BURKE’S Book # 7in the exciting Bob Burke action-adventure series. Bob Burke and his Merry Men take on the Mexican Fentanyl Drug Cartels in sunny Mexico, and it ain’t for the Tacos and Cerveza! He blew up their headquarters and put their Hefe in jail. Now, they’ve snatched his wife and they want him. What’s next? Pay Back! He’s coming to get them. And he’s not coming alone. Mild-mannered and slight of build, this telecommunications company executive is often dismissed as the "telephone guy," but that can be a big mistake. After four tours running 'special operations' missions in Iraq and the rugged mountains of Afghanistan, this Army Ranger and Delta Force commander, is one of the most lethal killers the US government has ever produced.Looking for a good beach book or something to curl up with in front of the fire? I live in Florida. As a Vice President of the real estate subsidiary of a Fortune 500 corporation, I traveled widely in the US and abroad. A native of Chicago, I earned a BA in History and Russian Area Studies and a Master of Urban Planning degree from the University of Illinois. (Go Illini!) I’ve been active in politics (I had the stupidity to run and the misfortune to win a -year seat on a County Board of Supervisors) (more hard time than you’d get for armed robbery, car theft, or embezzlement in most states!) and active in numerous civic organizations. I served in the US Army and was a company commander and drug counselor. (The only two places in the country that teach leadership and organizational management are the Boy Scouts and the Army) When I’m not writing, I like to play golf (usually poorly) paint landscapes in oil or acrylics and running 5Ks. (slower every year) .
My wife and I have traveled extensively in Germany, Russia, the Caribbean, England, Ireland, Scotland, Poland, Switzerland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Italy, Mexico, Austria, Italy, Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia, Spain, Portugal, Holland, Egypt, and Israel.
“In a nutshell, Bob, you’ve accumulated more than your share of enemies. It was inevitable that one of them was going to come after you.”
Bob Burke, aka “The Ghost,” and his band of Merry Men are back once again! In 2016, Burke’s team of Deltas were sent into Mexico to capture the head of the Sinaloa drug cartel, José ‘Big Blade’ Ortega. Now, seven years later, José orchestrates the kidnapping of Burke’s wife and son as part of an elaborate plan that’s two parts vengeance and one part a quest to return to power….
Bob Burke remains a great character. After a couple of books where he was off-page for significant sections of the story, Burke returns to center stage in Burke’s Machete. Indeed, several of the recurring side characters have smaller-than-normal roles here due to the plot. However, the attention typically given to them is instead spent on José, Consuela, Pierre, and Jennifer, who are all really entertaining characters and probably the best collection of villains in the entire series.
Just as all the earlier books in the series, Burke’s Machete is fast-paced, funny, and never boring. Highly recommended.
Action-Filled Fight Against Drug Cartels and Psychos This is the seventh book in a series that is best read in order. Our hero is a former Lt. Colonel from Delta Force. He has a collection of former and current specialists that help him on high-priority missions. This mission is to recover his wife and small son who have been kidnapped. The story rarely slows down! There are so many moving pieces that the reader almost needs a scorecard! There is a white supremacist biker gang and many Mexican drug cartels. There are also psycho killers and American military members who are very good at what they do. I have been binge-reading this series and loving it! But, this episode had so many moving pieces that I need to just contemplate it for a while before I begin a new book. Highly Recommend.
The best way to describe this is, a holiday book. It would make a brilliant film, in the same vein as the Expendables, or Die Hard This time round Burke and team do so many illegal things for personal reasons, no government would ever sign off on them,.let alone support them Having said all that it is still a good read. It's fun, you put your brain in neutral and just go with it. As ever the humour is laugh out loud funny at times, it never really gets that dark, ok once it does, but overall you want to just keep reading Was hoping the next in the series was already out, unfortunately need to wait
Read this one in just a day as I couldn't put it down! Characters are great and written to be just short of "invincible super heroes". Can't wait for the release #8 in the series and hope more in the future!
By my count I have read more than 150 Kindle books this year (2023) and with a couple days left will add 1 or 2 more to my total. Happy New Year!!!
Another Bob Burke action story. If you liked the previous action adventures you will also like this one. It truly is non-stop "and he’s a one-man wrecking ball. "
Unfortunately the book suffers from the need for a good editorial pass. There are certainly spelling and grammar errors. Also do not take a geography lesson from this book. Phoenix is misplaced for Tucson and I-15 is nowhere near it's described location.
I loved this book. Really enjoyed the story, the snark, and the realism of having to take time to prepare for strikes. It seemed more original and polished than the last couple. Bravo! Disclosure: I received a free copy of this book with no strings attached.
Mess with the Burke family and die!!!! Hood story line fro getting a Mexican Drug load kidnapped back to the USAfor killing a friend son of the US President and the follow up of many years later!!!
I love a good thriller, And this is one! The mix of likable protagonists and despicable antagonists keeps the reader turning the pages and rooting for the good guys. Boy, they get into some tense situations! Thank you for this engaging story.
Bill knocks another one out of the park. The Burke’s series is a great read. Action and believable solutions to the predicaments the Merry Men get themselves into. Please keep them coming Bill.
