About the author

Alyssa Satin Capucilli was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1957. She graduated from Sarah Lawrence College, and pursued her interest in dance, becoming a professional dancer and dance instructor. Though Capucilli had written stories, poems, and even puppet shows as a child, she didn't consider a career as a writer until after her own two children were born. To this day she sees herself as both a dancer and a writer, and the two professions complement each other nicely: dancing is, in her words, “telling stories in another way,” and readers of her children's books can attest to the rhythm of her language. Since 1994, she has written more than 15 books for children, and her work has been translated into French, Hebrew, Afrikaans, Greek, and Bulgarian.

Capucilli lives in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York, with her husband and children. They have a chocolate Labrador retriever named Huckleberry, who likes to watch the author at work.

The only Biscuit at the local library we had yet to read. The art is less charming when it's only a fire station and the things inside, but Biscuit is still adorable.

I have read this book approximately 5x a day for about a week since my toddler demands it while sitting on the potty. Therefore I am counting it towards my reading challenge. Spoilers: Biscuit is scared of the fire truck's siren, so we affirm his feelings and comfort him. Dottie the fire station Dalmatian is introduced, however I don't believe she will be a reoccurring character like Puddles unless Biscuit returns to the fire station. There is a female firefighter so points for inclusion. 5 stars because it keeps my child on the potty long enough to pee.

Biscuit books are always cute and friendly for kids and this one is no exception, especially if you have a child that is in their fire truck phase. I check this out because my grandson is really into going to the fire house and so I know he will love this book. He has also seen 101 dalmatians and so he knows about dalmatians and will be excited to see that this book has one. The only disappointment is biscuit. Does not get to ride or go in a fire truck.
