Grace is a young orphan who has run away from the children’s home with just one aim in mind: she is going to convince the witch who lives in the nearby woods to take her on as an apprentice. After all, she knows she can do a little magic; so what if she can’t control it? What Grace doesn’t realise is that the witch is as bad as the locals say. However, a she doesn’t want to return to the dreary orphanage, she makes a deal with the witch. Grace now has to learn all the 100½ spells in the witch’s grimoire within the next 7-8 months, or else she has to surrender her magic to the witch. Will Grace be able to save herself and her magic?
"This is simply the most wonderful thing that’s ever happened to me. Not that I’ve experienced many wonderful things, given that mine has been a life of tragedy.”In this Anne of Green Gables (and Hansel & Gretel) remake, we follow Grace - a young orphan girl who is convinced she is good at magic...after all she already has a familiar, a young crow named Windweaver.
The witch rubbed between her eyes.
And, of course, things get off to a bumpy start with her witch.
"The witch lived somewhere deep in the woods - she lured children in and ate them ... But the witch didn't need to lure Grace. Grace was looking for her."
But after much convincing, the witch agrees to take in Grace on a trial basis. For now. But the witch requires for Grace to complete a series of tasks - or she will forfeit her spot as an apprentice. And that's not even factoring in the witch's failing health and the monster that's lurking around, threatening everyone.
"Grace lifted her head and found that the window in question was actually the window of the witch's big oven, and Grace was inside it."
What an absolutely lovely Anne remake - I've been on such a Green Gables kick and was so delighted to find this one.
"I love being magic. It's the best thing - the only good thing -" She stopped. "I just wish I could be the good kind of magic, not the bad."
