Stone Ocean Deluxe #4

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Part 6--Stone Ocean, Vol. 4

A multigenerational tale of the heroic Joestar family and their never-ending battle against evil!

The legendary Shonen Jump series is now available in deluxe hardcover editions featuring color pages! JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is a groundbreaking manga famous for its outlandish characters, wild humor and frenetic battles.

The true reason Ermes is in prison is revealed—to seek revenge for her sister’s murder by killing Sports Maximum! Jolyne rushes to stop her before she makes the biggest mistake of her life. But unbeknownst to either of them, Sports Maximum is host to the Stand Limp Viscuit. After a vicious battle, Jolyne is sent to the maximum security disciplinary wing. But like a true Joestar, she does not intend to let her fight to save her father’s life end there. She works to continue to hone her strength—that is, until, Father Pucchi sets loose a number of Stand users in search of the mysterious bone that Jolyne once held in her possession. All hell breaks loose as prisoners and guards start murdering each other, and Jolyne takes this opportunity to escape. Meanwhile, F.F. enlists the help of an unlikely, dangerous ally to help save the murderous Anastasia, who is hell-bent on…marrying Jolyne?

5 stars for the stand survivor alone. the arc has some of the most amazing, gnarliest fight sequences in comics ever. a bare-knuckle bar brawl, martial arts fight, and superhero battle all wrapped into one. and a prisoner, a falsely accused young woman, takes down a male prison guard through brute force and all-consuming rage. and in the middle of it all we get a monologue that reminds you you are warm and alive, like the sun appearing beneath a sea of clouds:

‘one prisoner saw the wall, the other saw the stars through the bars.’
which am i?
of course i look at the stars. and i want to keep their light in my eyes until i see my father again.

i damn near cried on the train. jolyne’s perseverance and determination is the purest form of selfless love i’ve seen in a minute. it doesn’t even matter if jotaro is worthy of that love, because jolyne is.

Still not a big fan of part 6 so far tbh. Like, it’s not bad, but… I’m just not particularly interested in the plot so far. Plus, sometimes the action scenes can be a bit hard to understand since there’s so much going on in a scene. I’ll keep sticking it out, but honestly I’m not expecting anything from the rest of this part to blow me away or anything.

¿El sufrimiento? Pues eso. uf. No tengo nada más, constructivo o no, que decir por el momento.
