MASHLE: Magic and Muscles is a manga series that will leave you spellbound! Published in Shonen Jump, this series follows the story of Mash Burnedead, a magicless protagonist in a world full of magic. The manga is a comedy with a vibe akin to a mashup of One Punch Man and Harry Potter. The story is set in a world where magic is everything, and those who don’t possess it are considered weak. Mash, however, is an exception to this rule. He has no magical abilities but makes up for it with his incredible physical strength. The series has been praised for its engaging storyline, well-developed characters, and stunning artwork. It has also been adapted into an anime series, which has been well-received by fans.

As the first volume that Mash is completely present for in a while, we fall back into the rhythm that has become te series norm. Mash faces a foe with his normal laid-back and aloof personality, defies physics with play-by-play commentary from the other characters, and beats them up with the power of his chisled muscles, creampuffs, and friendship. And now that he is back stronger than before, he can avenge his friends against Doom, and hopefully beat Innocent Zero once and for all. As much as I loved the last few volumes for how things were switched up, I am enjoying falling back on the specialized humor that we get from Mash. The commentary we get from the characters as they explain his moves is one of my favorite aspects of this entire series, and I did sorely miss that in particular.
This volume started out with Mash finishing up his fight against Doom, who we finally got to see at his full power. Obviously, this was a rematch for Mash, and we really got to see how his training with Meliadoul strengthened him. He seems not only more powerful, but he also has a better understanding of his actual body and knows how to utilise it in order to get the most power. That just makes me wonder how strong Meliadoul is, because her wiki says she has similar strength and speed to Mash and Doom and now I REALLY want to see her fight. Screw Mash, let it be Meliadoul vs Innocent Zero. I mean, she managed to throw Ochoa a million feet through a tiny opening to hit Innocent Zero in the face, so that's certainly something.
The fight against Doom was amazing, and even though Innocent Doom is supposed to be the crux of the whole series, I enjoyed Doom's fight more in this volume. I think his power is fascinating because it really is unlike anyone elses. Everyone else who is "strong" can do these big fancy spells, but a lot of Doom's strength as a fighter is more about his exceptional speed and physical strength, which is what makes him such a great antagonist for Mash to go against. Visually, his unique design paired with his mirror magic is beautiful, and I really liked how the frames were always filled with beautiful art. Whether that would be big panels of closeups of Doom with his long hair, all of Doom's clones, or the mirror shards, it was a very well designed section of the book.
A few moments from this section that I thought were especially fun was Mash's use of gynmastics (Stephen Nedoroscik core), punchine each Doom clone through the ENTIRE giant rock, and the way he weighed the entire ground to find which Doom was real.
I did also think Innocent Zero's transformation was really cool, and it reminds me of someone, although I can't put my finger on what it is he reminds me of. But the story has now gotten to a very interesting point, and I like that Komoto decided to knock Mash back down a second time. It's so soon that he came back from his training and now he's out of it again, but I appreciate that the final fight isn't going to be as simple as the other ones. I did love how the time magic made certain parts of Mash's body age, which brought out some funny and creative strategies for Mash. I did also REALLY love entrance, I really liked him as a character and am glad that he has come back as an ally. Dare I say his entrance may have been even better than Mash's in the last volume?!
Now that we're really getting to the end I'm super excited to see how things go. Pretty much everyone is extremely injured, and
"Um... No one asked you to force your expectations on me. Save your disappointment for your lover, not me. You're making this weird."
"How are his eyelids so strong?!"
"Not really. I don't want to keep fighting stronger people. I don't find it exciting at all. I still... just want to go home."
"My muscles... don't know the meaning of unpossible."
"A perfect 10!!"
"He's roasting him alive!!"
The fight against Doom carries on for a few chapters longer, but Mash is back so he can crack jokes and stuff, adding some much-needed levity back to the series. The final battle then begins afterward, including some new surprises.
Mash goes toe to toe with Innocent Zero...and for all the awesome battle moments, I felt this volume had some of the best laugh out loud roasts and jokes! The action keeps rolling and you truly can tell that this is nearing the end of the series. (I believe volume 18 is the finale) The action is high; the emotions are there, and they are nothing short of exciting and engaging. Hajime Komoto delivers, and I find myself wondering what the series would have looked like if it was shorter. The story is fun and this chapter flies by with heart pounding art and breakneck action scenes! Not to be missed.
Sooooooo, I don’t actually know where I am in terms of the volumes, but I’m on chapter 144. Therefore, I’m gonna treat this volume as battle with eldest brother and the start of the battle with father.
The older brother kinda gave off vibes of “please be stronger than me so that you can defeat our father, mash.” Also, how dare the father start a fight so soon after the previous fight! Give them like five minutes to rest up!

As the eclipse looms, Mash must face Doom alone, and it will be the battle that finally decides who is the strongest brother - but whoever comes out on top will face the horrifying power of Innocent Zero as his final transformation awaits! Komoto delivers an exciting blend of corny humour and action in this enjoyably quirky yet explosive entry. Where has Mash's training brought him...and will it be what puts Doom down for good?
While it's good to see Mash back (!) I wish his adversaries were diverse enough for me to remember who the heck was Domina... (Other than one guy of whom I hoped he's actually a girl in a story of boys, boys, boys and boys. And like two token girls-)
Eyelids! Elbows! Hearts! Final words! Cream puffs!
My favorite moment was the answer when Doom (I had to check his name on the backcover, oh well) asked Mash who does he want to become in the future ^^
4.25/5 Having Mash back does a world of good in this volume. We also get some of the humor that has been missing due to the intensity of the action and fighting. We're definitely hitting the climax of this series and it is so much fun. The way the action scenes are drawn is engaging and quick paced. This series continues to be a delight.
LMAO probably because Mash gives comedic relief as I read each chapter (I prefer chapter 143 & Mash roasting his evil dad) that he is able to conquer his oldest brother however his heart has been taken by Innocent Zero. Out of nowhere, Domina appears to return a favour from his younger brother and I rate this five out of five stars.
Un no parar de power up tras power up contra Doom, aunque la verdad, me ha encantado la batalla. Igual un poco too much alargada, pero genial. La comedia como siempre, 10 de 10. Y comienza al fin el combate final.
Mash is finally back! After completing his training, we finally get to see the showdown we have all been waiting for! Will Innocent Zero end up winning? Only time will tell.
Not my favorite volume, but still good as always and I am kind of sad that this story is close to the end. Excited to see how it ends, but sad that we won’t be getting anymore new volumes.
Equal parts silliness and high stakes end-game action. It's a real rebound for this story and I'm glad for it. There were times I was not as invested in this title, but it really did a great job coming back together for the end-run of the series and I'm glad to see where it lands.
A good start to the final better. Things are much better when Mashle is the focus and the obscure deus ex machina he uses to win his fights. Much more enjoyable and a great start to the end of the series.
“Save your disappointment for your lover” ouch / nice hairdo my boy / what! The eye! What! / “weakness mode” that’s it / even gymnastics! Wow! / his hands 🥲🥲🥲 / dominaaaaaaaaaa yei

"Nadie te pidió forzaras tus expectativas sobre mi" Mash tiene momentos geniales de lucidez 😂. El final se ve bastante predecible pero aún es divertido
