Rate this book
The Old Farmer’s Almanac has been making every day special since 1792, and, with the 2025 edition, it continues this tradition in its inimitable fashion. Trusted by generations from all walks of life for its honesty and accuracy, the Almanac delivers fun facts, predictions, feature articles, and advice across many interest areas to readers who actually live—or aspire to live—the country lifestyle, with the intent of helping them to make better decisions. As a calendar of the heavens, it provides detailed daily astronomical data (Sun/Moon rise/set times, length of day), tide times, and planet/star sightings for every sky watcher, from novice to expert. As a calendar of the year, it presents annual and seasonal events, holidays, anniversaries, and timely trivia; astrological “Best Days” and cycles; and much more for the curious and the conscientious. As a time capsule of the year, it contains cultural trends; weather forecasts and conditions; articles on interesting topics such as gardening, home arts and remedies, amusements and contests, history, husbandry, nature, cooking and recipes, folklore, pets, and sports; and more—all in a way that is “useful, with a pleasant degree of humor. Long recognized as North America’s most beloved and best-selling annual, this handy “little yellow book” is often imitated but never equaled. It is an American icon that instills in readers a feeling of being connected to the history of North America and its people. This edition of the 2025 Almanac features a semi-rigid cover (no hole), which helps to protect the book’s pages—a plus for those who collect the Almanac each year! It also features whiter paper and larger type than what is found in the paperback classic edition, making it even easier to read.

Always interesting, always fun, and something I buy and read every year. Just as an FYI, the weather predictions beginning in January are Wrong (once again). I know they are probably just for fun "predictions" that they put out but here's just one for instance:

For last week 2-8 February here in Texas. Prediction: Rainy and cold... actual temps in the mid 80s, warm and sunny.

For today (St Valentines Day 2/14/25) here in Texas: Prediction: Sunny and warm... actually it's cloudy, windy, and icy cold (High 45 degrees and expected overnight into the low 30s).

So read it for entertainment but the weather stuff is rarely correct... and when it is it is probably due to pure, dumb luck.

My first almanac! There’s a lot to enjoy and I expect to reference the weather section throughout the year. Who knows, maybe I’ll even try planting by moon cycles!

Loved the updated version of this book, especially the plant “cheats”! Deducted a star for AI art, which I believe should fall far below the standards of
such a well-respected series (especially one that is known for its “homespun” authenticity!).

This is a great read! I always wait, with great anticipation, for this almanac to come out every year! It is full of ideas for gardening, and weather information plus fishing and astronomy and sports. I read it from cover to cover. I am never disappointed! If you want some down home fun, read “The Old Farmer’s Almanac 2025.” A fun read!

how the heck do I rate a “book” about crops and weather?! honestly yeah I’ll give it 4 stars because I read every word and geeked out over the section about the asteroid that will hit Earth in 2300. oh and also they’re trying to make strawberries taste like vanilla…move over cotton candy grapes!!!!

so yeah… I read this out loud to my boyfriend and caught him falling asleep but it’s okay…I was just excited because FARMING!!!

Now that I am in agriculture, I own bees. The Old Farmer's Almanac is a really great resource for what to expect for the year. It gives you a great amount of information about weather, tides, moon phases, star phases, and anything else you can think of. I will definitely continue to buy this book every year so that I can help my bees and my garden.

I'm not sure how relevant the old farmer's almanac is anymore in this day and age of storms galore but I was definitely entertained by the weird advertisements for like magic pills and shit so its a nice read for when you just want to take a ride to crazyland. Any astrology believers would enjoy this. They also had a feature article about cats in this one. Lovable in a old fashioned sorta way.

The original almanac started in 1792. Tells the weather for the coming year, phases of the moon, when the planets align, when to plant beans, what time to fish, when to breed you livestock, and contacts with card readers and psychics. Everything a modern person needs.

Cat curiosities explained , snug as a bug in a hug, 2025 trends, astronomical timetables, gardening and more gardening. What’s not to like? First time I’ve checked it out from the library in hardback. Gotta return it this weekend. A cool read for the start of a New Year!

A great addition of the series. I have always liked these since I was a kid and appreciate all of the folksy elements and useful information. This edition in particular has some really interesting articles too.

Very interesting. I didn't read the entire thing, but I've always wanted to read an almanac. I do need to spend more time with the charts.

Each year I get this publication to refer to during the year in question; but I try to purchase and read this book in the fall from cover to cover. I have done so, once again, and enjoyed my reading of this publication.

The Almanac does much more than give general weather predictions for the United States. It has articles about the moon, gardening, farming, and other items, contains tables for planting by the phases of the moon, gives the recipes for dishes that won the cooking contest announced in the previous year's Almanac, has non-vetted advertisements for Lucky oils and stoves, and lets one know where the visible planets will be during the upcoming year. And if you need to know when the cat will have her kittens, or what to use in the recipe if you do not have buttermilk, or if it is safe to eat the chicken that has been in the freezer for six months, this publication can answer these questions.

I hesitate to say how many years I have been reading this publication, but I hope I can continue to do so for as many years as the good Lord sees fit to give me.

My paternal grandfather always used the Farmer’s Almanac

I enjoyed reading this year’s Farmer’s Almanac and checking all the charts and tables. I now see why my paternal grandfather relied on it!
