Og learns the value of teamwork in this adorable, rhyming Pre-Level 1 Ready-to-Read by award-winning and New York Times bestselling author Ame Dyckman and renowned illustrator Elio!
Og and his new kitty cat friend Mog are building a fun project! But they are missing an important piece of equipment to finish it. And Dog feels left out and wants to help. Can furry monster Og, Mog, and Dog work together to save the day?
OG Finds the Cog is an adorable, fun read — one my kiddo and I both enjoyed. The rhyming is clever and helps children connect words with similar sounds, which is great for building phonemic awareness. The story is cute, short, and to the point — not overly long or complicated, which works well for young readers.
The illustrations are a big win: cute, colorful, engaging, and just the right amount of whimsy. They bring the Monster OG world to life in a way that makes you want more of his adventures. I’d love to see more Monster OG books!
What I found a little frustrating (and this might just be me): the rhymes can be a bit of a tongue twister. Even as an adult reading it aloud, I stumbled over some lines on the first go. It’s fun, but it makes the reading experience a little more challenging.
Overall, this is a great choice if you want something playful and rhythmic for early readers — just be ready for some tricky pronunciations.
We are so proud of you for reading "Og Finds the Cog"! What a wonderful story! You learned that sharing and working together with friends makes everything better and more fun. When Og and his friends shared the cog, they all had a great time! Remember, sweetheart, when you share your toys and ideas with your friends at school or home, everyone feels happy. You're becoming such a thoughtful reader. Keep up the amazing work, our little bookworm! We love you so much!

A fun Ready to Read Pre-Level One book with an emphasis on the phonics sound for og. Fun story and bright illustrations that will keep new readers engaged
Og, a monster, and Mog, a giant cat, build a robot together. Dog, being jealous, runs away with a cog from the robot. Can Og and Mog recover their cog and make up with Dog before it's too late? There is something so innately delightful about reading a book chock full of rhyming words. Elio's bright, colorful, fun illustrations nicely complement the large, easy to read text. Perfect for children just learning to read, this would be a fun book for an adult and child to read together. Children are likely to enjoy the way the rhymes feel on their tongue. Og, Mog, and Dog all make for relatable characters as well. Recommended.
