Vendetta Duet #2

Silent Vendetta

Rate this book
LUNA
I just uncovered the secret identity of the Vigilante.
Now, he holds me prisoner in his vault of vengeance.
And nothing is as it seems.
Bound in this abyss of secrets and darkness,
I ache for Hunter’s warmth and light.
And vow to reclaim my freedom.
But how does one escape…
…being the obsession of a killer?

VIGILANTE
The monster inside of me always hungered for death.
But it became unhinged when men stole her from me.
I savored torturing them,
ending their lives with my serrated blade of justice.
I long for her to see the crimson on my hands as a stain of honor,
and to convince myself I’m worthy of something other than her disgust.
But what if she doesn’t embrace my darkness?
What if she becomes its most tragic casualty?

ARC REVIEW:
let’s get into this book!
easily one of my favorites for the entire year! easily. if i could rate it 10/5 stars, i would.

so this is a duet book series, with Secret Vendetta being the first, and Silent Vendetta being the second… anyone who really knows me, knows i’m obsessed with true crime, famous serial killers/crimes, etc. like literally DEEPLY invested. BUT i’m also a true hopeless romantic when it comes to books, and love almost any version of a romance book. and here we have quite literally the perfect storm. i could SCREAM!

so in book one, we have Hunter, Luna, and this Vigilante with a hidden identity. we get the build up and backstories in this book that really makes us latch on and tune in page after page… i could not put this down at all; i was racking my BRAIN trying to figure out who the Vigilante was. and as soon as i thought i had it, some else would happen and throw me off course. i’ll just say this- you’ll be shook.

but fast forward- we get left on a cliffhanger in book one. it was a good 30 seconds in between, before i was trying to race through book 2. because everything was happening and i needed to know WHAT was going on. book 2 was chaotic in the absolute best way. and then ended with literally what i imagined to be a “wink.” omggggggg.

so without giving the whole plot away- between these two books, we’ve got murders (a LOT), romance/spice, hidden identities, forced proximities, kidnappings, parents being questionably imprisoned, an unhinged vigilante tearing the city UP. it’s like criminal minds, batman, love jones, and an edgar allan poe poem wrapped into one! this book is going to stick with me for a VERY long time.

thank you soooo much to Kathy Lockheart and Valentine PR for sending me an advanced copy. i have fallen in love with this book, and can’t wait to see what’s up next 💕 Secret Vendetta and Silent Vendetta release on December 22nd- right in time for the holidays!

Why are the books you enjoyed the most the hardest to review? I feel like nothing I say will do this duet justice. 🥹

5⭐️ is simply not enough. Their love, their lives (both separately and together).. I have no words. The epilogue was so stinkin beautiful. I loved these two so much. 🥰

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Kathy has this way with words. She sucks you into the story and has you feeling so much. I laughed, I cried, I was infuriated.. just wow!

I could read this again in a heartbeat. This is an author that I will read literally anything she writes, no question about it. I’m forever a fan.

Hunter and Luna are so perfect together and have been through so much. Everything they went thru just made them stronger! I devoured this book!!

The spice in the duet was 🥵🥵. These were my first Kathy Lockheart books and I can’t wait for more!!

ARC BOOK REVIEW

Silent Vendetta is the 2nd part of The Vendetta Duet. The book is dual pov and picks back up from the cliffhanger that the first book ends on.

I had no idea how this book would play out at all. We ended the first book with Luna just finding out the identity of The Vigilante, who then keeps her hostage in his lair for quite some time to try and convince her not to tell people the truth.

This book was full of so many plot twists that I never saw coming throughout the two books. The spice was on point even when I was unsure about what was happening with the plot. The truth behind everything finally gets revealed through this book, we learn what happened to cause Hunter's father getting murdered when he was a boy and why Luna's dad was in prison for a crime he did not commit 20 years ago.

The characters in this book developed so well, and I loved reading all about them. Seeing the growth between Luna and Hunter, regardless of all of the things that were thrown their way, was quite encouraging against all odds. I would say one part of this duet that spans across both books is where Luna has flashbacks to her memories with her father until he was sent to prison. There was so much emotion that I couldn't help but grieve with these characters as of how realistic it all felt.

Overall, I loved this duet so much, I loved the aspects of crime, spice, and everything worked so perfectly together that the plot just flowed and flowed. I really feel like I need more from Luna and Hunter and I loved the way they ended up in the end and seeing Hunter as a dad was like nothing I ever expected and I need to know what would happen right after that ending, would true nature's be looked back on for the sake of family?

Thoughts 💭
So, after reading the 1st book and the cliffhanger, I knew this was going to be good.

This one took me a little more time to get into as I went straight into the next book, but I think its due to not having time to read. But once I got to a certain point, I couldn’t put it down. I absolutely loved this.

Honestly, I felt like it was better than the first one, more tension and drama. There was so much twist and turns, that had me shocked. I know I have read but might buy the books. 🤔

I feel in love with characters a lot more in this book. The pure connection between the two of them and how protective. Hunters protectiveness was a 100% more amazing. I loved it.

In my opinion I think the ending was great, It was so perfect and that extended epilogue. God, I want more.

I can’t wait for Graysons story 😱😱

Ps: I even got my nan interested in buying the books 😂

Omg the twist and turns in this book still has my head spinning. Let's not forget the emotional rollercoaster I was just put through. I was really going from frustrated, to swooning, to nervous to dying laughing😭

I was worried how this book was gonna go bc of the how first one ended and it truly took a couple of turns I wouldn't have even guessed. First of all my girl Luna needs to have some bed rest for a month like girly was getting hurt every other chapter. She was such a strong determined person bc she didn't let ANYTHING stop her from her goals. She did get me annoyed at the beginning bc she was fighting hunter so much. Like this man would do anything for you just let him do it and look the other way you know. I honestly felt so bad for her I almost cried. I'm glad she found her happy ending.

Hunter is everything I want in a partner. This man is the perfect mix of sweet and lethal. He would do anything in his power to keep the people he loves safe whether that legal or not doesn't matter to him. Im glad they found each other bc I cant see them with anyone else they are just perfect for one another.

Now the one that stole the show was Grayson, Hunters brother. I NEED more of him. Overall the book was really good definitely a book I finished in a couple of hours bc of how invested I was.

Thanks to @kathy_lockheart and @valentine_pr_ for the ARC copies.

Luna Payne lived her whole life to demonstrate that her dad, who is in prison, is innocent.

Hunter Lockwood lived his life to get revenge on who killed his father.

Their story is passionate and I loved how protective Hunter was towards Luna. He cherished her in a way I saw only few times.

I was not ready to let them go but their story is so worth it.

The plot twists aren’t obvious at all and I loved how they were discovered.

This duology left me in suspense until the very end.

Can’t wait to read other books by this author.

I didn’t expect this story to go the way it did. The abandonment issues that Hunter was facing were extraordinary, but also understandable. I believe that Luna wanted to give him a chance even though she was conflicted because of her morals and what she believed in. The romance between them was even stronger in this story. And I believe that they are soulmates. Drawn to each other’s darkness. And I need to schedule an appointment with a psychologist because why did I find so romantic when he said that he would unalive someone for her? My heart absolutely broke for Luna and Hunter because of all the revelations. This story does have a happy ending because both of them DESERVED IT. And fyi Grayson is amazing and I need his book like NOW.

Where the first book got you hooked, this book got you ENGROSSED.

The twists, the turns, the spicy scenes!!
I would do anything for Hunter, and i just want him to do anything for me like he would for Luna.

It also leads you into even more books which of course we love. I cannot wait to read about Grayson bc i just know he’s gonna be my man in my head.

Kathy you did your thing with this one! My jaw dropped so many times!!

This was an incredible conclusion to this duet, and we picked up where we left off in book 1, learning who the vigilante was. This book was still packed full of suspense and was just as hard to put down as the first book was. I loved how it both books kept you on your toes until the end, and how easy they read. This duet was so much fun, and I would highly recommend it.

Silent Vendetta by Kathy Lockheart is book Two in the Vendetta Duet. This continues the story of Hunter Lockwood and Luna Payne. This book should be read after the previous book 'Secret Vendetta'.
This book picks up where we left off with Luna learning who the 'The Vigilante' is. Along with that she is still working to free her father. Hunter is feeling his work falling apart but at the same time is getting closer to his goal of finding who killed his father. This was a page turning Duet!

Second part of the Vendetta duet…does not disappoint!
Now that Luna knows who the vigilante is, how will she handle it? Will she turn this person in to the police? She is very undecided.
While the mob family issue is coming to a close, thanks to the vigilante, Luna still struggles with her decision.
She understands the reason behind the vigilantes killings but having a hard time coming to terms with it.
Next step? Researching her dads case and getting it to re-trial. She knows her dad is innocent and he’s suffered for 20 years in jail. Surprising when the decision by the courts is made and the results after that. Who was responsible for her dad being locked up all these years and why her dad? Wrong place at the wrong time? And what about her new love/relationship with Hunter? Will it survive all the drama and killings going on around them?

I’m at a loss for words at how much I loved this book. The Vigilante identity was definitely unexpected and absolutely not who I thought. You get to see Luna and Hunter’s relationship go through hardships and be tested constantly. You also get answers to most of the questions asked during both books. Once again those answers were completely unexpected and will totally surprise you. The ending was so good and honestly I didn’t want the series to end. I look forward to more books from the side characters POV to learn their stories. Overall the entire series was a FIVE star read for me. I will definitely be reading it again.

Kathy Lockhart is truly one of my favorite authors and I will read literally anything she writes. Thank you for allowing me to receive ARC copies of both of these fantastic books. I can not wait to see what’s next.

READ YOUR TRIGGER WARNINGS ⚠️ ⚠️⚠️

This book. Woooweee. The spice, the twists and turns, and everything in between. Oh my...
Silent Vendetta..
There are not a whole lot of books that keep me as involved as this one did.
Hunter and Luna are in for a roller-coaster of a ride in this sequel.
Luna herself has to deal with and also try to come to terms with things in her past and present.
There is going to be a lot of sorrow and pain for her. Will Hunter be able to help?

Hunter is not a man to be messed with in or out of a courtroom. He has skills above and beyond what might even scare the mortal man. He loves Luna and would do EVERYTHING for her. I mean anything. At the end of it all.. Will she be able to look past it?

Will we see....

Will it keep Luna from recognizing what she loves most or will it hurt both of them in the end?

Kathy Lockheart is one heck of an amazing author and writer. She knows her stuff and keeps you coming back for more

Grayson's story is coming soon. I can't wait.

With Luna aware of Hunter's secret identity the shit has hit the fan and naturally she's feeling betrayed and shocked at what the man she has fallen for has been hiding from her. To be honest I was a tad disappointed in her initial reaction and her complete lack of any other narrative other than her own. She decides that Hunter is a monster and little else registers. Never mind the fact of how he's rescued her over and over again, Franco deserved his fate but not according to Luna. This did irritate me about her, yeh I know it was a shock but Hunter is still the same man who bloody adores her, I mean he will literally kill to keep her safe and in her little bubble, he's just a little more stabby than most and she's really ok with him maybe going to prison for the rest of his life, not very grateful in my opinion.

Hunter, I adored him, he just wants Luna to love him for who he is, there's such a sense of vulnerability to him that just gets to me, the way he doesn't believe he deserves any love was tragic and I just wanted Luna to give him a big hug and reassure him, which newsflash she didn't do for a while. When Luna finally saw the light I was sad at the journey and lessons she had to experience to arrive at this crossroads. She finally gets it and sometimes it takes a severe loss and to walk a day in someone else shoes to have this grand epiphany.

I also had my suspicions regarding the identity of the villain and believed they may be the same so I'm intrigued to discover if my musings are on the mark in any way. (Yep I was spot on) I've enjoyed this sequel massively this duet is well-written and an easy read. I love Luna and Hunter as a couple. and they were very easy to root for.

An incredible conclusion to a fantastic and fascinating duet! The storyline is addictive and compelling, with shocking surprises unfolding at a fast-pace which will keep you staying up well past your bedtime to read just a few more chapters.

The first book ended with the surprising unveiling of the vigilante, and even knowing who the why and how are left to be discovered in this second book of the duet. The suspend doesn’t let up until the very end.

I live Kathy’s writing and I’m eager for more Grayson Lockwood and the mystery surrounding him and his disappearances and unexpected skills.

Silent Vendetta by Kathy Lockheart, is the second and final book of the Duet Vendetta, we pick up the story right where we left it, with Luna discovering who was hiding behind the Vigilante's mask. Now she finds herself doubting everything she thought she knew, for her the man in front of her is a total stranger, and inside her a war is taking place between feelings and reason. For Hunter, it's time for Luna to know his whole story and maybe, just maybe, she can understand him and leave what has happened behind her and give their relationship a chance. But nothing will be easy.
If you thought that this was going to be a simple ending, you are wrong, the author takes us on an even more eventful journey than the previous one but I know that you will enjoy each of its turns, I most certainly did. Thank goodness I was able to read one book after another because to be honest I couldn't wait to see what would happen. Luna is a strong protagonist and determined to fight for what she believes is right. Hunter is a character haunted by the ghosts of his past, although he may not seem like it, and we can see that he is not the only one of the Lockwood brothers who keeps secrets. I already want more from this author and that little teaser has me looking forward to Grayson's story that hopefully will be arriving soon. This is definitely a story you shouldn't pass up. Absolutely and Totally Highly Recommended!
*Thanks to Kathy Lockheart and Valentine PR & Literary Management for my ARC. I voluntarily leave my honest review*

Absolutamente y Totalmente Altamente Recomendada!

4.5 stars-SILENT VENDETTA is the second instalment in Kathy Lockheart’s contemporary, adult VENDETTA dark, erotic, romance duet . This is the continuing story of prosecutor Hunter Lockwood, and defense attorney Luna Payne. SILENT VENDETTA should not be read as a stand alone as it picks up after the events of book one SECRET VENDETTA. For fans of Lockheart's writing, there is a slight cross-over with the author's SECRETS AND THE CITY series.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Hunter, Luna ) SILENT VENDETTA follows in the of Luna’s discovery of the real identity of the person known as The Vigilante. Chicago’s crime scene has been aided by a person cleaning up when law enforcement fail to do their jobs but Luna is about to discover the identification of the person, a person who takes our heroine prisoner in the face of another betrayal. As Luna struggles with the who and why, our couple continue to search for the truth behind the murder of Hunter’s father, and the unlawful imprisonment of Luna’s dad. As Luna and Hunter begin to unravel the truth, lives will be lost, and our couple must face the possibility that everything they thought they knew, has been a lie.

The world building continues to focus on the building but slowly fracturing relationship between our story line couple. Luna is determined to prove her father’s innocence but in doing so has rattled the proverbial chains of some powerful people. As Hunter’s private investigator discovers a few anomalies about the circumstances surrounding his father’s death, our hero begins a spiral from which he may not come back.

The relationship between Luna and Hunter continues to grow but secrets and lies threaten any possibility of a happily ever after. Hunter’s own secrets reveal a dark and troubled life, while Luna is forced to face a life without the men that she loves. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

Once again, we are reintroduced to Hunter’s brother Grayson, whose own secrets are dangerous and dark; as well as Luna’s father Richard Payne, Hunter’s brother, Grayson, their uncle Alexander; Luna’s best friend Sean, Detective Rinaldi, several security specialists, and private investigator Barry Mansfield. The requisite evil has many faces.

SILENT VENDETTA is a story of secret and lies, power and control, betrayal and vengeance, forgiveness, acceptance and love. The premise is revealing, dark, and dramatic; the romance is impassioned; the characters are broken, desperate and struggling to heal.

✨ “I’ve killed fifty-three men. But I’ve never savored killing a man as much as I’ll savor draining the blood from the person who ordered your death.”

✨ “I don’t deserve you, but it doesn’t change the fact that I’d burn the world down for you.”

✨ “I’ll kill anyone who even whispers a threat against you”

I usually give each book their own review, but this duet just needed one overall review.

If you have read the Mindf*ck Series and loved it - you will love this duet 👏🏼

If you haven’t read any Kathy Lockheart books, you’re missing out. I’ve read all of them and every single one is sooo good. (warning: you’ll lose sleep, but it’s worth it)

Every time you think you have these books figured out, there’s a twist you won’t expect. I would think I had it figured out, then I didn’t. I thought I knew who the vigilante is, then second guessed it and changed my mind.

Defense attorney, Luna, has made it her life’s mission to prove her dad is innocent and get him out of prison, where he has spent two decades, for a crime she believes he didn’t commit.

Not everyone wants him out though. Someone is threatening her life and warns her if she doesn’t let it go she will pay the consequences. But, she doesn’t care. And now she’s in danger.

Until he shows up.

The whole city is trying uncover the vigilantes true identity. But, he’s always one step ahead. Law enforcement want him caught and sent to prison for the rest of his life. The vigilante isn’t killing innocent people though, he’s just trying to get justice when criminals are sent free. The whole city is scared of him, including Luna.

Until he shows up to save her and protect her. How did he know? Luna than realizes he is stalking her. Will he eventually kill her too, or does he truly want to protect her? And if he wants to protect her, why?

Who is he?
Has she met him before?
How does he know her?

And the she finds out who he is.

Too Flowery

I’m putting this same review on both books in the Vendetta Duet. These books are fairly well written for a free KU “dark” romance, but have a few issues that prevented me from enjoying them. I didn’t particularly want to finish either book, but I made myself keep going.
The characters do have some depth and do experience growth, but Luna especially is basically a checklist of clichés: too hung up on her past to succeed in her goals without help from a psychotic billionaire, too emotional to pay attention to giant red flags, make smart decisions, or consider input from the people trying to keep her alive, too self righteous to be a supportive partner to her imperfect man, and so obstinate that she would jump blindfolded and bound into a pit of of jackals just to prove that she’s an independent woman who can take care of herself.
The writing itself is often redundant and overly descriptive. It almost reads like the author tried out several different ways to describe a character’s thoughts or feelings, but forgot to pick one and discard the rest. I don’t need 5 analogies per scene to understand that someone is experiencing love, fear, grief, etc. The story could have been much shorter and more engaging if I wasn’t slogging through page after page of Luna’s flowery thoughts and emotions.
The plot is interesting but not challenging. The primary villain is easily identified the first time he’s mentioned. A lot of the drama is forced. It’s hard to have patience with Hunter’s and Luna’s poor choices concerning safety when the consequences can be spotted a mile away.
The spicy scenes are the only parts where descriptions are lacking. I’m used to reading a description of an act, the sensation caused, then the reaction. This author describes the act and the reaction, but there’s no description of sensation in the spicy scenes, which left me unable to connect with the characters during these scenes. It was disappointing because they had great potential.
I did enjoy some of the more violent scenes in spite of the interruptions of more paragraphs of emotions.

What a freaking intense! This book keeps my toes on the edge. It was a nerve-wracking reading experience from the start to end it. I really enjoyed it and if I have all the time I wouldn't put this down and finish it in one day.. anyway, I loved how the book 2 started. It's frustrating, angsty and very emotional. Luna discovered Hunter's biggest secret; Hunter and Vigilante is one person. I felt so sad for them specially Hunter. He wanted nothing but to punish those who hurt Luna in a horrific bloody way. He also intended to tell her about his secret but it was too late.. Their confrontation is so sad. I can't blame Luna. Because her whole life she's fighting the innocence of her father. He was accused of a murder that was false.

Very shocking twists and turns. Also the revelation of everything is a jaw dropping. Who's who? And who started all the chaos in their lives. I appreciated the author keeps on letting us guess from the beginning up to the plot twist. She gives us little details that makes us eager to finish the book immediately. At first, I thought I guessed it right the real culprit.. I did not expect the whole scenario between Luna's father false accusations has connection with Hunter's father death and of course the culprit (His uncle). That's was a mind blowing 🤯 revelation.. lol!

I also loved that at the end of the day, Luna still loved him so much. She keeps silent about Hunter's darkest side and trusted him to work together for her father's case. But it was too sad that she witnessed her father's death in the court. Because of that Luna understood Hunter's situation when his father killed in front of him.

The ending was so so frustrating.. Luna and Hunter faced his uncle and fought him. Luna set aside her morals and she vows to save Hunter from police or jail. She was so brave and determined enough to come up with a story to save Hunter.

I am also so happy with the epilogue. Hunter's P.O.V. they have a child and got married.

"When find someone you love. You're gladly give up your old habits. Like murdering people." But nah nah.. After conversation with his daughter he's not. Lol

After book one left me reeling, I had to immediately jump into Silent Vendetta. It begins right where book one leaves off and we are plunging into the deep end from the start.

The first 6 or so chapters made me very nervous. I honestly didn't know what the MMCs were going to do and I was gripping my seat as the scene unfolded. It's been a long time since I was that uncertain about the trajectory of a storyline. My only compliant about the beginning of the book is more of a formatting issues, so this might be a gripe to the editing more than anything. The first 6 chapters could have been 1, maybe 2 chapters. They were all relatively short, all in the FMC's POV, and they all chained together for one long scene. It was like an overdramatic punctuation to a thought or single action within the scene that would end a chapter, and then the next picked right back up. It ended up making the story feel a bit choppy.

I can't review my thoughts about the book without spoilers so......proceed at your own cost...

I LOVED that it took Luna time to accept the dark side of Hunter. I loved her struggle and her journey towards that acceptance and seeing her grow as a character in those moments. Kathy wrote her character progression beautifully and believably.

It wouldn't be necessarily unheard of for an FMC to uncover the "dark side" of the MMC, have a brief internal struggle, and then quickly accept the MMC because of their love. I really liked that Luna's first reaction was to run and fight for her life. It didn't matter that she was in love. THAT IS A SANE REACTION!

It also allowed for Hunter's own character development and ultimate personal healing. It finally allowed him to have something bigger in his life than his need for revenge and gave him the motivation to want to move on from his past. If Luna had immediately accepted him and his dark deeds, he may have continued down that path and horrible things could have happened.

All in all, I love how the story came together. I called the ultimate bad guy in book one. It's always the uncle. He was too nosy from the get-go. Loved the story, loved the character development, loved the spice. Looking forward to reading more works by this author.

✨ dark romantic suspense
✨ billionaire
✨ anti hero
✨ hidden identities
✨ touch her and die vibes

Luna Payne is a public defender dedicating her life to helping the innocent stay out of prison after seeing her father serve a life sentence for a crime he didn’t commit. When her client dies right in front of her Luna is thrown into a mess she didn’t see coming. Trying to free her father and prove his innocence may be harder than she thought when someone will do anything to keep her away. And when the cities own vigilante keeps showing up around Luna she makes it her mission to find out who he is and stop him. But what she doesn’t see coming is Hunter Lockwood and fellow prosecutor who wants nothing but to keep Luna safe through all of this and find out who murdered his father.

This duet had me on my toes for the whole thing. The romantic suspense and the way all this story was weaved together was beautifully done. I love trying to figure out who done it and who the vigilante could be. Luna was a strong and stubborn character who spent her life dedicated to finding her fathers innocent. She hasn’t let many people into her life and when Hunter barges in and won’t let her push him away she’s found an equal in someone she never thought she would have.

Apart from the suspense aspect the romance in this book had me laughing at their banter in the beginning and swooning with how much Hunter loved and cared for her. On top of that we get some top tier spice that may have your kindles light on fire. I really enjoyed getting to know Hunters brothers and excited to know that Grayson I’ll get a book. The mysterious brother helps out in this book and leaves us wanting more.

The conclusion to this story had my jaw dropping and my mind reeling to connect all the dots of this story. I love the way these two had their lives intertwined and how they made it through it together.

This was a fun anti hero, criminal minds feel of a story that I think will have you unable to put down until the very end!
