Beautiful perspective
Very timely book. It puts our current crises in the Church in perspective with respect to her past. I found it very well written with great advice and hope in perseverance.

"Persecuted from Within: How the Saints Endured Crises in the Church," took me by complete surprise. Initially, I expected to read something that was perhaps a bit on the dry side, but I was pleasantly surprised at how engaging it was.
Joshua Charles and Alex Torres do an outstanding job of ordering the Lives of the Saints who were persecuted either by their religious orders or the Church hierarchy. They start with Jesus, Himself, Saint Paul and then journey forward to modern times with the Venerable Fulton Sheen and Saint Padre Pio; What these poor souls suffered! The stories were so interesting and I was happy to learn about the life of Saint Mary MacKillop (the first Australian Saint), Saint Alphonsus Ligouri, and Saint Teresa of Avila - all so courageous in the face of adversity.
The last chapter summarizes what true obedience looks like in light of these Saints and how they provide an example for the times in which we currently live.
