This book contains dark themes, mature scenes, and is rated 18+
Definitely check your warnings on this spicy dark bully romance book. I was definitely cheering on for MMC... which is a first for me 🌶/4.5... this book started fast, then eased up and came back fast again... Can't wait for book 2!
ARC READER. Okay look….this book absolutely had me doing twists and turns with all my emotions. This is a bully dark romance, please know there are a lot of trigger warnings. It was incredible to see the inner monologue as it told flashbacks. Usually i root for MFC in books but in this one i was 100% rooting for MMC! Now the spice in this book🥵🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ I’ll always think of this book when i look at a spatula😏 • • • • ⬇️SPOILERS‼️⬇️ • • • Everything that Alison had inflicted on Jared in the flashbacks, had me fuming! The fact that Jared had so much patience to wait years to seek his revenge on Alison had me baffled. There were so many plots in this book that i really enjoyed and i caught onto, for example when he revealed in his inner monologue that he was STILL going to release everything on the USB after the month was up but giving her 1-2 days to “think” she’s escaped him had me gasping! What made me the most upset towards Alison was her covering up rapist actions that her high school bf and husband did! I really enjoyed how he used the same tactics that Alison had previously inflicted on him when they were in high school. Karma had caught up to Alison! It made my heart so happy that Vince “saved” Jared from jumping off the bridge when he was younger and gave him a purpose in life. I wish there was more about what Vince taught Jared as he grew up working for him, the way he reset Jared’s mind to build him back up. I respect Vince definitely for taking him in. The fact that Jared didn’t know about her Mom being an alcoholic and her Dad not caring, or that he didn’t know she didn’t actually sleep with any of her teachers or professors to get good grades definitely put a twist on the way he viewed Alison. Jared and Alison’s life is at risk in the end and it’s left on a huge cliffhanger that left me wanting MORE! I CAN’T WAIT FOR WHEN THE NEXT BOOK “CORRUPTION” RELEASES! ✨ ✨ ✨ ✨Author, Anne T. Thyssen’s writing captivates me and flows so beautifully throughout the entire book! It was so easy to read and picture all the scenes! It truly was a pleasure to be given this opportunity to arc read her book! I’m looking forward to reading more of her work! I’ll rave about this author forever!❤️

Payback is a dark bully romance. It ends on a cliffhanger and is to be continued with the second book Corruption. Please see the trigger warning below!!!!
This book contains extreme bullying, coercion, gray areas of consensual/non-consensual sexual encounters, torture, physical abuse, sexual abuse, r@pe, child abuse (includes sexual abuse but not detailed), forced consent, manipulation, infidelity, infertility, cheating, bribing, extortion, stalking, alcohol addiction, sex trafficking, death, BDSM, anal play, rope play, primal play, knife play, blood play, roleplaying, and explicit sex scenes.
First and foremost, the FMC came off very unlikeable at first. This was exacerbated by the flashbacks the MMC had of the bullying he experienced in school at the hands of the FMC. She would also frequently think that the MMC was “below her” and call the torture she fished out “pranks.” I didn’t ever feel bad for her when the MMC would punish her.
The FMC did redeem herself towards the end however. The MMC revealed a particularly heinous attack by one of his classmates that he assumed was initiated by the FMC. This caused her to reevaluate everything she did to him and finally felt the shame the MMC had been trying to get her to feel throughout the book.
The spicy parts were definitely very spicy but I found the parts in between the spice were very repetitive. The FMC’s and MMC’s perspectives both had redundant thoughts with little change or improvement. For instance, the FMC would continually think about how humiliating it would be for the MMC to give her an org@sm and yet after each one, there was barely any mention of how humiliated and disgusted she felt. This was part of the reason I only gave this book 3 stars.
Another reason was I didn’t find the MMC all that menacing. Even when he would think about why he wanted to punish the FMC, it came off more like he was in love with her and had been for years. Maybe it’s just my perspective but I found it difficult to see him as a threat to the FMC because of that.
For the spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️/5 For the story itself: ⭐️⭐️

ARC read and honest review. This is my first book by Anne T. Thyssen and I've been missing out! Reading the triggers prior to reading, I was worried about how I would react and if i would be able to push through. I absolutely loved the story line, kept me on edge the whole time, never quite knowing what to expect next. I have to admit, I struggled a little with my own shall we say Morals in this book, it's a dark read, with ALL the triggers. But triggers aside, and many that would definately deter me from a read, I read the book anyway and I'm so glad I did. The most disappointing this about this read is the To be continued.....I can't wait for the next book in the series...What will become of Alison and Jared? There is a very fine line between love and hate. Very well written book! 👏
Plot with tropes of childhood bully, abuse, and adult revenge. Plot was quite good but needlessly wordy in delivery.
Jared was dark, damaged, and grew from a kind scrawny, abused boy to an attractive successful man now out for revenge against his bully. Alison was a brutal bully, and I hated her character. The author never made me to feel any sympathy or understanding for her. Just hated her the whole story. She was so annoyingly stubborn, all about appearance, and didn’t learn from her mistakes. Jared, given his traumatic experience with Alison, didn't demonstrate enough distain or loathing to the heroine considering what she had done and who he had become. Jared was too nice to Alison, but mostly, though, she wasn’t contrite enough to be likable.
The plot was very intriguing and held my attention, but just felt slow because too many consecutive items / events were described that could have been left out. Stylistically paragraph upon paragraph of text interspersed with some dialogue but a lot of inner thoughts. As such reading became very repetitive and then slow, almost boring. The flashbacks although good were extremely disruptive to the story flow.
Overall, I was interested in the story. Great premise with the bully reversal, dark and spicy -- my kind of dark -- plot with a sub arc, but I just wished for more progress, less description, and less repetition. I was able to jump ahead without issue. Will I read the next book? Most likely.
Jared endured terrible bullying in high school; he was subjected to some horrendous abuse, including SA, with Alison being the ring leader. Now as an adult, he’s changed, but those memories of his torment remain, and he wants vengeance, ticking off his bullies one by one, saving Alison until last. With Alison within his grasp, he forces her to sign a contract promising her life to him for a month and to be his slave, not realising just what he has in store for her.
Payback is a dark bully romance, although romance is a questionable term. With a mix of present-day and flashbacks, we get to experience what Jared went through in his younger years at the hands of Alison and then see how he manipulates those things into the present day to reenact it as part of his revenge, but with an added twist and flair. He wants to break her, and at times it looks like it might be working, but other times it seems there may be a shared spark between the two, which wasn’t part of the plan, and that terrifies both of them and causes Alison to resort back to her nasty, snarky mode.
I felt for Jared. His revenge against Alison was more kinky than overly dark, and I think he could have probably gone further, but seeing the things he had been through in the past made me want to hug him, even if he is a little bit crazy now. Alison, for the most part, was not at all likeable; she came across as the kind of person who thinks she’s superior to everyone else, and her attitude and actions showed that. I started to soften towards her in the latter parts of the book, as she seemed to show genuine emotion and remorse for her actions, and it felt like she cared a little about Jared. However, the author then ended the book with an abrupt cliffhanger that left me with so many questions and desperate for the next book.
I dunno wtf I just read or why but now I have a feeling I have to finish the series from that cliffhanger. This is a dark book so def read the TW. I got it for free and was like ok let’s see, and well…I definitely saw. It’s twisted and cruel but now she is sucked into is world I have to see what happens to both of them because they’re obviously both awful people who are obsessed with each other.
The filth was the enjoyable part but it felt so slow moving when the whole book is set over less than 2 weeks. Let's just say I was happy that I got this on a stuff your Kindle day and didn't pay for it...
Payback, book 1 of the Dark Revenge series authored by Anne T. Thyssen was exciting, exhilarating, and dangerously dark with more than a hint of torment and torture. The twists and turns leading to the cliffhanger will leave you wanting more. Alison, the high school bully, gets a taste of her own medicine, with an adult twist; when Jared decides to exact his revenge. Alison, once a ringleader, is now reduced to begging her Master for release. Will Jared break her? Or will she hold on defiantly until the end of her contract?
This was my first book from Anne T. Thyssen, and it most certainly won't be the last! Please check the trigger warnings at the beginning before proceeding. Mature, 18+, graphic. I was part of the ARC team, but there were a few spelling/grammatical errors. Aside from those minor inconveniences, this was a great read! I can not wait for book 2 to release!
Check trigger warnings before reading. When I think that Jared is taking it too far he is justified in the next few pages and it's scary... Anne Thyssen is a great author!
This is only the first in the Dark Revenge series, so yes, it does end on a cliffhanger 😅.
In addition, please read through the trigger warnings thoroughly! The contents of this book is DARK. While I was unbothered, others might be.
I'm sure if you haven't been bullied before you know someone who has. And if you have, then you know the feeling of wanting revenge and retribution on your bullies.
Alison was the queen bee in high school. Her target was Jared. Why? Because it was easy. But she didn't know what Jared went home to after enduring hours of her torment in the one place he could have found solace. When he's finally prepared to end his own suffering, he was shown a way out.
Years later, Jared meets her again. But this time it's on his terms and not hers. This time, she's the target and he's the tormentor. He's finally dishing out everything he experienced under her rule onto her instead. Sweet revenge is on the tip of his tongue. What's more, she's once again clueless about what he's gone through and what he's now involved in. Until something goes wrong.
I enjoyed reading this very much and cannot wait for the next book. There are some elements in the writing that may not be for everyone however, I loved every bit of this. It wasn't hard for me to get pulled in from start to somewhat finish 😅. For me, the tension gave the spice level a raise. Alison is definitely not doing herself any favors trying to deny this man.

What the heck did I just read? Was it good? Hell yes! CHECK YOUR TRIGGER WARNINGS though please because there is a lot of deep dark stuff going on in this book. This was my first read for Anne T. Thyssen and I’m really sad I just heard about her on TikTok when I signed up to ARC for Corruption the next book in the series. So I of course needed to read this one first. This book is dark romance times 100. I have never despised a FMC more than Allison. I love a good bully romance but dang I wanted to go into this book and beat the hell out of her. This is revenge at its finest and I’m so here for it. I am now about to start the next book in the series because I need to know what happens. Happy reading!
Disclaimer, I did receive this book as an ARC reader and it is my very first read from this author. I really enjoyed this one, the storyline kept you wondering what’s next while moving fairly quickly, and was unlike any other plot I’ve read before. It truly is the epitome of sweet revenge—it has you torn between who to side with! Ends on a cliffie that keeps you wanting more. Can’t wait to read the next book in the series!
Oh this book was good! This is like a reverse bully. Jared was bullied in high school by Allison and he is out for revenge. He intends to make her feel everything that she did to him and do it all within a month and be like a slave. All while he does his Hitman jobs.
Allison runs a fashion business, she is on top of the world, when Jared comes in her office to blackmail her into being his slave for a month.
This was good and there is a cliffhanger so I need to read the next book ASAP!
Before reading this book please read all the trigger warnings, this is not a romance, nor a fairy tale it has some pretty strong parts so be sure before reading this story.
The spice in this book is quite good, although some of it is a bit repetitive you can't take away from the fact that the smut scenes are tremendous. At the beginning of the story, we know the cruel bullying that Jared goes through from Alison, we can say that it is something between teenagers but it goes beyond letting us see how cruel Alison can be as the book goes on we discover more of why Jared hates Alison so much to create an unhealthy obsession towards her to that added everything that happened with his father gives to understand why he thinks that having Alison as a slave and threatening to uncover all his secrets to the world to destroy it, he wants to make her pay for all that he suffered. The patience he has to wait all those years and make Alison pay for everything really surprises you, he has a more twisted mind than Alison in the end.
The characters are hard to like or pick one of because of the way they both are in the story you can't tell if it's hate, obsession, or something else they both feel as the story goes on, although you can see Alison's indecision as the story goes on whether or not she is repulsed by Jared's treatment of her from what I could sense to the extent is that she begins to slowly fall into his hands, craving his touch more and more.
Every time the story goes by they both find out such dark things about each other that it changes the game in a way between them, the things they both go through throughout their lives. When Jared finds out that Alison didn't sleep with any teachers and that they were all rumors it makes him change the way he thinks about her a little bit. What does bother me is that Alison no matter how much proof they placed on them that both her husband and her school boyfriend are rapists and she doesn't want to accept it especially because she doesn't want her marriage to break up all for appearances and the way she accepts all that to save everyone is something that gives you to understand several things, maybe she did change in her adulthood. Jared becomes a man who radiates fear, especially dominance, and ruthlessness, but it doesn't take away all the traumas he has to deal with.
The plot twist at the end as it changes everything and leaves you on a cliffhanger not knowing what will happen was something tremendous I loved it left you wanting more of the story especially to see where this obsession that you both have with each other will go. I am already eager to read the second part of this book because it really has tremendous world-building, good characters with good background history, and the narration is tremendous, the writer did a great job creating this new world. I thank the author Anne T. Thyssen for giving me this ARC to enjoy this story. I will start reading her books since this one has introduced me to her world.
If I had to describe Jared as a Taylor Swift song, he would 1000% be Vigilante Shit and that is honestly so hot of him. However the book as a whole? Definitely is Karma.
This book has the best dedication that I have read so far this year. To the readers who have their man, woman, partner, or vibrator nearby, make sure to keep them in your line on sight. like hello???!! I’m in love already and the story hasn’t even begun yet.
There is nothing I love more than seeing a victim get their revenge. But the way that Jared, our mmc, does it is just 😘👌. Bullying doesn’t cover the torment that Jared was put through, nowhere was safe for him, so he bided his time, planned his revenge until he could be their destruction as he tore their lives apart, as he became the devil they didn’t know was coming for them.
This book proves that you never know what is going on in someone’s life; the loner could be an abuse victim, the mean girl could have emotionally neglectful parents, the reviewer could be doing the cha cha slide whilst reviewing but you’ll never know if you don’t pick up the book.
If you have a pet play or degradation kink and a shit poker face, don’t read this in front of people or you’ll be like 😳 almost the whole time, especially if you’re a sucker for a “Master’s Little Slut”/”My Little Slut”.
I loved watching as their relationship changed and we got to experience the different highs and lows, emotions and what they were thinking of each other in the moment and how that changed how they felt. example: I hadn’t thought about Jared Tyler in years. I had left that scrawny emo kid behind when I left high school, or rather he left before even graduating, and I never looked back. Yet, now old memories surged back as I read his name. It was truly a blast from the past, but I couldn’t discern why his name was being brought into this. He didn’t work for me. I had no idea where he was in the world. It wouldn’t even surprise me if he were dead and buried.
to
“Jared, this is serious. Something very bad could happen to you!” I urged. “Something already did,” he mumbled, downing his drink. “Then talk to me!” “I thought we just agreed that knowing was a bad thing.” I knew he was right, but this was weighing on me. After what he had revealed, I felt a greater responsibility toward his well-being. Yet, he remained tight-lipped, and I was uncertain whether I should even press further.
Absolutely read the trigger warnings before starting this book. If you're looking for a sweet romance, this is NOT it. This is a dark romance with a lot of uncomfortable scenes.
I felt like the story took off rather quickly and then slowed down tremendously and then picked up again towards the end. A lot of the in between where it slowed down, was repetitive. It felt like the main characters were having the same thoughts over and over again, so maybe that's why it dragged a little for me.
FMC, Alison, is very unlikable from the beginning. She justified her actions (being a childhood bully) because she wanted to display control. However, the things she did as a child to the MMC, were just plain awful and I didn't really feel bad that he was getting revenge on her. She didn't really change much as an adult either. Towards the end, I do think she started to feel an emotional connection to the MMC but she's in denial about it.
MMC, Jared, is driven by vengeance and it's completely understandable to a certain extent. He had an absolutely terrible childhood and when Vince takes him in, he gives Jared a purpose. However, Jared had obsessive behavior for YEARS about Alison and Vince didn't have the "you have to find a way to let her go in the end" conversation until AFTER Jared already had Alison?! And the ending I found it a little frustrating with how Vince treated Jared.
Overall, the spice was very spicy but again, the main character's thoughts were repetitive so it did take away from the enjoyment a little. It did end on a cliffhanger, and it was enough of a cliffhanger to where I will read the next one. I do want to see how this all ends.

Okay everyone! I was fortunate to be one of the arc readers for this book!! Which is super exciting. First off there are trigger warnings!! Please read before jumping into this book. This is not a fairytale, I repeat this is not a fairytale!
⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 is my rating. I wanted to really love this however I found the characters hard to like. With that being said I enjoyed this story. The ending really pulled me back in. Some parts are a little repetitive however I feel like this story has more to offer its readers so I will be looking out for the next release.
So Jared, our mmc is on a path to revenge to give everyone that ever hurt him a taste of their own medicine. His grand prize, Alison Brown, the girl who tormented him in high school and left her mark. He hates her, is disgusted by her and will stop at nothing til his revenge burns her life to the ground. Hate and obsession fuels him and his grand scheme at getting back at her.
Alison, our mfc, living the perfect life. She’s a perfectionist with the perfect husband, CEO of her own modeling agency. She has achieved the imagine she so desires. But perfection doesn’t equal happiness. Alison is fighting her own battles when her life is disrupted by her past. The past she never thought would catch up to her, after all she is a changed person. But she created a monster and he is here give payback.
If you are looking for something dark, look no further, but please read the triggers. While I wasn’t bothered by the extreme scenarios in this, many others might be.
I would give the story a 3.5 stars and the spice a 3.75/4 so I rounded rating up to 4
This was a voluntary ARC read for an honest review.
This is the first book in the series Dark Revenge. I wouldnt say it necessarily a dark read but I would encourage you to check trigger warnings. It's pretty much CNC encounters, torture, there are previous mentions of SA from childhood, infertility, infidelity, extortion, stalking, and extreme bullying.
The story is of a female childhood bully that did whatever she could to have control over her target. She pushed boundaries and didn't care what she did because mom and dads money always got her out of trouble. Meet the MFC- Allison. She was nasty as a teenager and bullied to exert that power over others. She is the typical blonde with a nice figure, married and displays the perfect life. This is far from the truth. She has a husband who isn't faithful, medical issues with infertility, and financial problems.
Meet Jared the MMC. He was abused not only by his school bully Allison but at the hands of his father. It got to the point where he wanted to end his life but a man intercepted him and spoke to the art of revenge and took him under his wing where he has went through and destroyed the peoples life that bullied him or caused him harm.
The story ends in a cliffhanger which now I can't wait to read the next book and find out more. Does this turn into an enemy to lovers situation.....

I received a copy of this book free in order to review.
Holy mind f*ck.
I'll ease into this if you need some time to decide to keep going.
This book has several dark trigger warnings ⚠️ Take care to read those if you're affected.
Some light BDSM, violence, r*pe and bullying involved.
This is a cliffhanger. There is NO happy ending. I'm not saying that to discourage readers, I'm telling you it's packed till the very end that leaves you ready for the next one.
This is a steamy plot driven thriller, in my opinion. It's not just straight smut, there is a good storyline and variety of encounters. The plot itself is wild and twisted.
I try not to say anything to give away good the plot or direction so here goes:
From the beginning it starts fast and you're hooked like what the hell just happened. Revenge is a big key here. It is mildly dark. I feel fairly new to the dark side and i was not uncomfortable with anything in the book. There is some hella good s*x scenes and let me tell you this author can write some steam onto those pages. This author is very illustrative and the scenes are set so well I feel like I'm there. I absolutely burned through the last half of this book and the ending literally caught me by surprise, movie style. I am looking forward to reading the next part and the this one hasn't even officially been released yet! Anne, bravo, you've created a monster.
Plot: Jared was horrifically bullied growing up and plots revenge on her his bully, Alison.
Dark Bully Romance. Dual POV. Make sure to read the list of trigger warnings before you start the book. There are many.
I did not find Alison likeable throughout this book and I couldn't help but root for Jared. But Alison finally rallied through in some growth by the end of the story.....or dare I say cliffhanger. The pace of the book was a little slow for my liking as it took several chapters just to even get Alison from her office where she signs the contract, to her home, to his home.
For me it started to get interesting almost halfway through the book. When we started to see and learn more of what happened to Jared, how he got to where he is now and what he now does as work.
The language was overly flowery and advanced for my taste, it just didn't feel realistic to use these words in normal conversation between these characters, particularly in the flashbacks at the beginning as I don't feel a normal teen would use the words they used in normal conversation.
BUT I do have to say that the sexy scenes were HOT. Like very spicy. So I thoroughly enjoyed that part of the book outside of the intrigue sprinkled in through Jared's work. So if you are looking for some hot scenes and are not too troubled with triggers or where the story is going, or not going, you should consider reading this book.
ARC Reader! Please please please read the trigger warnings before starting this book. It is a bully dark romance, with every trigger you can think of. This was my first book by Anne T. Thyssen, story line I’d give ⭐️⭐️⭐️. Spice I give it 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️. The ending is a FAT cliffhanger. If you’re wanting lots of spice with a hint of story line this is the book for you! Emotions are crazy high. Will leave you thinking you know what’s going to happen then you’ll be wrong 🙃
Small spoilers: ❤️ I think the MMC actually loves the FMC rather than hated her. The things she did to him in high school was definitely traumatic for him but the way things are explained during flashbacks makes me believe that it was a case of Stockholm syndrome. 🌶️ The spice scene are great! Personally when he chases her in the house is my favorite. Although in-between those scenes I thought a few areas could have been better. 🤷🏼♀️ Some of the times he tries to humiliate her I thought were a bit odd. He tries to capture a few of the same things she did to him that I completely saw the parallel but then others were just odd. For example, he thinks that making her org@sm or doing things no one else have done (like eating her out or anal play) will be embarrassing to her but you don’t really see from her side that it is actually THAT embarrassing for her. 🦠 Last thing, I am a big germ person. So a few things made me think “ew that is disgusting.” Example, food being shoved in her face and her not being able to clean it off & not being able to clean herself after spice scenes. I understood the point of making her feel dirty and used but as a germ person it was almost a turn away. Other areas of the book made up for it though. 👫🏻 His work life gives Alex Volkov vibes, hot millionaire killer. Her attuned gives Nesta Archeron vibes, hates everything but knows it her own fault but fails to acknowledge it until the end.

***ARC REVIEW*** Book: Payback Author: Anne T. Thyssen Rate: 4.75 🌟 Spice: 3 🌶️ Genre: Dark Romance
~ This is my first time reading a book by Anne Thyssen. I was sure very intrigued by reading Payback, it was totally different and when I mean totally different I don’t mean like oh it was cheesy or fruity, nah it’s still a dark novel it just more about revenge against a bully plus blackmail, like the title says it all… that’s what got me to join her ARC team. Yet I do still think is enemies that will possibly turn into lovers but TBT I guess. Jared MMC was an Emo kid in HS where Alison FMC had what we can say this obsession to always bully the poor boy! But the table gets turned once they hit adulthood because Jared becomes this hot hunk of a man that makes his life work by getting dirt on the people that did him wrong. This is how he plans on getting his juicy payback on Alison. Alison is now married, she owns her own business, and everything is great you may say… The storyline, the plot and the spice is great in the book, some might not like how Jared gets his Payback but come on now…. Think about it, don’t you think that they might really have a thing for each other? Because let’s just say some scenes will leave you thinking like this is the reason why!!! Now that ending will leave you like OMG!!! Cliffhanger!!! Surely can’t wait for book 2 to come out!!!
Book one in de Dark Revenge Series Check trigger warnings bevor reading!
This story is about Jared and Allison. They know each other since school and she bullied him throughout his entire school years. She did a lot of f*cked up stuff to him with the help of her friends. She never got punished from school because her family is wealthy and his dad is an alcoholic and abusive so some money from her family erased everything. All that mattered to her family was status and that the perfect family façade was upright. Jared disappeared bevor graduation and met Vince who took him in. After all those years she is still that b*tch she was back then. Jared destroyed the lives of the people who helped bullying him but he kept Allison for his last victim. He had a special treatment for her. He blackmailed her into selling herself to him for a month. The lines between them get a bit blurry after some things happened. Jared’s job had a bad ending so shit hit the fan and were left with a big ass cliffhanger.
Jared went through so much I just want to hug and cuddle him. If his home life wasn’t bad enough he had this b*tch at school waiting for him. I never dispised a FMC more than Allison. The flashbacks he had just broke my heart and everyone just got worse and worse. I wanted to strangle her so badly for what she put him through.
This is 100% a dark Romance and not a fairytale. Please, please check your trigger warnings. I only have good things to say about this book! Kept me on the hook the whole time and kept me guessing.
Jared our MMC was the victim of major bullying in high School and has been on a path for vengeance. He's charged his Life in many ways since he was last face to face with the mastermind of his high School trauma. Now sweet revenge is in his grasp, and he has no plan to stop until her world is burned to ash.
Allison our FMC was the Queen of the high school, has moved on from her high School pranks to live her "perfect" life. She's now married to a well established man and is the CEO of her own modeling agency. Everything was great until her past comes back to bite her and threatens to blow up her perfect facade.
So much is revealed with their flashbacks and learning how to handle the situation they are in. Twists and hurts keep you hooked until your begging for Corruption to already be released because of the ending.
First off, make sure you check TRIGGER WARNINGS! Payback is a dark, bully, revenge book. The mmc Jared's childhood was plagued with severe abuse and bullying at home and at school. When he reaches the breaking point and almost ends things, Vincent enters his life and Jared completely transforms his life.
Now Jared is ready to make those who made his life difficult pay. The final recipient of his revenge is Alison Brown. She partook and instructed others to physically and verbally torture him daily even referring to him as "doggy". Jared has evidence of wrongs Alison and her husband have committed. To prevent the exposure, Alison must stay with Jared and do everything he says without question for a month.
The relationship between Alison and Jared is complex and gritty. They have always resented and hated each other. Now they are living together and finding out things about the other that changes some of their perceptions. Payback is an amazing book, full of intrigue, revenge, and a lot of spice! It does end with a MAJOR CLIFFHANGER!!! I can't wait until the next book comes out!
This book could honestly be a full five stars. The only reason it isn't is because there is just something in my mind telling me "not yet".
I seriously went into this book not expecting the outcome we got at all. I thought it'd be a cute little snutty read with some decent triggers but OH.MY.GOSH🤯 Definitely check the triggers for this one!
This book was a great read for me and if these had discreet covers, I would definitely be more inclined to purchase the physical copies. I have, however, contemplated getting KU and knowing that this series is on there, I'm even more tempted.
I have never disliked an FMC and loved and MMC so quickly and STILL rooted for them to work! Both of these characters are majorly flawed and I love it so much. It makes them seem more realistic compared to other characters in books. I cannot wait to see what happens next!
If you want a book with plenty of spicy chapters, an unconventional Dom-Sub/Master-Slave relationship, stalking, bully-revenge, gore, etc., PLEASE pick up this book! So good!!
Just a fore-warning.. this is NOT a standalone series like I thought it was and this book does NOT have an HEA (yet hopefully🤞🏻)
I tried with this one. I really tried. The premise was so promising but between the one-dimensional main characters, awkward dialogue, and absolutely cartoonish depiction of bullying, I just can't continue.
To all authors who are not from the US, but their story takes place in the US: Please. I am begging you. On my hands and knees. Hire beta readers from the US to help you with dialogue and culture. If I have to read someone actually say "Honey, I'm home," ONE MORE TIME.
There were so many awful, cringy dialogue choices but these are two of the most egregious:
“No, I didn’t! If you believe I derive any enjoyment from having my ass spanked so fiercely that it smolders with an inner fire, you’re mistaken! I’m not a masochist-slash-sadist like yourself!” 💀
and...
"Alison, I trust you about as much as I'd trust a shark while I’m dressed in meat clothing," FFS.
Absolutely wild that there are five books of these two morons. Maybe they get better as the series progresses, but I will not be sticking around to find out.
