When Mark found his life turned upside down after a series of bad decisions, he turned to caddying out of desperation. Little did he know that in his search for lost golf balls, he'd also find hope, healing, and growth. Take a journey around the course with him as he tells some of his favorite caddie tales and how they helped him navigate the worst period of his life. Caddie Tales will appeal to any golfer who has experienced the highs and lows a round of golf is sure to bring. Non-golfers will also be inspired to remember that it's not just golf balls that can be found when they seem hopelessly lost.
Golfers and non-golfers alike will enjoy this book. Written from a caddie's point of view, instead of an instructional point of view, it's the author's story of hitting bottom in his life, then finding meaning and value through a new job as a caddie.
This was a fun and insightful read! Even for a non-golfer, like me. I read this book with more deep interest and ferver than any other book I’ve read in a long, long time. I laughed and I cried at the caddie stories, cleverly written in 18-plus holes (chapters). The author lays it all out there and writes in a way that relates his life with the life of golf and a way that I could relate. His relationships and insights of the people he meets ties back to golf and to life itself. Life is a series of lessons and the author has a knack of reminding us of those lessons. This is a good read; a fast read; a read to underline, and to highlight certain parts in order to remind me of some important life-lessons. I know more about caddying than I did before, and maybe have been inspired to try my hand at golf someday.
Look, it ain't a literary masterpiece, but it came into my world on literally the darkest day of my life. It used my two favorite passions, The Lord (without ever using His name) and golf, to recast my view ahead and rebuild the hope upon which I've always tried to thrive. Mark Milatz isn't an author, he's a dude who became a pastor, which ended poorly and now he loops two to four heavy golf bags a day around one of America's great courses. The book ain't about golf, though. It's about you. It's about me. It's about tomorrow, and why, even in these catastrophically hosed up times, we can look forward to putting our peg in the ground on the next tee. Golfer? Buy it! Non-golfer facing a valley? Buy it. Hell, buy two and gift one. Contact Mark The Caddie on Twitter / X at @caddietales and do the deal directly. Bezos won't miss the cash.
Every once in awhile you find a book that you know you’re going to read many times. For me this is one of those.
This book explores the peaks and valleys of golf, and then in a big picture kind of way juxtaposes those peaks and valleys with life, relationships, and the human spirit.
I am not a golfer but really enjoyed this book. It was fun to see the connections between golf and life and trust me there are many. God works in wonderful ways….it is He who opens our eyes to all that is around us.
I loved the stories Mark shared. His insights on life and golf are insightful, inspiring and fun to read. If you like golf or have had any personal struggles, this is a fun, quick read!
This book written by a pastor turned caddie is chicken soup for the soul and a great reminder that we all need a caddie in life starting with ourselves
Lots of fun golf stories here, which was what I expected, but also a lot of golf/life analogy based on the author's recovery from some big life mistakes he made. An easy, uplifting read from a very companionable guide.
Milatz is a former pastor turned caddie, somewhat accidentally. Amid his thoughts on some of the golfers he's looped for, Milatz worked in his own stories. An interesting read.
