The Serenity crew is in the crosshairs in a hardcover series perfect for fans of Guardians of the Galaxy!
The crew is broke and out of luck, and will have to deal with some less-than-trustworthy associates if the Serenity is going to keep flying. What seems like an easy job in town for half the crew turns sideways with feds, uneasy locals, and a high profile politician in the mix. Not to mention, with an assassination attempt pushing the feds to extreme measures, the Serenity crew is in dire straits! Burdened by an unbelievably high bounty, Kaylee and the crew do their best to hide… but the feds are always one step ahead… Superstar Marvel and DC writer Sam Humphries ( The Saga of Peter Quill, Harley Quinn) teams up with fan-favorite artist Jordi Pérez (How I Became a Shoplifter) to bring Firefly fans a new limited series filled with assassins and organized crime!
In "Fall Guys," a great deal of time has passed since the Serenity movie. Once again the crew is stuck dead in the water with no fuel and no money on a rim planet's moon. They're so desperate they take a way-too-shady job from an antagonist gang that previously set them up. No surpirse, they were set up again, but this time it's so big that the crew is in way over their heads. Framed for an assassination attempt on the prime minester, the crew scrambles to find the real assassins so they can clear their names.
Some of the scripting was a bit rough, with every character in the scene having to get their quip in on what seemed like every panel, and some of the language being off-the wall, but overall the story was compelling and the fight scenes engaging. The hardest thing to deal with was the characterization and casting. Half the crew is gone, Mal is no longer the captain (Kaylee is), Zoe's baby is now 2-3 years old, and a new crew member has replaced Jayne (Leonard). I can generally see how the crew changes manifested, but I can't really suspend my disbelief enough to accept Kaylee being a Captain. That was stretching things a bit too far. That aside, the story itself was really great.
The only other gripe I have is that this series ends in a cliffhanger. The story is good enough that I want to know what happens next, but the last issue was published in early 2024 and it's unlikely Boom will produce a sequel.
Recommended, but only if you're okay with cliffhanger endings that will never be resolved. ;_;
Serenity is broke AF and they need some money quick. (just like 80% of the series) They end up taking a job from a rival group of bandits (how could that go wrong?) and they're set up to be the fall guys for an assassination. The target is somebody who killed Zoe's friends in the war. == This feels like just another average episode from Firefly. War flashbacks? Check. Isolated 'western' town? Check. They just shuffled out a few of the old characters and put new ones in their place. For such an expansive universe (that we've barely seen), it's all the same bits we got in the cancelled series.
First, i never liked the TV show. Unoriginal, cookie cutter characters, weak (except for the final episode) and the comics, such as this one, with some really bad art and coloring, are mostly more of the same. As dumb as this crew is, how they aren't dead or imprisoned yet is beyond understanding. This one is about 2 issues too long and is really paint by numbers storytelling. Having said that, Serenity is one of my favorite movies and the best thing to come out of firefly.
Povedený a občas dost vtipný westernově laděný příběh z univerza Firefly, nesrovnatelně lepší než poslední komiksy Grega Paka a zároveň ještě o něco zdařilejší než All-New Firefly. Humphries má pro postavy cit, dokonce i Leonard je v jeho podání snesitelnou, ba sympatickou postavou! Bavil jsem se. 8,5/10
A plot about assassination is a bit unlucky in it's timing. Can't blame the writer for that.
Creating a character who is a cross between Cobra Commander and the Joker in terms of scene chewing, over the top, evil? The writer gets All the blame for that.
A decent idea that could have been great, but stretched out an couple issues too many to really pull it off. Shame as the first issue really had me intrigued.
