omg this is the first volume i’ve really liked so far!! and it ended on a cliffhanger😭

This has definitely been my favorite volume thus far!
This is also the volume that turned me into a Keito fan! 😆 He's easily my favorite even though I really do like Tamon a lot! It's been fun seeing him grow and change and definitely love seeing his real feelings come out more when it comes to Utage.
However, it's through all that where I really saw how caring Keito is despite that he may seem mean and cold-hearted. LOL! I love how Utage "called him out" about it at one point because once we got to know him, I really thought he had a big heart.
I really loved the beginning with Tamon being himself and Utage really struggling! LOL! I know that sounds bad, but she is trying so hard to help Tamon get it that he can't be doing what he's doing and he's just not getting it. LOL!
I will add to that though, I'm really loving how Utage seems to be falling for Tamon's genuine side and not just Hottiehara. I think I was worried about how that would unfold when it came to romance, but it's been really beautiful!
Definitely looking forward to seeing what happens next!

Tamon and the rest of the dopes in F/ACE continue to work hard for their success. They all seem to be getting mixed up with Utage quite a bit, mind you, and when she’s dragged off on their summer vacation that only promises that things will only get worse.
The absurdist comedy is a tricky beast to tame and it’s no secret that I have found this particular manga’s execution wobbly at best. Possibly because, as much as it pains itself to portray what it claims are extremes, there’s no denial that this is probably fewer degrees away from crazy fans than we’d like to think.
Still, parts of it are very effective. Utage and Tamon running around to Tamon hotspots is very enjoyable. There is something I do find inherently funny about the way he literally makes Utage’s head explode and they just blur it out until she recovers.
Another thing I did not expect to enjoy was the revelation that F/ACE’s new centre, Keito, isn’t trying to hide how much of a dink he is. No, he is nakedly open about how his only desire is to milk his fans so he can get rich and live the high life.
This ends up manifesting as him being the most penny-pinching miser this side of Duckberg and there’s a lot you can do with that and I truly hope they lean into that more because it’s a comedy goldmine.
The lamer jokes about Tamon’s scriptures that Utage recites and such wild things are all the same as previous, although it’s quite welcome that they minimize the suicide gags this time around.
It’s about what I expect from Yuki Shiwasu, who has always had the subtlety of a blunderbuss when it comes to gags and expressions. Sometimes it works and, admittedly, there really isn’t another way to make this scenario work except aiming for the rafters.
Though I would argue that making this more about the incredibly dysfunctional members of F/ACE offers a lot more to play with than just watching Utage and Tamon fumble around with their potential romance that might be realized in another ten volumes or so.
The last chunk involves a summer vacation documentary which might honestly be one of the only times in recent memory the swimsuit cheesecake is limited entirely to the guys, so points for that. The way they shoehorn Utage in here is ridiculous, but the story knows it’s ridiculous at least.
It’s more of the same faffing about and near misses, now with the addition of Ori’s tsundere routine to the mix as he clearly has fallen in love with Utage and hates himself for it. The tortured love affair he appears to be carrying in his own mind is pretty funny and he recognizes Utage’s feelings even when she herself doesn’t (beyond her obsession).
Parts of this are genuinely amusing. Tamon wrapping himself up like he’s going to an off-Broadway production of The Castle of Cagliostro just to get a bath is great. It’s just a lot, constantly, without let-up, that’s only sometimes worth it.
If you have liked it thus far, it’s the same sort of thing, but with a couple of extra bright spots. There’s definitely enough to make it worth sticking with as it moves forward, at least for now.
3.5 stars - no rounding up, but I do want to acknowledge that there are some solid jokes and there’s a rather amusing turn for a couple of characters who initially appeared insufferable, which is no mean feat.

PLEASE STOP WITH THE CLIFF HANGERS I'M BEGGING YOUUUUUUUUU!!!! I need volume 4 now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm loving getting to see the "B" side of all of the members of F/ACE.
This is absolutely hilarious and I enjoyed every single minute of it.
I wonder if they'll ever talk about/deal with toxic fans, or if it will just stay fluffy the whole way through (I'm good with it either way) They briefly mentioned "problematic" fans, so we'll see.
I like that Kinoshita tries to make Tamon understand how much he means to his fans, but I don't like the whole "Tamon belongs to everyone" bit. I mean, if you're talking about how people shouldn't be toxic and try to gaslight other people into not liking Tamon, then yes. Tamon belongs to everyone. But saying that as if you're trying to talk him out of showing favor to one person is annoying. And is also a bigger problem idols face in general. But that's a whole other rant and I won't post it all here.
I cannot wait to see even more character development for everyone, and I want the romance to start amping up. So fingers crossed. And do I smell a love triangle??!

Shenanigans continues. Ya know, I respect how Utage keeps her fangirling in the background. It’s her personality but not debilitating.
RECAP: Keito is all about money. Tamon hangs out with her in public. She’s then brought to the filming shoot as a part timer. Ori wants her as a fan, hides her from Keito. She gets locked into a closet and Tamon finds her and gets locked too. Filming successful. He takes pics of a hermit crab for her haha and then ending: ori thinks they’re kissing.

I'm actually obsessed with this like it's so cute and fun and well written (and translated!) and it's not at all what I thought this series was going to be, I'm so happy I gave it a chance!!!

At this point, I am increasingly convinced that half the literary value of this manga comes from watching Utage spontaneously combust whenever Tamon does something remotely attractive.
And yes, I consider that literary value.
But one of the things I genuinely loved about this volume is how much it continued to complicate the whole "which Tamon is the real Tamon?" question for me.
After volume 3, I stopped seeing gloomy, insecure Tamon as necessarily being the "real" person underneath a fake idol persona. Volume 4 only made me like that interpretation more. I think gloomy Tamon and Hottiehara can both be Tamon.
This man can genuinely believe he's pathetic and unwanted while simultaneously knowing, from plenty of external evidence, that he's attractive, charming, and capable of making people lose their minds. Especially Utage.
And this volume makes that contradiction SO funny because Tamon has clearly figured out exactly how susceptible Utage is to Hottiehara and has started using this information against her.
He'll deliberately turn on the charm, Utage will literally collapse, and then HE has to pick her up and carry her around afterward.
Cause problem. Deal with consequences. Repeat.
Perfect system.
But that's also why Hottiehara doesn't feel completely fake to me. Tamon can consciously bring out that confidence, know the effect it has on other people, even use it strategically, and still return five minutes later to assuming he's an unbearable nuisance.
Somehow, I believe both versions of him.
What felt newer and more interesting to me in this volume was seeing another side of Tamon's sensitivity. He explains that he's always been extremely aware of other people's emotions, which makes complete sense to me considering how socially anxious and insecure he is. That kind of constant attention to people's reactions can obviously feed his gloomy spirals, but here we also get to see how sweet that same trait can be when it turns into genuine attentiveness and care.
And that brings me to the main reason I spent this volume giggling like an idiot: Tamon and Utage are becoming SO CUTE.
There's a subtle shift in their dynamic here that I really loved. Utage has always been the one looking.
She watches Tamon. She studies Tamon. She worries about Tamon. She knows an absolutely deranged amount of information about him and continues approaching their relationship from the perspective of I'm just one fan, I shouldn't take up too much of his time.
But this volume increasingly made me feel like Tamon is looking back.
And I don't think Tamon being naturally sensitive to people's emotions makes that less meaningful. Maybe noticing that she's tired isn't inherently romantic. He notices people. That's part of who he is.
What gets me is what he does with what he notices.
The same emotional radar that can make gloomy Tamon go her expression changed slightly, she hates me, I have ruined everything and should disappear forever can apparently also make him go she's exhausted and hasn't realized it yet, I should take care of her.
That's such a cute extension of a character trait that usually causes him pain.
And I think that's what made the romance work so well for me in this volume. I obviously LOVE the ridiculous fanservice. Please continue putting Hottiehara approximately three millimeters away from Utage's face and making her brain explode. I am not above this. I know who I am.
But the moments that actually got me were the quieter ones where their relationship started feeling increasingly reciprocal.
Utage spends so much time insisting that she's Just One Fan™ while Tamon is increasingly noticing her, worrying about her, learning how she works and apparently enjoying being close to her.
I love him.
Meanwhile, I was also paying MUCH more attention to Ori this time.
I still don't really think Ori is a bad person. He's definitely rude, and on the surface he can come across as way more unpleasant than Tamon, but then you get his internal thoughts and they're often weirdly cute compared to the things that actually come out of his mouth.
And now there's whatever the hell is happening with him and Utage.
I'm not completely convinced that it's straightforward romantic interest yet. My current theory is that at least some of his initial fixation on her might be an ego thing.
Utage is completely, hopelessly obsessed with another guy. Not only another guy, but Tamon. And meanwhile Ori, who is presumably very accustomed to being noticed, gets approximately ZERO of that energy from her.
I can absolutely see that getting under his skin.
But at the same time... I don't think it's only ego anymore.
It feels like the fact that Utage doesn't respond to him the way he expects may have made him notice her in the first place, but now the noticing itself is starting to generate actual emotions. He's increasingly aware of her, increasingly involved in situations with her, and occasionally doing things that make me look directly into the imaginary camera.
So I still don't know exactly what I think Ori feels, and I actually like that. I don't want to jump immediately from "he's paying attention to Utage" to "he's definitely in love with her." Right now I'm much more interested in the possibility that ego, curiosity, jealousy and genuine feelings are starting to blur together for him.
Which makes the ending SO MUCH WORSE.
Overall, I think what I enjoyed most about volume 4 was how much more interesting all these relationships are becoming without losing the absolute stupidity that makes this series so fun.
Tamon's contradictions increasingly feel less like a gimmick and more like the actual thing I love about his characterization. Utage is still trying desperately to fit everything into the safe little box of idol and fan while the relationship happening in front of her is becoming increasingly difficult to describe that way. Ori appears to be experiencing Emotions Against His Will™ and I am watching respectfully with binoculars.
And Tamon continues alternating between being one of the most catastrophically insecure men alive and knowingly weaponizing his own attractiveness against Utage.
Four stars.

Thank goodness we’re back on track with this volume. Phew!
With Tamon ousted as F/ACE’s center, the guys are going on a bonding trip which will also become a short film—and their manager convinces Utage to come along and help as a paid part-timer. Otaku heaven!
The trip is full of wacky moments, but in between those the personalities of the members are being revealed and everyone really does seem to move in closer together.

With the F/ACE variety show over, it's time to move on to the next group project!
Utage Kinoshita, a part-time housekeeper and a full-time fangirl of F/ACE's Tamon Fukuhara, gets invited by their manager to join in a F/ACE summer getaway shooting as a staff. Unfortunately, with Utage's budding friendship with Tamon and Ori, F/ACE's leader Keito seems to disapprove of her existence and advised her to leaving them both alone!

What a volume.
Tamon's B-side (Volume 4) is so packed with action, charm and wit! In this volume, we were able to meet the remaining F/ACE members through these small interactions between the members. We also got a glimpse of Keito being F/ACE's leader and the current center during their group projects, and despite his split personality behind-the-scenes, we saw how much he cares for the other members in his own way. We even got his motivation on why he was so determined to make F/ACE an international hit, and honestly, it's a heartwarming reason.
Ori in this volume was a little unpredictable and more serious in this volume. He was straightforward with Utage during that one scene of them together.
Compared to the previous volumes, I liked how the arc unfolded in this one. Tamon's B-side (Volume 4) also ended in a cliffhanger that would leave the readers wanting more. I am looking forward to Ori's reaction to seeing Utage and Tamon's interaction by the beach in the next volume!

It's more of the same, but this volume is the funniest it's been since the first book. I love how Tamon can't really win. 😅 The Church of Tamon commands that his love and attention is for all of his fans and is too much for one person, but he wants to give it to one person... Utage's presence on the summer trip/documentary makes this even more like Skip Beat than usual. I sincerely planned on stopping the comparisons, but it's a straight up "Love Me" style task, so I can't help it. 😆

And my hopes for drama are dashed because Utage's uber-fan side came out to reprimand Tamon for... giving her too much Tamon™. So instead they have a day of him coming on too strong and her exploding until he finally puts 2 and 2 together that she just wants him to be the best Tamon™ he can be for everyone, not just her.
So instead we'll dig up drama with the other members of F/ACE as Keito gets wind of a fan spending too much time with her idol. Plus there's the whole Ori situation that still going on, so if we're not careful, Utage might accidentally end F/ACE through no fault of her own.

like always, this volume is so cute and so funny!! tamon’s gashapon hobby is so cute, and it makes his gift even bigger (a rare mystery item is something u only give away to ur soulmate imo). i liked meeting keito, and i’m excited to meet the other two members of f/ace! i do think he opened up a bit quickly, but that could definitely just be because i’m binging this series. the actual chapters come out every two weeks i’m pretty sure! utage is slowly but surely becoming one of my favorite fls ever with all her fangirl antics. ori continues to annoy me, but i love him. the mangaka’s notes at the end are so silly and overall i just love this series……..

Ouri and Utage's dynamic was kind of fun to read in this volume, with Ouri's one-sided crush developing. Tamon's interactions with Utage were extreme in the first chapter, but during the F/ACE beach special, I did like how caring he was towards Utage.
The introduction of Keito's B-Side was interesting, though he barely tried hiding his money-hungry side in front of an allegedly "rabid fan". I wish we saw Keito's allegedly aggressive fans, and in general I wish we saw more from the fandom side because I feel like that would give more insight into the band members themselves and fandom culture in general.
But, I assume and hope that's what the rest of the manga is for.

I liked this one better than the last one…which is how I felt when I read the second one as well. Nothing in this volume set off red flags for me the way half the last volume did. I think that stuff is still there, underlying things. It hasn’t gone away and isn’t being challenged. It just mostly didn’t come up in this volume. We meet the rest of the group in this volume, though I still don’t have any real sense of the final two members, and honestly sometimes can’t tell them apart in the drawings. But I am interested again in what happens next, which is good since I bought several more volumes.

This manga is so fun to read, I love how Utage is getting closer to Tamon even if she doesn’t think so. Tamon is always thinking about her and wanted to take pictures of the sea for her! It was so cute!
Also Keito is so different from what he shows to the fans, but he’s not really shallow, he just wants the best for the band. Also, Ori is showing some feelings for Utage?? And the cliffhanger was great, they weren’t kissing but that’s how it looked to him. I want to continue reading this manga and seeing if Utage starts seeing Tamon as something more than an idol.

I'm loving this series but I'm not too excited about its direction? I wish the other members (or maybe just Ori in particular) weren't so invested in the housekeeper. I love how she keeps her adoration for Tamon consistent and loyal, as it would be super annoying to do the expected drama-route of having her flip flop between the others. I also wish Tamon could be a little bit lest reliant on the housekeeper? He needs to learn independence too and I just wish he would find support systems in his other team members.

I love how this poor girl is just getting more and more pulled into these weirdos' lives. It's very fun to see Ori being openly competitive about his interest in Utage's interest, and it's nice to see that contrasted with his secretly growing genuine interest in her (and how angry it's making him). I have beef with Keito but I'm looking forward to seeing how his relationship with Utage changes, and hoping his support of the band (and his actual family) gets more screentime.

The storyline is starting to become more consistent in this one, and introducing the next F/ACE member was fun, and Kento was interesting as a character. I do want to Unpack more of his "hating intense fans" thing when it seems to oppose his idea of making as much money as possible but I digress.
The TV show shooting was really interesting, and seeing more of Darkhara was great, too!

his yandere came out in the last one so i was super worried but this volume was sm better haha. i love love keito's character he's adorable. i'm super excited for natsuki and rin's backstory. i have a feeling rin's gonna be a total cinnamonroll golden retriever !!

Some feelings are being explored with Ori and our Fan Girl and not with each other. Is this reverse harem? It seems like it could be but I am not sure. Either way I think this is fun even gloomyhara seems to be having some growth.

The last book I was concerned the storyline would become stale with the same interactions between tamon and utage. However this volume starts unfolding more of the love triangle that forms with utage Tamon and Ori. And now we start getting more dynamics in the band.

On découvre davantage le groupe d’idoles, mais leurs relations me mettent un peu mal à l’aise. Les échanges sont souvent rabaissants et négatifs, même si l’histoire tente de justifier ça par une forme d’amour maladroit. Mitigée sur cette dynamique.
