to be more than something to me.”

It doesn’t take long before the sexual tension becomes irresistible, and everything sort of snowballs from there. It’s passionate and intense, full of chemistry, and so, so hot. And though they maintain their bickering and bantering, there’s an easy comfort between them, and the change in their dynamic is so much fun.

“I swear the only reason I’m here is because orgasms are essential for living and tequila made you my husband.”

Their emotional connection develops slowly and naturally. They build a friendship, and start to trust in each other, and the change between them is so easy. Their feelings for each other effortlessly deepen, and they just allow it to happen, talking, opening up to each other and following their hearts, and I loved watching it happen! The love between them was always there, watching them come together and embrace it so openly stole my heart!

“I’ve always been waiting for you, you’re my end game.”

The parents are a fun addition to the story. They all knew there was something between Hadley and Connor, but none of them were expecting it to unfold the way it did, and their reactions are so freaking funny.

“I warned you that your hockey-playing son should stay away from my little girl,” he seethes to his friend.
Ford rolls his eyes. “Yeah, when they were teenagers! They are legal adults now who drink and know how to sign their name on a marriage certificate. We need to focus on the now. They’re married.”
“Yeah, and your son didn’t have the respect to speak to me before he made my daughter his bride!” My father is furious.
“I would have. It’s just…passion and love caught us in a moment,” Connor explains.
My dad rubs his temples. “Do. Not. Speak of passion and my daughter to me. If it weren’t for the fact that you are Ford’s son, then I swear I would kill you right now.”

It’s a fun and romantic story, and a great addition to the series, and I loved this story so much.

4.5 stars.

This was such a low-angst book and I needed that change of pace. I love a good accidental marriage and combining that with a second chance and childhood friends just made it all that better because the history was already there. I found their relationship to be cute and also very obviously endgame considering how they made rules and broke them not soon after lol. Just a light fun read. The third-act brought on some heart pain but it was not completely between the main characters so there was not a third-act breakup which is always nice. Loved how Conner was all in from the start. Their family planning everything they did on the down low was so funny I love a good-hearted meddling family.

Waking up in Vegas...yeah that ol' cliché. Now Hadley has to deal with a marriage to her least favorite person, Connor Spears. She may have had a crush on him in her distant past, but no longer, so being married to the jerk is going to test her in ways she's really not looking forward to. Her body might still be attracted to the man, but his obnoxious personality gets more smug every day, and she really dislikes having to be married to the man who rejected her so horribly. She'll just have to stick it out until they can make it look like they gave it a good try. No problem, right?

Connor's hiding a secret from Hadley. Now that they're married, he'll definitely never tell her, because one it's not his to tell, and two, she'll leave him in a heartbeat. And he wants to stay married to the woman he's never gotten out of his mind, regardless of the way he treats her. He's going to keep her if it's the last thing he does, and make her realize how lucky they are that though they may not remember their wedding, but they're meant to be.

Enemies to lovers vibes, accidental wedding - tropes I love. Hadley and Connor have snarky, fun dialogue, and electric chemistry. So why not 4 stars? Well, the drama toward the end seemed thrown in and manufactured. And Hadley's reaction was ridiculous. But I like the story itself, and both characters, even if I don't like the last part very much.

Connor Spears being called on the carpet by the best of the best. One related to him by blood, the married to his blood family member. They may be embracing a casual day with jeans and shirts, but their seething stare is a constant lately. But he’s the golden ticket, and they know it. He’s a little to cocky. Sitting there at a table overlooking Lake Spark in great weather in May in Illinois, it has not improved their disposition. His Uncle Declan is the first to speak, and that doesn’t surprise him. His stake in Connor’s hockey career is a little high, considering he owns the Spinners Hockey team he plays for.

He’s never afraid to voice his disapproval, yet he has a soft spot for Connor. How can he not? He married his aunt Violet, and she’s the best. More like a friend since they’re closer in age, plus her flower shop provides the flowers that he needs to charm the female population around town. Sitting next to his uncle is his father. Ford Spears and Declan Dash are hockey legends; they played together years ago and never left hockey behind. His father owns the sports complex nearby where the Spinners train.

“Why are we having this conversation yet again?” His dad asked him. Connor has been having the equivalent of “Girls Gone Wild” since he started in the league, and it’s no longer being tolerated. While his father isn’t his agent, he voluntarily took on an unofficial role as Connor’s manager and trainer without the title, lucky him. He also gets to throw in the dad card, too, yet Connor never minded. His father and mother had him when they were young, which means the age difference makes it a hell of a lot easier to connect sometimes.

So, if he wants to help guide his career, then so be it. Declan leans forward, telling him, “I’m begging you, for all our sakes, to cool it down with the partying,” he states. Then his dad speaks up, saying your multimedia coverage has often not been very favorable lately. Which, in turn, does not make your mother happy. Wow, his dad was going in hard guns. Not playing around with the importance of the subject, his behavior. “We made it to the playoffs, even after our shitty season, so of course, the team was going to celebrate,” he tries to tell them. Declan counters with, “There is a photo of you taking shots next to the goalie while lying on a bar top.”

He shrugged his shoulders. “So? I’m in my twenties. What else would I be doing to celebrate?” His Uncle Declan points a finger at him. “I swear I could strangle you.” “It’s off-season now. I’m strongly suggesting that you lie low. Straighten up your image a bit. You want to be in the media for your skill, not for your off-ice antics,” his dad points out. “Relax, I have one more thing, then I’ll focus on sleeping in, hanging with my little brothers, and hitting the gym.” Lifting his nose, my father asks with a hardened stare, “What’s one more thing?”

His grin stretches. “Vegas. The boys and I are heading there tomorrow for Briggs’s birthday. Don’t worry, I’ll be back for family dinner by the weekend.” But then his father forms a soft smile for someone standing behind him. “Hey, Hadley,” he greets her. Connor’s body tightens, and her name wipes his cocky grin right off his face. “Hi, Mr. S. and Mr. D..” Hadley Crews is a few years younger than him, his next-door neighbor growing up, and the daughter of a former baseball star. She’s also anything but polite when it comes to him. “Brielle, my sister, and your mom are hysterical.

They go on and on about that class you teach,” my father mentions. “Ballet Barre? They come every week, work up a sweat, then hit Jolly Joe’s right after class for cake. Balance, I guess.” “Brielle keeps asking me to check out her toned body,” my father reflects. Connor cringes at the thought. “Get it together,” he mutters. “None of us wants to know what you and Mom get up to.” “Passion doesn’t die, Son.” “Grabbing lunch, Hadley?” “Yeah, I’m just meeting Isla for a quick bite, then heading back to the dance studio. I’m teaching a group of eighty-year-olds this afternoon.”

“See? Work ethic and helping the senior population. You could learn a lesson or two from her.” “Trust me, I’m sure underneath her heart of gold, her mouth spits out wicked things.” Her eyes have a hint of wildness, the type that can make a man come undone if he isn’t careful. She’s always been the ballerina who dances with her hair down to Guns ‘n’ Roses. And her dark, polished nails? They dig into the skin as if she doesn’t want to let go. But that’s our little secret, one she wishes we didn’t share. Yup, you read that right, but the next morning, he turned her into a one-and-done.

But when she ends up on the Vegas trip and is dancing and drinking as if nobody’s watching, he takes control. However, the next morning, the rings on their fingers start all kinds of craziness when they get back. Some say they always knew it would happen, while others are hurt that they were left out. They plan to change things, but then decide to work through it when their truths come out.

Trying a new-to-you author can be like playing the lottery, and I just won big with Connor and Hadley's romance. I loved their story so much that I’m diving into Lyon's back catalog while I wait for the next Lake Spark Off-Season romance.

Connor Spears and Hadley Crews grew up together. As neighbors whose parents are best friends, avoiding the other was, well, unavoidable. Now he's a rising NHL star who plays for the Spinners, following in both his father's and uncle's footsteps. Hadley's family is sports-oriented too, with her father being a retired professional pitcher, but Hadley is all about ballet.

These two may have turned a sweet childhood friendship into an epic enemy next door scenario, but it doesn’t stop Hadley from joining her BFF on a trip to Vegas with Connor and some of his teammates. You know what comes next, right? Too much tequila, too many easily accessible wedding chapels, and waking up to matching wedding rings the hung-over morning after.

This works in Connor's favor, at least, since it helps him clean up his image during the off season, so Hadley agrees to stay married through the summer. But it's not long before one of them is working diligently to make this fake thing real, and they find that life can be a lot better with the right someone by your side.

This story is everything I love in a young adult romance, and this talented wordsmith executes it beautifully. Connor and Hadley are young, yes, but the character focus is on learning and growing through their insecurities and vulnerabilities without the annoying, selfish immaturity some YA is fraught with. Connor is a “bless his heart" hero in the best of ways, and I fell for his confidence, protectiveness and heart of gold. And our girl Hadley, there's no pouting or tantrum throwing, only careful consideration as she works through challenges life throws her way.

I love the small-town setting, the team banter and camaraderie, and the close-knit families. Charming, witty, sweet, and smexy, this touching, heartfelt, phenomenal story is sure to please any contemporary romance reader, young adult romance fan or not. Run to the 1-Click now, because you won’t want to miss Connor and Hadley's fated souls romance!

Connor and Hadley’s story is just wonderful

Hadley
Feisty, caring and supporting

Connor
Cocky, loving and family orientated

”You’re the only game that I’ve been waiting to win”

This story is another great book in the Lake Spark’s series and purely perfection. That series only keeps getting better and better.
We got to see Connor and Hadley through all the former books from Lake Spark as they are the kids of Ford and Brielle (Connor) and Spencer and April (Hadley).
But grown up Connor and HAdley are a handful each. Hadley being the feisty dancer who once got her heart broken by Connor. And Connor being the cocky hockey player who loves to rile her up.
They hate each other with intensity and despite their parents being best of friends they don’t keep it a secret how they feel.
Until one night in Vegas throws them a curveball, and hating each other isn’t their main focus anymore. Making the best of their impromptu decision both realize that there are some other things under the surface too. And they are willing to try.
But as so often, when it seems to get better and be good, there is something out that makes you take a few steps back.
And suddenly Hadley’s life is thrown out of her axis. And Connor may be the only one who can keep her afloat. Or has he always had a reason to supposedly hate her and that has now shown up too.
Can they still make it work or is Hadley’s trust too irreparable broken?
My thoughts:
I really liked both characters equally. Bothe are strongly family orientated and caring persons. Their hate to love story is full of funny, sweet and sighing moments. Their chemistry was over the top. Their support despite their indicated feelings is unquestionable.
Connor did an awesome turn in his behavior and was so sweet and caring to Hadley. And despite her being hesitant Hadley let him in, piece by piece. Both are willing to try and they succeed in the end so phenomenal and mature.
The turn in the story cracked my heart a little but the handling of that was so careful and wonderful that my heart healed fast.

Hadley has had a crush on Connor Spears since she first learned what crushes were all about, he was the hockey player that captured her heart... and then broke when they were teens. Since the night he uttered those hurtful words to her she has tried her best to avoid him, he broke a part of her she thought he never would, she mistakenly thought her heart was safe with him.

But it was not. Now they are sworn enemies and battle with sharp-tongued barbs every time they are near one another... it's the only way she knows how to keep her heart safe around him. If she convinces her heart that he is bad for her then she will be safe from his flirtations... which works just fine until they go on a trip with friends to Vegas!

This beautifully penned love story will have you swimming in feels and swoons! Hadley and Connor are supposed to be sworn enemies, but one drunk in Vegas changes that. When morning rolls around and these two find out that they spent the evening before saying "I do" panic sets in. Neither are really in the market for love or a relationship, especially with one another, and telling their parents, who happen to be best friends, that they made the mistake of getting married in Vegas has them scrambling to find a solution. Then Connor has an idea, fake their feelings for a while, make the marriage seem real, and then later down the road go their separate ways. Hadley thinks he may be on to something, it could work as long as she remembers not to get attached. But what happens when Connor is one getting attached?

I loved this story so much, it was evident early on that these two had something special and I knew their plan to fake a relationship would crumble in a matter of time, because feelings like theirs cannot be faked! I loved watching them try though, their story had me smiling throughout! I have a feeling this one is going to be a big hit with romance readers, it pages will keep you thoroughly entertained and it's words touch your heart! Highly recommend!

I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher and I am leaving my honest and unbiased opinion.

This is my first book by Evey Lyon and it blew me away. I know I know I say this a lot about books and the authors, but seriously these authors have some real talent. I loved this book. I read it in 2 days. Waiting to Win had it all! Childhood frenemies to lovers, angsty drama, banter, and the perfect combination of sports and small town love.

This book takes you on a journey of Connor and Hadley. Connor is a professional hockey player who shows up a lot in social media and not always for the best things. Hadley is a dancer as well as a dance instructor at their local small town studio. Connor and Hadley grew up as next door neighbors and have always had a crush on each other, even though it seemed they hated each other. Some secrets are buried deep that get revealed and everything Hadley thought she knew blew up in front of her.

A weekend in Vegas ends in an accidental marriage, Connor and Hadley start living together, announcing their engagement to everyone. They have a set timeline to end the marriage, but will they? Connor has an affectionate behavior which makes him absolutely swoon worthy. Hadley who was hurt before by Connor is cautious and guarding to heart and makes Connor prove to her that he’s all in.

I loved watching them learn to trust each other and realize their true feelings. I love that they took their time and Connor showed Hadley just how much he cares and loves her without even using words. He swoons her throughout the book and it’s absolutely adorable. Their accidental marriage turns into the perfect “it’s always been you” pairing and it was absolutely amazing.

I smiled, I got teary eyed, I cheered them on. I had all the emotions going through me while reading. It was a very heartwarming and easy read. I can’t wait to read the first book in this series along with the next book. I’m hooked on Evey Lyon’s books and I can’t wait for more.

I seem to be reading alot of new authors lately and Evey Lyon is another new author to me.
Waiting to Win is my first experience of her writing and her story telling.
I have to say that I really enjoyed it and I know this won't be my last Evey Lyon book.
Connor and Hadley's story starts when they are children, their parents are best friends and they are neighbours. So they see alot of one another and Hadley has always had a crush on Connor and Connor relentlessly teases her about it.
Moving on to now and Connor is a Hockey player and somehow the relationship with Hadley as turned into them being enemies and they only engage with eachother because of their parents and being neighbours.
Hadley is a dancer and has nothing but bad feelings towards Connor,so what is about to happen to them is so unexpected.
Las Vegas is the place were it all happens, were after a drunken night at a mutual friends birthady party they end up MARRIED !
The other surprise is that they don't go ahead with an annulment of the marriage, they stay married in hopes that it will help clean up Connors playboy reputation.
I really loved this story and how Connor and Hadley's relationship changes what was supposed to be a fake marriage, starts to feel real.
Especially when Hadley needs support Connor is there for her in more ways than one and proves that he has always held a special affection for Hadley.
Plus the chemistry and attraction between them is so apparent it just cannot be ignored and when they cross that line...it is intense and passionate and they are just so perfect for one another.
This is a lovely romance with emotion and steam its also funny and sweet and its is a very engaging story I couldn't stop reading.
I enjoyed the way Evey Lyon constructs her stories and the depths of her characters makes them feel so real..Her words had me totally captivated.
This book was such a pleasure to read and I enjoyed it very much.
Fabulous read.

This was everything I hoped it would be and more. Connor and Hadley's story gave me everything I wanted. It has so many amazing tropes and does it well. Connor and Hadley have a history. They grew up as neighbors and she has always had a crush on him. They do finally get together, but it is quick and leads to them turning into enemies. This book takes place several years later.
It's a small town, enemies to lovers, second chance, accidental marriage, and hockey romance all rolled into one. I'm not kidding when I say I laughed, and I cried. The relationship between Hadley and her father had big fat tears rolling down my cheeks.

The only slight dip from 5 star to 4.5 is that I didn't completely believe Connor's reason for making her hate him. It was understandable that he would need to step back and away from the issue, but to make her hate him felt like an overly extreme reaction on his part. It was just a little hard for me to wrap my head around him taking it that far. And honestly, I can't say more without spoiling it, but my statement will make much more sense if you read it.

I absolutely love this small town and all of the people within it. This can be read as a standalone but I'm so glad I read the previous series first. The feelings hit so much harder (I would imagine) knowing what Spencer went through already.
If you have been thinking about picking up any of the books in the Lake Spark of this series, I highly suggest you do. They fit sports romance and small town into each book while giving you laughs and lots of emotion as well. The relationships are really beautiful, and the characters are all so relatable.

Safe to say that I'm addicted and Evey Lyon has become one of my one click authors.

🏒𝒲𝒶𝒾𝓉𝒾𝓃𝑔 𝒯𝑜 𝒲𝒾𝓃 - 𝐿𝒶𝓀𝑒 𝒮𝓅𝒶𝓇𝓀 𝒪𝒻𝒻-𝓈𝑒𝒶𝓈𝑜𝓃 #𝟤 - 𝑅𝑒𝓋𝒾𝑒𝓌🏒

Author: Evey Lyon

Couple: Hadley Crews & Connor Spears

Tropes: hockey romance, small town, enemy to lovers, vegas wedding, coach’s daughter, forbidden romance

Review: Waiting To Win is the perfect blend into the second generation of the Lake Spark hockey players and their matches! Evey Lyon gives us the perfect blend of accidental Vegas wedding, enemy to lovers and childhood crush in Hadley and Connor’s romance. I enjoyed how it was obvious to everyone but the two MCs how much they liked one another and found Connor to be a huge instigator of the tension between them.

An area I enjoyed in this book was how Hadley and Connor were so entangled in one another’s life. The fact that Hadley is the daughter of the team’s owner and Connor is a star player on the team adds to the forbidden aspect of growing attraction between them. I enjoyed the push and pull they both had and found that the beginning was my favorite since Hadley flirting with a teammate pushed Connor over the edge. Evey tackled the Vegas wedding trope well and made the accident hilarious when they both realized they would have to tell their families.

While I felt like the two settled their differences pretty quickly, they do go through a lot of growth within the book. I appreciated how Evey had them both mature over the course of their romance and LOVED how hard Connor fell for his wife. I also found them having to live together to be the perfect ice breaker since neither of them had been close for years. The forced proximity trope is a favorite of mine and Evey does it up well in this book! The HEA at the end is satisfying and also hints at the couple coming next!

Rating: 4/5, a terrific way to end the series!

WAITING TO WIN by Evey Lyon

Connor Spears is hockey royalty who most definitely never planned to accidentally marry his childhood irritation Hadley Crews. Connor is smug, grew up destined for his hockey career, and he’s irritatingly good-looking. He was also my next-door neighbor growing up. He wouldn’t give me the time of day and made it clear he would never be friends with me, the ballerina and daughter of a baseball legend. Except for that one time. Years later, one hazy night, and now he’s apparently my husband according to the paper next to our bed in a Vegas hotel room. You would think we would have it annulled, but he needs to clean up his image, and I’m a sucker for his occasional glances. So, we agreed to stay married. Rumor spreads fast in Lake Spark, and the responses of our parents, who are best friends, well, uh… they’re mixed.

😊What i liked -

✔ Accidental Marriage/Enemies To Lovers/Sports/Small Town.
✔ I had found Connor too funny and cocky in the previous book and was looking forward to reading his book. And What a treat this book was.
✔ What a perfect combo Sassy Hadley and Cocky Dirty Talker Connor were.
✔ Okay Spencer stole my heart. (my heart was breaking when he was hurting)
✔ Top notch banter with cute nicknames.
✔ This book was one melty swoony hearted read.

🤔What could have been better -

✔ I did not want this book to end.

📚Who Should read :

👶Beginners
💝Romance Lover
💍Accidental Marriage Romance
🏡Small Town Romance

📈My Rating : 4.5/5

P.s - so waiting for the next in the series.

I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book, provided by WordSmith PR. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Oh. My. Word. I love Connor and Hadley! I mean, the little kids from the OG Lake Spark series all grown up? Both of them sarcastic and witty and OH THE BANTER. If you've read the OG series, you know Connor and Hadley had a hate-love relationship and really tried to stay away form each other (even tho they really did love each other!).

When Connor can't seem to rein in his playboy ways, he's advised by his uncle Declan to suck it up and deal with it. A friend's birthday trip to Vegas is his last hurrah - but of course his nemesis Hadley is along for the ride. When too many drinks are imbibed, and Connor and Hadley disappear from the party, they wake up married. Ooops!

Connor sees this as his opportunity to make Hadley his. Forever. Even tho she won't admit it, Hadley actually likes that idea. Connor was her first, and she never quite forgot him, even tho he broke her heart. But Connor has a secret reason for breaking her heart. And he'll do anything to keep that secret.

I cannot say enough about how much I loved this book. I laughed so much, and I honestly love Connor and Hadley even more than their parents! The steam, the banter and the family dynamics in this series are top tier. It feels like family, and I can't wait to read more books set in this world.

Waiting to Win is the second book in the Lake Spark Off-Season series, but it can be read as a standalone.

Connor and Hadley have known each other their whole lives as their parents are best friends and they are neighbors. Hadley had a crush on Connor, but then he hurt her, which made Hadley hate him.

Now Connor is a hockey player, and Hadley is a ballet dancer. They both end up going to Vegas with their friends, and after countless drinks, they end up married. This was the perfect opportunity for Connor to fix his image, so Hadley agrees to stay married to him.

Connor and Hadley had so much history between them, considering they practically grew up together. And despite the pain Connor had inflicted on Hadley, she was willing to help him. But Connor actually had a big heart, and he was so sweet and caring.

These two had a great connection, and they’re both very supportive of each other. When Hadley gets news that turns her world upside down, Connor is there for her, even though she tries to push him away. He truly just wants her to be happy, and he wants to protect her heart.

This was such a cute enemies to lovers, small town, second chance romance. There’s a touch of hockey, and it’s full of angst, heartache, some betrayal, healing, and love. Also, this is a second generation story and I’d read Connor’s parents’ story, so it was great to see him all grown up.

Are you looking for a frenemies-to-lovers romance that will have you so addicted that you are unable to put it down? Well, look no further because Ms. Lyon has just the book for you in Waiting to Win. She gives us a story that will have you laughing and getting all emotional at the same time. Her writing is riveting and will have you hooked right from the start with Hadley and Connor's love-to-hate, or hate-to-love relationship.
Hadley is the daughter of baseball royalty and has had a crush on Connor, her next-door neighbour for as long as she can remember, Connor. The only thing is that they had a history that ended up breaking her heart and she has never healed from it. Connor who happens to be the son of hockey royalty, has had a secret crush on Hadley for years. A crazy weekend in Vegas has their lives changed forever. How will the parents take to their news? Will Hadely be able to let Connor back into her heart? Will Connor prove to her that he wants this and that he will do anything to prove to her how much he loves her? What happens when their parents find out about their news?
I absolutely loved this story. The push-pull they had and the determination that Connor had to prove he was the one for her. Secrets were kept, and hearts were broken but with truths there also came true love and happiness.
I highly recommend grabbing Waiting to Win and fall in love with Hadley and Connor's HEA.

I received a complimentary early release e-book prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Connor and Hadley grew up together as both their parents are best friends. Hadley had a huge crush on him, but he crushed her heart instead because he had dreams of being a hockey player that he needed to do alone. But it caused her to hate him, but his heart actually belongs to her. If you think this sounds so romantic, well it is. This was such a romantic story that I adored it so much.

It is part of a series and is book 2 in the series. I did not read the first book, but I did read the previous Lake Spark series, and this book features the kids from that series. Hadley is Spencer’s daughter (Worth the Chance) and Connor is Ford and Brielle’s son (Worth the Wait). However, it totally stands alone.

This is also married in Vegas story. These two go off to Vegas with some friends and wake up hitched. Connor wants a chance with Hadley and so he takes his shot by convincing her to stay married to him.

I really loved this story and watching Hadley and Connor really discover who each one is now that they are all grown up. The two sets of parents was so much fun. I loved how overprotective Spencer was for his daughter and how he gives Conner a tough time about the whole Vegas married thing. This was really fun story with lots of romance and a wonderful cast of characters.

Such a great comfort read!!

I was so excited to read this one after loving the first book in the Lake Spark Off-Season series! And I think this one is my favorite so far!! I LOVE a good wake up in Vegas married story and then they decide to stay together to help turn Connor’s public persona around and let me say it just kept getting better and better!!

Connor and Hadley had known each other since they were young and if you read the original Lake Sparks series you would’ve seen their characters in some of the books as the children of the main characters from that series. They are next door neighbors and the love for each other has always been there even when they don’t get along as a front to hide their feelings for each other. This is also second chance romance feel because they do have a bit of a past with one another. Hadley doesn’t know if she can trust Connor anymore but Connor will stop at nothing to prove to Hadley that he can be the perfect husband material! And let me tell you he does not disappoint one bit! The things that come out of Connors mouth will have you swooning for him in no time and he will have you wrapped around his finger just like he does Hadley even though she tries to fight it. Their story really tugged at my heart strings and I’m sooo happy I read this book and can’t wait for the next one to come out!

Definitely a must read if you like small town romances with a hint of hockey in there!

“Waiting to Win” is the second book in Evey Lyon’s Lake Spark Off-Season series, and it’s a hockey/marriage of convenience romance that I think you will absolutely love!

Connor Spears and Hadley Crews have always had a rocky relationship. They’ve known each other since they were kids because they were next door neighbors, but Hadley’s obvious crush had always annoyed Connor.

Now that they’re both adults, the bickering still hasn’t stopped. They can’t stand each other - but when they get married in Vegas as a drunken mistake, Connor completely shocks Hadley when he insists that they stay married.

Oh my gosh. I really loved Connor and Hadley’s story! Evey Lyon is an amazing writer, but I think this book has become my favorite one of hers. I couldn’t stop laughing, and I enjoyed the banter and the drama as well.

I wasn’t expecting to love Connor as much as I did. In the previous books, he seemed cocky and full of himself, and I wasn’t sure how he was going to win Hadley over. But there is so much more to this man than I originally thought - and I’m glad!

Hadley was a wonderful heroine because she was smart and sassy, and because she didn’t let anyone put her down. She was also a very caring person, and I loved that she was willing to put Connor in his place when necessary.

I loved their chemistry, and I was really hoping things would work out for them. The ending made me so freaking happy, and this was absolutely a 5 star read for me!

Connor and Hadley did not come to play with us!! They brought us a love story filled with surprises, laughter, passion, family, friends and fun. I totally loved their book.

Connor and Hadley are enemies or so they would have you believe, but beneath all that bickering is attraction, passion and a past connection. They go to Vegas with their friends and end up married. They don’t really remember how they end up hitched but they decide to stay married to avoid upsetting their parents and to help clean up Connor’s image. I think Connor had a plan all along but those are just my thoughts. As they journey through matrimony, they have to make peace with their past hurts. Connor has regrets about the past and Hadley is still carrying scars from the past. Connor turns on the charm and lets Hadley know that he would like to play to win in this marriage game. Hadley has reservations but sees that he’s really going all out. Just when things seem to be smooth, another secret is exposed that throws Hadley into a spiral. Can she shake back from this revelation? Can Connor handle it? Yes to both. It’s not easy but both of them reveal their growth when they handle their issues together. They also have wonderful family and friends who support them.

This book was absolutely fabulous! I give it 5 flaming stars!!! ⭐️🔥⭐️🔥⭐️🔥⭐️🔥⭐️🔥I can’t wait for the next book. OMG…that teaser!! 🙌🏾

Waiting to Win: A Small-Town Accidental Marriage Hockey Romance (Lake Spark Off-Season Book 2) by Evey Lyon is about Cameron, a hockey player who comes from hockey royalty, and his next-door neighbor, Hadley, whose father was a famous baseball pitcher, gets drunken married in Las Vegas. Hadley and Cameron have a history that began as childhood friends, including one night as teens that turned into a nightmare that bled hurt and hate. With shots of Tequila and unrequited affections, Cam and Hadley wake up married with a marriage certificate and rings but no memory of their wedding night together. Since the Spinners, Cam's hockey team is in the off-season, he and Hadley decide to stay married to repair his wild party reputation. Cam proposes to try and woe Hadley and for them to try and give their marriage a chance. Secrets and family drama swirl about the two, all tied into their first night together. Waiting to Win: A Small-Town Accidental Marriage Hockey Romance (Lake Spark Off-Season Book 2) is the first book by Evey Lyon I have read. I am so happy to have found a new sports author who has a back catalog of books for me to read! I am impressed with the emotional depth of Evey Leon's romance with a guaranteed HEA, no cheating, and lots of heat. I can't wait to read the next book in the series Waiting to Play.

I am not sure what it was about this book that just didn’t go over right for me. Overall, the story line was great. I think for the most part, the plot tracked. I do wish there was more tension before Hadley and Connor stopped hating each other. I think their issues just kinda fell to the side and they never actually fought it out like I wanted. But other than that, the story itself was pretty good.

It was the small things that lost me. There was dialogue and sentences that just didn’t make sense. It was like half of the sentence was missing or two sentences were combined. It didn’t stop the overall understanding of the story, but it did distract me a bit. There were times when I had to reread a sentence a few times to try and figure out what I thought it was supposed to mean.

In terms of characters, I liked Hadley and Connor. I think Connor was the “he falls first, secret cinnamon roll” character that enemies to lovers book want and need. Hadley was sassy and spunky and I liked their banter. I don’t think the overall conflict that the end between them felt right for who they are, but I did really like them together.

Overall, this book struggled with the small things but I did finish it. If you can look past the weird wording and the questionable conflict between the MMC and FMC, the book is a cute sports romance!

I love everything about my visits to Lake Spark and I love this series and honestly for me , Hadley and Connor’s story is the perfect addition to this wonderful series.
Hadley and Connor grew up living next door to each other, their parents are best friends and she has crushed on him most of her life. Connor knew how she felt but he played it off and made Harley feel like her feelings were going nowhere. But a trip to Vegas is about to turn both their life’s around…..what happens in Vegas should stay in Vegas until it doesn’t. Waking up in the same bed with rings on their fingers could have this couple going one of two ways, run in opposite directions or convince their families that this marriage is real…….
You need to one click this gem to find out which path they take.
Waiting to Win is a fun, witty, entertaining read that is beautifully written with wonderful characters. I fell hard and fast for Connor and Hadley is the woman I want as a bestie but what took this book to another level was the journey that Ms Lyon took us on, the banter that follows so effortlessly, the love that jumped off the pages and passion that sizzled so hot throughout this book. A great addition to the Lake Spark Off Season that has left me wanting more and excited for what’s to come.

Connor Spears ruined me!! Waiting to Win had it all! Childhood frenemies to lovers, angsty drama, and the perfect mix of sports and small town.

Just as I would’ve expected, Ford & Brielle raised a good man! Connor’s protective nature, and loving/affectionate demeanour made him absolutely swoon worthy. Once he decided to stop fighting his feelings for Hadley, Connor goes all in, with an unwavering and wholehearted love that filled my whole heart!!

Given their history, Hadley guards her heart, and makes her childhood crush pull out all the stops to win her heart, and does he ever!

The way the two grew up together and then became exactly what one another needed as partners, was amazing. The loving and supportive relationship they formed, and the mutual respect and adoration they had for each other at such a young age made them such an easy couple to root for.

What may have started as an accidental marriage, turned into the perfect, “it’s always been you” pairing, and I loved it from start to finish.

Thank you to Evey Lyon & Wordsmith Publicity for the chance to read and review this ARC. I can’t wait for my next visit to Lake Spark, for Isla’s story!

Well I loved reading about teen Connor and Hadley in Waiting to Score so when they had become adults and this story was about them I devoured it. Their history was mixed in nostalgia and regret. The pining between then turning to hate (or pretending).

Connor is all about having a good time and playing hockey. He loves this sport and is a gifted player but he struggles to prove that he is more when his family own the team he plays for. He is always needing to be the best player.

Hadley is a dancer and owns her own dance school. She was Connor’s neighbour growing up and had a major crush. Things escalated between them but then quickly fell apart. Now they hiss scathing comments to each other while Connor is possessive when other guys try to flirt with her.

When they wake up in Vegas, accidentally married, Connor sees this as his opportunity to prove he is all in.

I just loved the way the story came about and I would read it again. The dual pov really adds depth the the story and their character development was on point. I highly recommend reading this series.

Connor and Hadley grew up next-door neighbors and despite her crush on him, Connor never gave her the time of day - except that one time. And now after one tequila filled night in Vegas they’re waking up together with rings on their hands and the paperwork to back them up. But instead of getting their marriage annulled, they decide to stick it out for a while to help Connor’s image and Hadley agrees thinking she may get the upper hand this time.

They may have gotten married by accident, but Hadley and Connor were always meant to be. With that unrequited love Hadley has been holding onto, I loved getting to see Connor put in the effort to win her over and prove that he was in it for real. There was a moment where I had lost my way a little with the origin of their rivalry, but I loved their banter and tension, and overall really enjoyed them as a couple. I loved the way that they weathered the strain in their relationship and leaned into how well they had always known each other. I will definitely be reading more in this series!
