Skottie Young has been an illustrator and cartoonist for over ten years working for entertainment and publishing companies such Marvel, Warner Bros., Image, Upper Deck, Mattel, and many more.

He is currently illustrating the New York Times Best Selling and Eisner Award Nominated adaptions of L. Frank Baum's OZ novels with writer Eric Shanower. The series has gained acclaim from both fans and critics.

Skottie currently lives in Illinois with his family, Casey, Baxter and their Saint Bernard, Emma.

Another chapter filled with dark humour and chaotic fantasy, in the unmistakable style this series has already made us grow to love.

I’m disappointed in this one. The artwork is great but I just didn’t find it as funny as the others. I’m not sure if it’s run it’s course but this one just felt like not much happened and was doing the same things over. There wasn’t any real plot or character development even if there was a couple funny moments.

This series really is past it's used by date at this point but I'm going to continue to read it because I just love the art so much and it does still make me laugh.

Fluffin great.
Esta segunda etapa me está gustando aún más que la primera.

Nos hemos unido a la moda del multiverso, Gertverse supongo, y además de que sus otras versiones son buenísimas (todas con dientes realmente malos), ¿solucionó? de esta forma un detalle de la historia que se ve que quería revertir.
A mi me gustaba Guert adulta pero por algo lo habrá hecho.

Mención especial a Guert versión dragón, podría haber leido varios capítulos de ella así.
Y Duncan creció MUCHO ¿por qué él si y ella no? quién sabe! acá todo es posible.

Este volumen fue diferente, increíblemente. Y muy bueno el final con Cloudia modo Prison Break cayendo en el mundo real. Quiero ver como sigue eso.

In I Hate Fairyland Volume 6, Gertrude, still trapped in the whimsical and violent world of Fairyland, continues her chaotic and bloody quest to escape. Her reckless antics, combined with her sharp wit and violent tendencies, lead to even more outrageous and hilarious adventures.

This volume delivers everything this series is known for —dark humor, over-the-top violence, and vivid, beautifully coloured and imaginative artwork. It perfectly balances the absurdity and humor, making it an absolute joy of a twisted and fantastical journey.

Gert is back!!! While the description might not be spot on, this volume does give us all the hilarity we're used to. Insane fight scenes, hilarious moments, funny dialogue, and great storytelling are all present. The book picks up some of the pieces from the original run and its great. Bean's art is a treat especially the epic splash pages. I felt the book did rely too heavily on some of those pages/sequences as the book felt very light. Overall, another funny and fun read.

Another fun time with Gert in Fairyland - I loved the multiple versions of Gert, the return of a few old characters, and just how bonkers this all was again!

It had some good moments, but this volume also had some near misses for me.

It’s just not quite as good as the original series which is a shame.

This is one series where each book is just as good and gory as the last! I absolutely love this series. It’s a fantastic mashup of fun colorful fairyland and the most gruesome gore I’ve ever seen. Think Alice in Wonderland on cocaine.

This is a little closer to the first series. And it most definitely ended with me wanting more.

Jedna z moich absolutnie ulubionych serii komiksowych NIENAWIDZĘ BAŚNIOWA... wprawdzie czytałam dopiero dwa tomy (5 i 6), ale bezwzględnie uległam dzikiemu urokowi tej opowieści i tej bohaterki. Tom 6 DO OSTATNIEJ GERT prezentuje się obłędnie, łapie za stopy i łaskocze do bólu.
Przede wszystkim GERT! Postać, która jednocześnie jest obrzydliwa i czarująca. Mamy do czynienia z fajerwerkiem sprzeczności i to działa - i to jak działa! Ten wulkan energii potrafi rozerwać każdego na malutkie kawałeczki... a co by było, gdyby GERT było parę? Cóż... MASAKRA! I ta masakra wydarzyła się własnie w tomie 6, w którym nasza bohaterka musi zabić samą siebie by wydostać się z tego FUJOWEGO BAŚNIOWA!!! Genialne!
Dla mnie pomysł na fabułę jest wybitny. To połączenie komedii z horrorem, krwawej jatki z baśnią, 40-letniej kobiety zamkniętej w ciele dziewczynki - to nie mogło się nie udać a już na pewno nie mogło się nie udać z tymi twórcami. Skottie Young dał popis talentu, stworzył scenariusz wybuchowy, trzaskający płomieniami wściekłości, iskrzący się ogniem piekielnym i gromiący krwawą wyliczanką. Kawał świetnego komiksowego mięsa, w którym każdy dialog szokuje celnością, humorem i najlepszymi baśniowymi przekleństwami świata. Słowotwórstwo na poziomie w FUJ mocnym!
I oczywiście genialny Brett Bean! Ilustracje w tej serii, to jest złoto. Totalnie moja estetyka, w której odnajduję zarówno wspaniały, baśniowy klimat, jak i grozę wyrwaną prosto z DRACULI. Kreska Beana jest zawadiacka, tnąca jak siekiera, elastyczna, miękka i ostra, bajkowa i horrorowa - cuuuuudo. Muszę też wspomnieć o olśniewająco dobranych kolorach, za które odpowiada Jean-Francois Beaulieu. Naprawdę nie ma się do czego przyczepić. Świetna, rewelacyjna zabawa, ale i psychologiczna jazda bez trzymanki.
Pod względem metaforycznym rzuca nam się w oczy dorosła kobieta zamknięta w ciele dziecka - głębokie! Jest rozdwojenie, a właściwie do rozmnożenie wielokrotne GERT, która by odnaleźć drogę do domu, musi zabić te inne GERT, te wersje siebie, które przeszkadzają jej w odnalezieniu spokoju. Pozornie piekielna zabawa a pod powierzchnią dramat jednostki, zagubionej w świecie, który ją wnerwia, przeraża i niszczy. Cóż - GENIALNY KOMIKS i tyle! Wszystko w punkt.

I did not catch this until starting to review this title - but Brian Bean is the actual illustrator of this series (with Skottie Young handling the story.

Colour me impressed as Bean aped the style so well that this fact went unnoticed by myself.

So due to the events in I Hate Fairyland, Vol. 5: Gert's Inferno, Gert now officially finds herself once again stuck in Fairyland, but this time no longer under the same circumstances as in Volumes 1-4 (she is no longer on a magical quest, and she no longer has the protections from questing).

This is a Fairyland that has somewhat healed from her initial decades of rampaging (the Narrating Moon is back), but it is also a land where the consequences are now building up for Gert.

Vol 6 is great and if you like awesome things, you should read it - but I would advise waiting on the release of Vol 7 before picking one up - you can th.ank me later!

There are very few books that make me laugh out loud when I'm reading them. There's even fewer that make me laugh hard enough to have my stomach hurt and I have to stop reading for a minute to calm myself down. This is one of those few stories that makes my stomach hurt from laughing. The art and the story go so well together with this series, showing the artist and the author definitely understand each other when it comes to action shots and comedic timing. I love reading about Gert's misadventures and how things keep going sideways for her. And with how this book ended, I'm really interested in seeing how things will turn out in the next volume. It was a cliffhanger that I have to see resolved, so I'm definitely looking forward to the next book!

Don't be fooled - while the title sounds pretty final, this is not the end of the I Hate Fairyland story. Gert has to deal with new allies and new enemies as she tries to return to her home again. But Gert's personality sabotages one, and the other plays out about as one might expect (with plenty of violence and cynicism, but enough humor to pour over the hard edges). This is not a super-deep concept (although it does throw up some interesting questions on various topics), but it's an absurd, fun small-scale book that does manage to throw some surprised in.

Tahle recenze se dá shrnout do pěti slov a to sice: draci, krev a hodně Gerd. Jinak je to dost repetetavní. Gerda je uvíznutá v Pohádkově, s Láďovou pomocí vymyslí nějaký pochybný plán, pokusí se ho zrealizovat a ono to nevyjde. Upřímně mě to už ani moc nebaví a působí to na mě, že autoři pokračují už jen že setrvačnosti, než že by je to ještě bavilo psát. Četla jsem i horší věci, to nemohu říci, ale taky nemohu říci, že by mi to nějak zůstalo v paměti. Setrvačnost a naděje ve zlepšení je tudíž asi má jediná motivace dál pokračovat ve čtení téhle série.

Art-wise its a fun concept, but story-wise it feels like the writer ran out of ideas, and is just pulling old work out to fulfill a contract. The werewoodle is adorable, why not work with that? Some of the incarnations don't look familiar, why not tell those stories instead? A Pebbles Gert that looks like a thug from a Noir movie? There's going to be a great story. And the one-eyed SF Gert, now what is that spoofing, again?

More, the bs plot points
- if the Queen or King could send a child home, why didn't Queen Gert send herself home?
- If the writer is going to pretend time-travel paradoxes simply don't exist in Fairyland, then what's the point of any of it? Go back and forth any time.
- Same with the dead returning - nothing really dies permanently, so nothing means anything/matters. Its not a 'slippery slope', its a 'self-annihilating trope'.
- If young Gert had killed older Gert, a) older Gert would know that and b) Gert would never move past that day, in her life.
- How is it that Duncan Dragon gets to grow bigger and older in Fairyland, but not Gert?

Just let Gert have FUN. Find monsters, build a city, whatever. Build a theme park to showcase all the incarnations, let Fairyland people try on the different types.

Even the melee round montage art disappoints in this one. The panels in earlier collections were more detailed, with subtle gags and jokes. These are just splash art, one image and some color sticks, not much else.

love this series so much. Granted this volume is a bit repetitive though. I felt like I had read this volume before in the previous stories. Still, I had so much fun reading this and the art is always fantastic. This might be the weakest volume in the series but if you loved the previous volumes then you will have no issue with this one.
