I have a renewed sense of understanding of my own strength. I typically don't read true stories, but I was intrigued after discovering Lisa Mia through her inspiring and moving TikTok videos. Her heart for others touched me and so did her story helping others, I had to read how she survived. What I learned after reading her masterful work of art is more about the will of the human mind to persevere. I highly recommend this book for anyone who seeks healing from their past or understanding about their own inner strength. If I could I would give this book 100 stars. For all you males out there, don't think this is just a female story, it's a book about hearts, love, commitment and resilience. You will find you can heal too.

If I was asked to write out all the characters in this book and their connections to each other, I couldn’t even begin to.

Both the biological mom and Paige’s mom were referred to as ‘mom’ and used similar phrases so I couldn’t tell who’s mom we were talking to until well into the sentence.

“Plus, I have always wanted to be black” feel like that’s something I won’t touch with a ten foot pole.

Simply not a fan of this book, it was confusingly written. The sentences just made no sense sometimes. It was so short that I felt that I had to complete it because at least I could write this review in the hopes that other people would avoid the book.

Also the unexpected amount of Christianity at the end of the book, it just took a turn I wasn’t expecting.

I couldn’t follow what was happening because of the writing style.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

I hate to write a review on someone’s life story, so these are my thoughts instead of a review;
- I saw the author post about this book and got excited to read it, but it didn’t satisfy me.
- there were points in the book where the words and sentences simply didn’t make sense
- there was no big plot twist or bam, was just the story
- the ending was weird, it just ended and didn’t make sense
- i was expecting something the author mentioned but she didn’t even add it to the book
- i do have sympathy for the characters, but i wish there was more to the book

A race towards death intercepted and transcended by a love that could not be derailed. The series of horrific events that led to an active pursuit to extinguish her own life derailed by one young man that accepted and understood the motivation. In a series of flashbacks presented as vignettes, connected with captivating dialogue, the reader will understand what Rob perceived in an instant. The "monster in the closet" lives next door. Dare to read it.

I usually don’t rate books people write about themselves. How can you judge a person’s life. But this book really touched me. I’ve been in similar situations, so it’s always good to hear from people who had the same experiences.

I DNFed this book because it was so bad. I know this author has some controversy with her deceased husband, whom this book is about. Looking past all that, it's still garbage. I didn't get very far because of the writing style—she has a very distinct voice, and not in a good way. It reads like a teenager trying to be edgy. It's supposed to be a touching retelling of how she met her now deceased husband, yet it focuses more on how much of an angsty teen she was; it isn't a bad thing, but it's not very entertaining reading about a comically suicidal teen being set to a psych ward pretending to be some Hispanic grandma's daughter, only to find her sweet Romeo. I will note that it has been a while since I read it, though, mainly because of the abysmal writing.

This is a truly inspiring piece with evidence to prove how humanity can improve and develop ourselves. The story gives strength to the beautiful Rob, who changed an important life with his simple words. All the happenings occur and are told in order to share the beauty and the truth. Understanding others is hard for most, willing to share your side is just as difficult and for this book to be made is a blessing for those who are waiting and wanting to be saved, understood and loved. Thank you, Lisa. Thank you for giving us your power and sharing your strength. I will persevere.

This book is a perfect example of a survivor discovering their reason to persevere. Lisa Mia gives us perspective into her tumultuous teenage mind as she attempts to discover her life purpose, her writing style making it easy to understand how her thought process and reactions came into play.
It's easy to see that this book is just the beginning of her story, the tip of the iceberg if you will. I excitedly anticipate the rest of what she has to share with us about herself and that lovely Rob.

I’ll never write a book in this wheelhouse anything other than 5 stars. When reading someone’s life story they so bravely put into words out to the entire world, you cannot expect the best written book. The courage it takes to write something like this & bare out all your trauma to just hopefully help someone else is nothing short of the peak of admirable. Thank you for sharing your story Lisa, and thank you for living.

I have read this book 3 times now and plan to read it again just before the sequel comes out! The story of how Lisa met Rob is such a heart warming and amazing one. Each word read leads you to want to read more and more. Throughout this book I laughed, cried, and felt every emotion possible. I recommend this book to literally everyone.

I was not sure this was my sort of book, because I'm more of a mystery novel fan! But I got caught up in the beautiful narration of a young woman fighting for her life and love. I rode the lovely passages all the way to the perfectly powerful and poignant ending. I hope there's a sequel that will show the heroine continuing her journey!

A good Phycology read, about a girl losing her mind and at the end of her rope. I don't recommend for novice or beginner readers under 13 which could confuse them but highly recommend to moderate and avid readers over 13. Hope this helps 👍

Really enjoyed this read. The fact that this was a memoir is just heartbreaking but inspiring. It showed true strength in what someone so young can overcome.

Inspirational. This woman has such a beautiful strong soul and I’m so glad I found her book. It made me not feel so alone.

Also, anyone writing hateful comments in these reviews are trolls and throwing hate for no reason. This book is nothing but helpful to people. Maybe not everyone but so many people.
