Tucked away in a small Louisiana town, Bordeaux Behavioral Hospital has cast a shadow of fear over the local community for decades. Not affected by small town folklore and superstitions, Alana Grace, a newly appointed psychiatrist at Bordeaux Behavioral Hospital, is eager for a fresh start. But as she delves into the shadows of her patient, Savannah Hargrove's troubled mind, she begins to notice disturbing patterns and connections to the hospital's long-buried secrets. Determined to understand Savannah's trauma and forge a breakthrough, Alana unwittingly embarks on an investigation into Bordeaux's shadowy legacy. But the more unsettling revelations she uncovers about the unspeakable acts that have taken place behind its fortified walls for decades, the more Alana finds her own grip on reality beginning to waver and slip into the depths of insanity. Can she maintain her grip on sanity long enough to break free from Bordeaux's clutches? Or will she be trapped in its eerie grasp forever, just another soul consumed by the horrors that prowl its dark corridors after the haunting hour? .
This novel is a true page-turner! I was so angry the entire time reading this novel! How dare they treat people this way! I’m so anxious to read book II.
Toni Larue’ does it again. From the prologue I was spooked (it don’t take much to scare me). Then as I started reading I was like, oh h311 naw !!!!! I enjoyed the plot and look forward to finishing this series.
This was a buddy read & I got left in the dust because life was lifing for me. Once I actually got into this book, I couldn’t stop reading. The way they played in Alana face from the moment she got to that hospital was insane. They better leave Trinity the hell alone! Whyyyy, why would this book end like that!?!
Favorite Quote- ““I need an escort for an Alana Grace. She’s the new shrink.” I cringed at the word shrink. The negative connotation did nothing to bridge the gap between Black people and mental health professionals.”
This book had me at the edge of my seat and wanting more! I cannot wait for book 2 to be released and hoping for book 3!❤️ The Haunting Hour should become a series! Great Job ladies!
Alana moves to Louisiana with the hopes of starting over with her new job at Bordeaux Behavioral Hospital, but the hospital starts over with her. This was an excellent psychological thriller from start to finish! The backstory behind the inception of the Bordeaux Behavioral Hospital had me balling my fists while sending a chill down my spine at the same time because, unfortunately, it sounds like something that might have happened…which is what makes this story so bone-chilling! The story is set in a town in Louisiana, outside of New Orleans, which is shrouded in chilling history and mystery that adds to the eeriness Alana experiences in her quest to uncover the hospital’s sinister, dark secrets. This tale was a suspenseful, heartbreaking, nail biting, thrill ride. I’m new to the thriller genre so I’m learning to go into these stories with steel nerves and not to expect a happily ever after, but I am having a TIME discovering talented black voices in this genre and Toni Laure is no exception! This will not be my last read from her. I recommend diving into this story and her catalog if you haven’t already!
Toni Larue Toni Larue…Sis, you did that and that dam ending was…so…surprising, and yet I find myself eagerly awaiting more. The happily ever after is gone! Chaos reigns at The Bordeaux Behavioral Hospital, where everyone seems mad except the actual patients. My mind is blown, and I can't shake off what I've just read.
I've immersed myself in the work of yet another thrilling author, and I'm impressed. The writing was exceptional, the storyline was incredibly engaging, creative, and vividly illustrated. It felt like I was watching the movie unfold in real time. If you enjoy thrillers, suspense, and psychological horror that involves murder, framing, delusions, and mental and physical imprisonment, you need to grab this book. I couldn't put it down! The hope I had was snatched away at the end, and the drama throughout was utterly wild, both literally and figuratively.
Baby!!!!!!! The ride this book to me on got me in here horse from all the dang yelling 😂. Why they do my girl like this? All Alana was trying to do was get a fresh start. She had a lil🤏🏾 tiny mishap that may have been career ruining, but Bordeaux Behavioral Hospital was like, come join the crew! So she moved from Jersey to Bordeaux to start her new life. Now listen, they was wild as heck at BBH, and Alana didn’t know how to just mind her business like they told her. 🤦🏾♀️ So many things happened and just when she thought… we’ll just read the book because listen. The entire time I’m yelling IKYFL!!!!!!!!!!
Toni Larue, you and Tanisha Stewart owe me a pack of halls and a cup of hot tea because my throat is a wreck now 😩.
I’m already reading part 2 in the series because yeah…
Title: The Haunting Hour (Book 1 of The Asylum Series) Authors: Toni Larue and Tanisha Stewart Genre: Thriller Pages: 231 Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I really enjoyed this story. I loved how the author was able to keep me engaged about the history and happenings at Bordeaux Hospital and the city. It was clear she'd done her research to make the setting and characters as authentic as possible.
However, I wished there was more of an in the depth explanation about the experiments that were taking place at the hospital. Wish there was a part 2.
Overall, this was a great short read and I look forward to more books from Toni in this genre. Definitely recommend.
This story ticked me off. I kept thinking how the rich and powerful get away with doing illegal, unethical, immoral and dehumanizing things and get away with it repeatedly. This truly was a horror story with a different realm added. The backdrop of Bordeaux, LA gave the story authenticity, as did Ms Claudette. Here's a place where you'd actually prefer going to jail than the Behavioral Hospital.
This series is going to be phenomenal!! What is it about asylum stories that suck me in? If you love American Horror Story vibes, Toni Larue does not disappoint in Book 1 The Asylum: The Haunting Hour
The author sets the atmosphere deep in Louisiana, inside one of the most notorious asylums; Bordeaux Behavioral Hospital!
I followed Alana’s journey on the edge of my seat. Toni Larue will keep you sucked in as she tells the story of eerily historical circumstances that could very well be a true story! Who knows!
What happened during the haunting hour??
I’m hooked and can’t wait to pick up the next book!
I really thought Alana would expose the hospital for the "House of Horrors" it really was and reunite mother (Savanah) and daughter. Corrine is just awful, and I can't wait to see her get knocked off her high horse. This book set the bar high, I hope the other installments are just as good. Excellent read!
I purposely avoided reading this for awhile because it felt it wouldn’t be my cup of tea. However once I picked it up I did not stop until I was done! From the beginning I was drawn in! A lot happened just on the main characters first day! This series is a must read! 5 stars!!!
Mrs. Larue' had me taking a break so I could get my heart palpitations together. The way this story unfolded had me on the edge of my seat. There's something sinister both inside and outside the walls of Bordeaux Behavorial Hospital and it starts from the top.
I need the resolution because it just can't end like that.
Alana moved go this small country town in Louisiana to start a new job at a behavioral hospital to prove to her family back in New Jersey they should could take care if herself. The first day of work ended up being the beginning to a bunch if mysterious things that everyone knows about, but refuse to speak on. I really enjoyed the book and can't sit go read book2
This story took me by surprise. I didn’t know what exactly to expect, everytime I thought I knew where the story was headed, I was wrong. Boredeux hospital is a mess child….This is a good read for those who love a good thriller.
I enjoyed the haunting hour as well. Each character portrayed a realistic persona, which made the story believable. Well written, excellent diction and grammar. Great job. Highly recommended.
The ending!!! This book let me know this entire series is going to be off-the-chain and I am totally here for it. The tension of the suspense is a level 10. The characters are so solidly written, sometimes you don't know who to trust. The ending will have you yelling "WTAF". Excited to read the rest of the books in the series.
This was a great read. A true page turner. I was hooked from the very beginning, and it kept me pulled in the whole time. If you’re looking for a solid thriller, I definitely recommend this one.
What a start. The fact that this can be both a STANDALONE and apart of a COLLAB ? Mind blown fr. Yall doing yall THANG and im R U N N I N G to start book 2!
Wow this place has some secrets they don’t want found out….
Alana is on her last leg in obtaining a job as a psychiatrist but Bordeaux Behavioral Hospital isn’t just any job offer Be careful what questions you ask and who you ask them to….you might find yourself a patient
This is an easy read full of ghosts, spirits and all things Nawlins
Literally a page turner 👏🏾👏🏾 When Alana first started working at Bordeaux hospital and she recived those pills I already knew this was about to be some sneaky mess! Miss Claudette and Larry tried telling her not to go, which I get bc she needed the job, but this hospital had so much tramatic history from there grandfather torturing people and the fact that Corrine and Fabien reopened it was wild to me. And poor Savannah Hargrove she lost her family and was tortured on the daily. I was so happy that she got off that table and went to slicing it gave me a little grin 😁 LOL!
