1.5, for the artistic effort. And it won't be me saying this guy can't draw, because he sure can, but, apart from that... what a mess this graphic novel is!

The idea and whole concept is ok; not particularly original or revolutionary come to this point, but ok anyway. But the execution is quite a disaster.

The art is beautiful in a way, yes, but also kind of still and empty, lacking the necessary dynamics and life that this kind of story actually requires, with some action scenes that they just feel like static shots.

And then, when it comes to the script... this is just so extremely verbose, that it gets actually boring. I guess it comes to prove that you can say the same thing in a myriad of different ways, and with a million of different words. And yes, this is full of pseudo-philosophical ideas revolving around the concept of creation... with lots of references to darkness added in the mix, like in your best 'Kingdom Hearts' videogame.

All in all, bland, boring, and not a very satisfying read. I won't be reading volume two, of that you can be sure.

Tyo! Tohle melo takovy potencial a nakonec to bylo ubito do šedé nudy. A ano, dropl jsem to u pateho sesitu z sedmi (v prvnim volumku). Proste to neslo!

Pribeh s timto napadem pracuje solidne a k memu prekvapeni je to i pomerne vážný a psychologicky pribeh, kdyz pominu sem tam nejake žertíky s tématem spojené.

This is not Something Epic. It's not even an epic fail (the artwork is too high quality to write this book off entirely). It's just a painfully cliched story that manages to take the concept of imagination and make it boring - it's sort of like the movie 'If' in that. The idea of worlds of imagination populated by the creations (both completed and incomplete) seems like fertile ground, but the storyline sticks to the classic heroes journey, complete with all the cliches (there are two prominent female characters in the story - guess what happens to BOTH of them?). The dialog is heavy-handed and overwrought. The reveals are painfully obvious even in advance. While the detail and variety of the artistic styles are nice, the palette choices seem heavy handed even to me, which is saying a lot.
I'm definitely not continuing the series. At least the volume tells a complete story, even if it's not a satisfying or particularly original one. This was a struggle to work my way through, and wasn't worth the effort.

I must say - shame on me. When we were doing preorders, I have seen the cover, seen name I have never seen before and said - ugh, this will be another boring, cliché fantasy I have seen thousand times, and decided not to give it a chance. But! Thanks to guys of Comic Airwaves show, who were talking about it very positively, I gave it a try. And damn, fucking, damn. What a treat!
Definitely not for people who hate a lot of narration in comic books. And I mean, A LOT. But even to those I recommend to at least try first issue, because this comics is very beautiful piece, it is imaginative and heartful. The art is really nice, differing based on what characters main character sees. Loved every bit of it and I am looking forward to read the next book.

Boiling this comic down to the basics...
'What if creativity was a force that could be manipulated?'

Creativity is a tangible force with imaginary things being...mostly real (It's wayyyy harder to explain than this). The story follows a boy who can see these imaginary things where nobody else can. Turns out, that he's ...'Epic' and can interact with this imagination energy more than others can.

Think of it as Robin William's 'Hook' where the Lost Boys imagined that meal out of nothing. This boy can see the characters in stories talking to him and comic book characters take a life of their own.

Bonus: Not for those weary of reading TONS of exposition. This 'B' is wordy 'AF'

A poignant look at imagination, growing up, and what happens when you repress the best and worst parts of yourself. A little wordy at times, but it definitely makes you think, and the thoughts themselves are well thought out, if a tad meandering.

The main draw here for me was Kudranski's artwork, which is always impressive as hell, but the story definitely kept me engaged, and I'm curious to see where we go next since it felt like almost everything was addressed by the end of these seven issues.
