I think you could just copy & paste my review of Martyn Ramsay’s last book ‘Revolution’ for this review as this feels very much part of the same piece!
Having said that (and stopping short of saying both books are a ‘rise & fall’ story), ‘The Pursuit Of History’ tells a very different story and the time period between the 2 books of 1992 feels like a definite turning point in hindsight. A place where Rangers turned their attentions to trying to match their biggest rivals rather than set the pace which very much characterised the late 80s and early 90s.
Again, I’ve had to put the book down on more than a few occasions to sit and watch old match highlights on YouTube (even last night where I sat and watched a few matches from the melancholic end of the 1997/1998 season).
I’ll say it again, these 2 books together are the best writing I have ever seen on Rangers Football Club and I’m so grateful that someone has taken the time to commit this incredibly story to print.
