Love the art style and there are some great fun panels making good use of this bloke being a deer guy. I expected better dialogue from a story about a newspaper editor, it always reads quite overdramatic but once you settle into the pulpy tone it’s still a bit of fun. I only wish there were more ‘deer being an editor’ based humour or reasoning for this to exist and I think it would have been easier to gloss over the mixed bag plot.

Docked a star because I wasn't a huge fan of the semi abrupt ending. Besides that, fire!

Supernatural twist on a noir story- a deer editor (get it) is uncovering the mayors plot to stir up beachfront property sales but uncovers an even more disturbing truth… they’re vampires!

This story felt like it was going to be good humored but came off as too serious. I love the Brubaker murder mysteries but this one seemed to have less intriguing twists or more moments of just like oh well alright…

The art is wonderful though, the panel layout and use of color really set this book apart. Even if I didn’t love the story, the book itself is nice to look at.

I checked this out on the titles pun alone. I was on board with such a silly title. I was hoping for a ridiculous hardboiled detective story. That's what it started as, but then the supernatural stuff happened and I immediately checked out. I literally had to put the book down for a second and reorient myself. I'm not sure why it annoyed me so much but I wanted this humanoid Deer character to be in a more grounded story!

Also I feel like the story has been compressed to fit into a three issue arc. There's so many quick jumps and or odd paneling that, to me, it's clear the creative team was trying to save space to tell their story. I have to respect that, but the story could have really benefited from more pages.

Excellent artwork. The noir isn't particularly compelling, but it's hurt even more by the shoehorning of vampires into the villain's role, especially without any (recognized during a first read) foreshadowing.

Picked this up from my local library only because it was new .

A Deer named Bucky that is editor for a newspaper company named The Truth . First issue , I didn’t know what to expect going into this. I wish the illustration had more of a darker noir theme to it . The build up for the story is there but it’s missing a lot of unanswered questions with a lack luster / cliffhanger ending . I didn’t hate it but I won’t continue this series . 2.5/5

doesn't get any deeper than the title pun. the guy has a deer head and he's an investigative reporter. there's fun to be had with a silly premise like that, but this rush job of a miniseries can't find a tone and stick to it. skip this one

I really didn't like this. The first issue was good but two jumped off a cliff and three was painful to read until the end which wasn't a satisfactory nor truly comprehensible ending. It felt like there should have been something more final. Some dissonance felt with the ending.

Gorgeously illustrated, cleverly plotted at the start, but takes a supernatural left turn (which felt out of place even in a story about a deer-human) and ends up just being a bit of a flat version of Blacksad.

Basically a dad joke turned into a comic and played straight. The main character has a deer head and is a reporter while everyone else is human. I was onboard until the vampires showed up. Then the plot just dissolved into a confusing mess. Sami Kavela's art is always excellent.

I thought there would be another issue but nope this is one of those books that just ends and you go "oh, that was abrupt". I was on board. There was some fun. Played it straight even when the story itself got more bizarre then it ended and oh well.

It was fun. A supernatural hard boiled detective noir. A good fun read.
