J. Box. After hunting down a rogue spy as part of an elite CIA counterespionage unit, Garrett Kohl returns home to Texas in hopes of settling down and carving out a normal life. While learning the ropes of fatherhood, falling deeper in love with his high school crush, and rebuilding his wildfire ravaged cattle ranch, he is approached in secret by an engineer working at a nearby nuclear weapons plant, who is in desperate need of his help. Utilizing a unique skill set—abilities Garrett has honed as a deep cover narcotics agent and former Green Beret—he embarks on an  off-the-books  investigation and learns that Iranian operatives are blackmailing weapons facility employees and potentially planning a devastating act of sabotage and destruction. Already engaged in an intense shadow war with Tehran and their Quds Force spies, Garrett’s CIA team rallies to take down the extortionists and dismantle their operation. But before they can get their mission under way, enemy commandos hijack a train carrying nuclear weapons, and activate a lone wolf assassin to murder the visiting U.S. Secretary of Defense. Caught flatfooted by the sudden attack, Garrett musters the only help he can find—a ragtag crew of outcasts and outlaws, some of whom he’d once put behind bars. Although they’re from different walks of life, and opposite sides of the law, they hold in common the deep desire to protect their homes, their families, and their way of life on the remote, wild, and alluring Texas High Plains.

Another terrific read by Taylor Moore!

With the author being ex CIA, you can expect to see some spies and a lot of action in this modern cowboy series.

Garrett is such a cool and likable protagonist. His ranch in the Texas panhandle barely survives the fire in the previous book and there are more obstacles in Ricochet. Will there be a break for Garrett, his dad, and Asadi?

There are some ruthless characters and enterprises that look to take advantage of Garrett which makes me nervous for what's to come but I have faith in this former Green Beret/Narcotics agent. Garrett just wants to be home with his family but I don't know.... the epilogue left me wondering!

A buddy read with Jennifer.

This has been a great series so far. Garrett continues to juggle his priorities which are Asadi, his adopted son, his relationship with Butch, his father, Lacey, his true love, Crowley, the crooked sheriff, his work with Kim from the CIA, trying to save his ranch and did I mention ….. fighting terrorist on the home front. Busy guy …
Needless to say, there is plenty of action. This book is very hard to put down once you jump on the rollercoaster of action. This is very good read for my GR friends.

The first I’ve read in the series and it was definitely fun. However, the usual thriller novel tropes and cliches were ok and to be expected but what really annoyed me was the decisions made by the protagonists that made absolutely no sense. Such as: chasing down an armored and armed train with a helicopter - your guys have guns and explosives so what do you do? Try some daring maneuvers to land people on the train to blast their way in all the while taking machine gun fire from the train. And you do this more than one time almost killing your crew before you come up with the suddenly genius idea of simply flying further down the tracks and blowing them up to derail the train. This and several other similar situations held me back from a 4 or 5 star rating.

4.5 stars. This is the third in the series and they have all been excellent. Full of moments when you can’t imagine how they will survive, succeed, or stay together. This book is both emotional and full of adrenaline. I have not been disappointed yet. This was a buddy read with my friend, Kay.

Ricochet by Taylor Moore is by far the best book in this series about Garret Kohl. He is still having troubles paying his debts but he has a plan for that. He just hopes that nothing will hqappen to disturb his work... I found the book well written and entertaining as usual but this time the usual suspect don't do what you would expect. Of course there will be trouble, what did you expect. This series has only gotten better for every book and now I wonder what will happen next.

Well the gang’s all back in this third installment. Garrett is back home from his latest CIA/DEA assignment, and just wanting to stay home and spend time with his newly adopted son, Asadi, the Iranian boy he saved in Afghanistan, and his girlfriend and childhood sweetheart, Lacey. After the last installment, he also needs to build his ranch back up with the help of his crusty old dad, Butch, and his annoying big brother, Bridger. However, Garrett’s homecoming is short lived and, in this installment, the international espionage and terrorist attacks are now in Garrett’s neck of the woods of Canadian, in the Texas panhandle.

The book summary pretty much lays out the entire primary storyline and premise of an Iranian-American engineer, Liam, at the local nuclear weapons plant, who is being blackmailed to help an Iranian terrorist group, who has abducted and is torturing Liam’s father. Garrett and his rag-tag band of friends and former enemy help him thwart the terrorists. There is also another storyline where Vickie (a sleazebag from the last installment), is trying to steal Garrett’s ranch so that she can take advantage of the water and resources the land provides. There is also another storyline of Asadi, learning how to handle a bully at school.

Early in the story, Lacey is injured helping Garrett with his assignment of meeting an informant at the nuclear weapons facility. Garrett and his team first try to capture the terrorists (who chased Lacey and ran her off the road) who stole a bunch of nuclear warheads, and then later they’re trying thwart the terrorist’s plans to escape with the warheads for target sites unknown. In the meantime, Kim (Garrett’s CIA boss) is at the nuclear weapons facility where a bomb went off during a dignitary’s visit and Kim is tasked with identifying and capturing the inside traitor working with the terrorists.

As to be expected with any Garrett Kohl story, murder and mayhem ensues, and intense and scary scenes abound all over the panhandle. There are shocking revelations of the depth of the conspiracy and terrorist attack. There are clear lines drawn between the good guys and the bad guys and they don’t all were black or white hats. The epilogue reveals some shocking betrayals and the lead in for the next installment.

I really enjoyed the continued character development of Asadi as well as his and Garrett’s deepening relationship. Learning more about Kim and her motivations was an eye opener. The pacing was fast-paced and action-packed and the storyline interesting even if totally unbelievable. I don’t care how believable a story is, just as long as it’s interesting and entertaining. The writing was to be expected from Taylor Moore and his Garrett Kohl series. I also really enjoyed Jeremy Arthur’s narration, which portrayed the characters sufficiently. I’m looking at an overall rating of 4.3 that I will be rounding down to a 4star rating.

The 3rd book in the Garrett Kohl series continues with the CIA agent struggling to balance his uber demanding work fighting terrorists with a home life that includes a foster child and a fiancee who both wish he’d stay home. But this is an action thriller series, so no matter how altruistic his intentions, preserving the safety of his country is inevitably going to win out.

The Kohl ranch in the Texas panhandle is once again the epicentre of a major threat to peace in the US and, fortunately, Garrett Kohl is on hand to fight a terrorist group hellbent on destruction. Not only are stolen nuclear weapons involved but a plot to assassinate the US Secretary of Defense has been put in motion.

The threat is in his backyard so Kohl jumps into action and manages to cobble together a team of allies, each with certain useful skills, to thwart these enemies. Together they come up with a less than perfect plan that requires what I would consider, typical action novel luck and acumen to succeed. It’s good, solid entertainment that did the trick of keeping me wholly engrossed for the duration.

As has become obvious as the series has progressed, family and home is everything to Garrett Kohl. There's nothing he won't do to protect them and the measures he'll take are as extreme as they come. The family ranch has been under threat, the safety of Asadi has been paramount and his love for Lacey continues to deepen. Understanding what has gone before and the danger his family and home have been placed under in the previous books is not necessarily essential but would help to put the events of Ricochet into greater context.

I’ve found this to be a strong series to date and there’s clearly more in store for Garrett Kohl and his friends and family.

My first exposure to Taylor Moore, and I’m a huge fan! Garrett Kohl is a cool protagonist. The cowboy side of having a ranch in the Texas Panhandle is refreshing. I’m going to get books 1&2 and devour them! I’m thankful that Ricochet is only the third in the series. I get to grow with the series and characters.

Thanks to the publisher for gifting me an ARC as a Goodreads giveaway in exchange for my thoughts.

I received a free copy of, Ricochet, by Taylor Moore, from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Elite CIA agent Garrett Kohl, just wants to return to his hometown in Texas, and relax. Enjoy family life in his close town. Garrett is asked to do an uncover assignment, and things do not go as planned. I enjoyed this book, not my typical read, but enjoyable.

(2 1/2). I am in a real quandary about this book. Does non-stop action overtake sappiness? There is tons of the former and way more than a touch too much of the latter. I guess I let my inner "guy" let me mark it up to 3 instead of down to 2. Garrett Kohl is a solid protagonist and this story is so over the top, fast moving and convoluted that you just sit and spin half the time you are reading it. But Moore needs to clean up all the heartstring tugging crap or I will never come back, and I still may not. Reasonable stuff.

Another excellent Garrett Kohl novel. The author pulls a bait and switch, leading the reader to believe the story will be Garrett returning to Afghanistan to retrieve Asadi's missing, previously assumed dead brother.
But the actual story is right in Kohl's back yard, involving a nuclear weapons storage facility, an Iranian Quds team and an on-site traitor.
Plenty of family drama, guns blazing and fisticuffs bring this tale to a crescendo.

Taylor Moore continues this fun spy/modern cowboy series featuring the proud Texan Gerrett Kohl, friends and his family...From confronting drug cartels to Iranian-based terrorist activities, we've pretty much covered the gamut of stories with most of the action centered in the Texas Panhandle...In "Ricochet," Kohl comes to the aid of Iranian American engineer, working at a nuclear weapons facility, being blackmailed by Iranian terrorists...Quite a guilty pleasure read as the pages just fly by!

I stumbled into Taylor Moore's debut novel at my local book store a few years back, and have been an avid follower ever since. I've been looking forward to the release of Ricochet, and was excited to get a head start after receiving an advanced copy from the publisher.

While the novel is enjoyable on its own, I think it would serve the reader best to start the series from the beginning, as part of the enjoyment of Ricochet was having two books worth of character development leading in, and knowledge of prior events that tie in to Ricochet's plot. The novel is fast paced, has a compelling plot line and a satisfying ending, while leaving enough question marks to keep you guessing about what's next for Garrett Kohl.

If you haven't read the first two novels in the Garrett Kohl series, go get Ricochet, shelve it, and start the series from the beginning, you won't regret it!

This was the third book in the series about character Garrett Kohl. It was by far the best. I really enjoyed the fast pace of this book and would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys fast paced mystery and action in a novel. I look forward to his next book.

A great read that took me by surprise. Garrett has one mission left before he can go home to his ranch and go back to a normal life. This last mission is one that he won't forget. I love how Taylor Moore included each walk of life and made them all work together in order to achieve their goal. I am definitely grabbing the first two books. Get ready for some fun y'all!!

This is Taylor Moore's third book set in the Panhandle of Texas trying to make it on a ranch while keeping his military connections active, with the combined incomes, barely reaching the survival level in this unforgiving landscape. The fires mentioned in this reading actually occurred and since its publication, another has burned in the town of Canadian. He does an excellent job of describing the geography of the area while developing his thrilling story. Combining cowboying, love relations, school issues, and international spies in a real setting provides for a very entertaining read.
I see Taylor Moore as an up-and-coming author who will soon have books on everyone's adventure shelf. He has a good start.

Another fabulous special ops meets West Texas page turner by Taylor Moore. Both an excellent writer and engaging storyteller, Moore transports the reader into the story with his atmospheric prose and page-turning action. As I "read" this via audiobook, I must give compliments to the selection of Jeremy Arthur as narrator. Arthur's pronunciation and cadence is Texas-perfection... making the story, and our connection with protagonist Garrett Kohl and his family, that much more enjoyable. Special ops - international crimes and intrigue - family - loyal friendships. The Garrett Kohl series has it all. Buckle up for a great ride! This would make a great film or series.

I liked this book a lot. While part of a series, it stood alone well and I did not feel it necessary to stop and read the others- though the main character and the supporting ones are compelling enough that I may try. Very action packed and with decent and complicated bad guys. Would recommend this book for sure but likely the whole series is just as good.

Solid story that turns into a superhero movie by the end. Enjoyed it being more grounded and character built, and then it went a little too big.

Thanks Netgalley for allowing me to read this book. Garrett has seen everything bad in this world. He is enjoying being hone with his family. When he is approached about a new mission, he collaborates with his friends. This book lagged in a few places.

I think I'm done with this series which is a shame because I basically like the characters. The endless product placement (I don't care that he handed Liam a Moore Maker knife or what brand of cowboy shoes he wears) and the unbelievable mission impossible crap is just too much to take.

"Ricochet" by Taylor Moore is a gripping thriller that takes readers on a rollercoaster ride of suspense, action, and deep emotional connections. With meticulously crafted characters and a well-paced plot, Moore delivers a thrilling reading experience that keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.

Garret and his team are in an intense shadow war with Tehran and their Quds force spies, as they pursue relentlessly to take down the terrorist outfits and decimate their operations. Back home in the vast highlands of Texas, Garret’s father Butch, and the Afgan child, Asadi under foster care by Kohl’s family and whom Garrett wanted to legally adopt find themselves in a difficult situation when Asadi learns that the US troops in Afghanistan have spotted a young man that looks very much like his brother. This means that he would soon be sent back to the next of his family.

On the enemy front, while Garrett and his team of outcasts are trying to save their homelands, the enemy commandos hijack a train containing nuclear weapons. They also hired an assassin to kill the US Secretary of Defense. Although Garret’s teammates were predominantly people from the other side of the law, they were committed to safety, security, and their way of life on the remote and wild Texas plains. Garret is in a race against time to thwart the detonation of the nuclear device and hope that the agency's attempt to send Asadi back home is unsuccessful.

Taylor Moore's writing style is particularly noteworthy as he expertly balances adrenaline-pumping action scenes with moments of introspection, allowing readers to delve into the psyche of the main characters. Moore's attention to detail creates a vivid backdrop for the story, making Texas come alive and enhancing the overall atmosphere of tension.

One of the novel's greatest strengths lies in its well-drawn characters. Garret Kohl is a complex and relatable protagonist, haunted by personal demons. His determination to save his farms and seek justice endeared readers to his cause. The supporting characters are equally well-developed, each with their motivations and secrets that add depth and intrigue to the story.

The plot of "Ricochet" is expertly woven, brimming with unexpected twists and turns. Moore knows exactly when to reveal crucial information, keeping readers hooked until the very last page. The pacing is well-balanced, with tense, heart-pounding scenes interspersed with quieter, character-driven moments that allow readers to catch their breath and reflect on the events unfolding.

Taylor Moore's masterful storytelling, well-developed characters, and skillful pacing ensure an immersive reading experience. If you enjoy thrillers that deliver heart-pounding action, "Ricochet" is an excellent choice for your next read.

Garrett Kohl is completing his final mission and paying his debt to the CIA when this book opens. He's promised his adopted Afghan son, Asadi, that he won't be leaving again. He's home for good, focused on rebuilding his Texas Panhandle ranch after a devastating wildfire and deepening his relationship with Lacey.

But, as in each Garrett Kohl novel, the bad guys have other ideas. This time they bring the fight to him.
The Pantex Nuclear facility is the target.

I'm always amazed at how deep the corruption goes in the different agencies and branches of government. This author doesn't shy away from revealing it in a realistic, believable, and knowledgeable way.

So, once again, Kohl and everyone he loves are placed in heart-stopping danger. And while he wants more than anything to protect his family, there is something deeply embedded inside him that won't let him walk away from making every attempt to stop a bold terrorist act that could destroy America.

I love everything about this character. His dedication to and love for his family is the true mark of a hero. He's tough, fearless, and invincible, yet on the other hand, he's stumbling his way through his new role as a father.

This is the third book in this series, and even though the author wrapped up the ending nicely, he left enough loose threads to continue the story. Every book by Moore is well-written, gripping, and realistic. Any of these scenarios could happen. I love the setting, the wide and expansive Texas Panhandle. It's a place where a man can get lost or found, depending on the situation. It was great to revisit all the characters from books one and two and to see how Asadi is adjusting to the ranching way of life. If you love a good thriller with underlying family dynamics, you will enjoy this series by Taylor Moore. Even though each book stands alone, I do recommend starting with the first book, Down Range, to get the characters and their roles established.

Garret Kohl is ready to settle down on his ranch with his father, adopted son, and, hopefully, a new wife. But when he’s called in on another special mission, he runs into multiple problems. He steps up and does what needs to be done. He’ll find himself working with together with his crew of trusted men, friends, and his family to try to defeat the Iranian terrorists who are determined to steal US nuclear bombs.

This book is exceptionally well-written. It’s a page turner that will keep you on the edge of your seat with all the unexpected turns it throws. You’ll find great, realistic characters and a bunch of unexpected heroes. I suspect that you’ll be rooting for the good guys like I was.

My one complaint was occasionally difficult to follow the timeline, but that wasn’t a big problem. Other than that one minor difficulty that was likely dealt with in final editing, this was a gripping story that will hold your attention from beginning to end. This is the third book in the Garret Kohl series, but it can stand on its own. I do think reading them in order will make it easier to understand the connections between the characters and what’s happening, but the author provides enough information to make this easy enough to read on its own. I can’t wait to find out what happens in the next book.

I received an advanced reader copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley. I thank all involved for their generosity, but it had no effect on this review. All opinions in this review reflect my true and honest reactions to reading this book.

Garrett Kohl has completed his obligation with a mission for the CIA and just wants to get home to his ranch and family in Texas. The ranch had recently been damaged by wildfires and Garett faces financial problems. He has also promised his adopted son Asadi that he is home for good. Even in Texas Garrett finds trouble. Iranian agents have been blackmailing Liam, an engineer at a nuclear weapons facility. His father is being held in an Iranian prison and unless he cooperates his father will die. Through his old friend Ike, Liam is put in touch with Garrett, who notifies his CIA contact. A plan is put into place that goes wrong, critically injuring Garrett’s girlfriend Lacey. The Iranians’ goal is the theft of a train carrying nuclear warheads. Garrett and an odd group of enemies and friends stand in the way of a nuclear threat.

This is the third book in Taylor Moore’s Garrett Kohl series. He is a DEA Special Agent and former Green Beret.. On missions he is decisive and displays courage, but now he faces an unfamiliar situation - fatherhood. Luckily he has the support of his father and his brother. It is family and protecting their way of life that brings a newly released convict that Garrett helped put away, a bar owner who is retired from the military, a ranch hand who has had trouble with the law and the blackmailed engineer together to stop the Iranians. Moore provides non-stop action that guarantees an exciting reading experience. I would like to thank NetGalley and William Morrow Publishing for providing this book for my review.

I received this book as a Goodreads giveaway. Set in the Lone Star state, Garrett Kohl is a quite new addition to the diverse stable of heroes operating in the spy thriller genre today, and author Taylor Moore uses him perfectly in Ricochet—a slam-bang, can’t-miss reading adventure that reminds everyone that everything—even the action—really is bigger in Texas.
The plot is predictable and eventually reveals that Iranian operatives are blackmailing workers from a weapons plant in Texas and Kohl realizes that their intentions are to strong-arm employees into helping them sabotage things. Before Kokl can figure out their end game, he and his band of CIA misfits are caught off-guard when a train carrying nuclear weapons is hijacked. But that’s hardly the only threat they face. The United States Secretary of Defense is currently visiting Texas, and Kohl and his team have reason to believe that they’ll be targeted by a capable assassin who’s just been activated and completely unleashed. With the stakes at an all-time high and very limited options to call on for help, Garrett Kohl is forced to ally himself with anyone willing to fight on the side of Texas. Despite some faults, "Richet" is still a solid read with its quick pacing and an overload of intense characters.

I received a free copy of Ricochet by Taylor Moore from the publisher, and I want to thank them for the chance to read an Advanced reader copy.

Garret Kohl is home from another mission that he took on for the CIA, and he's told his family and adopted son, Asadi that he's done with traveling to help the government and the CIA. He wants to stay home, raise and teach his adopted son, and spend some quality time with him. But,that isn't going to happen when he's asked to help a man who works for the government and is being blackmailed by a foreign source, that is going to need to be stopped!

this book is the 3rd in this excellent series, and can be read as a stand alone, though I do recommend that you start with the first book "Down Range" so that you can follow along with all that has gone on since Garret came home with Asadi to start a new life for both of them. on his ranch. The author does a great job of keeping the book going at a good pace, with plenty of descriptive information that I can actually visualize the area in Texas and everyone involved.

This book is a fast paced, action packed story that is well worth reading.

I love this series. Yes, it's a bit implausible, yes it's violent, but yes, it's also got a big heart in Garrett who is the guy you want in tough spots. Garrett Kohl, rancher and DEA Agent, also works with CIA officer Kim on special missions but he's promised his adopted son, Asadi, who he rescued in Afghanistan, that he's staying home. Not. Kim calls him out to help when an engineer at a nuclear production facility admits to being blackmailed by Iran because his father, a former CIA asset, had unwisely decided to visit Iran and is being held in Evin prison. Turns out there's a traitor (actually more than one) in the USG and Kim, who has been charged with identifying him/her, enlists Garrett's help, again. Meanwhile, Asadi is struggling with the school bully and Garrett's romantic interest Lacey is approached by her high school friend, now a wealthy woman, with a proposition. Moore, who is a terrific storytelling, mixes the big scary action with the smaller, more personal moments. You will feel the tension more than once. Thanks to the publisher for the ARC of this real page turner. Best of all, Moore has left a very good opening for another adventure.
