The Museum Murders

Rate this book
When the body of a homeless woman is found in a dugout foundation of the ancient ruins of a Roman bath-house, there is little… or no investigation. Why?

The Museum Murders takes readers on a heart-pounding journey through the dark underbelly of Leicester, where nothing is as it seems. As Carlos delves into the disappearance of a young woman, he uncovers a sinister plot involving influential figures and the systematic targeting of society's most vulnerable.

Will Carlos and acting DI, Fiona Cook navigate the treacherous maze of corruption to uncover the truth before more lives are lost? With its riveting plot, complex characters, and unexpected twists, this gripping crime novel will leave readers racing to the final page.

Carlos and Fiona, assisted by his faithful friend, ex-cadaver dog, Lady, race against time to expose the truth, face his personal demons, and deliver justice for those who have been silenced.

In the background, Carlos and Fiona continue their pursuit of the criminal mastermind Nicolae and his connection to a powerful Edinburgh lawyer, who holds Fiona's brother under his spell. Threats and challenges mount as they get nearer to solving the case.

With his meticulous nature and military instincts, Carlos employs every skill at his disposal to bring a killer to justice and expose the dark underpinnings of the conspiracy.

The deeper he digs, the more dangerous the investigation becomes. How high does the conspiracy go?

Why is an homeless woman’s demise not being considered worthy of deep investigation? Carlos along with Lady and newly appointed acting DI Fiona Cook delve into this and discover a lot more underhanded business happening that powers that be are well and truly shoving under the table. All this while in search for answers regarding Nicolae ….This is truly a gripping story that has you on the edge of your seat in anticipation. Well done Dawn another surefire hit ! Great writing style, good groundwork and descriptive

We are back in Leicester for the third Carlos Jacobi PI investigation. The prologue begins where a homeless man finds a body of a female in the grounds of a museum in Leicester, not wanting to be involved he telephones 999 to report it. Then hangs up. Carlos receives a phone call from a couple who are worried about there daughter who they have not heard from in 3 weeks. He meets the parents and he begins his investigation. Carlos and Lady, his faithful companion ( a sniffer dog) teams up once again with Fiona. For those who have read any of the Rachel Prince books, Fiona is the complete opposite of Rachel, which to me is great. You do not want the different books to have the same type of character.

Fiona, is now acting DCI. Her boss is Masters and he hates Carlos - they were in the army together. Masters stood Fiona down and said he did not need her. The dead woman was identified as 'homeless' with no next of kin and was cremated almost immediately..

We follow, a long and involved investigation to its conclusion. Fiona is stood down. Masters is in his element as he does not want Carlos near the investigation. Carlos has a hunch that Masters knows more but how can he prove it?

After the conclusion and all have been arrested. There is a lovely epilogue.

This is another brilliant read in a long list of books by this author. I can recommend this book, however I had a problem with how many stars to give. I had given 5*s to the previous 2 books of Carlos, this is the best yet. So I have given it 10*s like supermarkets, they sometimes give double points !

Clever

This book took us to new highs. All the loose ends were neatly sewn in until something else came along to unthread it again! The ending was totally satisfying and finally (I hope) dealt with some long term crooks. Can't wait to see what the next book brings!

I’d read the 2 previous books in this series but, for some reason, I hadn’t read this one. It was fast paced, exciting and really enjoyable. I couldn’t put it down until I’d finished it.

Interesting Storyline Pulls You in

I enjoy Dawn Brookes cozy mysteries, and this was no exception. I know when I pick up one of her books that I need to have ‘a day off’. Once I begin reading I’m lost in the story. I think I need to get a sweatshirt that reads ‘PLEASE DON’T DISTURB! BLAME IT ON DAWN BROOKES’. I found The Museum Murders particularly interesting because the storyline was original. I found it fascinating, and happily recommend to others.
