i’m starting my primary school teacher training in september :) this is the book my year 5 class will be reading in conjunction with their first topic on the village of Eyam! it’s a nice story (based in the sheffield/derbyshire area) with plenty of vivid descriptions that i hope will engage the children. the book explores numerous themes/feelings, and there’s one scene in particular that surprised me with its nuance and poignancy. the children will have been impacted by covid, so i’m intrigued to see how they respond to a story concerned with isolation and perserverance during a deadly plague.
