I heard the stories about Savage Ax. They're whispered among vampires everywhere in the Hidden Realm.
He's dangerous, merciless, a predator even among monsters...but nobody told me that he was dangerously sexy, too.
Now, on top of having to go searching for a vampire out there in the human world infested with sorcerers, I have to do it with him by my side.
Handling Savage Ax didn't seem like a big deal—despite his looks, our covens are sworn enemies. Despite his reputation, I have the green light to get rid of him if needed. And it's all fun and games, empty threats and dirty words at first...
But there's a spark of madness in his eyes that draws me in. Something about the way he takes what he wants, even from me, and gives no explanation in return. Something about the rough touch of his hand that melts all the ice I've spent years layering around me.
The farther away from home we go, the easier it gets to forget who he is. Who I am. Where we are.
And that's exactly where my real troubles will begin...
Some things I liked: - the premise. Vampires have to stay behind this magical wall because the sorcerers & Vein spirits attack them & because there’s some history there that is briefly mentioned (don’t ask I actually remember & it was vague, lots of fighting, everyone would have died) and our main two vamps have to go out into the human realm to grab another vampire that’s not supposed to be out there. They have to fight basically everyone to get to there including other vampire covens. And there’s a surprise that we learn about our main gal Nikki & the vampire they are tasked to bring back. It’s a cool premise and keeps the story moving forward - it’s very spicy 🌶️
Some things I didn’t like: - I felt the world building was a little lacking. I wish I knew more about the covens, why do they all hate each other? And why is Ax’s coven the #1 rival of Nikki’s? And how does mating work? What are Vein spirits? I get that they are pure energy but like what are they? How do they come about? What is the magic system? I think we really have to rely on this being urban fantasy because the fantasy part didn’t seem fully built out to me - I don’t understand why Nikki & Ax hate each other so much. And this goes back to the world building. - Ax kept calling Nikki a slut. I don’t like it & it kept rubbing me the wrong way. Also not going to lie, this is really influencing my rating. Every time it happened, it took me away from the story.
I don’t think I will be moving on to the next books.

Axel Creed is known as a psychotic killer, Nikki (Damsel) has a beast inside her she tamed with alcohol. They’re sworn enemies from different vampire covens but what happens when they’re superiors send them on a person finding mission in the human realm?
✨ “What do you do with your days, then?” “I eat. I torture. I fuck. Not necessarily in that order.”✨
I thoroughly enjoyed this first book, my heart is all Axels as he falls hard and fast for Nikki who’s constantly putting the brakes on and keeping it sex only. I absolutely love this role reversal. But if she thinks keeping it casual means he’ll allow another man to touch her now, well, she’s hand delivered a bloody jacket as fair warning.
This had so much steam I needed a fan, but the secondary characters and plot were well developed too.
My one peeve (spoiler alert) after thinking about it is this: WHY doesn’t Damsel let Ax know she’s alive at the end?!
So excited to dive into Book 2 and watch Axel go psycho as he thinks he’s lost his Damsel.
Editing: there’s a little too much hissing and spitting but it’s overlooked as a minor editing issue, this continues in the next book.
So it was a fast read and the sex scenes were steamy but I didn’t feel the chemistry between them nor did I get the hatred, i mean if there was some info about wars erupting between covens or delving deep into portraying the hatred and the animosity i could get it
This was definitely a good start to this series! I loved every second of it. It was so hard to put down and do what I needed to get done, like eat and sleep. I would’ve loved to have more Ax POVS, but we don’t always get what we want. Just like I want them both to finally just admit that they mean more to each than just the benefits. I’m excited to start the second book, but I’m also scared of what is to come.
I wonder what took me so long to read this because this was really good. I liked how it was steamy, funny and sometimes even a bit psychotic. The whole vampire thing going on was great and it just added more detail to the situation. Ax was a bit out of his mind, and his Damsel as well and I truly hope things work out between them because they are a hot couple.
This is a dark vampire romance which i found exceeded my expectations. The guy falls first btw so 😁Definitelyy reading the 2nd book soon!
This book had me hooked. I loved every minute that Nikki & Ax were together. Their connection can’t be denied. I love a good vampire story and this was amazing. Great characters with a great story. I can’t wait too read the next book especially how this book ended.

This was a compelling story of two very broken people in a stressful situation. A LOT of adult content and enemies to lovers kind of storyline. A bit of a cliffhanger ending. But I have to say I was intrigued.
This book was a really fun read! I enjoyed the main characters more than I initially thought I would. The writing was easy and had a pretty good flow to it. I do feel that we could have had more details other then just knowing that the vampire realms were the same as the humans. I'm excited to dive into the 2nd book!
We love a fantasy series where the FMC is a grown woman over the age of thirty. (Instead of the typical FMC age of 19, because romance authors think adding a year is less skeevy than an 18 year old.)
I am hooked and couldn't put it down..Hoping there will be more world building in the next book.
I liked it ok. It had an interesting plot and two crazy dark people who fall in love. But the ending made me roll my eyes. And then I read the description in the next two books and it just seems tedious. Meh.
More spicy scenes than there is a story. Felt forced, and the romance of the story felt rushed and limited. The bones of the story are good, just wanted more for background and character development. Also, Flinch: to draw back or shrink, as from what is dangerous, difficult, or unpleasant. No one flinches repeatedly during a simple conversation. Someone may cringe, wince, make a face, etc-all better uses than flinch. Picturing tough vampires flinching repeatedly while talking really did not fit.
This book was good from the very first start. Even when the dialect dies down it always something around the corner. The book takes you on a rollercoaster but it’s a great ride !!
Quick read. I like the spice. I hated the fact he always calls her Damsel and never by her name. Won’t be reading the next books because the world building wasn’t that great
(I received this title as an ARC. All opinions are mine and freely given.)
Savage Ax is a split POV that follows both Savage and Nikki Arelle, vampires from rival covens. They're sent out on a mission together, which is really a race against all the other rival covens to retrieve someone deemed important enough to actually team them up.
Both Savage and Nikki have reputations for being.. well.. disreputable. Savage for brutality and Nikki for losing control. Neither of them are exactly people persons, so it's no surprise that they don't hit it off well.
Overall, the story isn't that substantial, but of course that's not what I read it for and I'm assuming the same for the average reader who'd pick up this book from its blurb. It does still make steady progress over the course of the few days the pair are out in the human world together. The fight scenes are perhaps a little overdone, making them somewhat difficult to conceive. Probably what seemed really clear in the author's mind, just doesn't transfer to page as well.. and that's not uncommon.. but it's also not super important here.
The character development is good enough considering the type of book it is. Neither character is exactly deep, but they do both have a nice (if brief) backstory. Savage's is the kind of backstory that could really dig into the reader with some time spent on it and he IS hot. All the little things are there in his nature and in the way he interacts with Nikki.
Spicy scenes are well-placed and sprinkled throughout the book, they do not take up all the space leaving no room for story. Personally, I found the beginnings of them to be the best.. the lead-ups were great.. his darker tastes on full display, but then they'd sort of plateau. Again, not uncommon. I find most authors in the genre don't want to go too far, or don't quite know how to. Either way, it's more than enough to pacify the general smut fan.
All in all, it was a quick, easy read. Savage was a lot of fun, even when dealing with enemies and Nikki wasn't bad either. Better than the average MC.
Nikki Arella is a vampire, and like all of her kind she lives in the Hidden Realm. The leaders of her coven have given her an assignment she can’t refuse. Go to the human world to retrieve a vampire living there, and she gets a partner, a member of the Sangria coven. Alex Creed, Savage Ax, is not happy about being sent to the human realm, which has way too many sorcerers who protect humans, and they won’t hesitate to kill vampires, and he has to take a partner who just happens to be a member of the Redwood coven. They were each told to work together to find the rogue vampire in the human world, and that there would be no backlash if they just happen to “dispose” of the partner neither of them wants. What no one could have predicted was that two, maybe more than just a little crazy vampires would find a deeper connection than they had ever felt for anyone else.
I adored Nikki and Axel. Just like all the characters they’re well written and unique. Their interactions are steamy, sometimes violent, but always utterly fascinating. Exciting action, magic, plenty of unexpected twists, and bloody violence made it impossible for me to put this book down. Great world building in a must-read dark vampire romance. I highly recommend this book.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
Decently spicy, insta-lust urban fantasy with enemies to lovers vampires. Nikki drinks daily and is a soldier to one of the vampire covens in the Hidden Realm. She is sent on a mission to find a person in the human world and paired with a rival coven’s notorious torturer, Savage Ax. Nikki has a secret that Ax is determined to find out, though, as they make their way across the country.
This is definitely a book for those who enjoy KF Breene’s DDVN series or Demi-God of San Francisco series. Nikki is smart mouthed and Ax is a maniacal killer with eyes only for her. This is definitely spicier than those series though.
The story was good, but a little predictable and there wasn’t much tension for me in either the romance or action plots. The stakes just weren’t very high for Nikki or Ax so it was difficult to care too much about their mysterious adventure and the relationship wasn’t forbidden for any real reason than Nikki had a broken heart.
Overall, I’d recommend it for someone looking for urban fantasy with a spice level of 3+ scenes of detailed smut and some of the favorite tropes.
Savage Ax is an enemies to lovers trope where he falls first.
The build between world of the Realm and the human world were established easily and quick. As Nikki and Axel go on their mission to retrieve a vampire. Axel has quite the reputation at being a psycho killer, while Nikki has hidden powers, but would rather numb herself with alcohol. Though when the banter becomes physical there is more than just sexual needs. Nikki begins to face some truths into her past.
I did enjoy majority of the story and felt like this book produce as an introduction to the world rather than a major part of the story. I didn't feel as if I was learning much other than how hot and heavy these two were for each other. Near the end, the author uncovered some truths as to why the vampire they were bring back to the realm was important. While ending it in a rather upended way. Do I want to find out? Yes. Though, I'm not itching to dive into the second book right way.
The Book Has: Dual POV (Point of View) Two Psychos Enemies to Lovers Trope He Falls First Trope Vampire, Human and Sorcery Cliffhanger
This is the second worst book I have ever read. There was an insane amount of "edgy" clichès in this book, I got a headache from how many times I rolled my eyes. The entire plot was so predictable from the very begining, the backstory of the characters was only introduced in LITERALLY the third last chapter of the book. The writer also clearly thinks her audience is extremely stupid and have the memory of a goldfish because the exposition/characters flaws was repeated in nearly every chapter. And to add onto that the pacing was atrocious, I got whiplash from how fast the characters feelings changed for each other. One page they hated each other and literally the next they suddenly couldn't get enough of each other. There is no other way to describe the writing of the sex scenes/sexual tension in the book than distasteful and so aggressively vulgar. It was basically a porno with a sprinkling of a plot between the sex scenes. There are so few times that I say I hate a book but I truly HAAAAAATE this monstrosity of writing.
This is a psycho (MMC) meets feral drunk alley cat (MFC) vampire romance. They don't really like each other to start but find the other attractive and competent in violence which leads to ongoing spice that eventually culminates in feelings.
Pacing and plot reminds me of a tv series which makes for an easy read.
For edits... I don't know if English is the author's first language but there are some odd English choices. Fisting someone in the face vs punching them. Fisting isn't really used in that way. Last morning is another that seemed odd in it's usage. The author also liked 2 am as a plot point. It was one of those things that stood out as an odd choice. While traveling on a time sensitive mission why would you start winding down at 2 am?
Overall the story was entertaining but there were moments of wtf.
This book was not, in any form, what I went in expecting to read. I'm not even sure what I thought it was honestly, but I'm glad I read it anyway. It was a very pleasant surprise!
This is a paranormal enemies to semi-lovers read that takes us across worlds with a dastardly duo notorious for their misdeeds. They're paired up against the odds with a mission that's not only their own, but also that of their enemies. They travel together with one goal in mind, and maybe a little bonus material.
I like that this book was a little bit learn as you go, we weren't just thrown into this bookiverse with it's unique meat and guts and zero clues, we get the nitty gritty as we go. I was pulled in pretty quickly and definitely curious as to other books by Hoxa. I'll continue to read this series for sure.
This was an enemies to lovers with so much action and the best story!
I loved the set up of vampires living in a realm separated from humans and sorcerers. I enjoyed the fact that it was sorcerer against vampire in this and humans were basically clueless.
Ax and Nikki were gasoline and fire from the moment they met. I loved the tension that thrums between them and how their nature as vampires plays into this. I liked that Nikki was willing to try and find a calm way to resolve a confrontation with sorcerers whereas Ax had no issues rilling our hearts.
The ending is a bit of a cliffhanger but it sets up book 2 beautifully, which I am now starting!! You will get sucked into this book and not be able to put it down!
More 3.5 stars. Despite the fact that the FMC was a walking cliche, with her school girl mini skirt and crop tops at the age of 35, and the MMC was more crazy than savage this book wasn’t a complete dud. Nikki is a vampire who uses booze to drown out the monster inside of her and Ax is a vampire from a rival clan who motto is kill first ask questions later. They are teamed up to bring back a vampire from the human world to the hidden realm. Of course there is the attraction between the two main characters which they give into, quite a few explicit scenes, but Nikki fights the real feelings she is beginning to have for Ax.
All in all the book was readable and I’ll probably read book 2 in the series one day.
