Sure that life outside his little hutch is lots more fun, young William the guinea pig decides to take up Stella the squirrel's invitation to come out and play, but he soon discovers that the woods are scary and squirrels unreliable.
Geez louise, what a message. Don't take risks, don't get out of your comfort zone, and don't trust people different from you. Did not care for this one at all.
The title of this says it all: never trust a squirrel. It teaches intolerance since a little badger plays with a lady squirrel who leads him outside of his comfort zone and gets lost, so his mom urges him to never trust himself to anything bushy-tailed. To which I say: this is so wrong! That's like saying: don't go near the black kid in the playground!..or: don't trust women! They are total bitches!....or: (in my particular case) all Bible thumpers are uneducated and will hurt you! Any of this sound familiar? The point is to see things thru my eyes. See people as I do, however "unique" my outlook. Jesus says "Love your enemies." This book does not. That's how I feel.
William the Guinea Pig is bored. He wants to go exploring in the woods with Stella, the squirrel. But William’s mom says it’s too dangerous. The next day, though, William sneaks out. But he finds that when danger arises, Stella runs off and leaves him to fend for himself.
Okay, I'm a sucker for picture books with guinea pigs in them. I'll admit it. This book is a rather cute story about a guinea pig who's bored and scampers off to play with a squirrel against his mother's wishes. Danger appears in the form of a fox and the little guinea pig can't scamper up a tree the way a squirrel can to get away!
