Things I Forgot About

"He is off limits. Complicated. Not right for me at all. He's trouble, wrapped up in an expensive navy suit. But I never could stay out of trouble..."

Kat Canton is a woman with a plan. Though a rebel at heart, she’s had to stay focused since becoming a single mom at seventeen. She has been content to quietly chip away at her goals in a quirky little lake town in the Ozarks, despite her famous last name. Her daughter is thriving, her savings account is growing, everything is on track.

Until she learns her dad’s business (the one funding said account) is in serious trouble.

And the man hired to turn things around is the absolute worst. Dennis DeLane may be a genius with failing companies, but the billionaire is also a stiff, pompous, arrogant snob. Kat’s polar opposite, suddenly always around—at the restaurant, the inn, the coffee shop—with his gorgeous face and a deep British accent fit to narrate romance novels.

He’s surprising. He’s infuriating. He’s invigorating. He’s also her cousin’s ex-fiancé.

So it’s a good thing his contract only lasts ninety days…

This was an amazing edition to the “Heartlanders” series that I would highly recommend if you love funny moments and good banter! ❤️

I’ve read almost all of the books from the other family members and absolutely love how the author wrote such amazing characters.

The story starts with Katie and Dennis. He is a crisis consultant that Katie's father employed for his company. Katie and Dennis ended up running into each other again at a meeting. Katie and Dennis met before that at her cousin's wedding and he has a history with her sibling Sadie.

When there are no rooms available in any hotel nearby, Dennis booked a room in The Inn that Katie owns.

He needs a temporary stay for work and for his alternative reason, trying to win someone’s heart…

I loved his connection with Katie’s daughter, Lucy and I was glad to see such an insightful, awareness-bringing ADHD representation.

Thank you to Booksirens, Kelsey Humphreys and the publisher for providing me with this copy. All opinions are my own.

I LOVED this book! I think it is now my favorite Heartlanders book. Kat and Dennis (and Lucy!) are EVERYTHING. The banter! The tension! The steam! As per usual with this book series, I laughed, I cried, and I swooned. My book bestie and I read the ARC together and live texted our reactions. I give this 5 stars. If there were half stars, I would subtract a half because I didn’t feel this was as polished as some of the other books in this series. But the plot made up for it so I’m happy to rate it 5 stars.

I received this ARC from BookSirens for free and I am leaving my honest review.

3.75/5 ⭐️

When I saw that the guy in this book was Dennis… I was hesitant. He is the former fiancé of one of the sisters in book 3. He doesn’t really come off very well either. But I ended up loving him! I love when a guy is beyond wonderful to kids. He was so good with Lucy from the very beginning. He won me over right away with that.
This is the Canton sisters cousin Kat’s book. She had a kid at 17. She’s a single mom who refuses any help from literally everyone. Then comes Dennis who only wants to help her and her daughter. And he does. And she finally lets him. Ugh this is such a cute book. I think I have a soft spot for single moms finding their happiness.
Annnnd I’m so excited because the next book is about Susan and Adam. I can’t wait for it. I hope it’s a HEA 🥰

I loved this! The Cantons strike again! I love this family and I will miss it so much, I'm getting weepy just thinking about the last book and the last epilogue... *sniffs*

Also: *screams* where is Adam??? He has been missing in the last few books and the mystery is killing me.

4.5 stars (only because the squabbling at the beginning was a little too on the immature side lol).

This is my favorite book in the series after Sadie. Gotta love a single mother + grumpy billionaire combo in a small town setting. So so good!

Plus, Kat is a badass. I want to be her when I grow up. She is a young single mom but she is also a business owner juggling her various projects, putting out fires, working behind the bar or the desk or wherever else is necessary, though she is the owner. Kind of a control freak... who doesn't realize she's literally working herself to the bone until one big posh accented billionaire comes and tries to swop in and save her. *gasp* The audacity!

Two beat up, determined, workaholic control freaks who just get each other.

Obviously, banter ensues. She will take no help from him or anyone. But little by little, the stuffy grump melts for her daugther, her town and mostly for her. He starts doing big things when that doesn't work he does the small things. Like pick up Lucy from school one day, tutoring her for math, reminding Kat to eat, gets her coffee, tries to upgrade her car (not to buy her one God forbid), wears her kids bracelets, helps tend the bar.

All that leads to shenanigans, snippy remarks, lots of huffing and stomping but also to the most delicious slow burn and steamy scenes. I cannot even. Really everything anyone could ask for in romcom. The times when they caught feelings, got jealous or made small geastures with big meanings, I swooned so hard. If I don't get this I don't want it.

The way Kelsey blends sharp humor, witty characters, small town charm and all the feels too is, to quote Dennis, "brilliant". When the title made sense, I got emotionally and weepy for real.

And because I'm me and I get hit in the feels by these books, ranting incoming:

This is the second time while reading this series when I got angry and frustrated. *deep breaths*

It's probably (most definitely!) nt my place to notice and say these things, but I'm looking at this pretty nice stack of romance paperbacks on my shelf as I'm reading, some of them with that glitzy NYT bestseller thing on the covers and I'm like who even read those manuscripts first?? They are not even half as good as this! Why isn't this series out there too? How are you missing it? This is the new Emily Henry and the world doesn't know it exists!

Ok, deep breaths. Sorry. I get touchy for indie authors. But back at the story at hand this was superb as always, the Cantons will live free in my brain forever and this is one of the best snarky single mom & grumpy stuffy billionaire I have read.

The moments they had, the things he did, the things he said, the heart-melting relationship he had with Lucy, the way he warmed up to the whole town and became one of their own, the intense chemistry and spice (holly hell!!!) I cannot.

Example: (slight spoiler)
What does a billionaire hero do in a single mother book when the kid of said mama is not happy with the school? He buys the school and changes things, naturally. *ovaries exploding*

“Yes. You scare me and you have absolutely destroyed me. And I want you to be all mine.”

And the thing I love most about these books is the sistervention. I will miss it so much when it's over, but I need to know about Susan and Adam asap. 🥹🥹🥹

I'm so glad Kat got a book. She is such a fierce woman. I loved that we watched her kick ass in business and as a mom. She's young but had to grow up quickly. A Canton cousin but a true sister to the others in this series!

Dennis! Oh I was so not expecting him in all the ways! I adored him. I loved how much he loved Lucy and that it wasn't even a thought. His respect for Kat as a woman and a mom were beautiful. Was he still a man underestimating her a little-yeah but what would a book be without out a little conflict!

Being strong and independent is commendable but not to the detriment to oneself. Kat's trauma kept her from letting love in. Not just romantically but all around. Being an island isn't what this life is about. Letting others help us is so important and because I'm so like Kat--I hate asking for help or allowing others to help this book will hold a special place in my heart.

Let's all remember we can be strong, independent entrepreneurs, bad ass mamas, but with a village we are stronger, and with love, well that just makes this word a whole hell of beautiful!

4.5 stars. This time around we meet Kat the cousin to the sisters. She’s had a pretty rough time due to a horrible father and a teenage pregnancy that led to her wonderful daughter, Lucy. She’s a bit wild with her pink hair and daisy dukes. She works at a small restaurant, bar and inn and is constantly moving barely ever stopping to rest. She’s at a board meeting for her father’s failing company when a billionaire businessman that knows the sisters family comes to try and get her fathers company out of trouble. He begins by staying at the inn until he can find a house. Kat and him rub each other wrong until well… until they don’t. But Kat is trying to get him to win his billionaire friends daughter’s hand in marriage(long story)and in return Dennis, the businessman,is teaching her daughter math. It’s a recipe for romance for someone anyway. This is a romance after all.

As always with this series, I’m totally in love with this whole family and all the men that have been involved in the past 5 books. The writing is fun, the chemistry between the couples is off the page fantastic, the banter is a plus and in this book’s case the little girl is a wonderful character and not just a side character either. Every adult contemporary romance readers should read these. It can standalone but to really get the stories you should start with book one. They are so worth the read!

I absolutely loved this book so much. Started out as enemies and continued (slowly) towards lovers. Kat is a does it all single mom, she is an amazing human and reminds me a lot of myself. I loved her independence and confidence and that she never backed down from any challenge.

I would have loved to see more interaction with some of the characters that made them who they were (Dennis/Dad, Kat/Dad, Dennis/Lucy). Its mostly implied but I felt could've shed more light.

I've not read any books from Kelsey Humphreys but I am now a fan! This opposites attract, slow burn novel is amazing While it is number 5 in this series it can definitely be read as a stand alone.

What can I say I’m a sucker for the Cantons and their men, Kat and Dennis were no different! There’s a lot that is relatable with Kat, and I love the dynamic of the characters as Kelsey weaves this story. This story will have you laughing, rolling your eyes and tearing up. I can’t wait for the final installment of the Heartlanders, but for now Kelsey has done it again.

Prior to this book if you’d asked me which Heartlanders book, or Canton lady, was my favorite - I would not be able to give you an answer. Each book has hit me a different way and I’ve loved each and every one. But this one, Kat & Dennis, is my favorite story. The opposites attract is already a preferred trope, but Kat’s strength, determination, tenacity and grit was so incredible and admirable and she was perfectly appreciated by Dennis in a way that truly made me love them. Lucy is also incredible and I loved her interactions with everyone. I laughed, I cried, I laughed some more. This book hit all the marks for me.

I give this one a 4.5/5, rounding up. I've read all of the Heartlanders stories so far and I really enjoy them. The writing gets better with each book, and Kelsey did a great job with this one. It was a good length, easy, enjoyable read. Kat is a great main character and the story line flowed really well. I would definitely recommend this book/series to anyone! She is the wild cousin of a famous family legacy and he is the British billionaire who she didn't see coming.

Katherine Canton has a famous last name but her father is not a great example of that success like her Uncle. Growing up as the Canton cousin she was wild and closed off at the same time. When she ended up being a single mom at age 17, her cousins supported her through it. Now 8 years later, she is overworked, underpaid, and overwhelmed. When her father's side of the Canton business starts to fail, they summon Dennis Delaney to fix it.

Dennis Delaney is a British Billionaire who was engaged to Sadie Canton, and may have not handled the break up well. His best friend, Emerson, also married into the Canton family. When Dennis' father finds an American heiress to honor the family, he shows up in Arkansas to woo the bride in the name of business. In the same town, is the branch of the Canton family that needs his professional advice. What he didn't expect is wild and wonderful, Kat Canton to take him by surprise.

Dennis and Kat couldn't be any more opposite. Kat is prepared to hate him and despises that he showed up in her world. But as Dennis steps in to help her business, ask for her advice, and tutor Kat's daughter, the two enter into a truce/friendship. Kat doesn't want to like Dennis, but he grows on her. Dennis is mesmerized by Kat and her work ethic. As the chemistry builds between them, Kat doesn't know how to handle it. Dennis is in a competition to marry another woman to make his father happy, yet he is so wonderful to her and her daughter she can't ignore him.
As time runs out for both, can opposites find a way to create something together?

Dual POV, haters to lovers, spicy.

We were supposed to hate Dennis from Sadie's book. But this creative author decided to give him a redemption story. Dennis is sweet, charming, and wealthy, and Kat can't stand him. He never once hated Kat but she definitely confounds him. Kat is a lot of fun and Dennis is lovely. Reading Dennis' relationship with Kat's daughter is really sweet. Although some critics may say she seemed a bit unrealistic, I thought it was nice. Kat is not used to relying on other people and it's hard for her to receive help. She spends a lot of time in this book trying to push Dennis away despite her own feelings. The 3rd quarter drama didn't make a lot of sense, the grand gesture moments felt over the top and awkward and more about the giver than the recipient. Nice HEA and Epilogues.

Bonus: all the Canton cousins make brief appearances.

Note to self: the author is hinting at a story about the oldest Canton, Susan, and her husband, Adam. The storyline is about a married couple in trouble and that is your least favorite trope.

In the Heartlanders Series' fifth instalment, Kelsey Humphreys delivers another stellar performance with a hilarious small-town billionaire romance. This stand-alone novel features the vibrant single mom, Kat Canton, her spirited daughter Luce, and the ingenious tech billionaire, Dennis DeLane. The story unfolds with a perfect mix of banter, joy, sadness, friendship, love, and family dynamics, enriched by the town's small-town charm.

The strong mother-daughter bond between Kat and Lucy adds a heartwarming layer to the narrative, while Dennis emerges as a character with a heart of gold, openly acknowledging his faults and striving to be better. The evolving relationship between Dennis and Luce further enriches the storyline.

While the romance primarily centers on Kat and Dennis, the book tastefully handles romantic scenes with a focus on the emotional connection rather than explicit content. The banter remains a standout feature, contributing to the overall charm of the story, as do the lovable characters populating the small town.

However, a nuanced observation includes moments when Kat's treatment of Dennis is perceived as excessively harsh, occasionally bordering on cruelty. This aspect is seen as integral to Kat's character growth, highlighting her journey of breaking down emotional walls.

Overall, the novel successfully combines top-notch banter, lovable characters, and the quaint setting of a small town, delivering an engaging and enjoyable read. Whether experienced as part of the Heartlanders Series or as a stand-alone novel, the story resonates with humour, emotion, and the unpredictability of small-town life.

*I read this book as an ARC from BookSirens.*

The fifth book in the Heartlanders series centers around Kat, a part of the Canton crew who are practically like sisters (she is their cousin). She lives in a small town in the Ozarks, slowly but surely ticking the items on her list of goals while raising her daughter alone since she was seventeen. Kat belongs to the board of her father's company and finds out that they are in dire straits. Her father hires Dennis DeLane, a consultant who is also her cousin's ex-fiancee and someone who Kat considers a pompous...well, you-know-what.

Kat keeps seeing Dennis around town, including at her Inn and at the restaurant she owns. She can't seem to get rid of him, especially since her father contracted him to work on the business for ninety days. The question is whether she wants to in the first place.

I read the first installment of the Heartlander series and thought it was cute. I saw this book was available through BookSirens so I decided to give it a try. I wanted to like this book, I really did, but unfortunately, there were several things that just really bothered me about it.

While I understood the reasons why Kat was guarded and could appreciate why she worked so hard, I think she could have been a little less headstrong and honestly could have been a little less bitchy. Don't get me wrong, I am the same way, but it does help a little to ask for help or just give in to the feelings that you know you have for the male main character. I also got the sense that Dennis was framed a la Christian Grey, and it would not surprise me in any way, shape, or form if this was considered by some to be some Fifty Shades fan fiction (just without the super naughty stuff).

I want to read the other four books in the series to get a full picture of the entire family, but frankly, this book just seemed to be one that slightly phoned it in and lacked originality.

Things I Forgot About by Kelsey Humphreys
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️
Kelsey hits a home run again with this hilarious, small town, billionaire romance! This book 5 in the Heartlanders Series but they can all be read as stand-alone novels. This story was about the beloved, strong willed, rebellious single mom Kat Canton, her joyful daughter Luce and the genius, tech billionaire Dennis DeLane. This book has it all, banter, joy, sadness, friendship, love, family issues, age gap, great relationship development and so much fun! I love the dynamic between Kat and Luce, their bond is so strong and Kat is such an amazing mom, it just fills me with so much happiness to watch their relationship. Dennis is a man with a heart of gold. He has the absolute best intentions in everything he does and is very open with his faults and his attempts to be better. I also love to watch his and Luce’s relationship grow and developed and see her bring out the best in him. One thing I didn’t quite enjoy was how Kat treated him. There’s being a “brat” and pushing buttons, but she was sometimes cruel and I felt really bad for Dennis. Granted, that was part of Kats character growth and learning to not put up so many walls but it was really hard to see how she talked to him sometimes. The romance focused mostly on their relationship and had mostly fade to black scenes that were well done. It kept the romance alive, but there wasn’t any graphic or gratuitous smut. Overall, I really enjoyed this one. The banter was top notch, the characters were very lovable, and I adored the town they lived in and the small town craziness that happens. I am grateful to have received a free copy as an ARC and I’m willingly leaving this honest review.

This book hit all the vibes I need it to. It gave my heart all the gooys and feels. Kat is a bada**. She is crazy independent (aka a wee bit of a control freak) she works insanely hard, she knows what she wants (well she thinks she does) she may have ‘forgot’ a couple of things on her dream board but she is insanely smart.. Lucy is beyond adorable, I personally would love a bracelet from an eight year old that I could wear around. I think it is so cute that everyone has their own color that represents them throughout the story.

Also all the food talk 😋I was hungry the whole times I was reading this book (have a snack on hand) plus I am pretty sure chicken and waffles with no syrup and a strawberry nose is my new favorite breakfast.

“Honey, if it doesn't taste right, add sugar.” ❣️

Oh Dennies he tries so hard lol. He falls so hard for those girls and it was so freaking cute to see the bounds he was willing to go for them. Gosh he had my heart just swooning at times. I LOVED it!

There's a tip for you right there. We don't mind that we’re country people. We love it, celebrate it. No one here is going to be offended that I'm giving you hillbilly lessons.”

It may be because I am considered one of those ‘hillbillies’ in a smaller town out in the sticks but this quote made me laugh so freaking hard. Because it is true lol I love giving hillbilly lessons to those that have never touched an animal outside of a petting zoo.

Thank You So Much for the Opportunity to Read This ARC

Another great story in the Heartlanders series!

Katherine, aka Kat,Canton is a cousin of the Canton sisters, a single mother, and fiercely independent.

Her Father is estranged from his brother, who is father of the sisters, and he is not doing well in his business, so brings in a financial consultant to help put his finances back on track.

Dennis DeLane, a British Billionaire, works as a financial consultant, but is at odds with his own father, who is threatening to disinherit him.

Kat turns up for a Board Meeting at her father’s office, only to discover that the consultant is someone she met previously at her cousin’s wedding, but he appears not to recognise her.

This is a brilliant story of Kat & Dennis’ relationship, with his need to rescue her, and her independence, stopping her from allowing him into her life fully. She does allow him to tutor her daughter, Lucy, in Math however, as Lucy is struggling at school.

There are many twists and turns in this story, with a separate story nudging alongside, which could make or break their budding relationship.

Hearts get broken, but can the relationship be saved by a Grand Gesture, orchestrated by Kat’s cousins and their partners?

Definitely an enjoyable read, and fans of the Heartlanders Series will not be disappointed.

Love every single one of these Canton books!

From the start, with Kat's tough boss-lady confronting the uptight arrogance of Dennis DeLane, I found myself grinning from ear to ear. And I wasn’t sure how much I’d like the male MC after his appearances in the other Canton family books. But Kelsey Humphreys sure can write her some layered characters!

Kat is navigating single motherhood with a grace and humor that endears her instantly to readers (and everyone around her). Uptight billionaire Dennis challenges her stable world with his “swoopy” tendency to rescue damsels in distress. But Kat does *not* need rescuing. Humphreys has written their story with delicious intensity, where the MCs’ clashing personalities and inability to keep away from each other (and the snarky banter), end up revealing hidden facets of each character.

Despite the not-insignificant obstacles of Dennis’s history as Kat’s cousin’s fiance, Kat’s determination to get rid of him, then help him marry another woman, and drastically different backgrounds, Kat and Dennis are perfect for each other. The fact that you’re dying for them to just *be together already* is a testament to the author’s exceptional ability to weave stories that leave readers captivated, emotionally invested, and yearning for more. I am a forever fan!

ANOTHER 5 STAR READ FROM KELSEY HUMPHREYS!!! I am so obsessed with this series. This series is about the five Canton sisters. Each book is about a different sister so they absolutely can be read as stand-alones but why would you even want to? I’ve read each of these books before they’ve come out so there’s been months in between each book. I already want to read the entire series again once it’s complete.

So Book 1 “Things I Should Have Said” is where you need to start. About Sky Canton the introvert.
Book 2 is about Sam Canton the extrovert.
Book 3 is about Sadie Canton and is a second chance romance.
Book 4 is about Sally Canton and is a forced proximity romance.

So here’s Book 5 about sister number 5! WRONG. Book 5 is about Kat Canton. The fiercely independent single mother who is single-handedly making her dreams come true. She doesn’t need anyone in her life, especially no bazillionaire British hot shot who is only in town to help her horrible father fix his business.

Book 6 will maybe be Susan? I’m not sure but all I know is that I 100% need to have each of these books as trophies on my shelf. If you are into romcom, funny banter and fantastic characters, this series is for you.

I love the Canton family, and I was so happy to read Kat's book! She is a single mom who is raising her 8 year old daughter and running her own business. She works hard everyday and she only relies on herself to provide for her daughter. Kat is used to doing everything on her own.

Dennis is the billionaire ex-fiance of Kat's cousin, Sadie. Dennis appeared in Sadie's book, and he left a negative impression on the Canton family. He is also the best friend of Sam's husband, Emerson. There are so many connections to Kat's cousins!

Dennis comes to town to help Kat's dad with his business. Kat doesn't get along with her dad, but she starts to see Dennis around town. She strikes up a deal with him- he will tutor her daughter while Kat will help him win over another billionaire through dates. Kat and Dennis are total opposites, but he cares so much for Kat's daughter.

Kat doesn't need anyone to take care of her, but oh how Dennis tries! He has an amazing grand gesture for Kat's daughter, Lucy! He shows up for Kat and does things for her to make her smile without being obvious and throwing around his money.

I loved this story, and you will too! Thanks to BookSirens and Kelsey Humphreys for an ARC of this amazing book!

How to sum up the relationship, if that's what to call it, of Kat and Dennis. Initially, they can't stand each other, then little Lucy, the most adorable kid ever, becomes their buffer, and they decide to become frenemies, which then morphs into an actual friendship, after which a friends-with-benefits sexual relationship develops, while all the time they are falling hard for each other, but Kat is attempting to see that Dennis succeeds in his original goal to marry Grace, a billionaire in her own right, which will fulfill his family's requirements and ensure his own billionaire inheritance. That last one was what kept me from making this a five-star review. The fact that Dennis was perfectly fine with trying to convince Kat to have a fling with him, the whole time that he was actively dating and trying to become the man that Grace would choose among the number of men that were also pursuing her never sat well with me. Other than that, I really, really liked everything else about the book. There is a HEA for Kat and Dennis, with a good epilogue tying up a number of loose ends, but still, four stars, rather than five.

- Single mother

- Enemies to lovers

- Sassy FMC

- Age gap

- BANTER, lots and lots of delicious banter

I just love the Canton family so much! This is the story of Kat, cousin of the Canton sisters. She is a single mother and has many, many prickly walls built around her. She has made a life for herself and her daughter Lucy. They are working towards goals and don't need the distraction stuffy, sexy Brit Dennis provides.

Dennis is in town as a favor to Emerson, who is married to cousin Samantha. He is helping turn around Kat's father's business. While he's in town, he is also making a bid for the local heiress, Grace's hand in marriage. But he's too formal and stiff for the family. So he asks Kat to help him become more approachable in exchange for tutoring Lucy.

Somehow along the way, Kat catches feelings for Dennis. This scares her enough that she redoubles her efforts to help him in the competition for Grace. What she feels for Dennis isn't real anyway…..

I loved the sassy Kat and her zest for life. And I adored Dennis and his desire to rescue damsels, even though Kat can absolutely take care of herself. These two are the most volatile and fun couple so far in this series and I devoured this book!!!

OK. Here’s the thing. I LOVE the Heartlanders series. Kelsey Humphreys has created the perfect interconnected series with the most fun family! When I got the chance to read this arc, I squealed. With every new book I say “ this one is my favorite”, but I really think this one is it!!

Things I Forgot About follows Kat Canton, cousin of Sadie Canton and the rest of the Canton sisters and Dennis, ex fiancé of Sadie. I was not thrilled that this book focused on Dennis, because he is not like able in previous books, but boy was I wrong!!

Kat is a super strong, single mom, who owns multiple businesses. She’s quirky and just a badass. I love a strong fmc that can hold her own! Dennis is the billionaire consultant for Kat’s dad’s business. He is grumpy and super stuck in his ways. But, he is the ULTIMATE book boyfriend. The things he does for Kat and the moments he has with Kat’s daughter had me melting! This is small town, enemies to lovers, grumpy/sunshine PERFECTION and it has some great spice!!! Do yourself a favor and read this series!!!

Okayyyyy Kelsey Humphreys can write some incredible book boyfriends! I will admit I'm reading this series out of order (I do recommend reading the series in order, just to avoid spoilers, but they can be read as stand-alones), so I haven't read the other book with Dennis' character yet, but boy oh boy does he redeem himself here! I absolutely loved his character. I loved his grand gestures, his accent, how much he cared for and SAW Kat and how he supported her, I just loved him. I spent so much time swooning while reading this book.

As with all of the books in this series, I loved almost everything about it. Kelsey has a way of writing incredible characters and stories that just suck you in and make you feel all kind of feels. I *almost* want to say this is my favorite book of the series, but I still have a few to read before I can commit to that statement.

Read if you love: small-town vibes, found family, single mom, enemies-to-lovers, British Billionaire, age gap, forced proximity, etc. You really get the whole shebang here!

Thank you so much to Kelsey Humphreys and BookSirens for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This is book 5 in Humphreys Heartlanders series and is everything I could have wanted it to be. I have loved each of the books in this series and each gets better and better. This is Kat and Dennis' story and what a journey! These two already have somewhat of a history and Kat makes it clear that she has not affection for Dennis at all...but Dennis wins her over and it's just the very best! I adore the Canton family and their different personalities as well as their loyalty to one another. I love Kat's whit and the banter throughout. She is such a strong character who is doing it all. Dennis is our billionaire genius with some faults but a heart of gold. Humphrey's delivers the very best in this perfect romance that is altogether sweet, and funny! A smalltown, billionaire romance that is well written, flows smoothly and will have you laughing and swooning and cheering the whole time with all the feels! I love, love, love this book and the entire series. I can't wait to see what Humphrey will write next!

I did not like this book as much as I wanted to. It was just so... bland. Add in the fact that Kat was so completely hateful to him initially, I just had a hard time getting into this book. It's amazing that they ended up together at all.

I struggled in the beginning of this book, simply because Kat was a royal bitch to Dennis. It was to the point where I was wondering how they would ever end up together, since they weren't really being forced to be near each other. If someone was being as hateful to me as she was to him, I would steer clear of any such person. I understand the history with Dennis and Sadie, but she took things to a way extreme level, even so.

The plot device that he had to get married to Grace in order to keep his inheritance felt very weak. The author someone explained it a little more later, in that he takes his name and family very seriously, but at the same time, I didn't really get that from him at all. It just felt like a bad plot device that just didn't work well with this author's writing style.

I was looking forward to this book, but I am left disappointed. I will finish up the series with the last book for Susan, though.
