The Astrology Advantage: Use Your Horoscope for Personal and Professional Success

Rate this book
Maximize your professional and personal potential with this simple system that distills the wisdom of the zodiac into three distinct types and provides actionable advice, from renowned astrologers to the stars Ophira and Tali Edut, a.k.a. The AstroTwins.

Did you know that astrology has an actionable daily practice, a secret code for unlocking unprecedented professional and personal success?

Many people are familiar with their zodiac sign, but few people understand how to interpret it—and even fewer have any clue how to take action on it. The Astrology Advantage fills that gap—presenting the personal source code for every human; it serves as a spiritual science, a personality test on steroids, and a helpful inner guidance system. Your birth chart can tell you uncannily accurate things about yourself that can’t just be dismissed as confirmation bias. But with over a dozen components, understanding your entire horoscope can feel overwhelming and time-consuming. To help you utilize its power without needing to understand its intricacies, The AstroTwins created the I*AM Method, a simple archetype system that helps you use astrology to optimize the way you work, relate to others, and find your zone of thriving. The method averages the thirteen major points in your birth chart to one of the three archetypes:
-I (Innovator): trailblazers, pioneers, visionaries
-A (Authority): experts, award winners, achievers
-M (Maven): creator, trend spreader, artist

Understanding your archetype empowers you with a significant advantage in every aspect of your life. Just as astrology influences all domains of your life, the applications here are endless, but they are also practical, serving a day-to-day purpose. With sections on learning how to have great relationships (from dating to family to colleagues), how optimize time, make confident decisions, set up a productive workspace, communicate with your coworkers, and dozens more, the I*AM method will help you use astrology to figure out how to efficiently invest your energy amid competing demands of work, family, and relationships.

The Astrology Advantage is Atomic Habits meets The Wisdom of the Enneagram, based in the science and system of astrology. This transformational book revitalizes how astrology is used, providing individualized tools and strategies, helping you make better decisions and optimize your strengths. In short, The Astrology Advantage teaches you how to use astrology to give you a significant edge in business and in life.

Anything by the Astrotwins is excellent, researched material. This book is easy to read and full of eye-opening reality. Think of it as a spiritually supportive tool. This system was spot on for three people that I charted. (I will surely do more.) It is fun to share results and realize, yes, that person is exactly that way.

I really like frameworks like this, but this is just a bit too oversimplified and generic feeling, especially since I’ve seen the value of really diving in and understanding all of the different aspects of someone’s chart. Fast and easy read though.

I really like the Astrotwins but unfortunately this book was a bit of a disappointment. They've developed a system called I*AM to more easily understand and apply astrology to the various aspects of one's life. By taking the signs in an individual's birth chart, the system creates a profile of characteristics; everyone is either an Innovator, Authority, or Maven (or occasionally a combination of two), hence the catchy acronym I*AM.

OK, I'm game. After plunking my pertinent information into the birth chart generator on the Astrotwins' website, it would seem that I'm a Maven. Which, given the description provided...was not really me. If there were a few things off, sure, fine, I could get on board -- but overall, it didn't feel too applicable, so I decided to DNF.

I received a copy of this book for free in a Goodreads giveaway.

I am not really into astrology, but I casually read those articles that are like "the best [something] for each sign" and find them amusing, even while knowing they're kind of silly. So I guess you'd call me a skeptic, which the authors mention in the introduction as part of the target audience. I've always felt strange reading my own horoscopes as a Leo, because it feels like I'm just not the typical Leo that they describe in astrology. So when I used their online calculator to get my I*AM type, and it told me I'm an Innovator (I don't know what time I was born, but it seemed that changing the hour of the day basically just made my Innovator score fluctuate between 7 and 8), I again felt skeptical. "Trailblazing, visionary and ahead of your time" is not a phrase anyone has ever used to describe me.

Just from reading the descriptions, it felt like I'm very much an Authority. I'm all about stability and I focus more on the past than the present or future. On the other hand, my house is a giant Maven mess, but we all have characteristics of all three types, I suppose. Throughout the book, I just kept thinking that Authority sounds a lot more like me than Innovator, despite my having 7 to 8 in Innovator. So it was difficult for me to read the book without constantly feeling like I was reading the description for the wrong type in Innovator, before reading the Authority description right after it and feeling like it fit me a lot better.

I'm obviously no astrology expert, but this actually did break things down in a way that was pretty easy to understand, with the authors describing the thirteen points that make up your I*AM score and also going into the four elements that are more familiar but aren't really used in I*AM. The authors go into some detail about your astrology chart and how that relates to your I*AM type but without getting bogged down in too many minutiae, and I think they've struck a good balance in this part. I don't know if splitting the entire population into only three types is really sufficient, and the descriptions of each type are broad enough to probably catch enough people to justify the system, but I wasn't that convinced that three types is really enough.

The book does get a bit repetitive, though, as it goes through how each of the three types deals with a lot of aspects of life, including work, communication, relationships, parenting, and others. It kind of rehashes similar ideas for the three types in each of these areas, though on the plus side the authors include easily digestible bullet points with tips for each type or how to deal with people of each type in relation to these specific areas. The text flows pretty well and is easy to read, with interesting anecdotal examples, but I do think that midway through the book, I felt like I was reading much of the same thing.

I don't know if this book has converted me from an astrology skeptic, but it was an interesting, easy-to-read introduction to this system. I had a hard time getting over the feeling that I wasn't classified correctly from the beginning, and I could have used less repetition in the book, though. It felt like instead of just basing your type purely on your birth time and place, there should just be some questionnaire near the beginning that asked you how much you identified with a bunch of keywords to determine which of the three types you are, but then I suppose that would defeat the purpose of this being an astrology book.

Caveat that I am a former professional consulting astrologer, so my rating is based off how it was written and the depth of the content. The Astrotwins, or Ophira & Tali Edut, are astrologers who came out swinging in the game. They mentored some of *my* favourite astrologers and friends, including Queer Cosmos astrologer Colin Bedell. They are pioneers in the industry, especially as women.
This book is for people interested in simplifying astrology and its applications to how you show up in the world. If you have intermediate or advanced astrological knowledge and are interested in more technical work, this is not the correct book for you. This is definitely in the vein of Chani's You Were Born For This, or Steven Forrest's The Inner Sky, but this is geared towards entrepreneurs and laypeople who are interested in utilizing modality (fixed, cardinal, mutable) in conjunction with their birth charts to live their life. Their signature I*AM framework is unique, but if you're aware of technique in astrology, they are essentially breaking archetypes up into modalities. I think their insight and approach is fresh, if repackaged, but for novices, this is a good place to start. I like the suggestions and actionable steps and realistic advice for making sure you succeed (hint: it's with the help of others! Interdependence on the other modalities!)

Would I recommend this for pros? No. Is it good for beginning clients and people interested in a pop-culture sense? Yes.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC :)

The Astrology Advantage by identical twins Ophira and Tali Edut (the Astro Twins) is a delightful, illuminating, and actionable guide to using astrology as a tool for personal and professional success. The authors developed the I*AM Method, which uses your birth chart to define your archetype in the workplace and relationships: the innovator, the authority, and the maven.

I read our horoscopes to my kids daily while dropping them off at school. There's always something we can find that relates and helps guide the day. The Astrology Advantage is the authors’ twenty-first book. It’s an accessible guide to using astrology in everyday aspects of your life, with great tips on how to be a leader at work or how to parent. They’ve taken a new spin on the birth chart, which is complex, and distilled it into an easy-to-follow shortcut they call the chart dominance. The Astrology Advantage is perfect for those who prefer a hands-on approach, offering an astrology roadmap and an engaging read.

Full disclosure: I work for The AstroTwins, but I had nothing to do with this book (it is published by Simon Element/Simon & Schuster). My review is my own.

The Astrology Advantage is a straightforward, plain English explanation of how your personal astrology shapes your personality. By learning your I*AM archetype, you can better understand how you show up in the world and interact with others.

The AstroTwins are skilled at making astrology understandable, not academic. You can see yourself while reading this book and apply the concepts right away. It's a fun, pleasurable read, and you'll come away with a new appreciation for yourself and others.

If you need an enticement, try their online calculator to determine your type: https://astrostyle.com/astrology-adva...

Other personality/archetype systems exist (many are used in workplaces worldwide), and the I*AM system is a great addition, not just for astrology lovers.

This is a great book for those looking to get into astrology! I didn't know that the authors of this book are responsible for writing the horscopes for Elle, and this is such a cool fact. This blends astrology with some other concepts like enneagram and even human design, which I think are cool combinations. The book focuses a lot on professional success, but this guiding advice could also be applicable to personal success as well. I really enjoyed this book and think anyone looking to get into astrology or is already a fan should read this book.

Thank you to NetGalley, Ophira and Tali Edut, and Simon Element for the eARC of this book!

Kind of a weird book tbh. The AstroTwins break down astrology into the equivalent of a personality test that can be used in a business setting as a "team building exercise," kind of like the colors test or Clifton Strengths (both which I thought were a giant waste of time, so maybe I'm not the right audience for this to begin with😂). I guess my question is, why not just use regular astrology? It was fairly accurate though.

this is genuinely the worst astrological book ive ever read. feels like it was written by a group of hipster millennials in 2015 who decided to market their website in every goddamn page of the book. 80% website promo, 20% badly written astrology full of cringey buzzwords and trying to insert pop culture into every sentence and archetype. god i regret wasting my time on this

They had no business writing a book so accurate😂 but I’m a IM combo and it helped have a better understanding of myself and gave me reminders to keep me grounded. Another interesting way to read yourself and those around you!

It’s interesting how they are able to distill down your whole chart into a type. My type “ maven” is in alignment with other personality tests results so I guess it makes sense. I do like the strobes approach to astrology and their weekly readings.

The system the twins have created is extremely oversimplified, but just as effective as say the MBTI or enneagram systems. In basic relations with other people, such as colleagues at work, this is great advice. Even just knowing someone’s sun sign’s quality can make this book a useful resource, but keep in mind astrology is much more in depth than this and this book will not be 100% accurate because of the simplified system.
